I think it was Finlay Hair for Genesis 3 on the bottom image.
On the top one it may have been Adam Hair or more likely Wildmane Hair

Trying constructive criticism here - Which at one level I hate to do because I worry that it sometimes feels like just plain negative criticism but I hope you understand it's meant well.

You might want to play around with the lighting and shaders a little to try to avoid that slightly washed out look. That tends to come from having lights set a little too brightly/directly and takes away the details on the skin. If you can nail those settings I think it will make a huge difference.

IRAY seems to be a bit more difficult in that way - the 3d delight settings in the render thread are great but they give that slightly more cartoony look. IRAY has that more photo realistic look but it's a bit more unforgiving with things like lighting. If the lights are too bright then you lose all the details in the skin that make IRAY so good. The girl with the blue hair is a good example - she has both facial and body language going on but the lighting is so harsh that it's sucking away all skin colouration and detail and you cant see things like the curves of her chest or the finger detail at all and that's a real shame. She's left as a bit of a ghostly white figure but I think with some lighting or shader tweaks she could really pop.

I like the one you did with the girl with greyish singlet style top, brownish hair and an open mouth where there's are some shadows on her face and you can see the rise between her mouth area and the cheeks because the lighting is working better there which makes her feel more realistic.

I don't mind at all. And I'd agree the lighting has caused me some concern as I'm not entirely happy with the settings ihave but you should have seen the first one a ran totally whited out lol.

As these are for nothing more than me learning how Daz works I'm not too worried in the ones so far but I do want to find time to tweak the lighting to improve the image.

I downloaded those tew presets but not sure if they are for a older version as can't get 4.9 to pick them up.

Unfortunately my pc just crashed as I went to render something completely different face wise which is a shame. I'll try something else on the lighting next time.

Appreciate the comments

With the TEW settings it's like all 3rd party things they don't show up in your lists proper. If you've put the folders in then you need to open the settigns from those folders within DAZ itself. If you use them be aware they will render in 3d delight so you get a somewhat different look and when you are setting up the figure and it's various elements you are better choosing the 3d choices if they have them rather than IRAY.

I only just got my new beast and haven't set up DAZ so I cant remember the exact folders you need to open to get to the settings and any other 3rd party stuff you've installed but I am sure someone can give you a heads up.

I see what you mean about delight vs IRAY!

IRAY but two types of lighting (look same to me pretty much)

3D delight using TEW 1c settings

3D delight using TEW 3a settings

I see what you mean about the style, open to thoughts others may have?
might have to play about more to decide which I prefer in the long run.

More using Delight rather than IRAY and the TEW lighting settings

Using a old blog post about Delight settings supposidly this was using insane detail levels - looks no different really and took similar time to render so maybe I messed them up

They look good. I prefer using 3delight to Iray, my renders are faster and fit in with the renders here much more

Thanks, I agree they do seem much faster than iray and typically fit in with C-verse style better, might give them a chance when I get time to play around further. Off my pc rest of today I suspect but see how it goes

The thing 3D has over IRAY for TEW renders is the end product is little 150 x 150 squares - that lends itself to the more cartoony style of 3D because at that small size subtlety becomes less important than making it pop. So the face painted green haired guy pops more in 3D but looks more human in IRAY. If you were doing full page renders then I'd say IRAY is better because of a lot of subtle details but in those little boxes I think 3D seems to be the consensus pick. I am sure there are certain figures where the IRAY is better for the TEW size picks but in general 3D just seems to work slightly better for this purpose.

I don't think it's a case of preferring one over another it's more a case of picking the right one for your purpose.
