Just a quick one. Is there an easier way to continually switch your license between two different machines?
Its fairly painless to grab the save file and move that across. I'm thinking that I can get away with a bit of playing time at work.

Nope, not easily. e-license information is written to the registry of your computer so the only "easy" way would be to get a big enough flash drive and install windows directly onto it.
Then you could plug it into any unprotected computer, have it boot from the flash drive and bam, there you go. It'd run a bit slower unless you're using USB2.0 but it should, in theory work. Haven't tried it out though :p

You'd have to set up one of those things were you can access your computer at home from your computer at work over the internet (I don't know what they're called, sorry). I don't how complicated that is or even where to start, but a mate of mine does it.

Never tried it but does TEW run on Linux?

Remote Desktop can do that. You just have to leave TEW running before you remote into it because elicense doesn't allow you to open it. I do this every night at work

Thats the one. Yeah, my mate does that every day so it sounds like the way forward if you want to play at work with the same save game.

Yeah, it was the registry thing that stopped me even trying. I have a U3 flash drive, so if it was written to the actual database, I'd be fine. But then a lot of un-honest people would be getting free games ;p

How does it run? slow as a dog I imagine. I would have to get one of those pay-monthly web based consoles anyway I reckon, RD will be locked down here.
Buy another license. :p
Yeah, was thinking this may be the only way. I wouldn't mind, but knowing me I'll end up never getting time to load it up.

Not out of the box. You need to throw a windows emulator and tinker with it. Haven't heard of anyone getting it to work yet but I'm sure someone out there is running TEW on linux.

Unlicense when you log off your home machine, relicense when you log in at the office and vice versa.
The licensing process is near instantaneous, as far as I know.
Although the licensing system allows you to do this, forgetting to do it one day can cause you to be gameless for a while.
I think buying a second license would be the absolute easiest way.
If you've got a fast enough connection remotely connecting to your desktop should work. I use logmein, they have a free edition. You leave your home PC on and install a program and let it auto-run when you start up your PC.
Then when you're at work you visit the logmein website and, log in and pick your home PC from the list.
It's also a very good system if you hook your PC up to a projector, you can remotely dial into your PC and use your netbook in bed while playing TEW in supersize on the wall. ;)

Not sure if Adam wants us to discuss it, but there goes: Install Windows in a virtual machine and install TEW there, then you can use the same copy of windows on all your computers
(obviously you would have to move the save games between the different computers)

I think that we should be able to install the game on at least two machines. I bought it with my brother, and he wants to play on his notebook at the same time that Im playing on my desktop.
I know about the sharing issue, but two machines per license sounds fair.

It sounds less fair when you consider that a lot of people would sell or give away their second license, effectively cutting my income in half!

Holy crap - this logmein thing is fantastic. Now using it on my laptop to play TEW which is installed on my main PC.
Superb.

Yeah, but I'd make ten bucks.
I fail to see the problem. :p

The problem with that logmein is that It will show up on the proxy. Not quite sure how I would explain that to our technical director. VM may work, or I could just you know, do work whilst im at work.

Yeah, I know that a bunch of people would do stuff like this. But it could be a way, like only validating the 2 licenses under the same ip, the two machines would have to be on the same network.
I don't know, just random thoughts.

Your suggestion would make the second license useless to most people who would want one, as most people who would like the second license would use it for a laptop or a work computer. Rather than suggesting something that would provide added utility to the player base, you're really just suggesting something that would get your brother to stop bugging you. A solution which requires no GDS intervention: chloroform.

I'm running with the same problem as most of you guys. I play on my Home PC and I have a Laptop which I like to take places with me so I usually want to play on that while im out and about.
The main way I have currently been playing TEW is to use UltraVNC to remote into my Home PC to be able to play.
It's a pain in the ass I know and Adam doesn't wanna lose his profits etc. So unless he can come up with a super cool way that we can easily do this then I think we are just going to have to do the Unlicense and then re-license each time :(

Nuggeh with you having a laptop why don't you just keep it on that the laptop. You can play the game anywhere without unlicensing the game. I have laptop and desktop and most of my games are on my laptop but then again my laptop is better than my desktop and i only use my desktop to download music and movies and some games so my friends can play some RTS games.

For me the issue is that my laptop is a pain in the butt to use on a long term basis. I've ended up rigging up an impromptu docking station when I want to play TEW at home by unplugging my monitor, mouse and keyboard from the PC and using them on the lappy.
This actually ends up being easier then swapping save files with a flash drive :D

yeah well use my lptop 90% because it has a 512MB graphics card in it and my desktop is a dell and is too small to put a normal graphics card in it and i can't up grade the 130W power supply as it is a dell and dell doesn't make power supplies for that model anymore

Actually, youre wrong. If you use it in your laptop, you could just log on to the same network as the other computer that you want to install the game (on your work, or elsewhere), then it will match the ip's.
This could still provide the sharing game question, but it does require that the two computers are on the same network at least on the moment of the instalation.

Maybe someday Grey Dog will go to Steam and everyone can be happy?
