Adding to Jim Crockett's woes, Ric Flair suffers a hernia in a match for the NWA World title against Hercules Ayala in Puerto Rico's WWC...Flair would miss a month and when he returns to action, he'd be back touring with New Japan Pro Wrestling...AWA promoter Verne Gagne calls 'Mr. Electricity' Steve Regal a "friend of the family" in an interview with Pro Wrestling Illustrated...in unrelated news, Steve Regal would team with fellow mid-carder Brad Rheingans to win the AWA World Tag Team titles in November, carrying the belts for six months...After losing the AWA World title to Wahoo McDaniel, Hulk Hogan loses 8 of his next 9 matches (his only win was over rookie Donald Texas)...Hogan quits the AWA in early October...other than a pair of matches in late December in Memphis, Hogan would spend the rest of the year touring with New Japan Pro Wrestling...amateur wrestling star Rick Steiner quits the USA Olympic team 10 months before the Summer games begin in Los Angeles, instead Steiner begins training for professional wrestling...


Michigan wrestling standout Rick Steiner skips the Olympics to learn the pro game...will he have an impact?

...Ricky Steamboat ends his run in CWA (Memphis) and would next appear in Mid-South in November...well respected veteran Chief Jay Strongbow, a 2-time WWF tag team champion, wrestles his final match...Strongbow would stay with the WWF as a backstage road agent for several years...

...Jerry "The King" Lawler has a run in the AWA, but ratings and attendance continue to drop...Road Warrior Hawk defeats Jack Brisco for the Southern Heavyweight title in Memphis...Ernie Ladd defeats Stan Hansen in one of the best matches in Mid-South history (94)...Buddy Roberts and Michael Hayes turn on former Freebird Terry Gordy in WCCW, turning Gordy babyface for the first time in his career




More of the same for the WWF in October...Tommy Rich defeats Killer Khan to retain the WWF World title...Rich would spend the rest of the month teaming with Andre the Giant in main event matches against the likes of Larry Zbyszko, Bob Backlund, Tully Blanchard and Roddy Piper




GCW continues to lead the TV ratings race, peaking at a record setting 2.6 million viewers for an episode of their weekly Saturday night World Championship Wrestling show...GCW holds The Last Battle of Atlanta, with Jimmy Snuka defeating Billy Graham in the main event...the babyface team of Buzz Sawyer and Tito Santana defeat the East-West Connection on national television (Adrian Adonis and Jesse Ventura)


Gordon Solie interviews Ted Dibiase on World Championship Wrestling...at the time the episode was the highest rated episode for a weekly wrestling program in US History




Despite a few great matches from Flair, McDaniel and Kevin Von Erich, JCP continues to falter..."Jumpin" Jim Brunzell main events Crockett's annual Halloween Show with a win over Chris Colt...the show, dubbed Halloween Havoc, is a disaster (40)




Hercules Ayala holds on to the NWA World title in October, beating Pedro Morales and going to a no contest against former champ Ric Flair




RCW holds End of Days '83 in front of 21 screaming fans...the 90 minute show sees Donnie Texas battle Doug Vines for the RCW Heavyweight title...Texas wins by DQ when JD Greene heads to the ring and attacks Texas..."Homeless" Mick, who again panhandled outside the show to raise money to buy a ticket, rushes out of the crowd for the save!
