Episode 288
Panama Beach, Florida

Tony Schiavone: Welcome to a landmark night in the industry of sports entertainment, I have seen it and I still cannot believe it
Scott Hudson: Well... Well what's he gonna say, what does he want. Hes bought the company, what does Mr McMahon have to say to us.
Tony Schiavone: Needless to say as you overlook Panama City Beach, Florida. We are stunned, we are floored. We are going to be addressed by Mr McMahon here tonight on the very last telecast of WCW Monday Nitro on TNT. It has been the most emotional 4 or 5 days for all of us involved in world championship wrestling.
This is the Night of Champions. Tonight on our final telecast all 5 titles in World Championship Wrestling will be decided.
Hi everybody Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson are at our customary places at ringside bringing you WCW Nitro
Scott Hudson: Tony you have been following this sport longer than i have and i've been around for 30 years. Can you believe it Mr McMahon opening up Nitro. He’s going to address the troops in a simulcast, what is gonna happen, what does he have to say to us, what's next, what... what’s in store for us.
Tony Schiavone: He said it, the fate of WCW is in his hands, and we will be hearing from Mr McMahon on this, what has been a very surreal day for all of us here in World Championship Wrestling. A historic day in sports entertainment, and it goes down tonight on our very last telecast, Live.
Scott Hudson: Let's not lose sight of the fact this is the last Nitro on the Turner Networks and we are going out with a bang. All the titles on the line including a Unification match US vs World title, Scott Steiner and Booker T later
Tony Schiavone: That's still to come right here tonight from Panama City Beach. Did i mention this is spring breakout 2001. Listen out would you
Scott Hudson: That can mean only one thing
Tony Schiavone: Who mean more to WCW, Who does WCW mean more to than the man you watching take that long walk to the ring, it is the Nature Boy Ric Flair.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship
WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Booker T (c) defeated Scott Steiner (c) (with Midajah)

Vince McMahon Backstage, on the Phone
Mr McMahon: Now you just listen, you listen to me alright, you're the attorney.
No no no of all the locations they could chose ok, they chose their final broadcast to be some redneck, beer joint, diner, you know, where some place in the panhandle of florida. Now how appropriate is that.

The Filthy Animals (Rey Mysterio, Jr. and Billy Kidman) defeated 3 Count (Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore) and The Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi and Yun Yang)

Vince McMahon Backstage, on the Phone
Mr McMahon: Well he's not a bad tallent
*knock on the door*
Mr McMahon: Come in. but when you talk about talent you have to urh… urh… i'm gonna have to call you back here in just a minute.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Shane Helms (c) defeated Chavo Guerrero, Jr.

Booker T Backstage Promo
Booker T: You know i got a lot of mixed emotions going on through me right now. But now being the world heavyweight champion, the us champion all in the same night. Closing WCW i would like to say, this may be the end of a chapter but let me tell you that many, many more pages are left in this book. So let me tell you this, from this point i will prove i am the best this business has to offer and if anybody wanna test me, step to me like a man. But i tell you this, i will prove that i am the best to each and every sucker, and like i always say, like i say each and every time… don't hate the player, hate the game.

WCW World Tag Team Championship

The Natural Born Thrillers (Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo) (c) defeated Team Canada (Mike Awesome and Lance Storm)

Shawn Stasiak (with Stacy Keibler) defeated Bam Bam Bigelow

Regal and McMahon backstage
Commissioner Regal: What do you think, WrestleMania 17 Commissioner ordered shirt. It's wonderful, look on the back. This sunday on ppv WrestleMania 17
Mr McMahon: A very very nice shirt. I get it but urh you wanted to see me
Commissioner Regal: Oh yes, now i heard you were buying WCW, are you sure you want to do that. I mean I know quite a lot about that place. It's a bloody awful place and the nonsense that goes on there is unbelievable. I mean i don't want to second guess you but are you really sure, i mean it leaves rather a stench in the air.
Mr McMahon: Thank you very much, thank you Commissioner, i'm on the case though.
Commissioner Regal: I’m sure you are, I knew you would be but I urh
Mr McMahon: no no thank you

WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship
The Filthy Animals (Rey Mysterio, Jr. and Billy Kidman) defeated Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo (c)

Sting defeated Ric Flair

Then the Music Hits...

Out walks…

Out walks Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair to a crowd that goes wild, cutting the Mr McMahon promo short.
Hogan and Flair stay on the ramp as Bischoff makes his way to the ring with a microphone in hand.
Eric Bischoff: Hey Vince, I bet this wasn't part of the plan for tonight. I'm sure you had it all planned out. Simulcast the death of WCW live on WWF Television so that you can immortalise yourself in history. Well once again your egotistical ways have got in the way of a smart business decision. You seen, while you were holding off on signing the contract until WrestleMania, Time Warner were getting impatient and were looking to get a deal signed and WCW off their books for good. Everyone knows i put in an offer a few weeks ago but they couldn't match my demands. Now however with the help and backing of Friends, Foes and Business minds, a new Consortium have purchased World Championship Wrestling. While you was sat on your ass gloating over the position you had put WCW in, Myself along with Hogan, Flair and 6 others got together and discussed a full takeover of the WCW Brand. With you waiting to sign at WrestleMania, we had the chance to swoop in and sign the papers earlier this afternoon.
So thank you, thank you Vince, for the free advertising of WCW on the WWF product. Thank you Vince for making the heart of WCW beat once again. Thank you Vince for bringing the guys in the back together in a stand of solidarity.
You can bet WCW is here to stay. WCW may not be staying on TNT anymore, but the future of Nitro is stronger than ever. Just this afternoon i put the feelers out to any other networks interested. You will never believe who bit our arm off. That's right Vince, the long time WWF partner that you dropped in a heartbeat just last year. WCW is proud to announce the new home of WCW Nitro, starting in just 4 weeks on… The USA Network.
Now Production crew, cut the live feed to the WWF, we are taking back what's ours, we are taking back the Monday night Juggernaut.
See you all in 4 weeks!
***Bischoff leaves the ring and walks up the ramp, shaking the hands of Hogan and Flair before posing for the crowd and heading to the back.***

Chalk me up as pretty excited for this too, Togg. I like seeing so many WCW diaries on the board, makes me step up my own game to make sure that mine stands out amid all the rest!

I've only recently come back to the boards after some time away but damn - some of these diaries look cool as hell, particuarly yours.

I can't even begin to work out how you make all those sections line up, etc.

Default WCW Nitro - Episode 289

WCW Monday Night Nitro - Episode 289
Monday Week 1 May

Knoxville Civic Coliseum - Tennessee (3,791)

Announce Team

Waiting in the ring is the new C.E.O of WCW Eric Bischoff.
Eric Bischoff opens up the show by thanking the loyal fans of WCW and the Executives at the USA Network for its support and speedy action to bring WCW Nitro back to the air. Bischoff tells the watching public that its thanks to the McMahons poor business decisions that both the buyout and the Network deal was possible. Bischoff goes on to publicly address Vince by his first name, threatening to get WCW Back on course and putting Raw is War on its toes once again. He says that this time next year, WCW would once again be a threat, and for the WWF roster to keep a close eye on where the Grass is greener. The next point of topic was the future of WCW Nitro, The Locker Room and its Champions. Eric states that the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championships are now retired, until further notice as WCW plans to focus on the core of its product. With regards to the WCW Roster and its future, Mr Bischoff lays down the law and says that nobody should be complacent just because WCW is still around. He states that everyone from bottom to top will be scrutinised and evaluated with regards to their future in World Championship Wrestling.
In regards to the future of Nitro, Mr Bischoff states that the USA Network deal is a Multi-year deal and that the USA Network has promised to evaluate the future of Thunder and Worldwide in the near future. Mr Bischoff states that deals in both Mexico and Japan are in the works and he hopes to bring the WCW product to them soon.In a finishing statement, Mr Bischoff thanks the Consortium that made this possible and offers them a promise of his job, if he hasn't improved the company within 12 months.

Fit Finlay vs Jason Jett

In the first match of the night, on the first Nitro on the USA Network, Finlay carries a match with the younger Jett. With the Evaluation of the roster, everyone’s performance is being watched closely tonight. The match ends when Finlay rolls up Jett for the pinfall

Winner: Fit Finlay
Time: 7:43

Backstage Eric Bischoff is seen sat behind his desk in his office when there is a knock on the door. Ric Flair walks in and greets Mr Bischoff. Bischoff asks Flair to sit down and explains that after the restructuring of Management in WCW, Flair would no longer be WCW C.E.O, however his new title would be the President of World Championship Wrestling. Mr Bischoff then stands up, shakes the hand of Mr Flair and offers him his seat. Bischoff tells Flair that it's his job to run Nitro because he has a lot of work to do in WCW HQ, securing the future of WCW.

Backstage Lance Storm is seen taunting O’Haire, when Mike Awesome attacks him from behind. Storm and Awesome beat down O’Haire before Palumbo comes running to the rescue. Palumbo is however unlucky with the numbers as O’Haire is out and it's basically 2 on one. Officials eventually break up the fight, but not before both members or the Natural Born Thrillers are out on the floor.

We see Dusty and Dustin backstage watching the moment they made Jarrett and Flair kiss “Dusty's White Ass”. The pair repeatedly rewind and watch the footage, laughing more and more as the time goes by. In the background the camera catches Midajah peering through the door.

Hugh Morrus vs Shawn Stasiak

The Leader of the Locker Room and the Mecca are the next two to be under the scrutiny under the watchful eye of C.E.O Bischoff. Although a good match, Stasiak was the weaker performer in the bout. The match ends when the music of Bam Bam Bigelow hits, however he doesn't appear, but it's enough to allow for a distraction and Morrus to Win after a finisher.

Winner: Hugh Morrus
Time: 6:59

Backstage in the office of Ric Flair, the entire Magnificent 7 group are sat around the room as Ric Flair stand up and addresses them. Flair says that they must all start to watch each others backs and travel in pairs. With the attacker still unknown and on the loose, Mr Flair tells everyone they must be alert and he will do his best to get to the bottom of it. As soon as he stops talking, Road Warrior Animal speaks up and asks whether they should look a lot closer to home, suggesting an internal investigation. Flair assures everyone that he will do his best to find the culprit. The group then leave as you see Flair and Jarrett stay in the room whispering to each other.

Chavo Guerrero, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo vs Shane Helms and Filthy Animals

Now the defunct Cruiserweight Tag Titles are no longer in WCW, the former title holders team with the current Cruiserweight Champion, to take on the Previous holders of both titles. In a match where Guerrero, Kidman and Mysterio shone through. It was the Shooting Star Press that sealed the victory over Kid Romeo, in what was praised as a good, fast paced match.

Winner: Billy Kidman
Time: 13:13

Backstage Miller and M.I. Smooth address the camera in a promo about Kanyon. Both men talk about how Kanyon should just mind his own business and that Smooth can and has beaten him before and he can do it again, if Kanyon doesn't learn from his mistakes.

The newly appointed President of World Championship Wrestling makes his way to the stage. Flair informs the crowd that as his first action of business on this first ever USA Edition of Nitro, he was going to make the Main Event with a great stipulation. Flair then thanks Midajah for informing him of what she seen earlier in the night and then proceeded to announce that it would be Jeff Jarrett vs Dustin Rhodes tonight. If Dustin Wins, Flair will forever leave his father alone, if Jarrett wins, Flair gets Dusty Rhodes 1 on 1 at WCW Big Bang.

Kanyon vs Norman Smiley

In a great match that had the crowd heated up, these two men fought past the 10 minute barrier to a great finish with Kanyon hitting a devastating DDT to win. Backstage executive were said to be positive on both men after putting on a great match for the First USA Nitro

Winner: Kanyon
Time: 10:37

Backstage Stacy Keibler walks up to Bam Bam Bigelow, who is talking to Referee Mickie Jay and taps him on the shoulder. Stacy tell Bigelow that she had a message for him from Stasiak. Stacy then slaps him and tells him to keep his nose out of their business, reminding him that Stasiak beat him on the last edition of Nitro on TNT. Bigelow then grabs Stacy by the wrist as she wriggles to get out of his way, Bigelow then asks her to pass on a message to Stasiak, which she says “Yes, yes, anything, just let me go”. Bigelow tells her to pass on this message “Don’t send someone to do your business for you, if you have something to say, say it in the ring”. Bigelow then lets her go and tells her to keep an eye out for her Pretty boy, because he's not finished yet.

Air Raid vs Totally Buffed

In a match that showed off the excellent chemistry between both partners of both teams, it was Air Styles who had the greatest impact in the match. Styles also debut a new move in the match which was said to be a special moment for the viewers. However it was the sheer experience and brute muscle of Bagwell and Luger that picked up the victory, then Bagwell hit Styles with a devastating Neckbreaker.

Winner: Buff Bagwell
Time: 7:19

After the match, Gene Okerlund is stood at the top of the ramp to talk to Air Styles. Gene asks the pair if they think they had done enough tonight to stick around or if the loss would seal the fate of their futures in WCW. Air Paris tells Gene that they put their all into every match and that sometimes you just cant climb a mountain because it's just too high. Styles says that if they are on the chopping block, they would never give up without a fight and we would see them in WCW again.

Sting makes his way to the ring to a huge crowd reaction. Sting then gets in the ring and starts talking about how the future of WCW is now bright and that WCW is in his veins and he was never going to go anywhere else. Sting then praises Flair for their match on the last WCW Nitro on TNT. Sting says that when he had that match, he honestly thought it would be the last match ever in WCW History. He said he had no clue that Flair had been working on a takeover deal. Sting then moves onto his shot at Booker T for the WCW US Championship at Big Bang. He says that what he thought was his last match has now led to a great opportunity that he won't let slip by.
*** Music of Scott Steiner hits***

Steiner and Midajah make their way to the ring, interrupting Sting. Steiner says he was robbed of his WCW Championship, that Booker holding both titles was the kind of attitude he came to expect from an ego like Booker. Steiner says that at Big Bang, he would be taking home the World Championship. He followed it up by offering to help sting take the US title and send Booker home learning his lesson of greed. Sting turns down the offer but offers a challenge to Steiner for next week's Nitro. Sting says he will put his US title shot on the line. Steiner asks what the catch is, which Sting then informs him that, if Steiner loses, he wants In on the WCW World Title match. A hesitant Steiner agrees before trying to attack Sting from behind. However Sting turns around and a sly Steiner backs out of the ring, taunting Sting all the way up the ramp.

Jeff Jarrett vs Dustin Rhodes w/ Dusty Rhodes

Before the match starts, Ric Flair comes down to ringside to even the odds. Jarrett and Dustin have a verbal battle before locking up. By far the best match of the night, both men get the crowd heated up and engaged in the battle. Bot Flair and Dusty cause havoc outside the ring. Distracting the referee multiple times. Its however an incident where Dustin almost knocks Dusty off the apron, that leads to Jarrett being able to hit the Stroke and sealing the match of Dusty vs Flair at WCW Big Bang.

Winner: Jeff Jarrett
Time: 12:46

Show Rating

WWF = 25.52 vs WCW = 4.46

Only a 21 point difference between Nitro and Raw?....you’ll close that gap in no time

That was a good show for the new WCW now you’ve got your hand on the steering wheel after the so called “final” Nitro last week. A bonus point from me for not instantly splitting Air Raid to start mega pushing AJ Styles too. I like that you’re pretty much carrying on where WCW left off as opposed to completely rebooting, although the sooner the Magnificent Seven dies the better because wow was that bad.....

.....and Midajah....what a stooge.....there was me thinking she’d had enough of the Big Bad Booty Daddy, and just wanted to check out what a real man’s big white ass looks like, with Dusty Rhodes American Booty baby....but no, bloody women......side note, Midajah.....hot as hell

Keep up the good work, I’ll be reading (beautiful layout by the way)

Enjoying this so far Togg. Everything looks very crisp. Nice to see you continue the Magnificent Seven stable as well. Most folks (myself included) ignore that when rebooting (or, in your case, soft re-booting) WCW.

You say only 21... as if its a bad thing . Sadly TEW 2016 doesnt allow me to compare TNN/Spike vs USA Network ratings. Untill WCW fets coverage in other areas, we are sadly seeing low numbers. Im sure the American TV Rating was very close .

Its kind of inevitable that Air Raid splits... only an idiot would keep them together, however its a while away yet. Im trying to keep things as close to real as possible. A continuation of "What Was" . Anyone who remembers the last few months of WCW, should be able to pick it up pretty easy.
I hope to make the Magnificent 7 Storyline slightly more palatable while the "Attacker" storyline continues.

As you love Midajah so much... i'll be sure to showcase her as much as possible

Im all about the Visuals , it helps creativity flow (even though it takes some work) . I think its fair to call it a soft Reboot. Storylines get endings before the full hard restart gets into gear.

A place in the Wall of Fame to anyone who guesses the person, team or group who is behind the attacks

Beautiful layout and first show Togg...I love that you are going with the "soft reboot" as you said.

Hmm...I had one crazy theory that maybe you were controlling both the WWF and WCW based on the "first" show and it would be some WWF guys behind the attacks...but looking it over and noticing that first/last Nitro had no grades, I am assuming this is truly a separate company and not a sneaky brand split...

So...I will guess something different and say that middle aged and crazy SOB Terry Funk....

Just to clarify, the first "Show", the last Nitro on TNT was a full run down of how everything happened that night, with a twist to the end. It is the beginning of the story and not "Technically" the first show of the diary.
The WWF and WCW Booking was an idea i had, but it was too heavy for a first diary back after 6-7 years .
The Soft Reboot is only temporary . Anything is possible in the future .

Terry Funk? interesting
