Why were there two completely separate TV shows made about the Borgias last year? Do TV Execs not bother finding out what other companies are making? And more to the point, why did Canal+ even bother, knowing that JEREMY FREAKIN' IRONS was playing Rodrigo in the other one? I'm sorry, but he doesn't hold a candle to the other guy with the very obvious east coast accent (the rest of the cast are TRYING Spanish/Italian/French accents. That dude just can't be arsed with it at all).

Has anyone seen both? I've only seen the non-Irons one. I found out about it due to searching for Jeremy Irons (I love his work, and I love the Borgia story, so it seemed perfect) but Netflix only had the one without Irons. By the time I worked out that Jeremy Irons wasn't going to be in it, I figured I might as well carry on watching. That, and Giovanni De' Medici is played by the actor that plays Samwell Tarly. Nice to see him playing a character that actually has some balls.

Is the Showtime series as much better as I think/hope it is, to warrant watching both? There's not much really 'wrong' with the Canal+ series to be fair, it just has some dodgy acting, and is sometimes basically a porno (although I'm not complaining about the hot chick getting jiggy in the OPENING CREDITS because she has a niiiice body ¬_¬). Also, they don't do a great job of explaining who the hell anyone is. I didn't know who Rodrigo Borgia was until the second episode (but to be fair that's mostly because I was looking out for Jeremy Irons) and because most of the cast have decent accents, it's hard to catch people's names the first few times, even though I'm somewhat familiar with the big names of the time historically.

And the way they pronounce De' Medici pisses me off. (It's clearly 'deh med-EE-see', as in Assassin's Creed. Not 'duh MED-itchy', like in nowhere else ever).

It's MED-itchy. Dude, do you know Italian pronounciations? If you did you wouldn't say something like that. Asking your question, Iron's show is worth watching, so do that as soon as you can. It's really good stuff. And you will know who everyone is, trust me.

How is it Meditchy? I've never heard that, anywhere. :P

The letter c is almost always soft when it's alone if it's not at the start or end of a word: Mancini, calcio, lucido, Lucio, Luciano, Francesc, St. Lucia (those two are Spanish, but still), porcini mushrooms.

The only time I've ever heard it pronounced hard is when it comes before an a, as in Luca, or when there are two of them (Lecce, Cicciano).

Admittedly, Marco and pancetta are... problematic. The latter is just weird anyway, why would it be pronounced as if it has an 'h' after it? That's just weird. Thinking about it, Rodrigo's own daughter is problematic too (but you can't really say Lucrezia with a soft c, it'd sound weird). But ignore all these exceptions and concentrate on my list of examples that agree with me. ¬_¬

So why wouldn't it be Med-eesee.

Please watch The L.A. Complex on The CW. Pretty please, people? It's Melrose Place-y, but it's better than The CW's 90210 and Gossip Girl. Character development is a strong suit -- characters struggle, but they are sympathetic, they are dynamic, and things always seem to happen during each episode. It deserves better than the paltry 0.2-0.3 it's getting in the 18-49 demo, that's just sad (and pretty much last in ratings for major? networks).

Metacritic ratings indicate that it's the best new The CW show but no one knows about it and no one watches it. And yet, it *has* been renewed for S2, and it will run concurrently with the Canadian version during the summer (starting July 24th). It will be interesting to see the ratings story then.
Good deal, I was wondering what was happening with this show. Looking forward to the second season, I remember being pretty invested into it and then they had some "mid-season finale" or something..

Were those examples supposed to be pronounced Mansenee Calsio and so on? Is that what you said? Are you nuts? xD

I was wondering if anyone had problems watching Game of Thrones tonight. When I watched it the episode kept pausing, so I decided to watch it at 11 and it did the exact same thing. I guess I will watch it tomorrow when it goes on ONDemand.

I'm catching it right now on HBOgo and I am glad I seen this. It's been really laggy and skiping. It could be the HBO network is being a pain or something. At first I thought it was my net, but everything else is working just fine.

So at the request of friends I just watched the Pilot of Grimm, can anyone tell me if this is worth watching the rest of or not?

Also, I was at a friend of a friends house and seen an episode of a show that seemed quite interesting, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the show. Maybe someone here can help.

Pretty much it was about a boy (high schoolish?) who wound up working for the devil. The episode I seen he had to catch a baddie with a shop vac mini vacuum and take it to the DMV...now that's kinda ..... funny.

The name of the show was Reaper. Netflix streams both seasons.

I can't wait to see the new season of True Blood. Looks like we are going to find out what happened to Russell Edgington and I wonder what they are going to do with Christopher Meloni now that he is on the show.

Speaking of Russell Edgington the guy that played him was the same actor who played the man with the burnt face on American Horror Story. I did not realize that until I read it.

I think I am terrible when it comes to picking up on stuff like that. For instance I did not pick up on the fact that they guy who played Layne Pryce on Mad Men was the same guy who played Dr. David Robert Jones on Fringe. Now that I know it is the same guy I realize how dumb I am for not picking up on it.

I think partly it was because the characters are so different, which led me to not making the connection.

I thought it was pretty messed up how they killed Layne off in the last episode of Mad Men even though I saw it coming a mile away. After he was fired I knew he was going to kill himself and I knew he was going to fail. Sure enough, he failed his first try when he tried to kill himself in the Jaguar. That is what makes Mad Men so great, it is such a well written show.

I'm pretty excited to see this tonight. I'm really not a huge fan of Bill...

What is your beef with Bill?

I find his character to be on the bland side for being a Vampire but that is the way he is supposed to be.

I'm not sure. In the beginning he was cool, mysterious, and well cool. As the show progressed he became what I feel to be whiny and generic.

I know you are a big reader, so I have a question for you. Did you ever read the books which the show is based on? If so was that how he was portrayed in the books?

I have never read them so I was wondering how the differed from the show. And if maybe in the books they gave a reason why he is such a bland character.

No. I've been going through a HUGE list of books to read.

I'm going through the inheritance books right now, then it's off to the books the Golden Compass was based on, then I have to get the latest book of the "House of night" series", then maybe by then book 6 of a Song of ice and fire will be out.

Not sure I want to read the books though.
