OOC: So..yeah, I've decided to go back to the WCW Lives mod, officially abandoning my 97 WCW game for various reasons. I'm excited to return to WCW Lives. I very much enjoyed my last WCW Lives diary and I feel like I've got tons of ideas that I never got to do in that game, so this will be very different from the previous quest in terms of that, but hopefully just as fun to play and write.

The first show is The Big Bang pay per view and the card for that will be up soon!

Maybe the safe choice, but there's enough in Booker/Steiner feud over the belt to carry you through the first few months

Week 1, May, 2001
Live from Forbes Arena in Atlanta, Georgia
Attendance: 6000 (sellout!)

Quote:

As WCW’s return pay per view, The Big Bang, goes live on and the air, we do so with the new owner of World Championship Wrestling, Eric Bischoff, standing in the middle of the ring with a big smile on his face. Bischoff waits for the cheers from the crowd to die down a bit, and then he says that the rumors of WCW’s demise have been greatly exaggerated! Bischoff says that WCW is officially back in business and that a new era of professional wrestling starts tonight with WCW right in the middle of it. After some more cheers from the crowd, Bischoff says that it’s time to get down to business because he knows that everyone didn’t come here to listen to him go on and on, but there are a few things he needs to touch on. For one, all of the championships have been vacated as part of the company’s restart. Bischoff says that he wants to start things off with a clean slate, but everyone who held a title prior to tonight will get their chance to win the title back tonight—with one exception…Booker T. The crowd boos, but Bischoff explains that Booker T has not been cleared to compete yet by the medical staff, which is why he’s not getting the same opportunity as the other champions, but Bischoff promises that as soon as Booker T is cleared he’ll go right to the front of the line of contenders for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship! Bischoff then wraps things up by saying that he’s talked enough and now it’s time for some action, but he does add that everyone in this building tonight, and everyone watching at home, are all a part of history in the making because tonight is the beginning of WCW’s return to greatness! WCW Cruiserweight Championship

vs.vs.vs.w/

The Big Bang’s opening match is a fatal four way for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship as “Sugar” Shane Helms looks to reclaim the title, but Billy Kidman, Elix Skipper and Cash all have their sights set on the same goal. The action in this one is fast-paced and chaotic most of the time, with bodies flying everywhere as all four men put it all on the line. Helms comes close to regaining his title when he drops Cash with his Vertebreaker, but "Prime Time" Elix Skipper is there to break up the pin attempt just before the three count. Skipper sends Helms flying over the top rope and out of the ring, then tries to cover Cash himself, but Billy Kidman breaks it up this time. Kidman and Skipper go at it until Kidman catches Skipper coming off the ropes and driving him to the mat with a BK Bomb. As Cash rolls out of the ring as well, the ring is left to Elix Skipper, who is down on the mat, and Billy Kidman, who is climbing to the top rope. As Torrie Wilson cheers on at ringside, Kidman leaps off the turnbuckle and nails a picture perfect Shooting Star Press! Kidman covers and picks up the three count, the win and the Cruiserweight Championship as Shane Helms is a second too late in breaking up the pin!

Billy Kidman defeated Elix Skipper, Shane Helms and Cash at 8.09 by pinfall when Kidman pinned Skipper following a Shooting Star Press. Billy Kidman wins the WCW Cruiserweight Championship! (C)
Quote:

As Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson celebrate in the ring, Shane Helms is on his knees in disbelief over the fact that he was literally just a second too late in breaking up the pin and keeping his hopes of reclaiming the Cruiserweight Championship alive.

We then cut to a pre-recorded video of Ric Flair, Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell all giving their thoughts on the battle royal later tonight and their chances of winning it and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Ric Flair says that he can't think of anyone more fitting to be the first World Heavyweight Champion of the new era of WCW than "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell were recorded together, with Luger saying the other eighteen men in the match might as well give up right now because they are Totally Buffed and they'll be the last two men in the ring. Buff Bagwell adds that everyone can try to deny it all they want, but none of them can hold a candle to Totally Buffed and their jealousy over it is eating them alive! (C)

WCW United States Championship Tournament Semi Final

vs.

The long-standing rivalry between Lance Storm and Hugh Morrus is renewed here tonight as they square off with a spot in the US Title Tournament Final hanging in the balance. This is a solid back and forth match that sees Morrus take control early on, but Lance Storm uses his impressive technical skills to slowly take control of the match, forcing Morrus to the mat and keeping him there as much as possible. Morrus does mount a comeback, hitting a pair of high impact clotheslines in the corner, nearly crushing Storm in the process, and then he drives him into the mat with a powerslam. Morrus calls for his moonsault and starts climbing to the top, but Storm manages to roll out of the way and Morrus crashes and burns. Morrus is slow to get up and when he does, Storm takes him down again with a superkick. Storm then applies the Canadian Maple Leaf and although he tries to fight it, Morrus is left with no choice but to tap out.

Lance Storm defeated Hugh Morrus by submission at 8.36 with the Canadian Maple Leaf. Storm advances to the US Title Tournament Final (C+)

WCW United States Championship Tournament Semi Final

vs.

From one US Title Tournament Semi Final and straight to the other as Rey Misterio Jr. faces off against Fit Finlay with the winner moving on to the final to face Lance Storm for the WCW United States Championship. This is very much a matchup of contrasting styles as Rey Misterio Jr. looks to pick up the pace whenever possible, while the veteran Finlay looks to do the exact opposite. Finlay struggles early on in this one as Rey is simply too quick for the irish brawler, but when he finally does catch Rey the feel of the match changes as Finlay starts to wear Rey down with his physically intense and punishing style. It looks like it is only a matter of time before Finlay inflicts more damage than Rey can absorb, and Tony Schiavone even says that the end is "mercifully near" when Finlay looks to plant Rey with a Tombstone Piledriver. But Rey is able to squirm his way out of it and just like that the match changes again as Rey picks up the pace, hitting Finlay with dropkicks, headscissors, and a tornado DDT! Rey then hits his Springboard Hurricanrana and one...two...three!

Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Fit Finlay at 8.36 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. Rey advances to the US Title Tournament Final (C+)

WCW Tag Team Championships

vs.

With Bagwell and Luger stalling for all they are worth to begin this one, the announcers use the opportunity to talk about how Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo, much like Shane Helms earlier, are looking to reclaim the titles they held before Eric Bischoff decided to vacate all the titles in WCW. It is obvious that the young team of O'Haire and Palumbo are getting increasingly frustrated by the tactics of their veteran opponents, who continue to stall and take every shortcut they can find throughout this match. The situation finally explodes when Buff Bagwell pulls O'Haire down from the apron just before Palumbo makes it to the corner to tag him in, and Bagwell then laughs in O'Haire's face about, prompting O'Haire to chase him around the ring. As the referee loses focus on what's going on in the ring because of Bagwell and O'Haire's actions outside, Lex Luger uses the opportunity to fish a pair of brass knuckles out of his tights and he uses them to blast Chuck Palumbo! Luger then rolls Palumbo up, even hooking the tights for good measure, but the referee doesn't see it and he makes the three count while Buff Bagwell prevents O'Haire from getting back into the ring to break up the pin.

Totally Buffed defeated Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire at 10.27 by pinfall when Luger pinned Palumbo after using a pair of brass knuckles and then hooking the tights as well. Totally Buffed wins the WCW Tag Team Championships (C+)

Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell grab the tag team titles and quickly make their way back up the ramp as Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay are both outraged over how Totally Buffed just screwed O'Haire and Palumbo and stole the tag team titles! They disappear into the back while O'Haire and Palumbo are both furious in the ring, but things go from bad to worse for the former tag team champions when...

Chris Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow come through the crowd and slide into the ring behind them. Bigelow and Kanyon ambush O'Haire and Palumbo, finishing their attack off with Bigelow hitting the Greetings From Asbury Park on Chuck Palumbo, while Kanyon hits his "I'm better than you" reverse STO finisher on Sean O'Haire! Bigelow and Kanyon stand tall in the ring as Tony and Mike both wonder just what this attack is all about. (C)
Quote:

With confusion still reigning supreme, both over the way Totally Buffed stole the tag team titles and over the brutal attack on Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo by Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Kanyon after the match, Tony sends us to another round of pre-recorded interviews, this one featuring three of the top stars in WCW; "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash, "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and "The People's Champion" Diamond Dallas Page. Nash says that when it comes to battle royals it's real simple; the biggest dog in the fight wins. He says that nobody is going to be able to throw him over the top rope, and "Big Sexy" is walking out of here tonight with the WCW World Heavyweight Title. Scott Steiner says that he's "Big Poppa Pump", he's "The Genetic Freak" and he's the next World Heavyweight Champion, and he'll run straight through anyone who gets in his way! Finally, DDP says that he can't think of anything more fitting than to finish off the first pay per view of the new era of WCW with "The People's Champion" celebrating his newly won World Title with all of the WCW fans in attendance tonight! (A)

WCW United States Championship Tournament Final

vs.

Both men have already been in action once tonight but Mike Tenay points out that Lance Storm and Rey Misterio Jr. are both in phenomenal shape and he fully expects both men to have plenty left in the tank. Tony also points out that both men are scheduled to be a part of the main event battle royal for the World Title, meaning one of these men could walk out of here tonight as a double champion. This is a good match that sees Lance Storm attempt to do the same thing Finlay attempted to do earlier; keep Misterio grounded and prevent him from getting his high-paced, high-flying offense going. Mike Tenay calls Storm a great in-ring general who has come up with a great gameplan for neutralizing Rey's greatest advantage. Rey never stops fighting back, however, and it makes for a good back and forth affair that sees both men control the match for roughly the same amount of time. As Rey comes off the ropes, Storm attempts his roll through into the Canadian Maple Leaf, but Rey is able to reverse it and hit a hurricanrana that sends Storm through the ropes and out onto the floor! Rey doesn't allow start any time to recover, however, as he follows after him as soon as he is able, but Storm is ready and he drives Rey back first into the ring apron. Storm scoop slams Rey onto the floor and then quickly rolls him back into the ring for a cover, but Rey kicks out after two and a half. Frustrated, Storm argues the count with the referee, wanting a faster count, but the referee maintains that it was a two count only. Storm then lines up for a superkick, but Rey is able to duck it and roll Storm up, almost picking up the win as Storm just barely kicks out before the three count. Storm is quick to get to his feet but Rey is quicker, hitting an armdrag takedown, then a headscissor takedown, and then planting Storm with a sitout facebuster. Sensing the end could be near, everyone's on their feet as Rey sets up, and hits, his Springboard Tornado DDT, covering Storm for the three count and the huge win!

Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Lance Storm at 14.44 by pinfall with a Springboard Tornado DDT. Rey Misterio Jr. wins the WCW United States Championship (B-)

Quote:

As Rey celebrates his big win in the ring we cut to the announce table where Tony Schiavone informs us that the main event battle royal for the vacant WCW World Heavyweight Championship is coming up momentarily. Who will be the first World Champion of the new era of WCW? Mike Tenay says that being the first champion of the new era is not only a huge honor, but it will also set the stage for things to come, and you could really position yourself to be major player in WCW for years to come. Tony says that twenty men, chosen by Eric Bischoff, will battle it out in the ring. A competitor is eliminated if he is thrown over the top rope and onto the floor, and the last man standing in the ring will be the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Tony then sends us down to the ring for our main event of the evening. (B+)

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.vs.

The match hasn't even officially gotten underway before Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo make a beeline for Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell, looking to extract for revenge for what happened earlier tonight. Their revenge is short-lived, however, as their inexperience ends up costing them big time here as they are both so focused on Luger and Bagwell that they never see the Steiner Brothers coming up from behind and dumping both O'Haire and Palumbo out of the ring for a surprising early elimination as Tony notes that this really isn't O'Haire and Palumbo's night. It is chaos everywhere in the ring, and Tony is suddenly surprised to see Kevin Nash standing outside the ring. Tony asks if "Big Sexy" was eliminated, but Mike Tenay is there to inform him that Nash actually left the ring on his own and through the ropes, so he's not eliminated. Nash remains outside the ring, watching, as DDP tries to eliminate Rick Steiner, only to be clobbered from behind by Scott Steiner. The Steiner Brothers team up to beat DDP down, and this finally gets "Big Sexy" back into the ring as he comes to DDP's aid. "The Cat" Ernest Miller is the next one to be eliminated as he is sent flying over the top rope by Mike Awesome, and Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell work together to eliminate Hugh Morrus as well. The eliminations slow down for a bit as we hit a few minutes of near-eliminations and otherwise just wearing each other down. Luger and Bagwell noticeably continue working together, as do the Steiner Brothers and, to some extent, The Insiders as well. Ric Flair and Road Warrior Animal are going at it in one of the corners, with Flair lighting Animal up with some knife edge chops, and Lance Storm is trying to get some payback on Rey Misterio Jr. as he tries to get him over the top rope on the opposite side of the ring, but he can't quite get him over.

Mike Awesome gets his second elimination of the match as he clotheslines Shawn Stasiak over and out, but then Mike Awesome is eliminated himself as Mark Jindrak runs up behind him and dumps him over the top rope. Scott Steiner then eliminates Mark Jindrak and almost eliminates Dustin Rhodes as well, but Rhodes just barely manages to hang onto the ropes to save himself. The Franchise" Shane Douglas is dumped over the top rope by Kevin Nash, and Konnan is eliminated on the opposite side of the ring by Scott Steiner. Animal and Dustin Rhodes are both trying to eliminate each other, but both end up getting eliminated as Diamond Dallas Page surprises them and dumps them both out. With the action still going on everywhere, Tony notes that we are down to nine men; Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner, Rey Misterio Jr., Lance Storm, DDP, Rick Steiner, and Ric Flair.

Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger stand in one corner, The Steiner Brothers in another, and The Insiders in the third. Ric Flair, Lance Storm and Rey Misterio Jr. are all in the middle, without allies. The Insiders square off with The Steiner Brothers, while Luger and Bagwell target the smallest man in the ring; Rey Misterio Jr. This ends up backfiring on them, however, as Rey uses his quickness to his advantage and suddenly Buff Bagwell is sent over the top rope and out of the ring by Misterio. A furious Lex Luger then tries to eliminate Rey, but Rey manages to stay in it. Elsewhere in the ring, Lance Storm finds himself eliminated by "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash. Scott Steiner tries to eliminate Nash, but Nash is able to fight him off. However, DDP uses the opportunity to eliminate Rick Steiner and now it's down to the last six men. Scott Steiner, furious at the elimination of his brother, takes his frustrations out on "The Total Package" Lex Luger who, despite putting up a good fight, finds himself eliminated at the hands of "Big Poppa Pump". It's down to the final five and Ric Flair looks to make it the final four as he has Rey Misterio Jr. up on his shoulders, looking for the elimination, but just before Flair can dump Rey over, Rey reverses it into a headscissor and he sends The Nature Boy" Ric Flair over the rop rope and out of the match! Flair's eyes go wide and he is absolutely beside himself outside the ring!

Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, Diamond Dallas Page and the United States Champion Rey Misterio Jr. are the final four, and the announcers are full of admiration for Rey Misterio Jr. who has already competed in two matches prior to this one and who now finds himself in the final four with a shot at walking out of here as both the World Champion and the United States Champion. Sadly, it is not to be as Rey Misterio Jr.'s amazing run is brought to an end by "Big Poppa Pump" who hoists Rey up in a military press and tosses him out of the ring for the elimination. It's down to Scott Steiner and The Insiders, Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page, and Tony wonders if it was smart strategy for Steiner to eliminate Rey, leaving himself alone with The Insiders, but Steiner just continues the attack, taking the fight to both Page and Nash, hitting belly to belly suplexes on both men. Steiner continues his dominance and he never lets the numbers game become an issue because he successfully manages to eliminate Diamond Dallas Page before The Insiders could even think about teaming up against Steiner.

It's down to "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash and Steiner immediately tries to eliminate Nash as well, but Nash is able to save himself by connecting with a couple of well placed elbow shots to the jaw of Steiner. Nash drops Steiner with a sidewalk slam and both men are slow to get up, both exhausted from the grueling match. When they finally do get up they exchange some big time punches in the center of the ring until Steiner just charges at Nash and forces him back into the ropes. Steiner hooks the leg of Nash as he tries to dump him over and he almost does so, but Nash saves himself by sticking a finger into each of Steiner's eyes. With "FreakZilla" momentarily blinded, the ever-opportunistic Kevin Nash grabs Scott Steiner and dumps him over the top rope to end the match and pick up a HUGE win!

Kevin Nash defeated nineteen other men at 31.33 to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (B-)

"Big Sexy" Kevin Nash can barely stand on his feet as the bell rings and he is handed the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, but he has defeated nineteen other men to become the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion of the new era! Nash hoists the title in the air in one hand as he stands victorious...

WCW owner Eric Bischoff makes his way out from the back and he is smiling and applauding the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Bischoff grabs a mic, enters the ring and, with a smile on his face, he congratulates Nash on picking up a huge win here at The Big Bang. Bischoff pauses for a bit, but then he adds that, unfortunately, Nash's celebrations might be a tad bit...premature. A confused Nask asks what the hell is going on, and Bischoff explains that while Nash did indeed win the battle royal, and the World Heavyweight Championship, there is one more person he must face tonight before he can celebrate. And that person....as Bischoff stalls, that very person slides into the ring behind Nash, who doesn't see him. When Nash does sense a presence in the ring behind him, he turns around only to walk right into....

A GUITAR SHOT BY "THE CHOSEN ONE" JEFF JARRETT!!!!

The crowd boo loudly as Jarrett covers Nash and Eric Bischoff drops to the mat to make a fast three count! Bischoff then demands that the bell ring again and as it does, Bischoff hands the World Heavyweight Championship to Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett raises the title high in the air and with a shot of Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff standing tall in the ring, WCW's comeback show, The Big Bang pay per view event, comes to an end. (B)

Some pretty surprising champions coming out of Big Bang, this is definitely some routes that nobody has ever pursued before! I look forward to seeing how you do with these choices, especially Totally Buff with the Tag gold.

Great to see you back and posting again but very sad to see your 1997 version go. I did really enjoy your prior Quest for Lost Glory, so I'm excited to see what you do here. Hopefully Sting gets just as big a role.

Unfortunately I missed out on the first prediction but I'll be here from now on. And one last thing to say...

UGH, JARRETT!

A few things. First of all I want to thank everyone who predicted and commented on The Big Bang and the return of the Quest in general. I'm happy to have you all on board and I appreciate the support.

Secondly, I have decided to let the first prediction contest run through The Great American Bash, which is the next PPV, so the winner will be announced then and prizes will be handed out then as well. Just so everyone knows I gave a point for each correct name in the final four, and the person with the most eliminations in the battle royal was Scott Steiner.

Thirdly, I have decided to run predictions for each Nitro as well. I wasn't quite sure whether I would do that or just do pay per views, but for now I'll do it for Nitro as well. The first Nitro won't have predictions, however, as it is going up shortly after this post, but after that.

And that's about it. Nitro is coming up in a bit.

Week 2, May, 2001
Live from Forum Civic Center in Rome, Georgia
Attendance: 3.116 (sellout)

Quote:

Monday Nitro kicks off with the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett, coming down to the ring alongside WCW owner, Eric Bischoff, and the new WCW Tag Team Champions, Totally Buffed. All of them head to the ring with smiles on their faces, and once inside the ring Eric Bischoff introduces the NEW World Champion and hands the mic to Double J. Jarrett says that WCW is heading into a new golden age with himself as the champion and Eric Bischoff at the helm. He says that they are going to do right by WCW, and that they are going to rebuild the company back into the powerhouse it was just a few short years ago. And if someone doesn't like that? Well, tough! Because there's nothing they can do about it, so choke on that, slapnuts! Eric Bischoff takes the mic and says that the three people in the ring right now are his Chosen Ones, and as people can plainly see, they are already covered in gold, proving that they are the present and future of WCW and professional wrestling! Luger and Bagwell both pose with their tag team titles, Jeff Jarrett hoists the WCW World Heavyweight Championship high above his head, and Eric Bischoff looks on like a proud father with a huge grin on his face. That grin quickly fades, however, as a loud wolf howl is heard and the Wolfpac music starts playing throughout the arena... (B)

"Big Sexy" Kevin Nash walks out from the back and the announcers, Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay, are quick to note that Nash won the battle royal last night, but was then screwed by Jarrett and Bischoff, and that Nash should be the champion right now instead of Jarrett. Nash remains at the top of the ramp and says that Jarrett talks a good game when he's got backup, but the fact is that he wasn't even man enough to enter the battle royal last night, just like he wasn't man enough to face Nash face to face but had to attack him from behind. Nash says he wants a shot at that belt (pointing at Jarrett) and he wants it tonight! The crowd cheers, clearly liking that idea, but Bischoff says that Nash is in no position to make demands, and since he's already got a match tonight, a World Title match is out of the question. Bischoff then books Nash to face one half of the WCW Tag Team Champions, Buff Bagwell, later tonight in the main event. Jeff Jarrett gets back on the mic and reminds Nash that he's outnumbered, outgunned, and outmatched, so he might as well give up because he's the past while The Chosen Ones are the present and the future! (B)

Following that huge opening segment we head to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is standing by with Chavo Guerrero Jr., who is complaining about not being part of the Cruiserweight Championship title match last night. Chavo says that he is the best and most deserving person in the entire Cruiserweight division and yet he's not even in that match? Chavo says that he's not just gonna stand by and allow such an injustice to stand! Gene asks him what he means by that, but Chavo simply says that Gene will have to wait and see just like everyone else. But he can rest assumed that Chavo WILL right this injustice. (D)

The first match of the new era of WCW Monday Nitro is a cruiserweight match pitting the former Cruiserweight Champion "Sugar" Shane Helms against Kid Romeo. It is a decent enough match that largely sees Helms dominate, with only a few sporadic offensive moves from Kid Romeo. The outcome of this one is never really in doubt and Helms picks up the three count after hitting the Vertebreaker from a strong victory.

Shane Helms defeated Kid Romeo at 3.41 by pinfall with a Vertebreaker (C-)

Following the match we cut to footage that was recorded earlier today showing "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair arriving at the building in what can only be described as a foul mood. As the footage ends with Flair entering the building, Tony and Mike are left to speculate just what has "The Nature Boy" in such a bad mood here tonight. (C+)

Tag team action is up next as the young team of Air Raid takes on two guys who made quite the statement last night at The Big Bang, Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Kanyon. This is another decent match that sees the heel team of Bigelow and Kanyon dominate, but Styles and Paris show off their never say die attitude as they keep fighting back. It doesn't matter much in the end, however, as Kanyon hits his Kanyon Kutter on Air Paris to pick up the win.

Chris Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Air Raid at 5.05 by pinfall when Kanyon pinned Paris following a Kanyon Kutter (C)

Having picked up the win, Chris Kanyon calls for a mic as apparently he has something to say here. He never gets to speak his mind, however, as...

The two men who had a very bad night last night at The Big Bang, Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo, come charging down the ramp and into the ring! Bigelow and Kanyon bail out and disappear back up the ramp, however, apparently wanting no part of a confrontation with O'Haire and Palumbo, who are calling for Kanyon and Bigelow to get back in the ring, but neither they nor the fans get what they want here as Kanyon and Bigelow disappear into the backstage area. (C-)

In the back, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair is seen entering Eric Bischoff's office where he finds Bischoff along with The Chosen Ones. Flair is still in a sour mood and he tells Bischoff to book him in a match against Rey Misterio Jr. tonight because he's got a score to settle with that punk after last night. Bischoff grins and informs Flair that he doesn't get to make demands of him, and that he should consider himself lucky to even still have a job in WCW, all things considered. Jarrett gets in Flair's face and tells him to take him "unimportant business" elsewhere because they can't be bothered with a slapnut like him. Luger and Bagwell both laugh it up, and after a moment of staring Jarrett down, a furious Flair walks off, now even more outraged than he already was, and The Chosen Ones are heard laughing as we cut back to ringside for our next match. (C+)

Back in the ring, Diamond Dallas Page faces a newcomer in Chris Harris and the match is nothing but a complete squash as DDP easily dominates the newcomer and puts him away with the Diamond Cutter without barely breaking a sweat.

Diamond Dallas Page defeated Chris Harris at 2.30 by pinfall with a Diamond Cutter (C-)

DDP doesn't get a chance to celebrate his win, however, as Mike Awesome suddenly hits the ring and attacks Page! Awesome beats Page down and then finishes his quick-but-brutal attack by driving DDP into the mat with a vicious Awesome Bomb! His damage done, Mike Awesome leaves the ring as Tony, Mike and everyone else are left wondering just what the purpose of this brutal attack by Mike Awesome was? (B-)
Quote:

Lance Storm comes down to the ring and, to no one's great surprise, he wants to be serious for a minute. Storm says that Rey Misterio Jr. got lucky when he beat him last night, and that if Rey is any kind of champion, or any kind of man, he'll come out here and grant him a rematch for the United States Championship right now! Storm waits in the ring as a few moments pass, but it's not Rey Misterio Jr. who joins Storm, but rather...

Dustin Rhodes! Rhodes enters the ring, gets a mic of his own, and says that Storm got his chance last night, which is a lot more than he and a lot of other people did, and that it is now time for someone else to get a shot--someone like him! Storm and Rhodes come face to face, but then another music hits as...

"The Franchise" Shane Douglas makes his way out from the back and he joins them in the ring. Douglas says that Dustin Rhodes is right about one thing and that is that it is time for someone else to get a shot at the US Title, but if anyone deserves an opportunity like that, it's not Dustin Rhodes...it's "The Franchise" Shane Douglas! All three men come face to face now and the three way tension continues until...

The owner of WCW, Eric Bischoff, comes out from the back. Bischoff reminds them that this is his company and he decides who gets opportunities and who doesn't. Bischoff says that so far they haven't convinced him that either one of them are deserving of a shot at the United States Championship, but he'll provide them with an opportunity to change his mind. Bischoff then informs all three men that he's booking them in a match at the Great American Bash, and if the winner manages to impress him then maybe--just maybe--he'll consider giving them a shot at the US Title. (C)

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

w/vs.

Less than twenty-four hours after winning the Cruiserweight Championship last night at The Big Bang, Billy Kidman makes his first title defense tonight on Nitro against Shannon Moore. Mike Tenay notes early on that Shannon Moore is no pushover and his words prove to be true as Moore puts up a spirited fight against the champion, picking up a couple of near-falls during the match. In the end, however, the champion proves to be too much for Moore, who falls victim to the Shooting Star Press as Kidman makes his first successful title defense.

Billy Kidman defeated Shannon Moore at 6.43 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press. Kidman retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship (C)

After the match, Chavo Guerrero Jr. appears at the top of the entrance ramp and he does not look impressed at all. Chavo grabs a mic and says that if Kidman has that much trouble against an AVERAGE cruiserweight, how could he possibly stand a chance against him? Chavo says that the only reason he hasn't received a title shot is because there is a conspiracy against him, but he's not going to let them keep him down! Kidman looks a bit confused in the ring as Chavo disappears into the back again, but not before claiming that you can't keep a Guerrero down! (D+)

We proceed to tag team action as The Jung Dragons face off against Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak. As the announcers talk about our main event coming up later tonight between "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash and Buff Bagwell, all the while the action is pretty even in the ring. This is another decent match on a night that has been full of them so far, but in the end it is the former Natural Born Thrillers members who pick up the win as Mark Jindrak pins Yang after hitting the Mark of Perfection.

Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak defeated The Jung Dragons at 6.36 by pinfall when Jindrak pinned Yang following a Mark of Perfection (C-)

Eric Bischoff is in his office, flanked by the WCW World Heavyweight Champion "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett and one half of the WCW Tag Team Champions "The Total Package" Lex Luger, while Buff Bagwell is off preparing for his match later tonight. "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner walks in, and Bischoff offers Steiner a spot in The Chosen Ones, saying that he and his brother Rick are just the kind of people they want in their group, but Scott says that they can shove their little group up their asses because he's sure as hell not gonna play second fiddle to anyone--especially not Jeff Jarrett! Steiner says he wants a title shot and a chance to win back his World Title, but Bischoff advices Scott to at least think about their offer and maybe talk it over with his brother. But Scott says that he doesn't need to think about their offer because they only got one thing that he wants and doesn't need their help to take it! Scott glares at Jeff Jarrett, then turns and walks away as we head back to the ring where the WCW United States Championship is about to be defended. (B)

WCW United States Championship

vs.

Rey Misterio Jr. had a huge night last night, winning the United States Championship and making it to the final four in the battle royal for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, but he's got another challenge on his hands tonight as he takes on Mike Sanders. Rey starts the match off hot, looking to continue riding his huge wave of momentum, but Sanders is able to slow the pace of the match and take control. Despite Sanders' best efforts, he can't keep Misterio grounded forever and Rey mounts a spirited comeback, eventually hitting the Springboard Hurricanrana to pick up the pinfall victory and successfully retain the US Title.

Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Mike Sanders at 9.52 by pinfall with a Springboard Hurricanrana. Misterio retains the WCW United States Championship (C+)

As Rey celebrates his big win he is surprised to see "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair make his way to the ring. Flair gets on the mic and says that Rey ruined everything for him last night when he eliminated him from the battle royal, which means that he has made himself a target for "The Nature Boy", which is not something you want to be! Rey replies that if Flair is looking for a shot at the US Title, he'll give him one. He says he'll face anyone at any time because that's the kind of champion he wants to be. Flair accepts the offer...but then blindsides Rey with a kick between the legs! Flair then promptly locks in the Figure Four and keeps it applied until a group of referees finally force him to break it! Flair's face is turning red as he screams at Rey, and Tony and Mike both agree that Flair is absolutely out of control here! (B-)
Quote:

It is almost main event time but first we head backstage to "Mean" Gene Okerlund who is standing by with "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash, who is set to take on Buff Bagwell in a few short moments. Gene asks Nash about everything that happened last night at The Big Bang and about the formation of The Chosen Ones earlier tonight. Nash just shrugs and says that they can call themselves whatever they want, the fact is that none of them are even half the man that "Big Sexy" is, and he'll go through all of them to get to the World Title if he has to. Gene asks Nash about his match against Buff Bagwell tonight, and Nash says that as far as he's concerned, Buff is just a minor bump in the road to Jarrett and the World Title. Nash then heads for the entrance area and Gene sends us back to Tony and Mike at the announce desk. (C+)

vs.w/

Buff Bagwell is in no hurry to face off with "Big Sexy" here as he stalls right out of the gate. When they finally do lock up, "Buff Daddy" finds himself overpowered by the bigger, stronger Nash, who backs him into the corner and goes on the attack with knee and elbow strikes. As Nash lines up a final big elbow, "The Total Package" Lex Luger saves his tag team partner by pulling Bagwell out of the ring. The referee admonishes Luger, but he doesn't seem to be too concerned. He should be concerned about Kevin Nash, however, who leaves the ring and nails Luger with a big right hand! Unfortunately for Nash, Buff Bagwell uses this opportunity to attack Nash from behind. Buff gets Nash back in the ring where he continues his attack with a few punches and kicks and then a neckbreaker. Buff covers but only gets a two count. That's as close as Bagwell gets as Nash fights his way back into the match with some right hands of his own, a big boot, and a sidewalk slam. Nash then sets up for the Jackknife Powerbomb, but before he can hit it "The Total Package" Lex Luger attacks him from behind, causing the disqualification.

Kevin Nash defeated Buff Bagwell at 9.01 by disqualification when Lex Luger got involved (B)

The match is over but the attack continues as Bagwell and Luger beat Nash down while the World Champion, Jeff Jarrett, makes his way to the ring with guitar in hand. Jarrett calls for the Tag Team Champions to get Nash up on his feet, and Luger and Bagwell hold Nash by his arms while Jarrett smashes the guitar over the head of "Big Sexy" for the second time in as many nights! Nash is down in the ring and The Chosen Ones stand tall in the ring as Nitro comes to an end! (B-)
