"Real" rosters are highly overrated for college games. Unlike a pro sim where they'll still be there for 10-20 years (age/skill dependant), in a college sim all the top guys are gone in 1-2 seasons, and EVERYONE is gone in 4-5 years. In my opinion, you're far better off using fictional players since they're created by the same code as that which creates each year's recruiting class - thereby ensuring proper game balance. The only times I've used "real" rosters for college sims, I've found them to be horrendously unbalanced (TCY, TDCB, etc).
Hook it up with the great work by Icy and Ixnay and let the good times roll.

To each their own, but I strongly disagree.

I agree with you, 21sec. I'd rather play with Brandon Ore (VT RB) for 4 years than to play with Desmond Freeney to start my dynasty. If you have the real rosters, you have some idea of who to go to, who is your primetime guy, or whatever. Without that, you have to go by stats and ratings which sometimes aren't indicative of what will happen. Plus, you get new players gradually than all at one time.

Well as long as you can make the player exactly the same ratings and they perform exactly as real life. I agree with Irish in 4 or fewer seasons all those players you know are gone and you have to use the fictional players.
I think the idea would be that the community would create "new" rosters every year, as they do for OOTP.
I think it'd be feasible to do a conference, but beyond that it's just way too many teams and players to do. Once the game is done being tweaked I would like to play around with rosters for the Big10.

I not interested in real rosters right now but I would be once theirs a new PRO game released and we can import the BB guys to the PRO game.

I don't mind being in a fictional football universe, I only want to edit the names to get rid of the Peter Abdul-Rahim and Arian Nations type of clusters that are found.
Just my preference though.

I agree, 21SEC...
First off, it isn't like seasons go by all that quickly, especially if you're really micromanaging your team and gameplan.
Besides, to me it makes roster managment so much easier with real player names. When I'm setting my depth chart, I know my team's real players, who to sub after an injury, the young guys I want to get PT...
I can generally remember the players (at least the top prospects) I actually recruit, and it's a lot easier only having to learn 15 or 20 fictional players each year, rather than a whole team.
Will the player editor that is supposedly going to be released at some point contain a ratings editor as well, or just names?

YES. Here is where personal taste can differ greatly. I love to tinker, tweak and take my time gameplanning and just savour every game played with the real players. No hurry to get into the next decade. To each his own. :)

I agree with jobob and 21sec. It is nice to start off with players you are familiar with and it also adds to the feeling of "building" a program.
