Default World Cup of MMA

Decided to sim this with Weidt's Fresh Start mod. I randomly picked 16 groups of four, simulating a group stage like in the Fifa World Cup. For the first round, I started with Heavyweights. Following a round robin in each group, 2 men from each would move on to the next round. The Points system worked like this

3 Points - Knockout or Submission victory
2 Points - TKO, Forfeit or Cut Stoppage
1 Point - Decision of any type, Disqualification Victory
0 Points - Loss
-1 Point - Disqualification Loss

Going into the bracket stage, 32 men were brought down to 16, then to 8, then to four, who were brought to two. The 3rd and 4th place were determined by another fight. The Heavyweight tournament wound up like this:

First Place - Gold Medal - Hassan Fezzik - Turkey
Second Place - Silver Medal - Fred McNally - USA
Third Place - Bronze Medal - Gunnar Nilsson - Sweden
Fourth Place - Certificate - Jeff Carlton - USA

Naturally I figured that Fezzik would win, but I didn't expect Fred McNally to make it so far into the tournament. Thinking of doing Featherweight now, to learn about some of the new fighters in the division with Weidt's mod, haven't seen them all yet. I'll keep you guys posted on the next one. If any of you guys decide to try it, post your results here

First - Gold - Lamont Banner (USA)
Second - Silver - Greg Castelein (NET)
Third - Bronze - Brice Armstrong (CAN)
Fourth - Certificate - Elliot Morgan (USA)

Lot of upsets in this one.

Elliot Morgan made his way to the Semi-Finals, beating Kenny Magilton, Colm Dee, and Luke Barnes. Had a fairly easy group stage though, with Luke Barnes, Hal Collins & Yuji Latu.

Brice Armstrong beat a lot of tough guys to make it to the Semis. Group stage was really easy for him, with Santiago Tosso, Neil Brooks & Steven Griffin. Made it to the Semis beating Harry Graham, Ang Dong, and Lito Alcala.

Elliot and Brice fought to see who would take the bronze medal, and Brice finished him off in Round 1 with a Guillotine choke.

Greg Castelein had a rather difficult group stage, with a very even score with Erico Gil and Hinton Grey. However, knocking out Jamal Jones made sure that he would move on to the 32. Had very easy bracket matches though, beating Trevion Chymes, Doug Minnelli and Ronan Mary. To make the final, he Knocked Out Elliot Morgan, and was to face off with Lamont Banner.

Lamont Banner dominated the group stage, Knocking out Gregor Trevino and Brendon Job, but was choked out by Francesco Marazzina, still, he had enough of a score to make it to the bracket. From there on, he knocked out Korekiyo Anzai, avenged his loss to Francesco Marazzina, and KO'd Norberto. A split decision victory over Brice Armstrong allowed him to get to the finals, to face off with Greg Castelein.

Greg and Lamont faced off in the finals, in a five round fight, but it didn't last that long at all, as Lamont finished him with a TKO in the second round, giving him the gold.

Thinking of going with Middleweights this time.

I think this is a pretty cool ide, though I wouldn't give points for specific finishes. 5x5 rounds, everything goes. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and none if you lose.

To really simulate as closely as possible, you could run 2 30 minute rounds with no judges decision, meaning a win would have to come via a finish. That would increase the likelihood of draws and reward the ability to finish without differentiating between finishes by KO, sub, TKO or stoppage. You'd get the drama of a fighter being outclassed, but desperately trying to hold on for the draw to earn a point. Then maybe you could use means of finishing as a possible tiebreaker.

I've run regular promotions with these sorts of rules, and it can be somewhat interesting. You get a lot of late submissions due to exhausted fighters no longer having the energy to defend even simple moves.

Going to showcase the new rules with thanks to the guys who assisted me with them by giving opinions.

New Rules will go as so:

3 Points for A Win
1 Point for A Draw
0 Points for A Loss

1 Ten Minute Round, 3 Five Minute Rounds (25 Minutes Total)

If you'd like to follow this, It'll be down in the dynasty section.

Another thing you could do is run tournys to see who gets to rep. their country. Dunno how you decide who goes in atm.

Pretty cool idea, though I strongly disagree with TKO being worth less than a KO or Sub.

I did debate with myself about that rule, I might consider changing it for the next division (Light-Heavyweights).

Really am enjoying it though, got me back into the game that's for sure.
