Sunday Week 3 November, 1997 - The Palace At Auburn Hills - Detroit, Michigan - *SOLD OUT* (Attendance: 24,276)

[World War 3 opens to a very cool, and well produced, video showing someone in a hazmat suit after a nuclear bomb. He is walking through the debris field and we see a destroyed WCW ring intercut with World War 3 images from 1996. (This is the video that airs on the WWE Network broadcast of WW3). The video ends with him being incinerated. ]
Grade: 73

Immediately the video takes us into the sold out Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan as the crowd comes to life and pyro goes off around a giant jumbo tron. Tony, Bobby and Mike Tenay all welcome us to war. They sell the 60 man 3 ring World War 3 match later tonight and confirm the WCW.com story that sources say Hollywood Hogan's insurance policy is to enter the match himself.

They then confirm that earlier today Bret Hart arrived at the Palace of Auburn Hills and has been in seclusion. JJ Dillion from WCW and Eric Bischoff from the nWo will come to the ring later tonight and make their pitch for the Excellence of Execution.

We now go to the ring with our first match here at World War 3.

Grade: 74

Quote:

Harlem Heat start out with control of the match and dominate early on showing their prowess as a tag team but Meng and The Barbarian won't stay down. They eventually take control themselves and at one point, Jacquelyn decks Meng on the outside who just death glares at her and charges but she avoids the rush and he posts himself. That allows Booker T to take control again and some near falls almost give Harlem Heat the victory. Stevie Ray and Barbarian brawl on the floor and that leaves Meng in the ring with Booker T. Meng ducks a side kick and hits Booker with his own savate kick. This brings Jacquelyn back to the apron to distract Meng when, JIMMY HART making his WCW return jumps from the crowd and pulls Jackie down. She jumps on his back and starts pounding him and that distracts Meng who turns around and gets a Side Kick. Booker goes up top and nails the Harlem Hangover...1...2...3.

Following the match, Harlem Heat and Jacquelyn go up the aisle while Jimmy and the Faces of Fear seeth.

Winners and #1 Contender's: Harlem Heat Grade: 71

[The announcers run down the history of Bill Goldberg vs Mongo (Debra hiring Goldberg to go after Mongo for revenge on her ex, stealing Mongo's ring, etc.) We go to the match now.] Grade: 56

Quote:

Mongo comes out followed by Bill Goldberg who is wearing Mongo's SuperBowl ring. Mongo tries to club Goldberg and hits one powerslam that Goldberg immediately gets up from. Mongo looks scared and surprised as Goldberg floors him with several clotheslines, a shoulder block and a powerslam of his own. Debra comes down during this and smiles as quickly Mongo is hit with a spear. A Jackhammer is next for the 1...2...3.
Bill Goldberg is now 12-0

Following the match, Debra wants the ring. Goldberg looks at her like shes a moron and just places the ring in the fallen Mongo's hand and exits the ring. Debra is throwing a fit but it appears this one is over.

Winner: Bill Goldberg Grade: 45

[We go to Mean Gene Okerlund who is with the Nature Boy Ric Flair. Flair says that he doesn't give a damn about the United States Title..but Curt does. Curt took everything from Ric, he took two months of his career, he took the horsemen, and he took the heart of his best friend..Arn Anderson. So tonight, Ric takes what matters to Curt most of all and that is the United States title. Curt Hennig has just a little bit left to live because the Nature Boy is coming his way.] Grade: 63

The announcers take us back to last Monday on Nitro. They show us Raven's challenge to Roddy Piper and the Flock's beat down. We then see Piper accepting and are reminded that this is a match that is not sanctioned by WCW. WCW has agreed to provide a referee for the match but there are no rules and it will not be entered into the record books. Grade: 73

Quote:

Piper is out first while Raven and his flock make their way from the crowd. Raven tells them to stay in the audience while he jumps the barricade. This is a wild brawl from the start with the referee standing by and watching. They start in the ring with plunder but soon have hit the floor and end up in the audience brawling up to them. Raven and Piper end up in a concession stand where Piper sends Raven head first into a popcorn stand busting him open. They brawl near the bathrooms but don't go in and they head back down stairs to the set area. Raven takes a piece of "barbed wire" from the World War 3 set and gouges at Piper's head and that busts Roddy open. They brawl back to the ringside area where Piper brings in a chair and goes to hit Raven with it in the ring, but Kidman has jumped the guardrail and took the chair from him. Piper decks him and calls him an annoying rodent but that allows Raven a chance to get up. He goes for the DDT but Piper drops down and crotch chops Raven and locks on the sleeper hold. The crowd comes to their feet as Raven starts to fade but then the flock floods the ring. Kidman, Sick Boy, Lodi and Saturn dismantle Piper. Kidman hits the Shooting Star Press (Known from now on as the Seven Year Itch) and Saturn hits a DVD. Raven gets up and drops Piper with a DDT. He covers...1...2..Piper kicks out.

The flock goes to pounce again and grab Piper up while Raven sets up a chair in the center of the ring. Raven screams "I feel your pain" and drops Piper to the mat with a DDT again. 1...2... AND PIPER STILL KICKS OUT.

The flock grabs a nearly unconscious Piper once moor and Raven screams "Goodbye" and drops Piper one more time with a DDT but this time its on the seat of the chair and Roddy Piper does not get up from that. 1...2..3. Raven wins.

Winner: Raven Grade: 65
Following the match, the Flock goes after Piper again but this time WCW officials flood the ring. Piper clearly cannot defend himselfand eventually Raven and the Flock pull back. Piper never once moves as the officials put him on a stretcher and rush him to the back. We follow it entirely as Piper is loaded into an ambulance and some WCW wrestlers can be seen in near tears as the Hot Rod is driven away.

Grade: 53

Grade: 74

[In the back, Mean Gene is with Eddie Guerrero who mocks Rey Mysterio's knee injury at Eddie's hands two weeks ago on Nitro. He says says "By any means necessary, holmes" and promises to destroy Deano in just a few moments.]

Grade: 62

Quote:

This is a long and ultra competitive match. Dean and Eddie put on a wrestling clinic with counters to each other's counters. Eddie takes a more high flying approach while Dean tries to ground and pound. They battle on the floor where Eddie takes Malenko down with a flying suicide dive from the ring to the floor. He hits a brainbuster on the floor and rolls Dean in for a 2 count. Dean gets the Texas Cloverleaf in but before he can lock it on Eddie is able to get to the ropes. Dean starts taking control for awhile but Eddie, showing heart of his own, won't stay down. Eddie eventually hits 3 Amigos and a frog splash for the 1...2...Dean kicks out. Dean is back in control and he finally locks in the Texas Cloverleaf. Eddie screams and writhes in agony but he is able to get 3 fingers on the ring ropes just before he taps out. Dean has no choice but to let go and he goes to Eddie who rolls him up in a small package with his feet on the ropes for a 1...2..but the ref sees the feet. Eddie charges Dean but Dean reverses it and goes for a German Suplex but Eddie lands on his feet. Eddie nails Dean with the Brainbuster and then hits the Frog Splash from the top rope for the 1...2...3.

Winner and still WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Eddie Guerrero Grade: 79

[The announcers show us, through still images, the situations that have led us to this match: Curt's induction into the horsemen, his betrayal at Fall Brawl and the destruction of Flair, Flair's return and his pursuit of Hennig. The threats made on both sides lead us to this US title match.] Grade: 74

Quote:

Curt is out first all cocky and he is brought out by Vincent. Flair's music hits but we don't get the standard Ric Flair entrance, instead the Nature Boy bolts to the ring and before Curt can react, Flair is on him with chops and punches and the match is on. Flair settles into taking control and every time Curt tries to fight back, the 13 time world champ has an answer for him. Vincent gets on the apron and is decked for his trouble but that allows Curt time to chop block Flair and begins to work on his knee. Curt hits the fisherman's suplex but Flair kicks out at 2 and Curt throws Flair into the corner and works on him with some chops of his own before going for the Figure Four. Flair rolls him up into a small package for a very close two count. Flair goes for the figure four of his own and Curt is desperately trying to get out of it. He tries to get to the ropes and is unable to do so. Just as it is clear Curt is about to tap, Vincent is again on the apron and this causes Ric to break the hold and deck him once more. When Ric turns around, Curt kicks him blatantly in the crotch and the ref has no choice but to call for the disqualification.

Following the match as Ric winches in pain, Curt takes the belt and bolts from the ringside area clearly knowing how desperately close he was to losing.

Winner by Disqualification: Ric Flair Grade: 78

The announcers talk about how desperate Curt Hennig was to save his title. We then go to the back where we see Curt heading down a hall and we can hear Flair screaming for him. Curt is racing to the parking lot, belt in hand and gets to a car. Flair is almost there as Hennig peels out of Detroit and escapes into the night. Grade: 78

[The announcers talk about how the news that Bret Hart was a free agent and could come to WCW or the nWo. They speculate the pros and cons of why Hart could choose one or the other.] Grade: 76

Quote:
Mean Gene is in the ring and he brings out JJ and Eric. Bischoff is wearing a Pink and Black nWo logo shirt and has another one in his hands. Both have contracts in their hands. They argue back and forth about where he will end up when

the crowd comes alive as Bret "Hitman" Hart makes his way from the back and heads to the ring. Bischoff is bowing down to him as he gets into the ring and he shakes Bischoff's hand as well as JJ's. Bret motions for the two to begin.

JJ talks about the history of WCW and the NWA. He really plays up tradition and says that Bret and JJ have known each other for a very long time. JJ knows what Bret just left because JJ left it earlier this year himself. He knows how chaotic it was there and how the people up there are nothing but a bunch of 50 year old bosses acting like teenagers. JJ says Eric will promise him the world. Hell, he will promise Bret to be the second biggest star in the nWo behind Hogan...but WCW? WCW promises only opportunity and, the one thing that means the world to Bret, ...respect.

Bischoff shakes his hand again and hands the nWo shirt to him. He tells Bret that he has the backing of a billionaire so the world can be Bret's. Why in the world would tradition matter to Bret Hart? Did caring about tradition serve Bret well in New York? No, it got him passed by. Bret knows Savage, he knows Nash, he knows Hall, he knows Hennig, he knows Syxx. Bret knows these guys, he knows that they're all about making money and that is the promise Eric Bischoff can make. He will give Bret Hart bucket loads of money.

Bret plays to the crowd and then smirks at them. He walks over to JJ but then turns and walks to Eric. Bret puts his arm around Bischoff's shoulders as the crowd boos. Eric is smiling like the cheshire cat as Bret asks for the microphone. He says that both made compelling cases but there is one thing that Bret Hart has to admit...the opportunity to make money is appealing. That is the one thing that he didnt make before he got here and becoming rich in this business is an exciting prospect. (Bret looks at Eric and then says) "And Eric, you're right. I know Hall. I know Nash. I know Syxx. And they are all best friends with the man that screwed me just two weeks ago. And you? You strike me as nothing more than a less convincing con man than Vince McMahon is. Your offer is declined. Bret Hart is tradition and he will make a ton of money but he will do it as a member of World Championship Wrestling."

Bischoff turns pale and starts yelling at Bret and shoves Bret. Bret rears back and decks Bischoff in his face as the crowd comes alive. Bret walks over to JJ Dillon and signs the contract with WCW. He looks down at Bischoff and just casually throws that Black and Pink nWo shit on Bischoff who is out. Bret mouths WCW to the cameras and walks to the back slapping hands along the way.

Grade: 73

We go to the announce booth where Tony, Mike and Bobby are celebrating. As Bischoff is being pulled from the ring by some officials, clutching his jaw, we see Larry Zbyszko up by the entrance way. He is smirking but kept his promise to be here to see Bischoff with egg on his face. Bret Hart is WCW bound. Grade: 64

Michael Buffer is in the ring and he welcomes us to World War 3 and the main event of the evening. Here are the rules:

  • * 20 wrestlers to begin in each ring
  • *Elimination occurs when a wrestler is thrown over the top rope with both feet hitting the floor
  • *When there are 5 wrestlers left in each ring, the remaining 15 competitors will move to ring #2
  • *The last man standing is the winner and will earn a WCW World Heavyweight Title shot at SuperBrawl VIII on Sunday Week 3 February 1998 from the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California.

"Are you ready? *crowd cheers* Motor City Are You RRRRREEEAAADDYYYY? For the thousands in attendance and the millions watching around the world.....Ladies and Gentlemen.....LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEE".
Grade: 79

[i]Pyro explodes around each ring and at the entrance set. War is here. The WCW squadrant (Independents, contracted talent and international talent) are out first. They are:

Alex Wright Barry Darsow Booker T Brad Armstrong Brian Adams (WCW debut) Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chris Adams Chris Benoit Chris Jericho Dave Taylor Dean Malenko DDP Eddie Guerrero Ernest Miller Evan Karagais Glacier Heavy Metal (from Mexico) Hector Garza (from Mexico) Hugh Morrus Ice Train Guido (from the independents) Jeff Hardy Jim Duggan John Nord Johnny Grunge Jushin Liger (from Japan) Juventud Guerrera Kenny Kaos (from NJPW) Kidman La Parka Latin Lover (from Mexico) Lenny Lane Lex Luger Masahiro Chono (from NJPW) Matt Hardy Meng Mortis Prince Iaukea Psychosis Ray Traylor Ric Flair Rick Martel Rick Steiner Robbie Brookside (from the UK) Robbie Rage (from NJPW) Scott Steiner Steven Regal Stevie Ray The Barbarian The Giant Ultimo Dragon Wrath Yuji Nagata

The nWo faction comes out united and they are:

Buff Bagwell Hollywood Hulk Hogan Konan Randy Savage Scott Hall and Scott Norton

The announcers cry foul that there are 59 wrestlers because Kevin Nash does not come out and we see The Giant looking for him as the nWo gets into ring #1.

Quote:

The nWo stays in ring #1 and they start removing people left and right and whenever someone is about to get out, they protect that person. In ring #3, the Giant has cleared throwing six guys out immediately. DDP is in this ring as well and he is eliminating people as well.

Ring #2 has Flair and Luger who fight each other for a bit before forming an alliance as well.

In ring #1, it is down to Booker T and the nWo and Booker throws Scott Norton out. The pack then go after Booker and soon he has been thrown out and the nWo has survied ring #1.

In ring #3 The Giant and DDP remain with Eddie Guerrero, Meng and the Barbarian.

In ring #2 Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Chris Jericho, Wrath and Chris Benoit are left. It is 10 vs 5 for WCW and team WCW gets into ring #2 begging for the nWo to come take them. Hogan and company look scared but then they all point up.

Kevin Nash, mocking Sting, repells down to ring #1. He is dressed in Sting's gear, along with the baseball bat but no mask. It is 10vs6 in favor of WCW but Nash has the bat and they all go into ring #2.

A wild brawl breaks out and during that brawl, Wrath, Eddie, Benoit, Meng and the Barbarian go out as does Buff Bagwell. Also during the brawl, Nash has lost the bat.

We are down to Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Chris Jericho, The Giant and Diamond Dallas Page vs Hogan, Hall, Nash, Savage and Konnan. Jericho eliminates Konnan as Savage and Page go at each other. Flair goes for Hogan and damned near gets him. Giant goes for Nash but Scott Hall gets in the way and Giant tosses him over the ropes like hes nothing. Hogan is free of Flair and nails Giant from behind and he and Nash and Savage are able to throw the big man out.

While they celebrate DDP throws Savage out. Hogan throws Jericho while Nash throws Luger out. And we are down to DDP and Flair vs Hogan and Nash. Flair and Nash get tied up in the ropes and Hogan throws out them both. Hogan turns around - DIAMOND CUTTER. But Nash is in the ring and he Jackknife's Page. The Giant gets back in the ring and grabs Nash and goes for a Chokeslam but Nash is able to get away and he high tails it away. Giant is left with Hogan and DDP and with Luger and Flair still there cheering him on, he drills Hogan with the Chokeslam. DDP is back up and its academic as he throws Hollywood over the ropes and wins World War 3.

Winner of World War 3: Diamond Dallas Page Grade: 72

The nWo flood the ring and start attacking Page and Giant. This brings in Flair and Luger and, running down from the back, Bret Hart who is battling on behalf of team WCW. They are still out numbered when STING , the real Sting, comes up from under the ring. Hogan and company are scared to death and retreat. The last image we see is of Sting standing in the ring with Ric Flair, Lex Luger, The Giant, Bret Hart and the winner of World War 3, DDP. Grade: 78

[b]Match #1: Mortis vs Diamond Dallas Page/B]

Winner: Diamond Dallas Page

[DDP grabs a microphone and says that last night the People's Champ took one step forward to becoming *THE* champ and 1998 is the year of D.D.P. but that is next year. What is more important right now is that last night WCW was united in the face of the nWo. Last night Sting, DDP, Luger, Giant and Bret Hart showed the world that coming into Starrcade in just 5 weeks, WCW is locked and loa.....

[Nitro returns and we see a long limosuine approach the outside of the building. Out steps Hogan, Bischoff, Hall, Nash, Syxx, Savage, Liz, Hennig, and the rest of the nWo. They are clearly not happy with last night's results but they do seem united as they enter the arena.]

[We go to the announce set where Tony, Larry and Mike are playing up the big win for WCW last night. We are shown footage of Ric Flair vs Curt Hennig from last night and how Hennig blatantly cheated to save his United States Title. We are told that tonight The Ultimo Dragon will take on Curt Hennig for the United States Championship. Tony tells us that Eric Bischoff has barred Ric Flair from the building but that Ric Flair will be in the arena next week when Nitro comes to you from Nashville, Tenenssee.

This prompts Larry to go on a long rant about how Bischoff is pathetic and just mad because Bret Hart embarassed him last night. As Larry is ranting, suddenly his headset is cut off and he cant talk. He grab's Tony's and just as he starts to speak, that headset is cut off.

Bischoff comes out onto the stage and points and laughs at Larry as he is fuming. Bischoff mocks Larry saying "what's wrong? Cat got your tongue? Can't take us all to Larryland for your "insightful" thoughts? You piss me off, Larry and I will keep you off air permanently. Now do your job the way that *I* want to hear it."

The mic is turned on as Bischoff leaves with Larry fuming. He clearly isn't happy but he sits down and we go to the ring for our next match.]

Match #2: The Faces of Fear w/Jimmy Hart vs Glacier & Ernest Miller

This is pretty much a squash match. The Faces of Fear dominate and Glacier is the one that takes the pinfall after a Tongan Death Grip by Meng that leads to a big boot by Barbarian.

Winners: The Faces of Fear

[Following the match, Jimmy Hart grabs a microphone. He says that last night everyone saw the Faces of Fear get screwed by the interference of Jacquelyn. Well, the Faces of Fear are demanding the WCW Executive Committee to right this situation. They should be the ones facing the Steiners at Starrcade and the Committee better do something about it or...Meng and the Barbarian will.]

Match #4 : Konnan vs The Giant

We can call this a match in name only because its simply a massacre. Konnan gets virtually no offense, save one punch that just pisses The Giant off, and The Giant finishes him with two chokeslams. Vincent, Scott Norton and Bagwell try to come out to help but Luger and Page scare them off. The Giant makes the cover for the easy 3 count.

[Hour #2 kicks off with pyro as Tony and Mike welcome Bobby "the Brain" Heenan to the table. We see the the nWo scuttle to the back as Mean Gene makes his way to the ring. The guys at the announce table tell they are excited for what is about to happen and lets throw it to Mean Gene. ]

Grade: 75

============================

[Mean Gene thanks Tony for this and says "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome not to the nWo but to WCW....Bret "Hitman" Hart!"

Bret Hart comes out to a monster ovation. He steps into the ring and gives Gene a hug. You can tell this is a special moment for them both. Bret puts his arm over Gene's shoulder as he tells Milwaukee how proud he is to be in WCW. He tells the crowd that it is no secret that the last few weeks have been trying times for he and his family and for the fans of the Hitman worldwide and last night he had a choice to make. But the fact of the matter is it was never really a true choice.

The Hart family is tradition. The Hart family is pro wrestling. And the fact of the matter is, the rest of the Hart family would be here in WCW with the Hitman if Vince McMahon wasn't holding them hostage. And that's why Bret Hart did not join the nWo. The Hitman knows what it is like to work with an egomanical and arrogant ***hole for a boss. He knows what the "clique" is all about and he wasn't leaving one bad environment to join another.

Professional wrestling needs to be saved from people like McMahon, Michaels, Bischoff and Hall and Nash and their drunk buddy, Syxx. And that is what Bret Hart is going to do. He is going to join the WCW. He is going to fight for WCW. He is...

"Hey, yo. Bret shut the hell up". Scott Hall interrupts Hart's promo and he is up in the crowd along with Nash and Syxx. Nash mockingly waves at Bret and Syxx flips him off. Scott tells Bret that one of the reasons they left the WWF was because they could not deal with Bret's insuffering whining. And now he has brought it here to WCW. The fact of the matter is Bret made two bad choices in the span of just a few weeks. He made the choice to not do his JOB and he made the choice to jump on the Titanic that is WCW. Both of them fatal choices for his career. But if he has a problem with the Wolfpac, maybe he should pick his sack up off the floor and do something about it.

Bret tells him any time, anywhere.

The Wolfpac responds "We'll see you soon, Hitman. And by the way, (all together) hi Shawn. (they wave)"

They fade into the crowd and Bret just glares as Nitro goes to a commercial break. ]

[Nitro returns and the announcers hype up the intense Bret Hart / nWo segment. We are told that still to come is the United States Championship match between The Ultimo Dragon and Curt Hennig and Hollywood Hulk Hogan is expected to address the crowd. But now we go to the ring in a match of friends. The WCW Executive Committee is eyeing these two for potential championship opportunites down the road and they want to see what they can do. It's gonna be a clinic. Its Chris Benoit vs Dean Malenko so lets go to the ring LIVE on Monday Nitro. ]

Grade: 56

============================

Quote:
Match #5: Chris Benoit vs Dean Malenko

They hug and shake hands before the match begins. These two go super long and have, as expected, a clinic. It is a collision between two mat based opponents who can both go high flying. It is very much a strong style match and Malenko eventually gets control when he dumps Benoit to the floor and runs him into the guardrail and hits a brainbuster on the floor. Back in the ring he goes for the Texas Cloverleaf but Benoit struggles to reverse it. Malenko kicks him in the head several times, stiffly, and locks it in. Benoit struggles to stay in it but eventually gets to the ropes. Malenko goes for it again but Benoit drags Malenko down, hooks his arm and locks in the crossface. Malenko is now screaming in agony as he tries to make it to the ropes and just does. Both men are back up and both men run opposite ropes, Malenko leap frogs Benoit, Benoit goes for a drop kick but Malenko side steps it. Malenko goes for the brainbuster but Benoit rolls down behind and nails the German Suplex right on Malenko's head. Benoit goes up to for the headbutt but Malenko just rolls out of the way and Benoit crashes to the mat.

Both men are down and just at that moment, RAVEN'S FLOCK jump over the barricade and hit the ring. Sick Boy, Kidman, Lodi, and Saturn attack both competitors and the referee has no choice but to throw this match out.

No Contest Due to Outside Interference

Grade: 70
============================

[Following the match as the Flock has Benoit and Malenko beaten down we see Raven jump over the barricade. He is wearing Roddy Piper's kilt and he begins a promo talking about the seven deady sins and focuses on pride and how these two were trying to show off to the world about what good talents they have. They have the best of everything and don't know what it is to suffer. Piper didnt know what it was to suffer until last night and neither does Benoit and Malenko. But they will.

Raven goes and drops both with a DDT. Nitro goes to commercial with the Flock in the ring and Raven continuing his diatribe.]

[Nitro returns and we see Raven and the Flock still in the ring. WCW security and referees and Chris Jericho with a chair comes out to the ring. Jericho stands between Benoit and Malenko with the chair raised as the officials get the two fallen grapplers out of the ring and to the back. Jericho then reveals a microphone he had in his pocket.

"What's wrong with you, huh? You come out here, wearing the kilt of a legend, and you attack two men trying to prove themselves to the executives in WCW? Why Piper, huh?

Yes he is an Icon, but he is a man in his 40s with no working hip. He was broken down and had to be in pain for every waking moment of his life. You're in your 20s, you're younger and faster and better. He was here for one last run and you ended it....for what?

Did it make you feel like a big man? You and your lackeys attacking people from behind make you feel all big and tough? And what the hell did Chris and Dean ever do to you, jackass? What's your deal, man?"

(Raven merely glares)

"No response? Nothing from the peanutt gallery over here? Well how bout this, (Jericho puts down the chair), my back is not turned but here I am. You want a fight, start with me."

(The flock goes to attack but Raven merely pulls them back. He smiles at Jericho and leaves the ring. The Flock follows and Raven and the Flock jump over the barricade and go through the crowd. Jericho watches confused.) ]

[Nitro returns and Ultimo Dragon makes his way out to the ring. Followed by Curt Hennig of the nWo. The announcers remind us that Flair is not here tonight but he will be in the building next week in Nashville.

Quote:
Match #6 WCW United States Championship Match: Ultimo Dragon vs WCW United States Champion Curt Hennig

This is a terrific back and forth contest and Ultimo Dragon really shows himself well. Curt nearly taps out to the dragon sleeper but he is able to fight back into the match. He hits the Fisherman's Suplex but Dragon kicks out at two. Hennig locks in the Figure Four on Ultimo and mocks Flair as Dragon tries to survive. Ultimately, its too much and Dragon is forced to kick out but Hennig has a look of respect on his face for Dragon who gave him a fight.

Winner and still WCW United States Champion: Curt Hennig

[Voodoo Child hits as Eric Bischoff comes out followed by Hollywood Hulk Hogan. Bischoff is all smiles and bowing down to Hogan as Hogan plays the air guitar on the World Title. They look like they don't have a care in the world as they enter the ring. Bischoff produces his mic and begins:

"Oooh, we love you too. Its 10pm on the east coast, the top of the hour. Nitro's gone long and our "competition", if you can call that little show competition, has gone off the air. And since it was taped we already know how much of a snoozer it was. But they're done, we're LIVE - Hollywood, you wanna speak and the world is now yours." (Hands Hogan the mic).

"I love your timing, Easy E. You really are brilliant, brother. Welcome to the Hollywood hour here on Monday Nitro. And I am here tonight for one reason and one reason only and that is, not to play any games with fake Stings or the real one sneaking up out of under the ring or dropping from the ceiling, I am here to send a clear message to Sting.

Brother, when I came to WCW 3 and a half years ago, this was your world. You and Flair ran this joint and Hollywood came in and took over and it is clear that you have resented me since day one for it. You pretended to be my friend but I knew it was all fake down here, brother. I knew you didn't mean it, man. And that is why I never clued you in on our plan with the nWo. That is why you were left out in the cold. And so you turn to the shadows and you make yourself so annoying that we cave and give you a title shot. But its more than that, Sting. Its your life.

5 weeks, man. 5 weeks is all you have left to live in my world, Sting. Because here is what is going to happen...you can play all the games you want, Hollywood ain't scared bruh. At Starrcade you have to end the games and walk down to the ring and stand face to face with the GOD of professional wrestling. And when you do, your life ends. I will break your bones, I will break your heart and I will steal your soul. And then the little Stingers will be left crying and WCW will finally die.

That is your fate and whatcha gonna do Sting at Starrcade when Hollywood ends your career?"

[Bischoff says good night but right after he does the lights start to flicker in the arena. Bischoff is like what the hell and then we start hearing sounds of crows from all over the place. Hogan and Bischoff are looking up and around as the lights flicker when suddenly they go out......

....after a minute or so they come back on and the ring is surrounded by children. Children who are dressed in trench coats. Children dressed in long black wigs. Children wearing Sting masks and they have surrounded Bischoff and Hogan. As the lights flicker and the crows cry out the children, blank and faceless, state at Hogan and Bischoff. The two in the ring look creeped out and, yes, scared to death as they look around, backs to each other, for Sting as Nitro goes off the air. ]

The show begins with a recap of last week's show, focusing on DX getting Ken Shamrock arrested, the Undertaker again refusing to fight his brother, and Commissioner Slaughter ending the night by announcing two huge matches for In Your House

Grade: 89

DX comes down to the ring as soon as the show begins. Michaels says that all the talk this week has been about what they did to Ken Shamrock. Well he’s already tired of Shamrock and he isn’t going to wait for In Your House. So come on, let’s send the felon out right now. As Shamrock’s music hits Jim Ross reminds us that Shamrock is not only absent from the building, he’s slated for an interview via satellite later tonight.

Ross turns out to be correct because we don’t see the world’s most dangerous man, we see a very small man come out, dressed as Shamrock and with some type of wig similar to Shamrock’s hair. He uses the same mannerisms and makes his way to the ring but Michaels says to slow down. Don’t forget it’s a cage match. Chyna then goes to the outside and brings a dog crate cage into the ring. “Shamrock” gets down on all fours and climbs into the cage. He’s latched in as Michaels sits on the cage, with a big smile and says at In Your House, Shamrock is going to be treated like the bitch he is.

DX’s music hits and they leave the ring, but not before Triple H kicks the side of the crate, knocking it on it’s side.

Grade: 73

Quote:

The Sultan doesn’t show any mercy to young Scott Taylor. Sultan tortures him for several minutes before locking in the Camel Clutch for the win.

Winner by Submission: The Sultan
Grade: 43

As the bell continues to ring, the Sultan won’t release the Camel Clutch no matter how the referee pleads.

Finally the Patriot runs down to the ring, and attacks the Sultan which causes him to break the hold. They begin to brawl and after ducking a clothesline the Patriot sends the Sultan to the outside with a dropkick. From the fire in each of their eyes, this isn’t settled.

Grade: 43

The camera cuts backstage where we find the Godwinns and the Legion of Doom in the middle of a brawl. Officials and referees flood the scene to get them separated.

Commissioner Slaughter appears and says he’s had enough of this. At In Your House they’ll meet with the WWF Tag Team Titles on the line.

Grade: 55

Vince McMahon is seen backstage in his office with associates Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco. McMahon laments how he’s being viewed by the public after Survivor Series while Patterson and Brisco assure him that he’s done nothing wrong. He says that he knows what he has to do. At In Your House he’ll address the fans in person and he’s sure they’ll understand where he’s coming from. Patterson and Brisco nod in agreement but share a wary glance when McMahon looks away.

Grade: 85

Quote:

The DOA are able to keep Recon in their corner for the beginning of the match but as soon as he tags in Kurrigan, they don’t stand a chance as the giant takes total control. As the Jackal shouts commands from outside the ring, he decimates them, finally putting 8-Ball down with a huge boot to the face.

Winners by Pinfall: The Truth Commission
Grade: 37

Backstage, Vader is on a rampage. When officials can’t calm him down, Commissioner Slaughter arrives on scene and says that if Vader wants Goldust he’ll have him at In Your House. But if he’s got a lot of anger to get out, he can do it in the ring. Tonight, he’ll go one on one with Triple H. Vader seems satisfied and looking forward to his match. When he leaves, Slaughter gives a small chuckle and says ‘suck that’; under his breath.

Grade: 68

Backstage we see Mankind who’s just minding his own business when he’s stopped by Sable. She says she just wanted to wish him good luck. She then gives him a kiss on the cheek. Mankind doesn’t even know what to say but stammers out a thank you and keeps moving.

From further down the hall we see Merc Mero who’s been watching.

Grade: 64

Marlena, looking very sultry, is lounging poolside. She lowers her shades and says to stay right here because the Warzone is next!

Grade: 68

Quote:

Vader’s anger hasn’t abated as he throws Triple H around the ring. Every time Triple H tries to recover Vader is all over him. Triple H puts up some offense once Chyna distracts Vader, but when he goes for the Pedigree, Vader backdrops him, then follows it up with a series of elbow drops. As he’s dragging Triple H to the corner for the Vader Bomb, Goldust comes to ringside and gets on the apron, bringing the referee to himself. As Vader climbs the turnbuckles, Chyna slips into the ring and delivers a low blow. Vader hangs onto the ropes, but both Chyna and Triple H force him to the mat with an assisted powerbomb. Chyna exits and Goldust drops off the apron as Triple H makes the cover and scores the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Triple H
Grade: 80

As Triple H leaves, Goldust hits the ring and is immediately all over Vader, raining down right hands on him. He’s shouting that it’s not Vader time, it’s Goldust time. Finally officials separate them. As he goes back up the ramp, Vader turns his eyes to him and looks furious.

Grade: 63

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler let us know about a big eight man tag next week. The New Age Outlaws will team with the Godwinns to take on the Blackjacks and the WWF Tag Team Champions, the Legion of Doom.

Grade: 50

The Rock is seen exiting his locker room and walks right into Commissioner Slaughter. Slaughter demands to know where Stone Cold is. Rock smirks and says he ought to check every trailer park and third rate bar in Texas. But it brings up a good point. Austin running away after the Rock laid the smackdown on him is not a good look for the WWF or the Intercontinental title and the Rock demands that when …if….Austin doesn’t come back next week that Slaughter strip him of the title and give it to the Rock. Slaughter is almost speechless, but sighs and says we’ll see. When he leaves the Rock is all smiles.

Grade: 69

Quote:

Jeff Jarrett is way too cocky in the beginning and it costs him when Holly takes him down and shows him up. Seething, Jarrett mounts a comeback and takes over the match. Holly doesn’t go away but when Jarrett hits the Reverse Russian Leg Sweep it’s over.

Winner by Pinfall: Jeff Jarrett
Grade: 62

After the match Jarrett gets on the mic and says he’s looked high and low but nobody in the back has the skills or the guts to meet him at In Your House for an actual WRESTLING match. A moment later he gets an answer.

Ahmed Johnson comes down to the ring, looks Jarrett up and down and says he’ll see him at In Your House. Jarrett’s expression shows this was the last thing he expected.

Grade: 60

A promo is shown hyping In Your House: D-Generation X. Ross and Lawler then run down the known card including the match we just heard with Jeff Jarrett taking on Ahmed Johnson.

Grade: 93

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler interview Ken Shamrock via satellite. Shamrock says that DX may have thought setting him up last week was funny but they won’t be laughing when Shawn Michaels is locked in a steel cage with him. He says this is right up his alley and Michaels better enjoy being champion for the next two weeks because at In Your House that belt is coming home with him.

Grade: 74

Quote:

The Rock goes on offense quickly and uses Mankind as a punching bag for awhile but when the tables turn it’s the Rock who gets lit up by Mankind’s brutality. During the course of the fight, the referee is knocked out when Mankind accidentally clotheslines him. The Rock tries to go for a Rock Bottom but Mankind fights out of it, and hits a double arm DDT. Mankind looks to the crowd and gains their approval after motioning to the top rope. He goes to the outside and begins climbing up, intent on dropping an elbow, when Marc Mero runs down with a chair.

Mero cracks him over the back sending him tumbling to the mat. The Rock, still dazed, gets Mankind to his feet and delivers the Rock Bottom. He makes the cover and the referee makes a very slow three count.

Winner by Pinfall: The Rock
Grade: 82

As soon as the bell rings, Mero re-enters the ring and begins bashing Mankind with the chair. Over and over, he finally stops when the chair is bent. He leaves Mankind laying as he heads back up the ramp and Sable meets him half way yelling at him but when the camera cuts back to Mankind he’s pushed himself up into a sitting position. And he’s smiling.

Grade: 72

WWF's monthly financials show a gain of $737,419.

WWF have been busy with foreign distribution, reaching deals to expand their brand further into Canada, UK/Europe, Mexico, and Japan. This includes a new B-Show, WWF Heat.

It's likely WWF is done with their hiring spree as of late and some expect a few talents to be let go at the turn of the new year depending on financials in December.

There is a feeling that we'll see more of Vince McMahon on-screen but he is unlikely to return to commentary.

WCW Chaos
As the company should be celebrating a wildly successful pay per view and a Nitro that saw WCW win the Monday Night War by nearly 2 million more viewers, instead WCW got a week of chaos.

It started at World War 3 itself when Chris Adams appeared to be under the influence of several intoxicants. He participated in the match and morale took a hit. Adams was initially suspended but he has now since been fired by WCW.

Prior to Nitro, WCW held a drug test for some random talent, Buff Bagwell of the nWo tested positive for hard drugs and was immediately sent home. He has been sent to rehab.

Then came the Saturday Night taping where all hell broke loose.

Konnan, stupidly, started a fight with Bill Goldberg and promptly got his ass beat. WCW fined Konnan and the belief is he is not long for WCW.

Lex Luger began acting like a jerk to Mean Gene Okerlund. A loud screaming match broke out and Luger beat up Okerlund. Luger was sent home and he has been suspended. He is due to return just prior to Starrcade. No word on if he will ever come back to the company or if Gene Okerlund will be on Nitro next week.

All was not bad for WCW as they totaled just under 40,000 in attendance this week.

The television push for Starrcade has begun, expect matches to be made more clear this week on Nitro.

Next weekend, Saturday December Week 1, WCW will run a special event house show from the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. It will be headlined by Diamond Dallas Page & Ric Flair vs Hall & Nash of the nWo - we are told not to read anything into that match up.

Ratings:

Nitro: 15.84 - 11,882,430 viewers.
Raw: 13.48 - 10,112,920 viewers.

World War 3 was a .63 buy rate with 255,838 buys

WCW Monday Nitro - Episode 116
Monday Week 1, December 1997 - The Municipal Auditorium- Nashville, Tennessee - *SOLD OUT* (Attendance: 15,000)

[WCW Monday Nitro opens to footage from the closing moments of last week on Nitro where children dressed as Sting showed up surrounding the ring and leaving Hogan and Bischoff in it. We then go to the usual Nitro opening and cue Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Larry Zbyszko for hour number one on a night where the Nature Boy Ric Flair is here and on a night where Hollywood Hulk Hogan is NOT here tonight. We will also have an answer from the WCW Executive Committee on the request from the Faces of Fear, The Macho Man Randy Savage will be in action and we are told that the nWo has a challenge for Bret Hart.

All that to come but we go to the ring for our first match here on Monday Nitro and it features WCW vs the nWo

Grade: 76

============================

Quote:
Match #1: Scott Norton vs Bill Goldberg

Absolute decimation. Nortonnever even gets in some offense. Goldberg just spits him out and there is nothing that he can do. Jackhammer, 3 count.

Winner: Bill Goldberg

Grade: 52 ]
============================

[The announcers then throw it to Mean Gene Okerlund who is supposed to be at the Nitro set. But instead the set is empty. Tony asks "Gene?" and Okerlund comes out and walks right to the announce set. He is furious as he asks Tony for the microphone sitting on the floor next to him. Gene gets on the mic and says that six days ago something happened that has never happened to him in the industry. A man that Gene thought was his friend started a fight with him at a television taping and beat his ass. Gene tells the camera to look as his eye and mouth and it is clearly busted. And did that man get fired? No. He got suspended, with pay, for 28 days and will be back in time for Starrcade and why?

Because of Eric Bischoff.

Eric Bischoff created the culture that allowed Lex Luger to beat my ass. He took a guy that Vince McMahon didnt want anymore, a guy who was a prima donna, and who no one back there likes and paid him a bunch of dollars and then let him run wild around here. And all Bischoff does back there is sit in Hogan's dressing room and drink the beers from his cooler because he's not a real boss, he wants to be "one of the boys".

Well, Bischoff, you are the boss here in WCW. You are responsible. "And you will hear from my lawyer. "

Gene drops the mic and storms off as Tony signals to the director to take us to an abrupt commercial on Nitro.]

[Nitro returns to a "Starrcade Moment". It is Starrcade 86 the Skywalkers. It is the scaffold match that saw Jim Cornette fall from the scaffold and blow out his knee. The video shows several replace of him landing badly. The Starrcade 97 logo forms and we see an image of Hogan and Sting in the background of it. Starrcade 1997 is just 4 weeks away. ]

[At the Nitro set is Tony Schiavone. He is with JJ Dillon of the WCW Executive Committee and JJ makes the following announcement. Though he does not like them, The Faces of Fear have a point. They were on the verge of defeating Harlem Heat at World War 3 before Jacquelyn's interference. But the committee does not believe in just handing a title match to the Faces of Fear, it must be earned. So later on tonight there will be a rematch from World War 3 between Harlem Heat and The Faces of Fear. Both Jimmy Hart and Jacquelyn are banned from ringside and if The Faces of Fear win this match, they're in at Starrcade and it will be a Triangle Tag Team Match for the WCW World Tag Team Titles.]

[We get footage from last week that showed Raven's Flock attacking Chris
Benoit and Dean Malenko. Then we see Chris Jericho come out to make the save.]

Match #2: Psychosis vs Chris Jericho

Back and forth match early but Psychosis takes control for awhile until he misses a top rope leg drop and Jericho takes over. Soon Jericho hits a Lion Sault for the 3 count.

Winner: Chris Jericho

[Following the match, as Jericho celebrates, Raven (still in Piper's kilt) and his flock swarm the ring. They get in and start laying waste to Jericho. Just as Raven is about to drop Jericho with a DDT, Benoit and Malenko come running out and Raven and his group are forced to bail from the ring. Benoit and Malenko check on Jericho as Nitro goes to commercial.

Match #3: The Faces of Fear vs Harlem Heat

This is a wild brawl from the very beginning. Both teams separate and start fighting on the floor and the referee has a hell of a time getting everyone back to the ring. Once they do, the Faces of Fear take over dominating Booker T and keeping him from making the hot tag. Eventually he is able to and Stevie Ray starts cleaning house but soon, Meng delivers a thrust kick and Ray is down. This brings in Booker T and the teams are brawling again. In the mele, Booker and Barbarian go outside the ring and Booker is thrown into the barricade. Barbarian sneaks in and drills Stevie with a running boot to the face, Meng locks in the Tongan Death Grip and the Faces of Fear are headed to Starrcade to join Harlem Heat and The Steiner Brothers in a Triangle Match for the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

Winners: The Faces of Fear

Grade: 61
============================

[We go to the announce table where Larry Zbyszko, who has been quiet most of the evening, tells everyone that he is sorry but he has something to say. He takes off his headset and grabs the same microphone that Mean Gene Okerlund used earlier in the evening.

Larry says that in 1990 he came to this company after spending years in the AWA and while the early days of WCW had its up and downs, it knew who it was. This was a company that valued tradition. Honor. Respect. Doing things the right way. And sure, it may not have made as much money as it does now but it was a place where we could hold our head up high when we came to work.

That all changed when Eric Bischoff took over. Bischoff has no respect for professional wrestling. He has no desire to ever get a clue and he never has. And for the last nearly five years, I have sat back and watched Bischoff ruin this great company. He took all that was great about the NWA and all that was great about the early WCW and threw it all away.

He brought in parasites like Hogan, Nash and Hall - who is still ducking me by the way, and he destroyed the tradition that WCW was built around. He ran Roddy Piper out of this company. Marcus Bagwell was a good kid but now he's "Buff" and that means he's a drug addict in rehab. Gene Okerlund is about to sue this company and its thanks to Bischoff.

I cannot sit idly by and take it anymore. Someone has got to stop this tyranny and if Bischoff has any piece of the male anatomy, he will man up and accept this challenge:

The Living Legend wants a match with Eric Bischoff at Starrcade.

"What's it gonna be, Eric? Do you have the guts? Accept my challenge, and come Starrcade, I'll take you to Larry-Land...where we will make a man out of you."

Tony and Mike clap as do the rest of the crowd as Nitro goes to commercial.

[When Nitro returns we see Tony and Mike at the desk. We are taken to footage of during the break where Larry Zbyszko had returned to his set and had his headset back on. They were all talking to their floor manager when Doug Dillinger walks up and he is flanked by Tennessee State Police. He looks upset but tells everyone that by orders of Eric Bischoff, Larry is to be escorted out of the building by force arrest if necessary. Doug apologizes and Larry says he gets it and, with a wave to the crowd, departs the set.]

Match #4 Jeff vs Randy Savage

Savage smacks this young kid around and doesn't take him seriously so when he goes for a clothesline, Jeff, ducks it and rolls Macho Man up and gets a very close two count. This wakes up Savage who goes nuts on Jeff and throws him to the floor, draping his throat on the barricade and flying off the top rope with a double axe handle. He pounds the kid and rubs his face on the ring mats around the ring and rolls him in the ring. Savage slams him and drops the big elbow but won't cover. He goes up and drops another big elbow and finally covers for the 3 count.

Winner: Randy Savage

Grade: 74

[Post Match, Savage continues his destruction of this kid and his brother, Matt, runs out to help but Savage soon dispatches of him. The crowd comes alive as, when Macho goes for another elbow drop onto Jeff, DDP runs down and into the ring. He and Savage brawl a bit but Savage is able to escape and he screams "this ain't over" as he heads to the back. ]

[Tony and Mike tell us that Hour #2 will kick off after this time out and it will be with the return of the Nature Boy!]

============================

[Hour #2 kicks off with pyro and then Nashville comes alive as The Nature Boy makes his way to the ring. Flair is smiling and strutting to the ring soaking up the crowd's love.

He gets in the ring and says how hot Music City is tonight in December. And the Nature Boy is on fire too....wooooo. Now everyone may be wondering why the Nature Boy is in a good mood tonight given the last few months and given that he was denied entry last week to Nitro and we'll get there in a few moments because there is good news tonight.

For months, Flair has been tormented by a man he thought was a friend. He brought Curt Hennig to WCW and he brought him into the Horsemen. They had a friendship going back over a decade long, Flair is friends with Curt's dad Larry, and Flair never believed for a minute that Curt could stoop so low.
And Flair never thought that Hennig was a coward. Even after he betrayed the Horsemen, Ric believed that Curt was still a man. Until 8 days ago at World War 3 when Curt Hennig kicked the Nature Boy in Space Mountain and ran out of the building like a little girl. But that is all about to be rectified tonight.

Because The Nature Boy just got done talking to JJ and the news of the evening is this: In 27 days...Starrcade...the brand new MCI Center, it will be the Nature Boy Ric Flair and Curt Hennig one more time. It will be for the United States Title one more time. But this time there is no running, there is no escaping, there is no weasling out...The Nature Boy gets Hennig's ass INSIDE A STEEL CAGE.

As the crowd comes to life, the music of the nWo plays and Flair looks around for a fight. Instead of Hennig we get Syxx who comes out alone and stops mid way to the ring. He says Curt Hennig is not here tonight but Syxx is. And its fitting that Flair got his old running buddy, JJ, to give him what he wants but all he did was sign his own death warrant. Curt Hennig will take Flair apart in the cage at Starrcade but that's if he makes it there first. Because the Wolfpac wants a piece and we're gonna smoke you tonight, grandpa.

Flair tells Syxx if he wants a fight, he's got it...tonight.

Syxx warns him to be careful what he asks for.]

[Nitro turns to a video where it takes a trip with Bret Hart back home in
Canada. We see him with his family hanging out, and with fans in the area. He shows momentos and pictures from his youth and in Calgary Stampede. He talks about tradition and says this is why he joined WCW and why he is proud to fight alongside WCW against the nWo. ]

[Nitro returns and we see Hall in the crowd. He is alone and he demands Bret Hart to come out but Hart clearly isn't there tonight. Hall says that Hart is just scared of the nWo and that he made a bad mistake last week. Hart thinks he knows what suffering is like? Well, hey, the original outsider, Scott Hall is more than willing to take him to school. So it goes like this, Hitman, you want a fight? You don't like the Wolfpac? You don't like me? Bite me. Come get yourself some at Starrcade. Scott Hall is calling out Bret Hart and if you don't like it, do something about it. ]

Match #5: Jushin Liger & Ultimo Dragon vs Mortis & Wrath

A fast paced match early but soon Wrath takes control and it appears that James Vandenburg's oddities would win but some miscommunication between Mortis and Vandy when Liger starts a comeback sends Mortis into the manager. Wrath tries to get in as Ultimo Dragon puts in the Dragon Sleeper on Mortis but he isnt able to make it in time as Mortis taps out.

Winners: Jushin Liger & Ultimo Dragon

Grade: 61

[Following the match, Vandy is pissed and he screams at Mortis. Mortis stands up and pushes Vandeburg who pushes him back. Wrath is on the outside watching all this as Mortis decks Vandenburg and knocks him out. Mortis takes off the mask and throws it on Vandenburg and we see his face for the first time. He leaves the ring and looks at Wrath who shrugs and leaves with him leaving Vandenburg, seemingly, with no one. ]

[Nitro goes to a video of Eddie Guerrero down in the WCW Power Plant beating up a bunch of wrestlers who wear Rey Mysterio masks. He talks about how he has been dominanting the industry for so long that it isn't even a challenge but he wants Rey to acknowledge his greatness. He asks for Rey to come to Nitro next week and tell the world that Eddie Guerrero is on fire, he's the heat, and he is the geratest cruiserweight champion of all time. If not, Eddie will hurt someone that Rey loves......"whatever it takes, holmes, whatever it takes." We then see Eddie fly off the top rope and deliver a frog splash onto a Rey-mask wearing wrestler as the video fades out.]

Hall is out with his buddy and this match is basically what you expect. Everytime Traylor tries to get some come back, Hall distracts the ref or distracts Traylor. With every punch or kick or big slam Nash does, he says "this is for you, Giant". He goes for The Giant's Chokeslam but lets Traylor out and then delivers the Jacknife for the 3 count.

Winner: Kevin Nash

Match #7: Syxx vs Ric Flair

This starts out as a wrestling match but soon it has turned into a brawl. Flair beats the kid all over the ringside area and even up by the Nitro set chopping Syxx against the WCW logo symbols. They make it back into the ring And Syxx takes over and starts using aerial manenvers to take down Ric. Flair begins his comeback and just as he is about to put Syxx in the figure four, Curt Hennig runs down from the back. He gets on the ring apron and Flair decks him but that allows the US title to be left in the ring. Hennig tries to get back on the apron but the referee is refusing to let him in. Syxx has the belt and charges Flair, who ducks, chops Syxx and takes the belt from him. *CRACK* Flair nails Syxx and throws the belt to the floor. He lays on Syxx for the 1...2..3.

Winner: Ric Flair

============================

[As Flair celebrates, here come the troops. Nash, Hall, Savage, Hennig, Norton, Bischoff is out there as is Vincent. They all begin to take apart Flair when DDP and the Giant run down. They try to make the save and Flair and team WCW are fighting off the nWo. Suddenly....

Sting comes from the crowd and gets in the ring. He nail's Flair in the back with the baseball bat and then hits DDP. We then realize its another fake Sting and as The Giant goes after this imposter, the nWo is on him.

Soon all 3 WCW guys are laying and out cold. They hold down The Giant's taped and injured right hand and Nash takes the fake Sting's baseball bat and smash's Giant's hand. He screams in agony before being beaten down into unconsciousness again.

Bischoff laughs in the camera and says "that was for you, Hollywood...enjoy your vacation. See you next week." Bischoff bows to his nWo pack who have taken out Page, Flair and Giant before blowing a mocking kiss to the ceiling where Sting has not been seen.

The nWo stands tall as Nitro goes off the air. ]

The show begins with a recap of last week's show, focusing on the match between Vader and Triple H with Goldust’s interference and then the build to Rock and Mankind, both with Marc Mero’s actions and the Rock making demands of Commissioner Slaughter where it relates to Stone Cold Steve Austin

Grade: 92

As the show begins, Commissioner Slaughter is already in the ring. He says that last week an issue was brought up and he asks the Rock to come down to the ring.

A moment later the Rock struts down and he’s all smiles. Slaughter says that he’s thought about it all week and the Rock is correct. Stone Cold Steve Austin has been absent for weeks and he is due to defend the Intercontinental Championship so unless he can show up for In Your House….
It’s at this moment the Rock’s top of the line 1997 cell phone goes off. He motions for Slaughter to be quiet as he answers. His side of the conversation consists of “What do you mean he’s gone?” “How long were you knocked out?” And then realization begins to show on his face. Before he can react the crowd pops to its feet when it hears breaking glass.

Austin comes running down to the ring, and the Rock just stares with his eyes wide as Slaughter gets out of the ring. When Austin hits the ring they’re brawling with Austin getting the clear better of it. He goes for a stunner but the Rock slips out and gets out of the ring. Austin grabs the mic Slaughter had been using and says this Sunday if the Rock wants his title so bad he can try and take it but all that’s gonna happen is a old fashioned ass whipping. And that’s the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so.

Grade: 98

Quote:

Sultan and Patriot begin the match but the heels take control early. But with the crowd’s help, the Patriot makes a comeback and makes a big tag to Johnson who begins taking over. He shows his power by flooring the Sultan with a big clothesline but when he turns around, Jarrett cracks him over the head with his guitar. The referee instantly calls for the bell.

Winners by Disqualification: The Patriot and Ahmed Johnson
Grade: 69

As Ahmed Johnson is helped up by the Patriot, Jeff Jarrett mocks him up the aisle and says he’ll play another hit this Sunday!

Grade: 69

Vader is backstage with Michael Cole. He says that this Sunday at In Your House Goldust will pay the price for his actions. And he knows that Goldust thinks he has an advantage going into their match but Vader has a surprise of his own. Cole asks what it is, but Vader just grins and walks away.

Grade: 47

Backstage, we see Triple H and he’s dragging a cameraman with him. They spot the Undertaker and Triple H tells the camera to stay here before sprinting over and attacking the Undertaker. He gets in several hard shots before the Undertaker begins fighting back, eventually getting the better of it and sends Triple H running away. Undertaker shakes his head and turns around…..

….right into Kane!

The Undertaker doesn’t have a moment to react before Kane grabs him around the neck and flings him through an office hallway window. We hear Paul Bearer laughing as the camera creeps over to the window and sees the Undertaker who isn’t moving.

Grade: 100

A pretty even affair but Mero’s willingness to take cheap shots and shortcuts makes all the difference. It isn’t long before he hits a TKO for the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Marc Mero
Grade: 58

Mero is very full of himself after the match. Unfortunately for him he doesn’t see Mankind crawl out from under the ring and slip in behind him. Sable sees but doesn’t say anything and when Mero turns around he walks right into a Mandible Claw. In a few moments, Mero is out cold. Mankind gets a mic and says that since this Sunday marks In Your House, he’s inviting the Marvelous One to his. This Sunday…he’ll see Mero….in the Boiler Room!

Grade: 72

Backstage Vince McMahon is standing with his entourage when Stone Cole Steve Austin walks past. Vince sticks out his hand and says he wants to welcome Austin back. Austin looks at him, down at his hand, then sneers and walks past.

The camera focuses on McMahon who looks offended, while Patterson and Brisco assure him he did nothing wrong.

Grade: 88

Commissioner Slaughter knocks on the DX dressing room and Chyna answers. He tells her to tell Shawn Michaels that tonight there will be a contract signing for the title match this weekend and he is to show up alone. If DX comes with him…well, just don’t. She rolls her eyes and slams the door.

Grade: 73

We see a replay of the earlier fight between Triple H and the Undertaker which saw Taker win an initial victory but a moment later his little brother was tossing him through a window. Jim Ross mentions that the Undertaker rejected medical aid but nobody’s seen him since.

Grade: 82[/quote]

Quote:

Bart Gunn comes out of his corner throwing right hands but he can’t do more than stagger Kane. The crimson demon as Ross calls him doesn’t take long to grab control of the match, pummeling Gunn before putting him down with a big chokeslam…then another…then another. Finally Paul Bearer shouts out some instruction and Kane puts Gunn away with a Tombstone.

Winner by Pinfall: Kane
Grade: 63

Paul Bearer gets in the ring with a mic and he says everyone saw tonight a brief moment of Kane’s wrath. He’s only getting angrier and as long as the Undertaker draws breath, his brother will be there to extinguish it.

Grade: 84

DX is seen meeting in their lockeroom thanks to a camera peeking in. Michaels is furious, throwing things across the room as Triple H and Rude try to calm him down. Triple H says they have a plan and it’ll all be fine. Michaels says he better be right.

Grade: 76

Quote:

The eight man tag sees everyone get tagged in and get a little bit of offense in but the team of Blackjacks and LOD really take control keeping Billy Gunn in their corner. Even when he tags in Henry Godwinn it doesn’t do much good. When a brawl breaks out between all four teams, it appears the LOD is setting up Road Dogg for the Doomsday Device but Phinneas Godwinn clips Animal’s knee, allowing Henry to roll him up and pull the tights for the win.

Winners by Pinfall: The Godwinns and the New Age Outlaws
Grade: 67

We see a replay of earlier tonight when Stone Cold Steve Austin made his return and challenged the Rock to a match this Sunday.

Grade: 75

Backstage Farooq and the Rock are arguing. Farooq says all of this mess tonight is the Rock’s fault. D’Lo and Kama are hurt because of the Rock, Steve Austin is on the warpath because of the Rock, but tonight Farooq will clean up the mess and put Austin in his place and when he does, he’ll get the title shot this Sunday at Austin, not Rock. He then orders the Rock to follow him to the ring. Farooq marches off and the Rock just seethes at him.

Grade: 67

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler run down the final card for this Sunday’s In Your House: D-Generation X.

[

Grade: 88

Quote:
Non-Title Match

Austin and Farooq go to war as soon as the bell rings and show very good chemistry in the ring. The Rock at ringside just watches, and it seems every time Farooq has the upper hand he’s instructing the Rock to watch how it’s done. Eventually though Austin begins taking control and in the process the referee takes a bump. Farooq calls for a chair and the Rock slides one in, but he does it too hard and it slides past Farooq and right to Austin who picks it up and crowns Farooq. He makes the cover and locks eyes with the Rock as the ref comes to and counts to three.

Winner by Pinfall: Stone Cold Steve Austin
Grade: 80

Following the break, Commissioner Slaughter is in the ring and calls down Ken Shamrock and Shawn Michaels.

They come down and jaw at each other a little, but then Slaughter makes them sign their cage match contract. Michaels signs first but before Shamrock can sign, DX begins coming down the ramp.

Slaughter intercepts them and motions for security to assist. Shamrock signs and Michaels snaps out Sweet Chin Music but Shamrock catches his foot and flips him down into an ankle lock. Michaels is flipping out and DX charges in to help but the line of security meets them and holds them up. As the show goes off the air Michaels is frantically tapping as Shamrock looks crazed.
