Default WWF '94: New Stars Rising

INTRODUCTION

It's July of 1994 and the World Wrestling Federation has begun a transition with a 'New Generation.' Wrestling superstars had already begun defecting to World Championship Wrestling with the likes of Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and many other big names recruited as Eric Bischoff's declaration of war on the WWF had begun.

WWF President Vince McMahon would turn the page on the Golden Age and big decisions would have to be made as the company would need to filter through the transitioning roster to find the best superstars to lead the company in this new era before WCW capitalizes on name recognition and leaves the once-dominant WWF in its wake.

As we begin, Bret "Hitman" Hart sits atop the the Federation's figurehead and beloved fan-favorite. Bret reigns as World Heavyweight Champion though his own flesh and blood, Owen Hart, looks to capitalize on his momentum and prove once and for all, that he's the true King of Harts. Though his days in the ring are over 'The Million Dollar Man' Ted Dibiase continues impact the World Wrestling Federation, using the almighty dollar to expand his influence and grow his Million Dollar Corporation. DiBiase seeks total domination of the WWF and has his sights set on his biggest acquisitions yet, American patriot Lex Luger and the phenom from Death Valley, The Undertaker whom he already claims he has in his back pocket. Cocky and brash are two words to most-accurately describe 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels and his monstrous bodyguard, Intercontinental Champion Diesel, who continue to climb the ladder to the top of the World Wrestling Federation. One man continues to stand in their way, as their thirst for gold may only be rivaled by that of 'The Bad Guy' Razor Ramon.

As the old guard disappears and new talent ascends the ranks, the opportunity is there for new stars to emerge and claim wrestling immortality as the leaders of The New Generation. Stay tuned to witness who rises to the top in this new era for the World Wrestling Federation!

BEHIND THE SCENES

The New Generation era of the World Wrestling Federation is widely classified as somewhat of a black mark on the WWF as the company would shoot itself in the foot with poor booking decisions, comically embarrassing gimmicks, and turning a shoulder to backstage turmoil that was beginning to boil over. Despite all of that, this era was the reason that I became a wrestling fan as a young boy, and because of it, I hold all of this nonsense near and dear to my heart!

My motivation for creating this dynasty is to recapture some of that magic. For the most part, I'll be sticking to the real-life evolving roster of the WWF, but I'll be looking for ways to better utilize the talent available. I'll also be focusing my attention on some feuds I wish the WWF would have given a chance and I'll also look to correct some of the questionable booking decisions as well as try to avoid at least some of the 'big top circus' elements that plagued the promotion during this time.

This is my first time logging all of this for public consumption but I'm excited to have a place to share my ideas.

I hope you enjoy it!

I will definitely be following. I've always had a soft spot for this era for some reason.

One question though: Randy Savage is a colour commentator, even though he wants to wrestle, right?

Thanks for chiming in!

There's definitely a conflict in vision between Vince McMahon and the Macho Man. We'll have to see how it plays out!

Thank you all!

I’m still working on some graphic templates which is taking me a bit longer than expected. I’m kind of a perfectionist in that regard.

Expect the first Monday Night RAW preview tomorrow!

“Welcome everyone to Monday Night RAW! Vince McMahon here with the ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage! We’ve got a great show for you tonight as we’ll see 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett square off with Virgil. Men on a Mission will be in action as well as 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels who will take on the 1-2-3 Kid!”

“Ooooh yeah, Vince McMahon the place is electric and tonight we’re going to see the 1-2-3 Kid do what he does best and kick that cocky smirk right off the Heartbreak Kid’s face!”

The music of Owen Hart hits. Vince climbs in the ring for an interview as Owen makes his way down to the ring. He taunts his brother, and hypes himself as the true ‘King of Harts’. The crowd jeers loudly throughout.

“Bret, at the King of the Ring, I proved once again that anything you can do, I can do! I’ve already proven to you that I can beat you one-on-one in the ring, and I’m going to do it again at SummerSlam! I’m the King of the Hart Family, Bret! I know it! Our family knows it! And most importantly, deep down in your gut, YOU know it!”

SEGMENT RATING: 72 B-

As we return from commercial, Virgil gets loose in the ring as ‘Double J’ Jeff Jarrett’s country waltz hits. Jarrett taunts the crowd with his Nashville twang as he struts his way down to the ring.

“That’s right! You’re looking at the greatest star in the WWF!”

The two circle each other in the ring and as Virgil approaches with his fist cocked, Jarret ducks out of the ring rope and begs off, much to the dismay of the crowd. As Virgil complains to the referee, Jarrett throws a cheap shot and we’re under way!

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Jeff Jarrett defeated Virgil in 6:56 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock.

Comments: Jarrett took control with the cheap shot early, but Virgil powered back. Ultimately, a thumb to the eye would help Jarrett gain the upper hand before eventually locking Virgil in the Figure Four. Virgil and Jarrett had great chemistry but it's clear, perhaps obviously so at this point in his career, that the crowd isn't invested in Virgil.

MATCH RATING: 62 C

As Jarrett celebrates in the ring, we see Vince McMahon and “Macho Man” sitting behind the announce booth again. They conduct a phone interview with Razor Ramon.

“Vince, mang, I want everyone to know that ‘The Bad Guy’ never forgets. I’ve got the gold around my neck, but I want the gold back around my waist. ‘Big Daddy Cool’, chico, I’m coming to take back what I deserve, and you, and your little boy toy, won’t be able to stop me.”

SEGMENT RATING: 76 B-

We return from the commercial as the “Doctor of Desire” Tom Prichard and the “Gigolo” Jimmy Del Ray, The Heavenly Bodies, wait in the ring as hip hop beats ring through the crowd.

“Now throw your hands in the air! And wave ‘em like you just don’t care!”

Oscar leads Mabel and Mo who dance down to ringside much to the delight of the crowd.

“Oh yeah, we’re having a lot of fun here tonight!” Says Vince.

Jimmy Del Ray and Mo lock up to start this one.

MATCH RATING: 53 C-

In a terrible match, Men on a Mission defeated The Heavenly Bodies in 7:56 when Mabel defeated Jimmy Del Ray by pinfall.

Comments: Mabel was off his game in this one though he still dominated and earned the win with a big splash. The Heavenly Bodies' timing looked off leading to a very underwhelming performance by both teams.

We cut to the ring where Vince McMahon stands with a microphone.

“Ladies and gentleman, Lex Luger!”

Lex’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring to something of a mixed reaction from the crowd, high fiving fans in the aisle as he enters.
Vince begins to inquire about Lex Luger’s relationship with ‘The Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase.

“I’m a good man. I’m an honest man, and I’m a man of honor. I’m going to continue to represent these hard-working people and this great country because that’s who I am!”

Luger seems to have turned the somewhat hostile crowd back in his favor with his passionate speech.

“I know Lex Luger and Lex Luger is a good man! Dig it!” insists the Macho Man.

SEGMENT RATING: 69 C+

We return from another ICOPRO commercial. “One! Two! Three!” The 1-2-3 Kid’s music hits and he jogs down to ringside, high fiving the fans in the aisle. He leaps over the top rope as he loosens up in the ring.

“Oh! Oh! Shaaaawn!” ‘The Heartbreak Kids’ music hits and he makes his way through the curtain with his monstrous, near 7-foot tall bodyguard Diesel behind him, Intercontinental Title slung over his shoulder. Michaels struts down to the ring before he flexes, getting the attention of the ladies in the crowd before slowly removing his flashy entrance attire.

The two circle each other in the ring. The 1-2-3 Kid leaps forward with a quick martial arts kick but Michaels drops to the mat and slides out of the ring. “Come on ref!”

‘The Hearbreak Kid’ gets encouragement from Diesel who points a finger in the Kid’s direction with a menacing look and Michaels rolls back into the ring. The two superstars lock up.

In a good match, Shawn Michaels defeated 1-2-3 Kid in 15:52 by pinfall with a Sweet Chin Music following interference from Diesel.

Comments: Shawn Michaels and the 1-2-3 Kid put on a show with a back-and-forth, athletic contest between two of the World Wrestling Federation's top in-ring performers. It appeared the 1-2-3 Kid may be able to pull out another upset but Diesel clocked the kid with the referee's back turned opening a window for Michaels to secure the victory after a superkick.

MATCH RATING: 77 B

Shawn Michaels celebrates his victory as Diesel steps over the top rope. The 1-2-3 Kid is pulling himself up in the corner as Diesel bum rushes him and nails him with a leg in the midsection.

“Oh come on now! The match is over!” says Vince McMahon.

Diesel tosses the Kid to the ropes then sends him flying back across the ring with a big boot. Michaels taunts the 1-2-3 Kid as Diesel pulls him back up from his feet and sets him up for a Jackknife Powerbomb. He nails it! He pulls The Kid back to his feet and nails him with a second Jackknife Powerbomb!

The ‘Macho Man’ fumes, “What a cheap shot, McMahon! Somebody has to do something about this!”

Diesel picks up the Kid again and he sets him up for another as WWF officials run down to ringside, the Kid crumples to the mat as Diesel nudges his seemingly lifeless body with his foot. Diesel finds a camera as he and Michaels exit.

“That’s what a real ‘Bad Guy’ looks like! If you want me, come get me!”

SEGMENT RATING: 81 B

Very solid Raw ZigZag. Echoing everyone else so far, this setup is great.

Intrigued if you pull the trigger on a Macho/Michaels feud, before he possibly jets for WCW.
