Perhaps I had been a bit too over-zealous in putting the Women's Title match in the Main Event its first time out. Our audience didn't really know any of the women and it definitely hurt their reception. Faith and Wendy were working off some ring rust too -- it had been awhile since either worked. When the Eisen Family bought AAA from Catherine Quinn, they didn't bring anyone from the AAA roster in. Most of the angels went to QAW or 5SWW or AWW. Wendy and Faith did not. They had just floated around. I was the first person to give them a shot since then.

It was clear to me that I needed more help, though. When Joel left to start Championship Wrestling from Tennessee, I vastly underestimated the help he provided. Not only on the creative end with booking, but just in producing shows and being in the locker room. I had a lot of positive presences already -- but I felt like I needed someone else who could help me produce the shows. Someone who could help agent when I was sitting at the table. There was one person in particular in mind.

Sherie Guthrie aka Cherry Bomb. She had booked for AAA right up until Cat sold it out from under her. She was the mentor of Katherine Paris and was currently unemployed. She had retired from the ring about a year ago, the last year of her career spent just wrestler on local shows, too old for any of the companies to want to bring her in -- which was a shame. She was only forty-four. Twenty-six years in the business. I had put in a call to her and she had agreed to come in as my number two. She was going to fill the role that Joel had filled. I didn't know her well, but we had crossed paths a time or two. Whenever we had run the Pacific Northwest when I was with TCW, we had always brought in the AAA girls for the dark shows. Give them a nice pay day and hopefully shine a light on them. Tommy had never wanted to feature women's wrestling fulltime. Didn't see the point -- even when Sam Strong had launched his division. Even when the Stone's launched theirs.

Cherry came highly recommended from everyone I knew who knew her -- including Damian -- whose wife had been Sherie's boss. She would be starting just in time for Gold Rush. So I was definitely happy about that.

Gold Rush V was going to be huge. I had some very big things lined up for the two night event. We had already sold 5,000 total tickets. It was going to be a big, big weekend for Rocky Mountain Wrestling.

Rocky Mountain Wrestling returns to action with the biggest weekend in independent professional wrestling -- Gold Rush weekend. The festivities start on Friday Night with a very special Rocky Mountain Wrestling Cookout. Promoter Robert Oxford will be manning the grill and all of your favorite Rocky Mountain Wrestling stars will be there for a meet and greet.

Saturday Night the event gets underway with the first round of the tournament plus two other matches -- including Atlas and Logan Diaz fighting for the Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Champion. Can the man with the world on his shoulders dethrone the man who dethroned him?

Gold Rush will see the return of someone to Rocky Mountain Wrestling. We are not announcing who it is in advance -- but rest assured this is a MAJOR return to the company. He has recently signed a brand new contract with Rocky Mountain Wrestling and has sworn he will be here for a long, long time. Who is this mystery man?

Night Two features the second, third, and final round of the Gold Rush Tournament, plus two big World Title matches! This is the best weekend of wrestling all year -- you DO NOT want to be one of those who can't be there live. Get your tickets today before they sell out.

For the first time ever, I will be doing a prize for this show! The winner of the prediction contest will get to play a major part in something in the future of RMW [I will reveal it through private message to the winner]. There is a bonus point to be had for correctly guessing the Mystery Entrant into the Gold Rush tournament. This is someone who has been employed by Rocky Mountain Wrestling in the past -- and employed for more than just a show, they were around for a little while. We've had some great turn out on predictions throughout the life of the diary, but I've yet to do anything with them -- so this time I decided to spice it up! The prize will be for something in 2021 [to accommodate where I'm at in the game]. If there is a tie, I will accommodate that!] Let's have some fun!

Gold Rush V, Night One

Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship
Atlas w/ Lisa Bowen versus “Glorious” Logan Diaz ©
Diaz is fresh as champ and up for a long reign

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block B
“The Monster” Raymond Diaz versus Ox Mastadon w/ Lisa Bowen
Mastadon is decent, especially when he doesn't have to carry Kennedy. Good enough to beat Diaz though? Maybe, if Ray is in decline. This could set up Ox as a big monster heel.

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block B
American Machine versus Carlos Gonzalez
Too big to lose, plus Gonzalez is probably visiting for the tournament

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block B
Masked Patriot versus Carlos Barrera
I'd have given it a second thought if it was Miguel Rivera in there, but Barrera? Go back to the west coast, son

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block B
“High Flyin’ Hawaiian” James Adams versus Owen Love
Close call, but you'll need a heel to face Masked Patriot

Special Attraction
Tag Team Match
Jonathan Riggs & Herman Aldana versus The Ring Generals w/ Lisa Bowen
Nobodies versus Generals, easy pick

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block A
“The Assassin of the Squared Circle” Ernest Youngman versus Charlie Thatcher
Old man puts the Hitman over

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block A
Mystery Opponent versus “Flawless” Franklin Rush
Gotta bring em in strong, plus the nostalgia pop, plus big heel opponent... Too early for a Clyde return. Yoder's a solid pick, but for the tie breaker and a different pick from Leion, I'll go with Running Wolf

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block A
“The Return of the Monster” James Diaz versus Keith Holly w/ February Malaise
Bikers need the heat and momentum, even if it takes the youngest member of the Diaz family to take a loss

Gold Rush Tournament
Opening Round Match
Block A
“The Tiger” Alexander Vasquez versus The Natural
Wild guess here
--------------

Gold Rush V Night Two

Gold Rush Tournament Finals
Block A Winner versus Block B Winner
Returning mystery babyface beats Ox Mastadon

COTT World Heavyweight Championship
Julius Moor versus “The Cornerstone” Riley McManus w/ Jeffery Aroma
Not tonight, Julie boy...

Gold Rush Tournament
Semi Finals
Block B

Mastadon tramples Patriot because monster heel so he can face the returning face in the finals

Gold Rush Tournament

Mystery returning babyface beats the Natural

COTT World Tag Team Championship
The Devil’s Rejects [Tully & Dewes] w/ February Malaise versus The Mission ©
Bikers get the rub, but not the gold. Not yet, anyway

Gold Rush Tournament
Quarter Finals
Block B
Machine/Gonzalez versus Diaz/Mastadon
Mastadon beats the ageing Machine to further establish himself as monster heel

Gold Rush Tournament
Quarter Finals
Block B
Adams/Love versus Patriot/Barrera
Patriot beats Love

Gold Rush Tournament
Quarter Finals
Block A
Mystery/Rush versus Diaz/Holly
Holly has a solid run in the tourney leading to a big loss to the returning face

Gold Rush Tournament
Quarter Finals
Block A
Youngman/Thatcher versus Vasquez/Natural
Originally went with Youngman, but you'll need a heel to face the returning mystery face

I sat in my office in the hours after Gold Rush. I wasn’t ready to go home. I was floating on the high that comes with running back-to-back shows that were incredibly successful. Another six thousand tickets sold in those two shows. Nine thousand tickets this month to our three shows. We were consistently selling out the Oxford Arena. We were doing great business.

This weekend was also important because KC Glenn returned to the company. He had been with us for almost a year before. He had won the Rocky Mountain Tag Team Titles with Riley, he had won the first ever Oxford Invitational with Riley -- and he had been figured in to big plans when he left to go to Burning Hammer. His contract came up and he was back. Hopefully for the long haul this time. There was so much I could do with him. So much potential there.

I also got to debut Ross Henry, the former pro football player. Mr. Colorado. He had signed with SWF shortly after he turned pro. He had been the RIPW Heavyweight Champion. He got called up and almost immediately released. None of the other big name companies wanted him -- but he was a star here. He could be a big time babyface for me here.

Sean McFly was a fantastic wrestler. A great mind. In the twilight of his career. He had burned a bridge with the Stones because of his falling out with Victoria. He had been with USPW for four years but they figured he was too old to continue, but I could have room for him here. I could have something for him to do. It had been a good month. A great month. Now it was on to bigger and better things. The last third of the year. I had the plans to carry us through the end of the year. Hopefully nothing would derail them… Hopefully.

Thank you everyone for playing! Gold Rush is my second favorite show(s) of the year [the Oxford Invitational is my favorite]. This year was extra cool because I got to bring KC back into the fold, I got to debut Sean McFly and was forced to debut Ross a month earlier than planned [Logan got hurt in PGHW after I had announced the match/made the card] and while he could have worked it would have probably tanked the result so I felt that having Ross substitute in for him against Atlas would be good.

I believe DarK_RaideR won the prediction contest (unless I counted wrong), so he will get to influence something that happens later in the diary! I appreciate all of the predictions and those of you who voted for this diary in the Dec. diary of the month poll which brought it its second straight C-Verse Diary of the Month win!

Didn't expect that mass exodus out the door. So many soon to be prominent players to be poached at thr same time sucks. But I guess that is the fun in that, time for the fresh graduates to step up.

In fairness, some of the signings happened near the end of August and I rolled them over to the September news post. So it's really like three or four weeks worth of signings, but yeah, it does suck. Eisen called up most of the developmental guys (which means that I should be experiencing several people leaving SWF in the future, as that seems to be the pattern).
