PWG: 2016 BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES - STAGE 1
live from Reseda, California on August 26th, 2016

2016 BOLA FIRST ROUND MATCH
JEFF COBB DEF. MARTY SCURLL

The 2016 Battle of Los Angeles if officially underway as "The Villain" Marty Scurll took on relative Guerrilla newcomer Jeff Cobb. Scurll looked a bit concerned at the beginning of the bout due to the sheer size and strength advantage held by Cobb, but Scurll had the speed advantage from the word 'go'. Even with a few broken fingers, Cobb pushed through the pain and put Scurll down for the three with the Tour of the Islands in 13:28 to advance to the next stage of BOLA.

2016 BOLA FIRST ROUND MATCH
CHRIS HERO DEF. PETE DUNNE

Chris Hero ain't nothing to f~ck with but Pete Dunne wanted to test that sentence out for himself. Dunne came out as intense as can be against the former PWG World Champion and nearly had the match won on a few different occasions. Hero, using his superior wrestling knowledge, managed to outwrestle the Brit with a British Catch-as-Catch-Can flurry of moves and eventually knocked out the PROGRESS Wrestling regular with a Rolling Elbow at 13:03. Chris Hero is here to prove that he is still on top of the Guerrilla mountain and he is now one step closer to winning the 2016 Battle of Los Angeles.

2016 BOLA FIRST ROUND MATCH
MARK HASKINS DEF. DALTON CASTLE

With The Boys by his side, Dalton Castle was a star as soon as he stepped out of the black curtain in the American Legion Hall. While Castle was full of flamboyancy, Mark Haskins rushed to the ring and was ready for a fight. Haskins did indeed fight from the opening bell, absolutely shredding Dalton's chest with chops and kicks, but "The Party Peacock" managed to fight back on a few opportunities as he displayed his freak strength advantage. In the end, however, Mark Haskins managed to secure his spot in the next round of BOLA with the Cradle to the Grave at 16:11.

2016 BOLA FIRST ROUND MATCH
CODY RHODES DEF. MARK ANDREWS

In his first Pro Wrestling Guerrilla match, Cody Rhodes proved that he is ready to light the professional world on fire after leaving the WWE. Mark Andrews, an ultimate underdog, proved a good foil to introduce Cody to the Guerrilla style as the two traded offence for the entire bout. Both men took to the air but Andrews had the clear advantage in the sky. In impressive fashion, Cody Rhodes nearly stole the show with a Cross Rhodes from the top rope to secure the win at 13:33!

2016 BOLA FIRST ROUND MATCH
BOBBY FISH DEF. ANDREW EVERETT

"The Big Dawg" Andrew Everett was ready for his big break as he had the tough challenge of Bobby Fish ahead of him. Fish, the current ROH Television Champion, used his technical superiority to ground the flashy Everett. With Everett unable to take to the skies for much of the match, his momentum was cut short as Fish dismantled him from post to post with authority. Fish eventually put away Everett much to the dismay of the Reseda faithful at 16:49 to advance in the 2016 Battle of Los Angeles.

2016 BOLA FIRST ROUND MATCH
RICOCHET DEF. EL HIJO DEL FANTASMA

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Ricochet versus El Hijo del Fantasma! Both of these fast-paced high-flying competitors brought the fight to one another as soon as the bell rung. El Hijo del Fantasma, one of Mexico's best, nearly had the match won on a few different occasions but Ricochet somehow managed to keep kicking out! The Guerrilla gang at ringside were always on the move as both Fantasma and Ricochet dove full force out of the ring - with Fantasma getting the upper hand with the Thrill of the Kill tope suicida that pushed Ricochet back onto the stage as Excalibur screamed at the awesomeness from the commentary booth. The match eventually returned to the ring but Ricochet's PWG experience gave him the edge when he put Fantasma away at 16:59 with the Benadryller followed up with a stomach-crushing 630!

KOTA IBUSHI & BEST FRIENDS DEF. MOUNT RUSHMORE 2.0

In the only non-tournament action for the night, "The Golden☆Star" Kota Ibushi was absolutely loved by the Reseda faithful as he teamed with the Best Friends to face the trio of Adam Cole and, PWG World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks. As one could expect, the action went all over the Legion Hall with Adam Cole getting the heat by cutting off a Kota Ibushi moonsault to the outside. The feud between the Best Friends and The Young Bucks looks to be far from over as Chuck Taylor and Trent? put aside their differences from last month to dispatch both Matt and Nick Jackson. While both teams stole the show with their flashy move-sets, it was Kota Ibushi who put the exclamation point on this six-man tag when he got the coveted one-two-three on Adam Cole after the Phoenix Splash at 21:25!

Have to say I have a sweet spot in my heart for BOLA 2016. I like your booking thus far and we will have to see how Night 2 turns out before making any major predictions. A PWG diary could be a bit difficult, so hopefully you find ways to keep it interesting for yourself. The presentation you have so far is outstanding. Do you plan on taking things to a different level with PWG? Or do you forsee yourself attempting to keep things as PWG as possible and never move out of Reseda, CA, because the roster is there to do whatever the hell you want as far as I see.

I love the way PWG has remained rooted in Reseda with the whole "super-indy" vibe. I don't see myself moving away from that but you can never say never. My main goal right now is pushing different people while keeping things interesting for both myself and the readers.
