Welcome to the 2009
GDS Scummie Awards
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/Scummie%20Awards3/PlanetHollywood2.jpg
LIVE from the Theatre For The Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada USA
[The house lights dim, and the orchestra kicks off with a tympani roll and goes to an upbeat awards show theme. The curtain rises to reveal a show chorus decked out in rhinestone-studded formal wear, tuxes and tails for the gentlemen, satiny, high-cut dresses for the ladies. They sing the opening number.]
Chorus: Overture! Curtain! Lights!
This is it! The night of nights!
No more rehearsing and nursing our parts,
We know every part by heaaaaaart!
Overture! Curtain! Lights!
This is it! We'll hit the heights!
And oh, what heights we'll hiiiiiiiit!
On with the show, this is it!
Announcer: Ladies and Gentlemen, the GDS Academy of Mafia Enthusiasts welcomes you to the 3nd Annual Scummie Awards. Please welcome your Master of Ceremonies for this evening...uhhh...
[The orchestra clumsily comes to a halt. The crowd starts to murmur. moon_lit_tears, sitting in the front row, steps up on stage and behind the awards podium.]
moon_lit_tears: HEY! Announcer dude! What's going on back there!
Announcer: I-I'm sorry, but there's no name here on the script...
moon_lit_tears: BANGER! Get your ass up here! Did you forget to hire an MC?
[Wallbanger hastily joins moon_lit_tears at the podium.]
Wallbanger: ME? I asked YOU to do that!
moon_lit_tears: Hel-LO! 15 feet of snow in my front yard! I kind of had some other things on my mind! I'm lucky I'm even HERE!
Wallbanger: Oh, joy and rapture. So where are we going to find an out-of-work awards show MC on this short of notice that'll work cheap?
Voice from the Crowd: NEVER FEAR! I'LL SAVE THE SCUMMIES! HIT THE MUSIC!
[The orchestra cues up the familiar buildup from the Superman movies. As the music crescendos, a man is seen running down the aisle, his face obscured. He leaps up onto the stage, and just as the main trumpet theme hits, he spins around and rips his shirt open to reveal...]
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/Scummie%20Awards3/conan1.jpg
moon_lit_tears: OHMYGOD! IT'S CONAN O'BRIAN!
[The crowd cheers over the music.]
Wallbanger: Thank you, Conan! You're just what we needed!
Conan O'Brian: No problem, it's not like I have anything better to do at the moment. Look, why don't we go to a commercial break and you guys can give me the rundown. In the meantime, sit tight folks, even though I have no clue what's going on, I'll bet you my next paycheck from NBC that this will be the best Scummie Awards ever!
moon_lit_tears: Uh, you're not getting paychecks from NBC anymore.
Conan O'Brian: Gee, thanks for RUBBING IT IN!
Wallbanger: You could always bet your settlement.
Conan O'Brian: Oh, you're a riot, you are. You think I'm stupid or something?
[The three squabble as they exit stage right and the show fades to commercial.]

David Letterman: This is the worst Scummies party ever.
Oprah Winfrey: Now, Dave, be nice--
Jay Leno: Oh, he's just saying that 'cause I'm here.
David Letterman: [in mocking tone] Oh, he's just saying that 'cause I'm here.
Oprah Winfrey: [sighs, then glares at Letterman.]

Conan O'Brian: Well, let's get this shindig underway, shall we? We've got some great guest presenters lined up, but for this first batch of awards, I thought I'd present -- gotta keep myself in practice after all.
Our first round of awards are the Role Claim awards, highlighting the top moments of mafia gameplay and entertainment in 2009. I have here four envelopes with the results of the four roleclaim categories; Most Strategic Claim, Best Fake Claim, Most Shocking Claim, and Funniest Role Claim.

Also, based on the number of ties, I'd guess only a handful of people actually voted...

Not only were there 20+ votes, not everyone voted in that category. This year was the best for participation yet, almost 30 ballots in total.

But remember we don't have 40 'regulars' -- we get to 35+ with occasional players and new folks. We only had 20 ballots two years ago, and about the same number last year. So even with folks leaving or on hiatus, participation is still increasing.

I'm also extremely lazy, I believe I voted close to or on the last day, and I've only kept notes in a mafia game once in a career of around 50 games. We have so much in common, you should be my valentine. :cool:

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/Scummie%20Awards3/george_michael_boy_george.jpg
Voice from Audience: Which one of you was in WHAM!? I can never keep you two straight.
George Michael: Yeah, you could say we're hard to keep straight.
Boy George: Gimme a pair of handcuffs and a chain - I'll keep him bloody straight, yeah?
George Michael: Now stop it, you're lucky you're even here, you know.
Boy George: Oh fine, be that way.
The next award is for Best Role.
[Opens envelope]
It looks as if we have co-winners in this category, but sadly, not a five-way, which sounds scrumptious...
[Michael glares at Boy George]
...but anyway, your winners are...
Dr. Sam Beckett from Sci-Fi Chaos!
and...
Zombie Shaman from DUST!
[Crowd cheers]
--------------------
George Michael: Next on the list is the Most Underrated Player award.
[Opens envelope]
The runner-up for Most Underrated Player...

I never really understood that Sam Beckett roll. I was very :confused: . Clearly it was above my head.
Agreed. It utterly defied logic that he was able to be physically present and recognizable. I still say and will always say every time that game comes up that the only reasonable person from Quantum Leap to be in that mix was Al.
But the way Panix ended up working Sam's role, I can't help but wonder if that's how he got in the mix for this award. Jumping into all the voters to rig things for himself. Only his miscounted his cover votes. Hence the tie.

Conan O'Brian: Gonzo, thank you for that spectacular number!
Gonzo the Great: Hey, no problem there Conan.
Chickens: CO-CO! CO-CO! CO-CO!
Conan O'Brien: Ummm...are the chickens OK?
Gonzo the Great: Oh, they're just really excited to meet you - they're big fans, and even a bit smitten. I think it has something to do with the hair.
[The chickens surround Conan, clucking happily and cuddling his legs.]
Conan O'Brien: Err...this is weirding me out a little bit - I mean, I just had a bucket of Popeye's for lunch...
[The chickens' demeanor immediately turns from admiration to anger, and begin pecking viciously at Conan, who makes a hasty retreat stage right.]
Gonzo the Great: [shakes head] Sad. You'd think a guy like that would be more suave with the ladies, like me.
Well, as I'm somewhat responsible for this turn of events--
[Conan runs out from stage right. His slacks are shredded from the knees down and there are feathers sticking to his coat. The chickens are in close pursuit.]
Conan O'Brien: I SWEAR, I'LL GO VEGAN! MAMMA!
[The chase continues as Conan and the chickens exit stage left.]
Gonzo the Great: --as I was saying, I should make the next set of presentations. [to the stage left exit] CONAN! SING SOME BARRY WHITE TO THEM, THAT CALMS THEM DOWN! AT LEAST IT WORKS FOR ME!

When you look up "continuous" in the dictionary, you see a picture of me... and you can never look away... ever...

Not actually upset, but I'm still pretty much the definition of "prolific" as far as mafia is concerned.

[Conan O'Brian enters from stage left. His slacks have been replaced and he has cleaned up. He is carrying a package, but his body blocks a clear view of it. He arrives at the podium and sets down the package, revealed to be a Popeye's chicken box. Conan opens his mouth as if to begin to speak, but instead lets forth a long, deep-throated belch. He reaches inside his jacket, pulls out a handkerchief, wipes the corners of his mouth, then in exaggerated gestures folds the handkerchief back up and returns it to the pocket from which it came.]
Conan O'Brian: Welcome back to the Scummie awards. Our next presenter is a man of many talents. He's been an abiding dude, an alien, an alien's shrink, a programmer zapped into the machine, a car designer, a shock jock, a comic book villain, and most recently a drunken country singer. He's told a lot of different tales in his career and is a fitting presenter for the awards that center around the stories mafia games tell. Please welcome award-winning actor Jeff Bridges!

The runner up for Best Night Scene...
Night 4 of Final Fantasy Mafia!
Final Fantasy Mafia: Light Beyond the Darkness
Night Four
After the hellacious chaos that was the previous twenty-four hours, everyone went to see for themselves the extent of the damage caused, figuring that with the current events a tentative truce would be called among all of the people gathered.
How wrong they were.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior—Figaro Desert}
He had received his orders, and was sent out to take a look around. He had barely gone more than a quarter of a mile when a large figure swooped out of the sky, landing in front of him. He tried to go around, but could not get past the creature's outstretched wings. Thinking to loop around, he saw with dismay that the creature took flight and stayed with him. A few moments later, a voice in his ear told him to return to base; there would be nothing he could do on this night.
\___(^)___/
{Interior—Lionel Castle, Ivalice}
He peered around the corner, finding only the person he was expecting to see standing in the middle of the chamber. Breathing a sigh of relief, he walked out to greet the other person, and several minutes of whispered conversation followed before both men left the castle. Things were starting to come together now, he could feel it.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior—Wutai}
She felt like she needed to be helping in Midgar or in one of the other areas hardest hit by the calamity, but she instead found herself here, where people were making do with what they had. Perhaps, deep inside, she wanted to see the perseverance of mankind up close for a change. Whatever the case was, she certainly did not notice the smaller figure take something from her pocket before vanishing into the night.
After some time, she turned to leave the town, and had not even begun to walk the mountain path when a searing beam of light shot over her head. Looking up, the light struck the rocks above her, sending a small avalanche her way. She didn't care too much for the irony of that as she scrambled to escape the falling debris, managing to break free a minute later as the rocks completely blocked the path she was going to take.
Seeing that she would have to find another way back, she turned to head back to Wutai, but was stopped as the beam of light shot out again. masterded could only stare as the light came right for her, and struck her in the chest. There was a fleeting moment of pain and searing flesh.
And then nothing more.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior—Kohlingen}
He walked around tonight with his eyes looking skyward. He wasn't about to be smashed on the head by a falling crystal this time. In the distance, he didn't see the person twist their weapon slightly.
However, someone else had. He came flying from out of nowhere, shoving the man aside as a sword of light erupted from the ground, striking the newcomer a glancing blow and sending him spinning to the ground, feeling the worse for wear. The original man stayed long enough to help the newcomer to his feet and make sure that he would live before walking away himself.
In the distance, the figure sheathed their weapon and walked away. It wasn't the original target, but it would do.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior—Luca, Spira}
The blitzball stadium had gone undamaged, which was of some relief. The League may have to play short two teams this year, but at least they would be able to play and ease the minds of some of the populace. She felt happy to see that, and made a note to watch some of the games when the season started up.
Sighing, she turned to return back to Dalmasca when a sharp, stabbing pain flared up in her side. Looking down, she saw blood starting to run down her side, though she appeared to be in no danger of dying. Gritting her teeth, she managed to find a local clinic where she could at least have the wound stitched up.
She'd never get the chance to do that, either. Before she could get more than fifty feet away, she was assaulted yet again. This time, though, there would be no escape for The_Mike, as the dagger easily slipped through her robes and pierced her heart.
Spira had lost one of its' true heroes, and the repercussions would be felt for days afterwards.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior—Town of Baron}
He had found that most everyone within Baron had managed to survive, which was a good thing. As he walked around to make sure that everyone was situated and as comfortable as they could be given the circumstances, he never saw the figure hiding in plain sight, watching his every move and drawing conclusions of their own.
\___(^)___/
{Exterior--Zanarkand, Spira}
He felt it deep within his being--something had happened to her. Something bad. Turning, he began to sprint from the ruined city, hoping beyond hope that he could get there in time.
Alas, it was not meant to be. As the High Summoner's life faded into naught but pyreflies, he saw that his body was slowly fading from existence. It was already too late.
With one last look at the stars above, supermareo's last thought was of the woman he loved before he simply ceased to be.
\___(^)___/
Morning of Day Five
{Exterior--Palace Square: Dalmasca, Ivalice}
The initial reports that came back seemed to be good. Despite the chaos and destruction, peoplecontinued to eke out an existence in this world of ruin. However, when everyone assembled for the day and saw three people missing, it did not take long for the band to put together a three song medley to honor the fallen.
And it was quickly made clear--the town was not out of the woods yet.

Night 5 of SIN!
As Day Phase Five Concludes...
In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter – bitter", he answered,
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart.
-Stephen Crane
The town assembled under the unforgiving sun to sanctify another day in Blood.
Of course, none of them saw it that way, they all lacked the proper… perspective.
The platform sat in the center of the town square, with its ropes attached to corpses swaying in the warm breeze, like morsels of meat dangling above the mouth of some twisted tyrant whose hunger was not easily sated.
Traditionally, the blood sacrifice of old was an admission that God was both cruel and hungry, as was life, and that always some had to die to support the living.
This is a simple fact of nature. But over time nature can become subverted to the ends of man. And if the cause is for justice, then ask yourselves, why was the town about to kill someone who had never harmed anyone in her short life? Was it for the town’s benefit, or perhaps, for the benefit of someone else?
Alas, as this sorry scene plays we find no answers, merely more uncomfortable questions.
The young lady remains silent as the rope is fastened to her neck. Once the lever is pulled, she falls downward and stops suddenly with a snapping sound causes some of the more disturbed members of the town to cheer at the death of something beautiful. At the removal of innocence from the world.
And it is among those cheers and catcalls that the final leash is released, and the town’s former guardian lets slip the dog of war.
The cheers grow silent as a plaintive moaning is heard. Along with it come the howls of dogs and coyotes scattered all around the town. Slowly people begin to step away from the source of the dreadful wailing, but their ignorance outweighs their fear, and many are still near the figure doubled over on the ground.
Finally he stands, much larger now, and turns, and children begin to cry as their parents gasp.
“You killed her,” was what he screamed, before he began flinging townspeople about like rag dolls.
Suddenly everyone realized the threat, and began to run and trample each other in an attempt to escape, all but one man, who ran forward yelling for people to move.
After some struggle he finally had a clear view, and was positioned directly in front of the thing that had caused so much carnage. He didn’t bother identifying himself, He simply reached into his coat and began to pull the sidearm from his holster. Just as his arm was nearly extended to aim, the figure was upon him, and the arm holding the gun was torn from the shoulder and flung away.
The man would have screamed in pain then, but the figure had already grabbed him by his throat and squeezed with such force his head was detached from his body.
By this point everyone else had found shelter, and could only watch on in shock as the thing decapitated the man with its bare hands.
The thing screamed one last time with an animalistic fury, and then ran from the town square, where, there was little doubt, the looming darkness of night promised only more pain, more blood for the hungry earth.
In muted silence, with desperate little daylight left, they walked back to the platform. It was with somber eyes that they discerned that:
Treton was Dead. He was Lust, Seven Aligned Inquisitive Succubus
However, there were those that could not hide their glee when a search revealed the badge and I.D. card on Tha Black Phenom’s corpse.
Tha Black Phenom was Dead. He was Conner Jones, Silverton Aligned FBI Agent
And the story continues
The people, ever so frightened of the dark, began to turn and make their way back home when there was heard the most distinctive whisting sound.
And as they looked back, flinching from the fear of turning to salt, the figure stepped off the dead man switch, and a gasoline powered generator sprang into life, and along with it, hundreds of lights illuminated the dreary sky.
"Step right up, ladies and genetlemen. Today we beat back the night! Today we make our mark and-"
He was interrupted by gunshots, followed by a terrible screaming.
Suddenly a man crawled into view, and as some rushed to him they gasped as the sight of a second mouth grinning beneath his chin. Until a geyser of blood erupted from it, and he slowly dropped down to the ground, dead.
Moon Lit tears is Dead. He Was Marcus Watson, Silverton Aligned Gatekeeper
Do not send me role PMs
Silly people, do you not realize Hell has come to Silverton?
It is now Day Phase Six
And this story is still to be told.
Upon seeing the second man, some townspeople ran from the circle of lights, and from the darkness was heard all manner of screaming. Nearly all of them made it back to the safety of the town square, save one, who had vanished without a trace.
The Outlaw321 has Vanished. He cannot post or vote. He may not be lynched or targetted personally.
Eventually the people huddled together until the sun had risen and the brave ones stepped forth into the gloom and reported back another discovery, some figure covered in blood and pieces of human flesh.
Dead now, and finally at peace.
Crychon is dead. He was Wrath, Seven Aligned Killing machine

I think the DUST mechanics are some of the things I'm most proud of in my modding career. From the hiding, personal mini quests, to how the zombies and Shaman worked. Rev can attest to this, the game was done early on role wise. We pretty much knew what we wanted and the type of characters. But we were literally tweaking the zombie mechanics right up until game time. There were so many little intricacies that had to work out or the game would be unplayable.
Something I've always tried to do when modding my games is to come up with something different or fresh. Be it mechanics or roles. It is why I always go back to Rev too, as we both aren't afraid to try new things and together we can generally figure out how to make things work.
My next few games are some time off, but you can obviously expect some new ideas from them. One game in particular I'm super excited about, but that one is very hush hush.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to go back to some of the DUST mechanics in future games, and you may some some stuff in Abaddon since it is a prequel (sort of, well in the same universe anyways).

The runner up for Most Dramatic Moment...
The Finale of Simpsons Mafia!
Night Fifteen:
He stared out of his window, praying that he'd be left alone. It was going to be a long, terrifying night...
* * * *
He journeyed into town once again. He was sure he’d made the right decision the night before, but sensed that tonight would be all the more important. Little did he know how true that was...
* * * *
He lay back once again, reminiscing about the previous night and eagerly awaiting for the time they’d agreed once again. He’d made sure to wear deodorant this time, and worn a suit that cost slightly more than his other, which he’d found in the neighbour’s trash. At just the right time, the doorbell rang, and he quickly headed towards the door.
"Hello there..."
* * * *
He paced around, knowing that time was running out. Everything he’d been told; everything left to him...it all now seemed so vague. Just what was he supposed to do?
He called the figure outside into his office and stared him in the eyes; the blank expression was not that of someone who shared his path. But nonetheless, he had to try...
* * * *
"Oh yeah, baby, you like it like that, don’t ya! W-hey! You’re choking me! Stop..."
The air slowly left his lungs and he found himself unable to move. The grip remained firm until it was absolutely certain. He stopped struggling.
With a deep breath, she got to her feet and began to get dressed, staring smugly at the naked corpse in front of her.
"Now, that is how I like it..."
She quietly left the house. There was a lot still to be done...
* * * *
"Join me! There is no other way!"
"Boy, I don’t got no clue what you’re yappin’ about... "
He sighed...this was a lost cause. And then he heard someone at the front of the building, and it all suddenly became clear.
"Uhm...could you go and see who that is, please?"
* * * *
She slowly paced up the steps, and the one she expected to see soon came into view...for some reason, he had been inside the office, but that didn’t matter now. He was heavily armed and armoured...if this went wrong, everything was lost.
"’Scuse me young lady, what brings you here at this gosh-darn time of night?"
"Well..." she began, fluttering her eyebrows and placing a hand on his arm, which he looked uncomfortably towards. "I was hoping that you’d let me see the Mayor..."
"Hmm...and what business is it you be bringin’ to ‘im?”"
"Ah...that part is, shall we say...private..." She winked, and the guard almost jumped in shock at the insinuation.
"Absolutely not! That right there is just as bad as treason missy, you’re coming with –"
She had to go for broke. With a desperate lunge she locked her lips with his, and after a momentary squirm he couldn’t help but reciprocate. Within seconds the duo were lying around on the floor, and within minutes he was...disarmed. Otu of breath but with a wide, gormless smile on his face, he spoke once again.
"I...I guess...feel free to go in!"
She smiled.
* * * *
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
He wasn’t even remotely surprised to see who entered. Everything was coming together.
"Stockholm Syndrome’s a bitch, huh?"
"Your friend outside would disagree."
"And so would half of Springfield, I’ll bet."
She chuckled, and then there was a brief silence.
"So...you gonna kill me?"
"Only if I have to."
"You know you don’t."
"Well then...come along. There’s still work to do."
They left in unison.
* * * *
"What in the...sorry, sir, I’m ready to serve, sir!" Cletus frantically searched for his clothes and stood to attention, only to realise with horror that he was wearing an uncannily revealing, low-cut blouse...
"I...borrowed your shirt..."
"How in the..."
"Shut up, Cletus."
"Wh...you no-good, lying son of a –"
*BANG!*
He dropped dead in an instant.
"Wow...that felt good."
"You’re a fast learner!"
They both laughed, then headed out onto the street. It was almost done...
Another cowered in the distance.
* * * *
He remained as steady as ever in his bar, waiting – nay, hoping – for someone to dare to enter. But that didn’t serve to at all reduce his shock when he saw who did.
"You two...what are you...STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM ME, I HAVE A GUN!"
"Please, Moe. You can’t out-shoot both of us. We’re here to offer you a deal..."
"What makes you think I’m interested? This town’s been rotten at the core for years, only now the scum has made it’s way to the surface. Thanks to...thanks to you."
"Look, this doesn’t have to be complicated. You’re either with us, or against us."
"You people make me sick. I’d rather die than –"
And then he stopped dead in his tracks, and his stern expression turned into a delirious grin.
"...I’d rather die..."
Finally, he had the courage to pull the trigger.
*BANG!*
"...Wow."
* * * *
He remained under his desk, certain that there was more to come. He'd never been afraid of death, but tonight...tonight was different. Death was everywhere. Soon it would surely be on his doorstep.
* * * *
They stepped out of the bar and onto the deserted street once again, slowly but surely realising the magnitude of what they’d achieved.
"...Is that it?"
"That's it."
"Who the hell would have thought it would come down to this?"
"Not me, Bart, that’s for sure. But despite everything...look around. Look around and tell me it wasn’t worth it. You know that you can’t."
"...I’m with you on that one. It’s amazing...this is Springfield. This is my town."
"Our town, Bart. Our town."
"Of course."
There was a brief silence; they had little clue what to say to one another.
"Uhm...seeya tomorrow, I guess? There’s a few vacancies at the Mayor’s office..."
"Ha! Tomorrow it is. Sleep well, Bart."
"You too...Edna..."
And with that, they headed their separate ways. Springfield no longer needed to be under siege; those who were left would wake to find themselves with no option but for submission.
* * * *
Day finally broke, and he emerged. Safe and sound.
He had no idea how, but he’d done it. For the first time in weeks he took to the streets and surveyed the consequences of the chaos; blood-stained pavements, shattered windows and broken homes. The constant sound of quivering, tearful mothers, rage-fuelled fathers and innocent, oblivious children had been replaced by an all-encompassing silence. It took his breath away.
Still, he did not feel guilty. Above all else, he was...relieved. He had survived, his fortune intact, and that was all that mattered. The town would no doubt wage more wars...and when the time once again came, he would decide where he stood.
And the Most Dramatic Moment of 2009 is...
The Power Rangers' "Fake Message" being answered by Mr. T Jobs To Me!
Well. crap. Hey D_W_W. did you get that thing I sent you?
Nope, did not receive anything.

Night 10
She had grown herself to a gigantic size, and stomped through the city in search of her target. Wand in hand, she was more than ready to make an attack. She sized up her target as she spotted her.
A blast from the wand fired directly at the girl, who managed to dive out of the way of the incoming attack. Several more blasts would fire down, each of which missing it's target as the dancer managed to gracefully avoid each and every attempt at taking her life.
The dancer seemed proud as she dodged, showing up the gigantic witch.
If only she'd know there was another behind her, waiting with weapon in hand. The attacker made one simple swipe down her back and she fell to the ground, an inaudible scream trying to escape as she died.
The witch had been so distracted by what was going on below, her own back had been open for attack. Her attacker couldn't think of much that could do the trick, but possibly something from her past would be effective.
As such, a canister opened behind her, sucking her down into it before the attacker shut the lid tightly.
------------------------------------------------------
Out of breath, someone slumped against the side of a building, with no clue where they'd wound up.
"Curse that little girl."

Conan O'Brian: We've just about put this one to bed folks, now for the one you've all been waiting for, the induction of the 2009 Hall of Fame class!
The GDS Mafia Hall of Fame is meant to honor those that have given so much of their time to the 'family', as it were, recognizing outstanding overall performance, community spirit, and honorable play. Tonight's class will join a literal who's who of the GDS Mafia community, including SadisticBlessings, Undertaker666, theoutlaw321, Arrows, djthefunkchris, and Wallbanger.
Our first inductee is a formidable player, an innovative game designer, and finds ways to enrich the community helping wherever he can. He is a 3-time Scummie winner and is to date the only player to win a game as a serial killer.
Your first inductee in the GDS Mafia Hall of Fame Class of 2009... Imarevenant!
Next to join the Hall is a five-time Scummie winner, including three wins in this year's awards. He is a captivating storyteller, an analytical player, and a sharp debater.
Welcome Antithesis to the GDS Mafia Hall of Fame!
Finally, an induction that many might say has been overlooked in previous years. An ambitious game designer and moderator, his games always draw large crowds and high participation. He's been recognized as a top-tier player from the outset and never fails to draw attention for both the quality of his play and his entertaining style.
Joining the GDS Mafia Hall of Fame...derek_b!
Give these fine folks, and all our winners, one last round of adulation!
It's been a blast everyone! See you at the wrap party!

I think it was Bill (a Survivor), you (B.S.A.A.), one of the Infected, and Rev.
Technically Bill was a regular townie, but his PM said he needed to survive. For some people, there's a difference between surviving and winning, but I don't call things that way. :p
There weren't any standard, blue townies left.
Rev claimed, but SF (Bill) was a pretty solid townie, so it was either Rev or the Infected. You guys went with Rev. Then, Rev killed Bill, stalemate, Rev killed you. Game Over.
If you'd have lynched Rev (far from unlikely), then, if that infected had a kill (I don't remember), it would come down to whether he targeted you or Bill. If he had a kill and killed Bill (and you didn't kill the Infected), it would come down to your 50/50 bullet. Head you win, tails the Infected win.
If the Infected killed you, stalemate, it would kill Bill, game over.
So, if that Infected had a kill, 4 players, 4 possible survivor/winner combinations (Prophet & SF, Just Prophet, Rev, or the Infected).
EDIT: Multiple ending possibilities based on player performance? Sounds like a survival horror game to me!
EDIT EDIT: Yea, the Tank was still left... I also find it amazing 3 survivors made it down to the final 7... How did such a genre savvy game not get more awards? :p

Best Scum Catcher? Me? ME? Seriously? I had like one good game with a power role. Sure, in that game I tore the scum to shreds with a skip in my step and a song in my heart... but it was a one time deal. Too late to take it back now though y'all, I'm taking this award home with me. I will however let bak42 borrow it on alternating weekends. The dude more than pulled his weight during FF.
Nicely done awards show. Rock on.

I'm surprised I won for the Silverton Sheriff. I guess it's not much of a surprise when you get handed the role.
I'm more surprised I survived until the end considering I was on the lynching block day after day after day.

I want to thank everyone who voted for me. Honestly, while I thought the write ups for SIN might win (to wit both Rev and DWW deserve credit there for working on them as well) I felt that, in general, there were a lot of great write ups this year in Mafia games, and in particular, the Springfield and Final Fantasy games featured some strong writing that I liked as well.
I didn't expect to win best moderator... tbh looking back at SIN I think I was a bit of a.. well, a jackass with some of my attitude problems but as many of you know I had some serious family issues going on at the time. For people to overlook all that, well, its appreciated. As for the Hall of Fame, I really don't know what to say about that. I know this is "just a game" and "just the internet" and all, but its still a thrill to be associated with people you respect, and regardless of the situation, that never changes.
The best discussion award has special meaning for me. I know that early on quite a few people were upset at my style of criticism concerning their games or how they played, while I had never modded a game myself or helped lead a town or scum group to victory or anything like that. Looking back I realize that while many of my criticisms were fair, and I think some of what I used to argue about has been embraced by the community at large (multiple scum groups have to be treated fairly and given equal chances to win, Cults have to be balanced carefully, how you present players in write ups can sometimes force them to play the mod's game instead of their own, for example) I'll note that in my own game I committed some of the same ahh sins (heh) I used to call foul on. To that I'll only point out that I am far less critical now, having realized the sheer amount of work and difficulty that goes into creating a game, especially the larger ones.
Despite a few poorly conceived offerings, all in all I thought 2009 had some great games and some great players in them and for that the entire community deserves an award.

definitely looking forward to it, unfortunately I'm one of those freaks that if I play I have to like be obsessed and have enough time to be obsessed. If I start a game just trying to be casual I end up obsessively checking the threads anyway and I just don't have the time to do it right now.

There may be a few replacements needed in the next week or so if you're still interested, although you may have to ask Glotnot, as I'm not the mod.
