[Sign Up]: Over9000 Mafia

So, guess we had to go way down on the list to find a game ready to go.

This game is inspired by crayon's Over 9000 mod for TEW 2008 (coming soon[ish] to TEW2010). My "award winning" 08' diary (MDC2: The Battle Rages On) was based on this mod, hence my desire to give this universe a spin as a mafia game.

The game will start no earlier than Sunday (March 14th), as this week is busy enough that it probably wouldn't make sense for me to try for a faster start.

Some pre-game notes:

1. The game is designed for 34 players. I know that this is small for "large" game standards. If there is enough demand, I'll add some roles, though I'd only do so if I can figure out how to maintain the balance/integrity of the game.

2. The game, while not dark, is designed to be dim. I am a firm believer in not giving away too much in the write-ups. Just a heads up, in the event that you are the type of player that prefers more detailed, informative write-ups.

I am just happy to see a theme based on something with a large character base. Sometimes I feel themes can be too restricting with few characters or very little grey area.

Also, though I don't expect it I will mark out if Kenshiro is in, even more so if I get him.

If anyone is hesitent about signing up due to not knowing much about anime, I'll just mention that there's also a reasonably large sized pool of American comic book characters, and the odd video game worker here and there as well. So you won't necessarily be stuck with obscure japanese character #268 if you do choose to get involved ;)

Wish I could. At this point, I think we have to take the slow signups as either a lack of enthusiasm for the specific game or a sign that mafia is slowing down in general. I'd prefer to think that people are a bit uninterested in the game, as that would give us hope for more large games in the future. But, time will tell.

Anyhow, talked to Rev and he agrees.

We're going to set a deadline on sign-ups for Wednesday at 2 pm Eastern. Will send out roles on Wednesday afternoon and start the game on Wednesday night.

I think the slow sign-ups is just a sign that games struggle to get over9000... er, 30 sign-ups in general - have for at least the last 6 months. Partly could be due to having a second game running, and people not wanting to be involved in two games - especially as Zim was quite a large small game.

Same with me. This week I got to research and type up a 10 page paper for one of my classes, but I should be off and on during the afternoon and early part of the night it's just the later parts of the night I might not be on the forum at all.

So, long story short: When the game looked like it'd be 30 or 32 players, I consulted with Rev and made a few adjustments.

Turns out I quite liked the adjustments and so wanted to go through the list with Rev again, just to make sure that this made sense for 34 players.

Think we're happy with everything now though.

Unfortunately, I have a lunch meeting off campus in an hour and a half. Given that I need time to travel (IRL) and the timer between PMs, I won't be sending out the PMs until I get back in a few hours.

After that, I'll give everyone the rest of the day to read and ask questions. Will post the game thread and the opening write-up tonight.
