"Art Davie proposed to Rorion Gracie and John Milius an eight man single-elimination tournament with a title of War of the Worlds. The tournament was inspired by the Gracies in Action video-series produced by the Gracie family of Brazil which featured Gracie Jiu-Jitsu students defeating martial-arts masters of various disciplines such as karate, kung fu and kickboxing. The tournament would feature martial artists from different disciplines facing each other in no-holds-barred combat to determine the best martial art and would aim to replicate the excitement of the matches Davie had seen on the videos.[16] Milius, a noted film director and screenwriter, as well as a Gracie student, agreed to be the event's creative director. Davie drafted the business plan and twenty-eight investors contributed the initial capital to start WOW Promotions with the intent to develop the tournament into a television franchise."

I dont have an openweight class.. everyone is already set in their individual weight classes (HW, LHW, MW...etc) Which is why I figured Teila didnt want to sign.. but its all good because him not showing up changed everything.

Gracie was the underdog going into this fight, nobody could really see someone with his weight beat a tougher opponent in Art Jimmerson. The fight basically ended at the 15:20 mark when Gracie Took down Jimmerson after a long boring stand up, took his back and submitted him with a rear naked choke.

Ken Shamrock (Shoot Fighting) (3-0) Def. Patrick Smith (Tae Kwon Do) (0-0)

Pancrase Fighter Shamrock quickly took down Smith, and locked in a heel hook to see him the winner at 7:43

Ron Van Cleif (Chinese Goju) (0-0) Def. Gerard Gordeau (Karate) (0-0)

Long and boring Fight. Van Cleif was near exhaustion out eventually caught Gordeau with a right hook.. knocking him out at the 45:53 mark.

Zane Frasier (Karate) (0-0) Def. Kevin Rosier (Kick-Boxing) (0-0)

The karate expert in Frasier catches Rosier on the chin.. than swarms him to force the ref to take him off, thus stoping the bout.

Alternate Bout:
Jason Delucia (Kung- Fu) (0-0) Def. Trent Jenkins (Freestyle) (0-0)

Jenkins controlled the match and was looking to be the victor up until the the 24:00 mark when Delucia swarmed a shocked Jenkins.. technically knocking him out.

Royce Gracie (Gracie Jiu Jitsu) (1-0) Def. Ken Shamrock (Shoot Fighting) (4-0)

Shamrock controlled the fight for the most part holding Gracie up agaisnt the cage and smothering him for the longest time.. about 40 min, did pass though.. and Gracie Caught Shamrock with a right hook which knocked him out cold.. making Gracie the winner!

Zane Frasier (Karate) (1-0) Def. Ron Van Cleif (Chinese Goju) (1-0)

Can Clief gassed out after basically countering every punch Frasier threw at him.. and got caught with a right power swing.. sending him to the canvas.. and ending his 15. min of fame.

Finals
Royce Gracie (Gracie Jiu Jitsu) (2-0) Def. Zane Frasier (Karate) (1-0)

Quick finish in the finals.. Gracie took down Frasier quickly, took his back and submitted him with a rear naked choke to become the UFC 1 Tournament winner!

Post fight Conference: Art Jimmerson Calls out Ken Shamrock and declares he can defeat Shamrock 4x's faster than Gracie did. He calls out Shamrock for ufc 2..
The UFC President Announces there will be a mini-type of event which will feature 16 fighters in singles matches against each other to qualify for the UFC 2 tournament. its said that there will be some new and some old faces.. Gracies is announced to officially return at this event to defend his Tournament title.

You oughta start out with 1 open weight class and then transition as the sport grows. Ok, I admit it. I just like sumo wrestlers in MMA.
