THE OFFICIAL RULES (Read or Die!)

HOW TO PLAY:

ROLES: Every player has been given a role, each with it’s own abilities (or lack thereof). Your role PM will explain what it does if you are meant to know. You do not need to reveal your role to other players nor will we do so in the in-game write ups. Of course, you can choose to reveal information about your role if you wish to if you feel it would help you to reach your win condition. Jut remember that any information you reveal can also be used against you, so claiming is entirely at your own risk. If you want to use your ability, PM the mod of the game (Slim Jim). Do NOT post it in the thread unless your role PM states otherwise.

PHASES: The game is split into two phases, Day and Night. The game begins during the day phase with all players (Town and Mafia alike) posting in the thread deciding who to lynch. Lynching is the town’s main way of eliminating mafia, so be sure to examine everything that your fellow players say in order to find inconsistencies, lies, dodgy voting patterns and anything else that could incriminate people. There may also be clues in the end of phase write ups, but relying on those is not advised as they may be veiled, misleading or otherwise unreliable. Day phases last approximately 48 hours or until a consensus is reached on who to lynch. Night phases last approximately 24 hours but may end earlier if all night activities are completed. If you have an optional ability and choose not to use it, please inform the mod via PM so that they know not to wait on your ability.

VOTING: All voting and game related discussion is to occur within the game thread. Town players may discuss who they think are Mafia, and Mafia members should be trying to avoid being lynched by bluffing and blending in and generally trying to not get lynched. To vote on anyone, post VOTE: Username (MUST BE IN BOLD!). You can also change your vote by typing CHANGE VOTE: Username (AGAIN IN BOLD!). You can also change your vote to nobody by typing CHANGE VOTE: No Vote (STILL IN BOLD!). Your last option is to vote for a no lynch, meaning that you actively choose to not lynch anyone. To do so simply type VOTE: No lynch (BOLDED OBVIOUSLY!). All votes post in the thread for your vote to count and it must be in bold. If you vote within a quote then your vote won’t be counted, so if you mess up voting and quote it to edit it then it will not count.

DAY PHASES: A Day Phase is over whenever a person obtains votes from more than 50% of the total number of players remaining, at which point they are lynched. It can also end if the time expires before a lynch is reached, at which point a No Lynch will be declared. There are abilities out there that can change votes such as vote manipulators, multi-voters and no-voters so vote counts may not always be as they seem. When a person dies their role title will be revealed for all to see in the end of day write up.

NIGHT PHASES: Night Phases begin after a day phase has ended. During this time most abilities will be sent in to the mod (Slim Jim), with the Mafia usually sending in their kills while the town send in names of people they want to use their abilities on, such as investigate or protect. The night phase will end once all abilities have been sent in or when the time limit expires, at which point the mod will do a write up of the night’s activities. The write up will reveal what players have been killed any some other events that happen depending on what the mod consider important enough to be in the write ups. Whenever possible, try to get PMs into the mod as soon as possible after the start of the night phase in order to keep the game moving along at a quick pace.

Once night has ended, a new day begins and the cycle repeats itself until win conditions have been reached. The Town generally wins when there are no threats left to them, the Mafia generally win when their numbers are equal to or greater than the remaining non-Mafia players. Remember, this is a team effort so if you think sacrificing someone may help your cause then go ahead.

GENERAL MAFIA GAME RULES:

No players are allowed to edit their posts EVER!. Whether it be to correct a typo or to remove some accidentally incriminating things someone has said, no editing of posts is allowed. While mods may choose to be lenient, the standard penalty for anyone caught editing a post is a mod kill.

All players should play to their role/alignment and play to win. While there are likely to be times that you have to do things against your best interest, any players who deliberately go against their win conditions risk being banned from future games for failing to play to their role and going against the spirit of the game.

Players are only allowed to post their role title from their role PM, that is the bit that says you are “Town Aligned Protector” or something similar. You can paraphrase things that your PM says but you are not allowed to directly quote anything else other than the role title from your PM, which is also the only thing players will see when you are dead. If the mods catch you posting anything that closely resembles what your role PM says then it will be grounds for a mod kill. You have been warned!

In game “role bets” such as “I will never play again if…” is strictly prohibited. If you do this then you will at minimum be replaced as soon as possible, with a maximum penalty of a mod kill. It may also lead to a ban from future games, mods don’t want players who will bet on things outside their games in order to try and prove something in a game so just don’t do it.

Though we can’t force you to post, all mods love to see active participants in their games. We advise everyone to check in at least once a day, as games can move pretty fast and it can be easy to fall behind if you are not on regularly.

Though this may also be a mafia game, try not to postwhore in the thread. Where possible try to keep things relevant to the game that is being played and try not to let arguments get out of hand. This game stirs up some passionate arguments and we understand that this will happen, but if anything turns into a personal attack then it ruins the fun for everyone. Be considerate. :)

Unless your role PM specifically states otherwise, no players are allowed to talk about their role, game plan, alignment, win condition or basically anything game related outside of the game thread. While mods can’t easily enforce this rule, any communication about the game outside of the game thread goes against the spirit of mafia games and spoils the game. Anyone caught doing this WILL be mod-killed. This is your only warning!

Once you are dead, you stay dead. You will not be allowed to participate in the game thread or continue to talk to people outside the thread that you could talk to before. So if you are a Mafia player who dies, you are NOT allowed to continue talking about the game to your Mafia team mates. No dead players will receive any extra information from the mod (Slim Jim) when they die either. If you are dead, try not to post anything in the game thread as anything you say could be an unnecessary distraction to those still playing, though a quick post going “Oooooooo I’m a ghost!!” is generally okay, no-one is allowed to leave cryptic messages from the dead, notes on their corpses or anything like that. If you are dead, your contribution to the game is over.

Talking to other dead players is also frowned upon, as many games have been known to feature a revive type ability or need to have players replaced. Talking to other players outside the game means that these abilities can’t be used properly and that you can’t be used as a replacement, which can still have an impact on the game in play. So don’t do it!

When it comes to mafia games, nothing is ever as it seems. There can be things about your role that you don’t know about, other people can bluff about their abilities, people can lie, events can happen and write ups can be read in many different ways. If you have any questions about what is happening then you can get in contact with the mod (Slim Jim) via PM, and if we can clarify anything for you then we will do what we can. But there are many reasons why we might not be able to, and in any such eventuality you will get a post simply stating the following -> :cool:

You are Example: New New York Aligned Generic Title
You are an example of a town role within this mafia game. You have no use. You are already dead, you cannot vote, you cannot post, you cannot do anything. Sucks to be you.

You win when all threats have been eliminated.

Night 0

The packed stadium was buzzing at the sight of seeing an impressive display once again by the Harlem Globetrotters. “Sweet” Clyde Dixon and “Curly” Joe have been at the absolute top of their games on the basketball court, but as is often the case, all the players involved are being thoroughly outplayed by the captain of the team: Ethan “Bubblegum” Tate. Not only a superb scientist, the man has mad skills with a basketball. That’s right, I said mad skills.

Just as he is beginning another mesmerising display of tricks, there is a commotion from the crowd. Suddenly, a copper-coloured robot bursts onto the court, wielding a knife! “Ha HAAA!” he screeches, as he lunges forward. The blade slashes through the Globetrotters before anyone can react, with the exception of Bubblegum. He throws the ball hard in the direction of the attacker but it is punctured with a wild stab, and from there Tate is left defenceless. The deranged killer stabbed with crazed swings of his arm, and the heroic scientist-cum-sportsman is slain.

Flicking his head from side to side maniacally, he makes his absurdly dramatic escape by launching himself through a glass window, next to an open door, and runs off into the night.

Elsewhere, Mayor C. Randall Poopenmeyer is addressing a group of local petitioners, hoping to convince them that tearing down local schools is a good thing. Something about promoting a younger workforce; whatever he’s saying isn’t why we’re here. As the mayor is sweating under questioning, a handy diversion is ready to materialise. Sadly for the mayor, it isn’t quite what he would have been hoping for.

A pair of shoes that had been poking from underneath a curtain at the back of the stage begin to shuffle, and the curtain is thrown back. A man wearing a balaclava without eye or mouth holes bursts forward, clutching a gun. He fires wildly in the general direction of the mayor, and fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) he lands with several bullets. As the gathered masses scream, the assailant rushes off stage, tumbling down the stairs, where is he grabbed by two associates and taken quickly out through a side door.

Finally, at the DOOP headquarters in New New Jersey, a meeting of all the important members of the confederation have gathered. They’re all there; that weird tentacle guy, that other one that looks like string. The lot.

Heading the current debate, surrounding a controversial rise in the tax breaks for farming on Mars using buggalo, is the President of DOOP herself, Glab. The room is rife with arguments about the pros and cons of such a bill, but suddenly there is silence. Odd.

On a balcony above the President is a rotund man wearing a mask, and holding some kind of …amazing creature. Wow. That’s so… I can’t stop… wow.

What’s that?

Hey, did everything just taste purple for a second?

Uh oh. We appear to have missed something important, as Glab has been impaled on a spear. As the members of DOOP realise what has happened, it is clear this is a declaration of war!

Nice write up. All right, let's see ...

Not really a limb saying Roberto got Bubblegum, and apparently all the `Trotters. `at crazy bank robbing sunuvagun.

The second one stumps me. I had a thought, but the way it's described, I can't actually place that character in this scenario, so I'm tending to believe my theory is inaccurate. Not sure who did the killing here, but the robot mafia fits the scene. Just the lack of clamping that makes me wonder about them.

The third ... well, it's two things intertwining. No idea who the killer is, as everyone was distracted, but the distraction wasn't niblonian. My guess, Hypno-Toad. By the by, the Hypno-Toad show ... awesome! So either someone can use the toad to their advantage, or someone simply took advantage of a situation.

Had considered that, but it seems somewhat unlikely. Not totally dismissing the possibility, but I can't think of a motive to justify the means, ya know?

Semi-related note ... wish my LS killer had ha-HAAAed everytime he slashed someone. :p

The "did everything just taste purple for a second" is a line said by Fry when the Nibblonians blank his mind.

The other thing that came to mind was the Chronotons.

Hypno Toad didn't make people forget things...just do things.

Wasn't the everything taste purple line from the episode they time-travelled to Roswell? When the microwave blanked? Might be my old brain slipping, not sure.

But I did consider chronotons. And brain slugs. But one brain slug probably wouldn't affect an entire room like that.

But the Toad didn't command, he fascinated. People didn't do things, they sat, enthralled by him, either on tv, or at the competition he won just by sitting there. And those people didn't forget, they were distracted. However, if the purple is a niblonian tip-off, and not from the episode I thought, then I think they're the ones using the toad to their advantage, wittingly or not. Purple happens after the staring, so they watch the toad, time blips, purple on the tongue, whoops, dead guy.

But Niblonians are peaceful, save for the brains ... why kill a DOOP? Especially to incite war? Unless it wasn't a Niblonian who killed, it was Lrrr?

First off, meant fascinates ... be silly if the only one watching him was him. :p

Second, it still doesn't say he commands. Hypnotizes can still fall into the fascination spell. He keeps their focus, they all ooh and ahh, and no one moves or blinks. Doesn't mean he told one of them to kill someone.

Wasn't the everything taste purple line from the episode they time-travelled to Roswell? When the microwave blanked? Might be my old brain slipping, not sure.

But I did consider chronotons. And brain slugs. But one brain slug probably wouldn't affect an entire room like that.

But the Toad didn't command, he fascinated. People didn't do things, they sat, enthralled by him, either on tv, or at the competition he won just by sitting there. And those people didn't forget, they were distracted. However, if the purple is a niblonian tip-off, and not from the episode I thought, then I think they're the ones using the toad to their advantage, wittingly or not. Purple happens after the staring, so they watch the toad, time blips, purple on the tongue, whoops, dead guy.

But Niblonians are peaceful, save for the brains ... why kill a DOOP? Especially to incite war? Unless it wasn't a Niblonian who killed, it was Lrrr?

He may distract them. Too many faulty theories that I can't totally make sense of.

I have to say, although I've seen every episode of Futurama up to cancellation and at least 3 of the movies, I'm not entirely sure who the killer in the second paragraph is.

As for the last one, one idea I didn't see mentioned yet is the Zookeeper. That's a little bit of a stretch, but it makes sense. He doesn't have anything to do with memory loss/time skips, but I figured I'd throw that out there just because I want the creature he's holding to be Citizen Snips... :D

There's tons of possibilities as far as scum and town characters are concerned, the write up is informative, but still vague, and not overly wordy, and I know this subject. I'm feeling good about this game.

Nibbler is highly intelligent and capable of communication, but uses telepathic manipulation to simulate human speech because his natural speech is incomprehensible jabber. For most of the series he masquerades as a rather unintelligent animal in order to avoid suspicion while he goes about his mission of protecting the Earth in general and Fry in particular from the evil Brainspawn. He reveals his mission to anyone else only when expecting to wipe their memory of it afterwards, something done twice so far. He wipes people's memories by emitting a bright flash of light from his third eye (similar to the Neuralyzer from Men in Black). This appears to telepathically reorder information in the brain, as per Fry's comment that it makes everything "taste purple for a second."

And I still have my doubts on Hypnotoad being in the game.

And amusingly, the first vote on me in this game was cast about 1 minute after I received my role... coincidence? Probably. :)

Looks like we have Roberto as SK, Mystery Man as part of mob, and it looks like the rotund man was holding a Nibblonian.

Nice write up. All right, let's see ...

Not really a limb saying Roberto got Bubblegum, and apparently all the `Trotters. `at crazy bank robbing sunuvagun.

The second one stumps me. I had a thought, but the way it's described, I can't actually place that character in this scenario, so I'm tending to believe my theory is inaccurate. Not sure who did the killing here, but the robot mafia fits the scene. Just the lack of clamping that makes me wonder about them.

The third ... well, it's two things intertwining. No idea who the killer is, as everyone was distracted, but the distraction wasn't niblonian. My guess, Hypno-Toad. By the by, the Hypno-Toad show ... awesome! So either someone can use the toad to their advantage, or someone simply took advantage of a situation.

The "did everything just taste purple for a second" is a line said by Fry when the Nibblonians blank his mind.

The other thing that came to mind was the Chronotons.

Hypno Toad didn't make people forget things...just do things.

It's been too long since I watched Futurama, I should start watching it again. Don't have any DVDs though, does anyone know of anywhere else I'd be able to watch the show? :)

As for this game, I pretty much agree with what has been said. I had to wiki things to be sure but the knife killer is Roberto and the animal killer looks to be The Zookeeper. I'm not sure of the middle one though, as it doesn't read like the Robot Mafia which is who I would expect to see here. Could be one of Mom's minions/sons, could be more indy types.

I get the feeling I'm missing a puzzle piece, this makes me curious... so I'm gonna be doing some reading up. Here's a link to a wiki for those who might need it.

I'd just like to pop-in and let people know that The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings is the greatest episode of anything ever.

Oh, and that WC's silence fits with the "get him to STAY QUIET!" approach that anyone and their dog would follow if they were scum. Just saying.

It is also what someone trying to learn may do after how bad talking has gone for him. Though nothing to this point has ever made me think he was ever trying to play.

SM tickled my interest too, upon reading up. Probably the best route for a day one pressuring.

I can see it being the zookeeper. Using the hypno toad seems to make sense.

The question is did time travel happen at DOOP or is the purple comment just a mention of the mental manipulation...

Could be one of Mom's minions/sons, could be more indy types.

Actually, that's an excellent point. Remember when I said "incompetent hitman", that is definitely one of mom's goons. They're a bunch of 3 stooge bumblers and it would fit very well in line that in trying to disguise himself, one of them became completely blinded and randomly shot everywhere.

So, here's the scum breakdown:

SK: Roberto. Makes sense and fits because the character is a serial criminal/murderer.

Mafia groups:

Mom + 3 stooges - if there's any "one" reoccuring villain in Futurama, it's mom. Mom would be the obvious don, as her "sweet and motherly" exterior would cause her to show up as town. The 3 stooges I wouldn't be surprised if each had their own scum ability but it was limited due to incompetence. So perhapse a protector, a framer, and a scum cop but % chance for each? Incompetence isn't necessary but if I was modding the game, it'd be a part of the character.

Robot Mafia: obvious mafia choice as they're a mafia group. You've got Donbot, a rotund robot, Clamps, who clamps people (probably a roleblocker...) and Joey Mousepad, who's a more typical goon. Bender could also logically be a part of this group as he did temporarily join as Blotto.

The Omicronians: Lrrr and Ndnd have invaded and destroyed New York countless times. First because they were upset over the loss of "Single Female Lawyer", then because Earth accidentally ate a billion of their babies, and there was the incident when Lrrr tried to harvest Fry's "human horn"

The Brains: The ancient evil that Fry had to oppose. The nibblonians did some questionable things in order to preserve the galaxy from the brain menace.

The Zookeepr: I could see him as a JOAT indy side-game character, but given the huge number of larger, better, and more prevelent mafia groups above, I just can't see him getting his own group with animal roles...

Anyway, My prediction is that we have 1 SK + 1 cult (brain slugs or brains) + 4-person mom mafia group + 3-person robot mafia group + 1-2 other (zookeeper, nixon, omicronians)

This would result in 3-4 night kills a night + 1 recruitment.

true enough roberto seems to be the sk in the write-up but im not going to write off the possibilty of any character at the moment that includes not writing off what would be potentialy a second sk

Futurama has too many good bad guys for them all to be in, unless the mod wants another Mystique in Marvel incident. Which is sad as it means some great characters must be left out.

My only real opinion is...

The brains seem unlikely, only because they only have one distinctive character but attack in large numbers. I'd hate to get the role Random Brain #3, Brain Swarm Aligned Brain.

Laaaame.

Also agree with the Zookeepers likely being some sort of indy. Maybe a really powerful SK who can leverage his array of animals. Sorta like starting as a kick ass Sylar but without the ability to grow in power.

I could see the brains being a cult though. Perhaps the giant brain is rebuilding his army by zapping people...

Would be far more interesting then the brain slugs.

The OP does sound like the zookeeper and I've been trying to puzzle it this way and that but he's really the only fat bad guy who's a man. There are several fat bad guy robots (donbot & santa), a fat bad guy alien (Lrrr is often described as being paunchy). The mask pretty much seals the deal...

But then again, notice how it wasn't actually described as him killing the DOOP president. And with all his animal army, why would he need a spear to kill the pres? Why not have him trampled or snipped or mauled?

I'm wondering if there's more stuff going on in that scene that isn't written. Perhaps Zookeeper was just a distraction for the real killer?

I'm also thinking of who uses a spear and all I've got is the amazonians. Could see them as a group trying to kill all the men in the game by orders of the Fem-puter...

argh, so many wonderful possabilities. Good choice on theme, Slim Jim!

Zookeeper: Wanted to steal a big-ass diamond.

See the disparity between "evil" levels. If someone has an opportunity to get rid of the zookeeper, it's probably for the best, but I just don't imagine him at this stage of the game as being a killer. When I hear about Citizen Snips slitting someone's throat, I'll reprioritize him, but for now I'm considering him a tertiary threat compared to primary threats (mafia & sk) and secondary threats (cult)

Yeah say, can we not.. weigh in on WC for once? It seems every time a game starts now he's gonna be the first one looked at, and honestly even if he was scum and quiet we'd rack our brains around and circle and circle on thoughts about him. I think we should just do as usual and that is, watch how he acts on the course of the game and if he slips, we pounce on him. Personally, seems to me he's become more reclusive on posting early since his debacle in Pokemon.

Destiny and supermareo, well.. Destiny's post is certainly of concern, I'm not fussed about supermareo however. iMac's post strikes me a bit off but nothing much to further on for now. I'll have to continue seeing things, now off to my security guard class.

I think thats been the plan for a couple years. Ever since Comedy Central bought the syndication rights for the show.

There was even a big thing last year where CC was threatening to not pay the original voice actors asking price and recast all the roles. (They relented.)

Honestly, doesn't really matter how harmless he was in the actual show. For all we know Slim is a huge Zoo Keeper mark and made him a complete bad ass.

Actually, that's an excellent point. Remember when I said "incompetent hitman", that is definitely one of mom's goons. They're a bunch of 3 stooge bumblers and it would fit very well in line that in trying to disguise himself, one of them became completely blinded and randomly shot everywhere.

Also mentioned he was picked up by his two associates.

Robot cult, the don of Robot Mafia considers his current mafia inadequate and starts recruiting indies like Roberto and Robot Santa as well as town robots like Calculon and Eddy.

Something to consider.

Very close to something he's done before though.

I do think there's more scum, or potential for more, than the three kills we've seen so far. However, with a slight bit of meta-gaming I'm sure Slim'll want to keep away from the set-up of Futurama mafia on Neo. Obviously the Zookeeper is testament to that already. Maybe even MomCorp are town aligned with humans protecting the earth from all these invading aliens and psychopathic robots.

For anyone wondering that set-up was Robot Mafia + Roberto and Hyper Chicken as main scum, with MomCorp as secondary scum and Robot Santa as indie SK.

That was the most awesome way for the town to lose their Forensic Investigator; I laughed the whole time reading it.

Worst thing was, he was from Neo and I knew how he played and it was just a countdown to him turning up town with a kill-less role.

I'm always happy to vote for Destiny, seems to do very little with his role and in thread and as nice as he seems, his play winds me up. Quicker he's out, the sooner I enjoy the game that little bit more.

I've never been one to argue against lynching on day one. I remember the Rocky and Bullwinkle game, day 1, DJ saying my lack of posting was suspicious, and how that kept me alive quite a while longer to help protect other folks in the mason group. Also, some scum went overboard pushing to lynch Cappyboy, and the fallout from that helped the town win.

Similar thing in the Buffy game. Derek pushing on MLT, MLT's story not lining up, then she claims, and then DJ pushes just a tad too hard after that leading to him getting lynched.

My point is, stuff can happen D1 that impacts the game there after, and a lot of times, it can have positive results for the town.

I say all that because, in the past any way, there have been some who argue D 1 is just a waste, and push for a no lynch vote. I guess maybe the player base has moved away from that thinking overall, probably through recognizing that the day is the town's best weapon, and really it only benefits scum to give up a day phase easily.

Now, I don't know what Destiny's opinion on all that is, could be he really wasn't thinking about how it would look when he wrote it, but he should explain what he meant by it better. And based on that, things may have to proceed from there.

That's the old I'll push a lynch, but leave no voting evidence so later when he's townie I'll say "Oh, I didn't vote on him" trick.

Day 1, as ever, is full of the same routines. I welcome it's familiarity, I shun it's repetitive nature. Even so, I at least feel like we've made some progress which is always a good thing. ID'ing scum is always a good thing. I seem to have deleted the post I had MQ'ed, so to Gabbo for talking abou tthe previous incarnation of Futurama mafia... thank you! I knew I'd never played a Futurama game before but I remembered hearing about it and it was going to drive me mad. Good to know about the set-up there, if you've got anything else you can share that would be more than welcome, even if this isn't the same set-up.

I just tire of the useless posts that are made only so the poster seems like they are more active and contributing more than they are is all.

Just noticed Destiny has done an awful lot of it thus far in this game, much the same way Self did it in the early going of Pokemon, so it stood out.

Destiny posts lots of fairly innocuous posts in pretty much every game going though, whether he's town or scum. He could be scum, but I'm not overly keen on the bandwagon at the moment.

I need to read up on Futurama, but it's half-term now so that gives me an opportunity. :)
