Default Direct Competitors

I posted this as a reply to someone else’s idea, so I’d like to give credit to HoganKnowsLeast for his Sweeps Week suggestion.

My idea comes from the idea of having to up the quality of your shows during a period of competition that’s non-wrestling related.

For instance, if you’re playing as WWF in the 1990s, obviously your direct competitor is WCW on Mondays and Thursdays.

But WWF/E in mid-2001 and on has had one big competitor on Mondays for five months out of every year and it isn’t wrestling — it’s Monday Night Football.

It would be cool to have an extra section in the data base to create direct competitor shows that aren’t wrestling. And then you could set that show as a director competitor to all wrestling TV shows or only specific ones (like MNF for Raw), and also set that show’s popularity, how long that show airs (episode duration and season length) and when (spring, summer, fall, winter).

You could even do once a year competitors like the President’s state of the union address, which would affect all U.S. companies which have tv shows.

Then, to go along with Hogan’s suggestion, your owner or broadcasting company could expect you to ramp up your product while in direct competiton with that show.

“USA wants us to hit a B+ average on SmackDown for the next 4 months while ‘This Is Us’ airs on Tuesday nights on NBC. Failure to do this could cause a serious hit in our TV ratings.”

I would love the Other TV Shows feature to come back! I know it makes a ridiculous amount of work on modders, but it was great to know where you stacked ratings wise to other shows on the air the same night
