Is there any serious improvements? These are the main features posted from FM:

Transfers & Contracts – significant changes to the transfer and contract systems, including loyalty bonuses, better implementation of amateur and youth contracts, an improved transfer centre and the ability to lock areas of the contract negotiation when you aren't prepared to budge. This helps you to manage your budgets and gives you flexibility in what you offer money hungry players, or agents, as incentives.

I usually run a huge club, so finance is not an issue

Scouting improvements – using several real life scouting reports, a new in-game report has been devised which includes squad analysis, tactics information and information about goals scored and conceded alongside lots of other scouting improvements, giving you all the information you need to prepare before kick-off and throughout the season.

Another one i do not care about because i use a program which tells me which player has potential and which not

3D Match Improvements – new animations, a whole new crowd system, improved weather system, more stadiums, plus two brand new cameras - "Behind Goal" and "Director Cam" as well as all other camera angles being reversible – meaning you can watch and analyse every aspect of every game.

Although that is nice, not a good enough reason for me to buy it

Manage Anywhere, Anytime – the ability to add or take away playable nations in your saved game as often as you want. Manage in that country at the start of the next season- meaning you don’t have to stay in the nations which are chosen by you to be playable at the start of your career.

I usually run one club (Tottenham), so i am unlikely going to care about this feature

Tone – a whole new level has been added to team talks and conversations, with the new tone system, which allows you to specify the way you want to say things – be as cool as a cucumber by saying things calmly or throw tea cups around by saying things with passion. There are 6 different tones to choose from with specific comments per tone.

A useless one, i cannot be bothered with comments, i leave that to the Assistant usually.

Intelligent Interface – a new adaptive layout system, which means the higher your screen resolution, the more info is easily at your fingertips. The new interface also contains new filters, customisable columns, a new tactics screen, and lots of new overview screens.

The last layout was fine, in fact this can be bad news because i cannot be bothered to get used to a totally new layout.

Brand New Tutorial – standing separate from the main game, a mode to help new players find their way around the game easily, whilst also offering tips to experienced managers on how to get the most out of the game, as well as a new in-game “how to” system.

I have been playing the game since 1993, i sure do not hope i will need a tutorial to play this game.

Things i would like to see and i think are not in are:

- I would like more options and flexibility on how to setup the leagues, such as editing the Champions League, adding the Brazil or Argentinian league to Europe
- Maybe a bit more control over player development or more options such as youth camps around the world
- I would like allot more history such as a all time top 20 or more for most assits, appearances for the club.
- The biggest one is without much doubt the ability to add my old save game to the newer version.

I know the newer version will be better, the thing is i spent HOURS playing FM 2011 and to loose all that history (i am 2026 now), i will need a hell of a good reason, which currently i do not see. In fact i probably would never had bout 2011 if not for the "league development thing" which allows leagues to improve and decline depending on performance and the option to have various different club relations\affiliations

I started a go in the early hours as Dunfermline. I've not really gone into too much depth at the moment but the one negative thing I did notice is typical "FM Bull****" when it comes to results. It seems the curse of random resulting is back for 2012! Now the random win/losses aren't what bothers me most, but it's the scorelines that irritate me. Look at real life and tell me when has a team had a results sequence like this:

Dunfermline 1 Crawley 1 (Friendly)
Dunfermline 4 Dunfermline Reserves 0 (Friendly)
Dunfermline 0 Walsall 2 (Friendly)
Dunfermline 1 Huddersfield 3 (Friendly)
Dunfermline 5 St Mirren 0
Dunfermline 1 Inverness 7
Dunfermline 4 St Johnstone 2
Dunfermline 0 Dundee United 6
Dunfermline 0 Motherwell 5
Dunfermline 6 Kilmarnock 3

I just can't accept these and it destroys the game for me which sucks because I was actually looking forward to this after the demo, but now I feel cheated. 15 goals scored in the league and 23 conceded in 6 games or to average it 2.5 goals scored per game and 3.8 conceded per game.. I am hoping this isn't going to be the case when I start up a new game.

Now the positives, I actually like the "tone" function because there was nothing worse than a player getting the arse when you mentioned how badly they had played, like they immediately thought you were shouting at them. It also adds depth to players responses (sorts out the volitile primadonnas and calm, mild mannerd players). The option to add and remove leagues is a very good feature in my opinion. It means if I get a good game started and end up in 2027 again I won't have to start again if I want to manage in a country that I hadn't put on at the start. The 3d match engine is pretty good, but I won't really use it much. Locking certain parts of contract offers is also a welcome addition. It means I no longer have to say "take it or leave it" to every part of the contract and gives more options for negotiations (this is probably my favourite feature). I haven't really gone too in depth with the scouting yet so can't comment but last years was pretty good so hopefully the improvements will add to it rather than take away.

I would say at this stage I give it 6/10 because of the seemingly random results. Early days though.

I would not agree. Result system just got another step forward, all my Brighton results are tight and if I lose by big margin, I clearly see what was the problem (Like 0-4 lose against Bolton I had, My team did not train attacking formation and I have had put another two players up to the front to come back after 2-0, which seemingly did not work.

I would give it 9/10. Everything seems better, only thing they need to polish is very "unrealistic" transfers. PSG or Malaga would not buy only one 2,5M rated player in whole season, I think transfer engine needs hard overhaul at last.

Well hopefully then that Dunfermline game I ran was a one off because as you can see from the results I posted, those are not realistic - and I've been playing these since the original CM so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing in terms of training/tactics/selection etc.

I was going to start a game with Brighton - well, they are my town of birth .

EDIT: Ok so now 4 hours of starts and restarts - I have deleted this game off of my PC because without a shadow of a doubt, this is the WORST Football Manager installment of them all. I really want to like this game, and tried with the positives, but since my previous post - those positives are the only ones this game has! My assisstant manager got manager of the month which is laughable because I don't use him (except for friendlies) much. Now that would be hilarious if I hadn't spent £29.99 on the thing!

The Transfer System: On a whole after further use is actually worse than last years! I enjoy playing as a small club normally so didn't notice it before but unless you are a HUGE team, you cannot sign anyone who is of any value! Example - Celtic, Wilson at Liverpool is available on loan and they want 50% of his wage paid (he's on £20,000 so they'll want me to pay £10,000) yet I can't even offer 10%!!!! WTF?!?! No doubt someone is going to say "check your budget", to those I say - only an idiot wouldn't check his budget! I offloaded Kris Commons and Georges Samaras the week before and have plenty to money to cover £10,000. So I decided to go for someone else, and again I can offer 0%!

Results: These haven't changed from earlier. I started a network game with my friend and he is having the exact same problem in terms of erratic results. We have different styles and managing in different leagues, so it would seem "normal" results are not "normal" in this game because it starts off good (win here, loss there) then 5-0 win, followed by 5-0 loss, followed by 6-0 win followed by FIVE defeats just to come back and win 3-0, 4-0 in the next 2. Now if that sequence had gone 1-0 win, followed by 1-0 loss followed by 2-0 win followed by 5 defeats followed by 1-0 win and 2-0 win it would be more realistic. As I've said, these sorts of results are not just being experienced by me. I appreciate not everyone is having this issue, but plenty of others are and it's not really making me want to buy any future releases.

Those are 2 big parts of a football management game that need to be spot on, and because they can't even get either correct it kills any other "cool" feature and renders them pointless, like a gormet burger wrapped in a dog**** roll - the game just bombed from a 6/10 to a 2/10 and a deletion!

Got it yesterday as well and started a "test" game with Arsenal. I limited myself to only one signing in the summer window, so I made it count with Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani from Napoli who is scoring goals for fun.

Never had these problems. Maybe you need to look at your tactics. They seem to change a bit every new release.

As someone else mentioned I will have a game I may drop 4-0 or 5-0 but it was completely my fault as I had a bad tactical gameplan or failed my team in some way. I dont think Ive ever just had a random 5-0 ass kicking.

Teams that counterpunch me are my weakness especially when they have talent.

In any case give it some time. The engine will be very solid at the end of the 2nd patch.

To be perfectly honest, in your situation, I wouldn't bother until you get bored of your 2026 game. All the "improvements" seem to have done so far is confused the **** out of me. I can see it's a better game, but it's a better game that I personally don't have time to learn. I'm fairly sure being a football manager in real life is actually less stress and hassle. :P

Well, I am doing well with Brighton. Signed Cohen from Forest for 2M and Priskin, the striker from Ipswich for merely 750k.

My team talks look like working, and all my players are at very good or superb morale. I played 10 games and I am currently at second spot.

Some of my games:
BHA 3-2 Porsmouth
Ipswich 0-3 BHA
BHA 0-4 Bolton (League Cup) - My team did not really played bad here, it was actually pretty even match. Hoskins had 3-4 clear cut chances, but goalie did very well. After Boltons first goal by header, I changed to more attacking style and ball-to-space until the end, but it costed me. It was a nice match though.
