I looked at Art Reed and Joel. I had known Art for some time. He had done some work for me. He had been a stand out in DAVE and had worked extensively in Japan. He had a great mind for the business -- he was really good friends with Owen Love, one of the veterans in my locker room. Art was a good guy who had been chomping at the bit to get into promoting his own organization.

I looked at both men. “Art, are you sure you want to do this?”

Art nodded his head. “I’m sure. I’ll take over Championship Wrestling from Tennessee from Joel. I had talked with Cliff about taking over for him when he retires -- but he’s not ready to retire.”

Joel smiled. “I appreciate it Art. I really do. We’ve got some good guys there. You’re in good shape. We’re drawing solid crowds. You’re in the Confederation of the Territory, so you’ve got some good allies. You’ll enjoy it.”

Art reached out his hand and shook each of ours. “I appreciate it. You guys have fun.”

Art got up from the table and walked out. He was going to be taking over Championship Wrestling from Tennessee. He was moving to Knoxville and would be happy. He already had a booker in mind -- Larry Vessey. The former owner of New York Championship Wrestling who sold his company in January of this year to Eric Eisen.

With Art out of ear shot, I leaned back in my chair and looked at Joel. “You sure you’re ready to move to Texas?”

Joel laughed. “Of course. You helped me get CWT off the ground. You and I worked together on RMW Live, I’m in this with you. You sure you want to open up a shop in Texas?”

“It was a tough call to make. I was on the fence with it -- but we’re flush with cash. I need a place for the dojo graduates to go to get some seasoning before they come up to me. RMW Live has been great, but we have to evolve. We have to get ready for the next step. The next step is trying to expand nationally. To lock up some good talent. We started out tiny. This little shop that had a little bit of money and big dreams. Now look at us? We’re going to sign some exclusive contracts. We’re going to run house shows. We’re going to get bigger and more secure. Ross Henry. Des Davids. Riley. The Rejects. KC. We have a good core. There are a couple of guys I’m bringing back into the fold and I have a meeting scheduled with Jeremy and Victoria about an idea that I have. Hopefully they’ll go for it.”

Joel nodded his head. “Whatever you need, I’m in it with you.”

“Thank you, Joel. I appreciate it.”

Joel nodded. He was my best friend. It only feels right to bring him back in the fold for this journey. This journey to national expansion.

-----------------------------------------

I sat at a table in a Tim Hortons in Calgary. Across the table from me were Jeremy Stone and Victoria Stone-McFly, the CEO and Head Booker of North of the Border Wrestling respectfully. I looked between the both of them. The brother and sister had managed the successful transition of North of the Border from their father to Jeremy. They had overeen the fall of the company to regional and the rise back up.

“You guys sure you’re in on this with me?” I asked them. I knew that my rise to ‘Cult’ and being able to offer exclusive contracts meant I could no longer be in the Confederation of Territories. I could no longer count myself among their members -- but I liked the idea of being in an alliance and I had the idea for a Global Wrestling Council. A company in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, Europe… Maybe even England eventually -- if someone could rise up to be able to really challenge 21CW. We could protect our national interests.

Jeremy nodded his head. “I’m in. I don’t want Eric setting his eyes on Canada. Packer already has his eyes up here. Ibanez has eyes on Canada. We’re in.”

Victoria nodded her head. “We even have a couple of guys we’re going to send you full time. A couple of guys you’re familiar with -- who I think could be big assets for you and who are currently getting lost in the shuffle.”

I nodded my head. I was pretty sure I knew who she meant and I would be happy to have them on board.

Jeremy looked at me intently. “Who else you going to talk to?”

I scratched my stubble. “Axxis. McMinister. Bloxsome. Tatsuko. I think this six of us can really make a go at it. An international alliance where each company is just trying to have a solid national footing but not really expand internationally or globally.”

Jeremy and Victoria both nodded. “We’re in.” The said in unison. I already knew they were in, but it was good to see their enthusiasm. The Global Wrestling Council was born. I was in it with North of the Border. I wa going to give them Canada They’d give me the United States. We could continue to share talent. They were going to send me two guys that I could use in major ways that were just in the middle of the pack for them. I would keep using David. Maybe even continue using Lucy -- they could split time with us both to really help them develop. We would work together. Protect our interests. Allow wrestling to be wrestling.

It was time to expand nationally. Time to try my hand at running a major league operation. I was still very distant from Total Championship Wrestling, Supreme Wrestling Federation and United States Pro Wrestling. I didn’t have their money. I didn’t have their television outlets -- but I had a talented group of guys. I had a hungry grew of guys. I had my brain.

We had climbed this far. We had reached the summit of the regional mountain and now our eyes were on an even bigger mountain -- an even tougher climb. I shook hands with Jeremy and Victoria. I exhaled the excitement in my body.

Rocky Mountain Wrestling had done its job. It had served its purpose. We would be the Continental Wrestling League. We would rise to dominant the United States.

The climb continues.

Congratulations on the rise, only took like five and a half years, that's pretty fast! I'll second Bison, you've really built a dynasty here.

This is AWESOME!!!

However, if you stop this "story" before you rule the wrestling world, I will riot and will never...EVER... render another title, AGAIN!

Seriously though, this is awesome. Can't wait to see where this goes from here.

Is it safe to assume I'll be getting some *cough* PM requests, again?

  • Rocky Mountain Wrestling has risen to ‘Cult’ level, as recognized by TotalExtremeWrestling.com with an importance of D+ in both the North West and Mid South.
  • Rocky Mountain Wrestling will be rebranding as the Continental Wrestling League to reflect a more national approach.
  • With the expansion, the Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship will be the North American Heavyweight Championship, the Can-Am Championship will become the United States, the Tag Team will become the North American Tag Team, and the Women’s will become the North American Women’s.
  • Joel Bryant has agreed to sell Championship Wrestling from Tennessee to Art Reed.
  • Joel Bryant has been appointed as the Head of Developmental Operations and will be running the new Texas Grappling League, a local level company that will be using a touring schedule and operate as the developmental program for Continental Wrestling League and its dojo graduates.
  • Alvin Lavin will be reporting to Texas Grappling League to serve as their lead official and Joel Bryant’s assistant.
  • The Natural and Owen Love, The Can-Am Blondes will be reporting to TGL to act as assistant trainers for the company.
  • TGL will be using the Texas Heavyweight, Texas Tag Team, and Texas Women’s Championship.
  • TGL will be allowed to hire some of their own talent to fill in gaps that they feel are missing.
  • The RMW Live Series has officially ended after 38 installments. In April, there will be only one show -- the Oxford Invitational Tournament.
  • Emma Bitch has signed with Continental Wrestling League to be based out of TGL to help work with the women that are being sent there.
  • CWL will be hiring a new crop of women since most of the women currently on the roster will be reporting to TGL.
  • Lee Bambino has signed on to be the official voice of TGL!
  • The first exclusive Continental Wrestling League contract signed was Riley McManus. More wrestlers are expected to sign exclusive deals so CWL can begin to run live shows during the week.
  • CWL has left the COTT.
  • The Global Wrestling Council has been formed by Robert Oxford. Initial members are Rocky Mountain Wrestling, Australian Pro Wrestling, Ultimate European Wrestling, North of the Border Wrestling, Pride Glory Honor Wrestling, and Original Lucha Libre is Eternal.
  • The GWC will have a World Heavyweight, World Junior Heavyweight, World Tag Team, and World Women’s.
  • Riley McManus is allowed to enter the Gold Rush tournament -- even though the ultimate prize will be the newly minted GWC World Tag Team Championships -- because it is a tournament and is not deemed specifically for a championship.

Continental Wrestling League -- formerly known as Rocky Mountain Wrestling is proud to continue the tradition of excellence of Rocky Mountain Wrestling as we expand nationally. The first show under the new CWL name will be the fourth Robert Oxford Invitational. There are some great teams in this tournament and this good be the best Oxford Invitational Tournament ever -- and that is saying something!

Ox Mastadon will defend the North American Heavyweight Championship -- which replaces the Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship in the co Main Event against returning "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith Brandon Smith has spent the last two years wrestling for Pride Glory Honor Wrestling before he made the decision that it was best on his body to get out of the touring schedule of PGHW and return stateside for a more traditional schedule.

We also hope our fans in Amarillo, Texas will support Texas Grappling League -- the new developmental company of Continental Wrestling League. Many of the dojo graduates can see there -- as well as a lot of the top young talent.

I wonder how happy the COTT is that you basically commandeered the main COTT titles for large chunks of your run, then left them lying in the dust.

Great job on getting to Cult, though!

Well, considering for the vast majority of the earlier years the titles weren’t my guys — and then when they became my guys they were on consistently the most popular guys in the confederation — and I didn’t actually leave the COTT until the end of April just before my show — so all but Ross Henry dropped their belts. I think they’re pretty okay with it. Especially since each of their top matches since the game started involves someone on my roster.

But thanks!
