NXT opens with the entire NXT locker room, male and female wrestlers, in the ring. Everyone is wearing masks of confusion when NXT General Manager, William Regal, steps to the stage. He says that in ten days NXT will take over Phoenix and on that night the NXT title will be decided between Black and Ciampa, the Triple Threat Match will determine the NXT North American Title, the Tag Team Titles are on the line just to name a few big matches for TakeOver. But, that's not why the NXT Superstars are standing in that ring.

In ten days, NXT will take over Phoenix but, the reason that NXT is even there is because the very next night is the Royal Rumble. The Royal Rumble Match always promises big surprises and NXT talent have made their mark in years past. This year shall be no different because Regal has just gotten off a conference call with Shane and Stephanie McMahon and they have agreed. There will be NXT talent in both the men's and women's Royal Rumble Match...and should one of NXT's talent win the Rumble...their title challenge will not take place at TakeOver: New York, it will take place in the main event aof Wrestlemania! Ladies, gentlemen, be ready for TakeOver: Phoenix but, should your name and number be ready to take over the Royal Rumble.

The crowd chants NXT while the talent realize that NXT could main event Wrestlemania. The announcers are excited as NXT goes to it's opening video.

Evans tries to get some offense in early on and stuns the champ but she is soon met with a blistering back hand to the face and then Baszler dominates. She brutalizes Evans with stiff punches and kicks in the corner and throws her around the ring. The champ locks in an ankle lock but Evans, somehow, is able to get to the ropes before tapping. She is not so lucky when she stands up, the Queen of Spades hits a Gut Wrench Powerbomb and then locks in the Kirifuda Clutch and Evans has no choice but to immediately tap out.

Winner by Submission and still NXT Women’s
Champion: Shayna Baszler
Rating: 3.3

Following the win, Jessamyn Duke comes down to congratulate her friend and encourages the champ to decimate Evans some more. Together they throw her around until officials rush the ring. As Duke and Baszler go up the ramp, Dakota Kai and Io Shirai jump the barricade and surround Duke and Baszler.
They prepare to fight when Kairi Sane comes out from the back and she has 3 kendo sticks.

She throws them to her friends and then the beat down is own as Duke and Baszler are being brutalized. Finally more officials come out and separate all 5 women. This brings Regal back out where he announces that their six women TakeOver match will now be a war because it will now be Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir against Kairi Sane, Io Shirai and Dakota Kai in a No Disqualification Match.

As expected this is a big man battle between these behemoths and Heavy Machinery does do well early on but, soon Hanson and Rowe just beat the garbage out of their opponents. When it looks like the War Raiders are about to win, Kyle O'Reilly & Roderick Strong come out onto the stage and distract Hanson. This allows Otis to nail him behind and Heavy Machinery nails the Compactor. The Undisputed Era celebrates as Otis covers for the 1...2....Hanson kicks out. Hanson is able to tag in Rowe who soon cleans house and Tucker Knight is hit with Fallout for the 3 count.

The champs walk away looking nervous.

Backstage an official is seen with bolt cutters on a door while pounding is heard. He is able to break a padlock and Marina Shafir comes out. Just then Jessamyn Duke & Shayna Baszler come to the door and ask where was she. The official confirms that Shafir was locked in this locker room and she says it was Kairi and her gang that set them up. Shayna promises there will be hell to pay at TakeOver.

Early on Black beats Fish down but, Bobby is able to get a low blow when the ref isn't looking and soon the veteran of the match is showing Black how it is done. Fish punishes Aleister with a half Boston Crab but Black won't tap out. Fish continues to work on the knee with a Dragon Screw Leg Drop and again to the half crab. Aleister is able to make it to the ropes and to the floor. When Bobby comes diving through the ropes, Black nails him with a European Uppercut and a GTS on the floor. He rolls Fish back into the ring and covers 1...2...Bobby kicks out. Black goes for the Black Mass but Fish ducks and nails the Saito Suplex. He covers for a 2 count. Fish nails the Falcon Arrow and then locks in the Fish Hook Deluxe. Black is screaming in agony as his left knee and ankle is contorted. Somehow Aleister is able to push up and drag himself to the ropes. Bobby, enraged charges, BLACK MASS! Aleister connects out of nowhere and covers...1...2...3.

Winner by Pinfall: Aleister Black

Following the match Aleister looks down at Bobby Fish with a look of respect, he knows that he got away with this barely. As he begins to limp out of the ring, the lights go out.

When they return Aleister is looking at the entrance ramp for Ciampa but, Ciampa slides out from under the ring and comes into the ring. He clips Aleister Black from behind in the knee that Fish has hurt. He places the NXT Title on the mat and then slams Black's knee into it. Ciampa goes out of the ring and grabs a chair and places Black's knee into the chair and then goes to the second rope. The diabolical champion jumps off and Black screams in agony as the announcers put over that Tommaso Ciampa may have just taken Aleister Black out of TakeOver: Phoenix. The champ celebrates as officials check on the fallen challenger as NXT goes off the air.
