WWF
*According to reports, Phineas Godwinn was the subject of a series of complaints after RAW this week with several performers complaining about his lack of selling.
*There are very high hopes heading into this weekend’s In Your House D-Generation X.
*The return of Steve Austin is being given the most credit for the win this week versus WCW in the front office though there are some in the locker room who would beg to differ.
*Rumors are swirling of some major happenings when the calendar changes to 1998.
*Philadelphia is a likely front runner to host WrestleMania XV in 1999.

Quote:
WCW
*After a crazy week of backstage issues, WCW was much calmer this week. Eric Bischoff allowed some airing of grievances before Monday Nitro and the mood improved.

*Alot of talk about how the WWF finally overtook Nitro for the first time in nearly two years but the feeling is with Hart, Hogan and Sting not appearing on the show and the WWF loading up their show for their go home, things will rebound this week.

*WCW is very high on Chris Jericho. Many in the locker room including Hollywood Hogan and Ric Flair see him as someone to watch going forward.

*WCW was very pleased with their special house show this past Saturday selling the Continental Airlines Arena completely out. WCW is on a roll of sell outs for their television and house shows. The main event of Flair & DDP vs The Outsiders was so well received, that we will see it again as the main event of Nitro this week.

*The night after Starrcade, the entire crew will hop on a chartered plane flying everyone to Atlanta Georgia for the first Nitro of 1998. That Nitro will originate from the Georgia Dome.

*There is talk of WCW trimming the fat in 1998 and also expanding their roster with more international talent.

Raw: 16.78 – 15,585,150 viewers.

An opening video package highlighting the matches is shown with a heavy influence of the DX tron video. We’re then taken to the announcer’s table where we see Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler joined by Jim Cornette.

They all hype the show and a moment later we hear Goldust’s theme.

Grade:96

Quote:

Goldust comes out first and when Vader’s music hits he stops on the ramp and then turns and holds his hand out. Goldust loses his mind when he sees who it is.

Marlena, puffing on her cigar follows Vader down the ramp and once the men are in the ring, the ref rings the bell.

The match begins with Vader dominating with his power and when Goldust finally gains some momentum its thanks to Luna’s distraction on the outside. Goldust spends the next several minutes hitting Vader with everything he has but Vader continues to get up. Finally Vader floors Goldust with a big clothesline, then another. Luna climbs onto the apron and Marlena follows her. They begin arguing and when Vader approaches followed by the referee. In the course of the argument Marlena’s cigar flies into the ring. As the ladies argue, Vader turns and Goldust, who had picked it up, jabs it into the big man’s already injured eye. Vader goes down holding his face, and instantly both women drop from the apron. Goldust makes the cover and get a three count.

Winner by Pinfall: Goldust
Grade:70

To the crowd’s shock and disgust Goldust leaves the ring with Luna on one arm and Marlena on the other. The trip head up the ramp as the referee tends to Vader.

Grade:63

Backstage, DX is seen in their locker room psyching Shawn Michaels up for his title defense against Ken Shamrock. Triple H says once he gets done with the Undertaker, they’ll take care of Shamrock. Tonight is their night.

Grade:73

Vince McMahon comes down to the ring, and says he first wants to welcome everyone to In Your House and he hopes they’re enjoying the show. Second, he decided the best way to tackle the elephant in the room is to address it straight with the WWF fans. A few weeks ago in Montreal……suddenly McMahon stops when familiar music hits.

Rowdy Roddy Piper makes his way to the ring, soaking up the fans’ reaction. When he gets in, McMahon suddenly puts on a smile and extends his hand but Piper just looks at it. Piper says he came back to where he belongs because he got tired of dealing with little birdies and he got tired of liars but right now he thinks he’s in the ring with the biggest liar of all. McMahon tries to play it off but clearly looks annoyed. Piper says that what happened in Montreal is a damned shame. Worse than that it was disrespectful to the business he’s loved and what’s paid his bills and helped send his kids to school. Piper says some people have suggested he not use the name Bret Hart but it’s a live mic so what the hell. He grills McMahon on why he screwed Bret Hart. McMahon tries to give the ‘Bret screwed Bret’ reply but Piper pulls the mic away. He asks why he’s on the brink of bankruptcy. McMahon tries to deny it, but Piper again pulls the mic away and now McMahon looks hot. He steps in and puts his hand on the mic but we can still hear where he tells Piper to ‘watch it pal’ and suddenly Piper gets an intense look in his eyes and says if McMahon doesn’t let go he’s gonna be a one armed promoter. McMahon backs down and Piper says that he’s now home for good and he’s gonna be watching, very closely, and if he ever thinks the business he loves is being disrespected again there won’t be any lawsuits and there won’t be any screwjobs. There will be just an old fashioned fight and if you don’t think he’s still got it in him, just try’em. He says it looking McMahon right in the eyes before dropping the mic and leaving an angry looking owner in the ring.

Grade:83

We go to a pretaped video of Paul Bearer in a barely lit room. He warns the Undertaker that for his own safety he shouldn’t show tonight because Bearer will not be held responsible for what Kane will do. The lighting in the room subtly changes enough for us to see the form of Kane behind Bearer.
Grade:83

The two teams are brawling before the bell even sounds. Once the referee gets control, it settles into a standard tag match but the challengers are constantly on the defensive and the LOD show their dominance. When Henry gets knocked off the apron, Animal delivers a powerslam to Phineas. Then showing some brute strength, he lifts him up on his shoulders where Hawk flies, delivering the Doomsday Device.

Winners by Pinfall and still WWF Tag Team Champions: The Legion of Doom
Grade:73

LOD stop at the top of the stage and turn to the fans, raising their belts but a moment later the New Age Outlaws run out with chairs, smashing both Hawk and Animal across the back. As the champs go down, the outlaws go to town, hitting them over and over before officials force them away.

Grade:63

A vignette is shown of Mark Henry, highlighting his incredible strength. In the video he’s shown pulling a call by a chain, then flipping it over onto its roof. The video ends with Henry smiling and a graphic calling him the World’s Strongest Man.

Grade:58

Michael Cole is with Stone Cold Steve Austin. He asks Austin what his plan is tonight in his championship defense against the Rock. Austin says this title, while nice, means nothing to him. He was thrown in a trunk, he was taken out into who knows where, fed garbage and babysat by two pieces of trash. So if he wins tonight, great. If he loses, who cares? But one thing is for sure. The Rock is gonna get his ass whipped tonight and that’s the bottom line cause Stone Cold said so!

Grade:89

Backstage Vince McMahon is fuming to Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco. He rants about how Piper embarrassed him and ruined his chance to get the fans on his side. How nobody understands him and how he’s sick and tired of being the bad guy. His associates try and soothe his concerns but it doesn’t seem to do much.

Grade:74

Quote:

Jarrett is very arrogant to begin the match but the first time Johnson throws him to the mat the smirk is wiped off his face. Johnson seems to be in full control meanwhile Cornette constantly complaining that Johnson isn’t wrestling. Jarrett shares in those frustrations ducking out of the ring several times until Johnson gives chase. Jarrett ducks back into the ring and Johnson follows. Jarrett grabs the ref, claiming to have an eye injury. As the referee checks him, Cornette leaves the announcer’s table and climbs onto the apron. Johnson dismisses Cornette but when he turns his back, Cornette whacks him with his tennis racket. Johnson stumbles forward, and Jarrett steps in quickly, delivering a Reverse Russian Leg Sweep for the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Jeff Jarrett
Grade:69

Jarrett and Cornette are ecstatic as they go back up the ramp, while Johnson clears the cobwebs in the ring.

Grade:70

Backstage, the Nation is in their dressing area. Farooq is giving instructions for how they’ll handle the match tonight against Stone Cold Steve Austin when the Rock interrupts and says this is his match and he’ll give the orders. He tells them when he signals them, they come down, take Austin out and then it’ll be 1-2-3 and a new Intercontinental champion. All the while, Farooq is in the back looking none-too-pleased.

Grade:63

[We catch a glimpse of Ken Shamrock in his locker room. He’s staring down at his hands as he sits on a bench and looks completely focused. Lawler mentions that sometimes silence is scarier than acting like a crazy man.]

Grade:74

Quote:
Boiler Room Brawl

Mero is outside the door to the boiler room and doesn’t want to go in but he begrudgingly agrees and enters. Once he’s in, we see from inside the room. He looks terrified and jumps at every noise. He carefully looks around and begins to relax when Mankind suddenly appears, hitting him in the back with a pipe. What follows is like someone locked in a cage with a wild animal. Mankind is relentless, using every weapon he can get his hands on. Mero tries fighting back using his boxing skills but every time he lands a knockout punch, Mankind keeps getting up, seemingly enjoying it. Finally he goes for a wild punch, Mankind ducks it and hits Mero with the Mandible Claw. Mero quickly goes unconscious and the referee who’d been standing by signals an end to the match.

Winner: Mankind
Grade:71

Following the three count, Mankind scoots away from Mero, clawing at his own hair. Finally he blurts out “have a nice day!” and continues to claw with a crazed smile.

Grade:76

Backstage, Michael Cole is standing by with Jeff Jarrett and Jim Cornette. Cornette grabs the mic from Cole and says he told everyone that Jeff Jarrett was the future of wrestling. Not crappy sports entertainment but wrestling. And he will put his skills on display tomorrow night live on the USA network when he issues an open challenge to anyone so he can show he’s the greatest wrestler on God’s green earth.

Grade:59

[A video package is shown to remind the audience how we got here with the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin from the kidnapping to Austin’s return this week.]

Grade:82

Quote:

Austin comes down the ramp first but he’s not half way down before the Rock runs down and attacks him from behind. They brawl around the ring before the match begins and its all Rock in the beginning but Austin fights back but before you can blink, Rock hits the Rock Bottom for the 1…2..kickout. Austin barely beats the count and the Rock goes back to attacking him, but again Austin shows how tough he is by fighting back and now it’s the Rock on his heels as Austin goes on the attack. The Rock, feeling like this is slipping away waves to the back and out comes the Nation.

But half way down the ramp Farooq holds his arms out to the side and stops D’Lo and Kama. The Rock is wide eyed, but Farooq just shakes his head. When Rock turns around Austin is all over him, ending the match with a boot to the stomach, two birds in the face and a stunner which flips Rock half way across the room. Austin makes the cover and hooks the leg for the win.

Winner by Pinfall and still WWF Intercontinental Champion: Stone Cold Steve Austin

Grade:94

[As the Rock scowls on the outside, Austin climbs the ropes and holds the belt up, celebrating his victory.]

Grade:76

[Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler mention that live tomorrow night on RAW we’ll see a four corners tag match to determine the number one contenders to the Legion of Doom. Lawler makes mention of the Outlaws attack tonight and Ross says LOD will be watching very carefully.

Grade:48

[A replay is shown of the fight between Triple H and the Undertaker on Monday night and the sudden appearance of Kane and how he threw the Undertaker through a window.]

Grade:82

Quote:

An even match from the start, Triple H hits the Undertaker with everything in his arsenal, getting as a few two counts but then the Undertaker turns it on, sending the battle to the outside. He hits some of his usual moves but in the process of walking the ropes, he hits the referee when Tripe H pulls him in front. Triple H tries for a pedigree after a kick to the gut but Taker backdrops him, then snatches him around the throat and delivers a big chokeslam. The Undertaker can only take a moment’s breath before the stage explodes in fire and Kane comes stomping down to the ring.

He climbs in and we have a face to face showdown. Suddenly without warning, he scoops up the Undertaker and delivers a Tombstone. He grabs Triple H and puts him on top of the Undertaker and leaves the ring. Chyna aggressively shakes the referee and he comes to, to count a slow three count,

Winner by Pinfall: Triple H
Grade:84

Kane climbs back into the ring as Chyna pulls Triple H out by his feet. Bearer shouts instructions which distracts Kane just a moment as the Undertaker sits up and gets to his feet . Kane turns and sees him and charges. The Undertaker ducks the clothesline, and swivels, hitting Kane with one of his own which sends Kane over the ropes, but he lands on his feet. He wants to climb back in, but Bearer stops him and urges him to retreat for now but the brothers don’t lose an intense stare down even as Kane walks back up the ramp.

Grade:79

DX exits their locker room but Commissioner Slaughter is standing right there.

He says Michaels match is up next but the rest of them will have the best seats in the house right there in their locker room. The other members go nuts as Michaels contemplates that he’s on his own. Slaughter then tells them if sees any of the three at ringside, Michaels will not only lose, but he’ll strip him of the title. Slaughter walks away with a grin.

Grade:69

Grade:91

[A video package is shown to hype the main event tonight between Shawn Michaels and Ken Shamrock and that match is next!]

Grade:87

Quote:

Michaels appears wary as he enters the cage but Shamrock looks right at home. The champion tries to keep his distance during the early moments but once Shamrock gets in close it becomes takedown after takedown but Michaels manages to escape without much harm until Shamrock corners him and begins doing damage with strikes. He sends Michaels into the cage, then running him to the other side. He goes for a cover but Michaels kicks out. Shamrock continues to focus on Michaels’ leg, trying to soften him up for the ankle lock but when he charges into a corner, Michaels moves and Shamrock hits the turnbuckles hard. When he turns around, Michaels snaps some Sweet Chin Music. He tries to climb the cage but Shamrock climbs after him and kicks him off but seems to favor his leg right after. Michaels falls and Shamrock begins to climb but doesn’t appear to have much strength in his leg as he pulls himself up. Michaels begins crawling to the cage door and it becomes a race. Shamrock crests the top of the cage, as Michaels reaches the door and begins pulling himself through. The match reaches its climax as Shamrock climbs down and with a split screen on the broadcast we see Shawn Michaels fall to the floor mere seconds before Shamrock hits the ground, and he seems to aggravate that leg injury in the process.

Winner and still WWF Champion: Shawn Michaels

Grade:88

As Shawn Michaels pulls himself up to his feet, barely able to stand, the crowd pops as someone hops the barrier separating the fans from the ring.

Owen Hart blasts Michaels from behind after dropping a bag and bangs his head off the cage, then picking him up and shoving him back through the door. Hart then grabs the bag and follows him inside before turning to the cage door and opens the bag removing a chain and a lock which he quickly uses on the cage door. Michaels is beginning to come to when Hart attacks again, knocking him down and launching right hands down at him.

DX runs down to the ring frantically trying to get into the cage door but no matter how much they try they can’t get the door open. Hart is smirking at them as he puts Michaels in the Sharpshooter. Triple H tries to begin climbing the cage but Hart drops the hold, runs over and dropkicks him through the cage sending him to the floor. Meanwhile Rude has found a set of bolt cutters. As DX cuts through the chain, Hart climbs up the cage and when they enter to check on Michaels he crests it and climbs down. DX is furious but Hart is all smiles on the ramp and mouths ‘this isn’t over’ as the show goes off the air.

The show opens with a still photo review of last night’s In Your House with voiceover calls by Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler

Grade: 88

As the show opens D-Generation X is already in the ring and they don’t look to be in a good mood. Michaels says that he thought that after Survivor Series he thought they had cleaned out the Hart stench but he was wrong. One Hart remains and he chose to attack Michaels from behind because he’s no more of a man than his big brother that Michaels ran down south. Well Owen Hart is now on notice. Someday, sometime, he’ll feel the fury of D-Generation X, and then he can join his overrated brother in the nursing home.

Grade: 84

Before the match begins but all the competitors are in the ring, Sunny comes out, slowly walking around the ring and taking more notes before blowing a few kisses and leaving.

Grade: 64

Quote:

A pretty rough and tumble match which sees all four teams control a portion of it but the Outlaws show themselves to be both crafty and devious. As Billy Gunn is being throttled by Kurrigan and looks to be out of it, Road Dogg calls Kurrigan over and when the big man responds he quickly tags himself in and makes the pinfall…on his own partner. The referee makes the count of the unusual pairing of legal men and hits a three count before anyone else figures out what’s happening.

Winner by Pinfall and new #1 Contenders: New Age Outlaws
Grade: 67

Michael Cole is standing by with Owen Hart. Hart says he’s the sole surviving Hart in the WWF for a reason. He had his chance to leave but he wants revenge. His heart is black with hatred for DX and he doesn’t care about their threats. He’s quickly interrupted by security who tells him Vince McMahon has ordered him to be removed from the building for his own safety tonight. He looks annoyed but goes along with them.

Grade: 76

A replay from last night is shown of the end of the main event and then several slo-mo replays of Ken Shamrock falling just a few seconds behind Shawn Michaels got to the floor. Jim Ross tells us Shamrock sustained a knee injury and will be out of action for an unknown amount of time.

Grade: 77

DX is backstage when Commissioner Slaughter comes up. He congratulates Michaels on his victory last night but says he’s due to defend his European championship. So tonight it will be a triple threat when he defends it against two men who had big victories last night too: Goldust and Mankind. When he leaves Michaels looks ready to pull his hair out.

Grade: 81

Quote:

A matchup of two powerhouses, Ahmed lays into Kane with everything he has but every time Kane sits up after a moment. Johnson begins to grow frustrated and makes a mistake, allowing Kane to floor him with an uppercut, then he takes over the match, following instructions from Paul Bearer on the outside. Climbing to the top he flies off with a massive clothesline before scooping Johnson up like a child and delivers a Tombstone for the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Kane
Grade:79

Following the match Paul Bearer gets in the ring and says that all last night proved was that the Undertaker is a coward. He won't fight his brother face to face but he'll cheap shot him at a moment's notice but what else should we expect from someone who murdered his parents and burned his brother. Someday Undertaker when that bell sounds you'll meet your demise at the hands of Kane!

Grade: 81

We see three directors chairs with Luna, Goldust, and Marlena sitting with their backs to the camera. Luna's looks like its almost been set on fire, Marlena's looks pristenely golden, and Goldust's is a mixture of the two. Goldust begins reciting "Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth, Gary Cooper, Pride of the Yankees, 1942." He goes on to remark that its true you don't know what you have until you lose it. Now he's regained the lost part of himself but it isn't who he is entirely. No, there are two sides to the coin. There is flawless beauty (he turns to Marlena) and flawless entropy (he turns to Luna). Now he is whole and everyone in the World Wrestling Federation will learn to never forget the name of......"Goldust!" Luna shrieks out in her raspy voice.

Grade: 62

Jeff Jarrett and Jim Cornette are in the ring and they call out anyone in the back who has the guts to step in the ring with the greatest wrestler in the world.

Quote:

Jarrett's opponent catches both himself and Cornette off guard but the fans definitely know who this guy is and if nothing else Van Dam is constant energy and action. Where Jarrett wants to slow things down and be methodical in his wrestling, Van Dam's offense is undeterred motion and he even gets a two count following a rolling senton. Jarrett however takes control with a cheap shot hidden from the ref and goes to work on Van Dam, finally his Reverse Russian Leg Sweep for the victory.

Winner by Pinfall: Jeff Jarrett
Grade: 71

After the match Cornette gets on the mic at ringside and runs down Van Dam and his 'bingo hall cronies who wouldn't know a wristlock from a wristwatch.' The duo leave but young Van Dam has made an impression.

Grade: 60

Backstage in the Nation's dressing room the Rock wants to know why they didn't help him last night as he planned and Farooq says that's exactly it. His plan. The Nation only listens to Farooq and if the Rock wants to continue as a member he'll do just that and know his role. Tonight they face the DOA in a six man tag and the Rock isn't going to be a part of it. No, he's going to sit his ass down like a good little boy and watch men handle their business. Farooq is the first one out with the Rock bringing up the rear and by the look on his face he's not too happy.

Grade: 70

Quote:

Standard brawling type match. The Rock does as instructed and sits ringside, staying out of the affair as if he's in time-out. The Nation uses good teamwork to gain the advantage and they never get it back, with the finish coming when Farooq hits the Dominator on Skull for the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Farooq, Kama, and D'Lo Brown
Grade: 63

After the match the Rock is called into the ring and the Nation gives their salute but the Rock's is late in delivering it and its clear his heart isn't in it tonight.

Grade: 73

Backstage Michael Cole introduces Stone Cold Steve Austin but the Intercontinental champ throws Cole out of the picture. He says that last night he settled all doubt in kicking the hell out of the Rock and tonight he wants to whip someone’s ass. So anyone, any time, step right up and get fu….suddenly Patterson and Brisco show up, waving their arms.

Patterson says Austin can’t say that. Brisco says Austin is out of control. Austin seems to take their words to heart and says that he wants to thank them both because now he’s got two asses to whip! Before they can reach Austin launches himself at both of them. Stomping Patterson, then grabbing Brisco and throwing him over a table, before flipping off Patterson and hitting a stunner. He looks around at his carnage and smiles, before telling them to say hi to Vince and walking off. All we hear is both of them groaning off camera.

Grade: 90

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler talk up the next big WWF Event, the Royal Rumble coming next month, live on Pay Per View

Grade: 88

It's time for the main event but Shawn Michaels walks down to the ring and its clear he's not in his ring gear. He walks up to Commissioner Slaughter who's standing in the ring and smirks while chomping on his gum. When Slaughter reaches for the belt , Michaels drops it at his feet, steps back, and gives him a crotch chop. Before Slaughter can say anything, Michaels dumps out of the ring and takes a seat ringside, telling Ross and Lawler he's the WWF Champion and nobody tells him what to do, so Slaughter can take the European championship and suck it.

Grade: 75

Quote:

Goldust jumps Mankind before the bell rings and the match spills to the outside where Mankind's unusual tactics give him the advantage. When they get back in the ring, Luna grabs Mankind's leg, distracting him enough that Goldust is able to hit a running knee in the back followed by a swinging neckbreaker. Mankind fights back, almost getting the Mandible Claw on Goldust but Goldust fights it off, and gets behind Mankind, driving a knee into his lower back then hitting the Curtain Call. That, along with his feet on the second rope, give him the win and the title.

Winner by Pinfall and new WWF European Champion: Goldust
Grade: 84

Goldust rolls out of the ring, celebrating his win and Michals continues to look smug when someone comes from behind the announcers and attacks him. They're in a hooded sweatshirt but we quickly see it's Owen Hart!

Hart pummels Michaels, banging him off the announcer's table, and the ring post, busting him open.

Suddenly as DX arrives, Hart jumps off Michaels and back into the crowd. Michaels is down, bleeding, and looks stunned and Hart wears a big smile.

[We go to a interview conducted by Mike Tenay at the home of The Giant. The Giant shows a cast over his right hand and says that is the result of Kevin Nash smashing his hand with a baseball bat last week. But Nash messed up because he didn’t get the job done. If you want to take down a real life fire breathing Giant, you better put a bullet in his head. Nash did not do that and so what is left is a wounded but pissed off animal. And that animal is coming squarely for Kevin Nash. The WCW Executive Committee has informed the Giant that Kevin Nash is contractually obligated to fight at Starrcade and they have granted The Giant’s wish to be the one to tear him apart. Nash didn’t get the job done but come Starrcade, the Giant will. His gun is loaded, Nash is in his sights… “and Kevin…I won’t miss.”

[When Nitro returns, Tony Schiavone is in the ring with a man in a suit and with J.J. Dillon. JJ tells Tony that he needs Eric Bischoff to come out to the ring right now. Bischoff’s music hits and Eric comes out and he bad mouths JJ saying he doesn’t have the authority to call him out. JJ agrees but says Eric wants to hear this right now. Bischoff notices the man in the suit and says “who the hell are you?”

The man says his name is Chester Walther and he is the attorney for Gene Okerlund. In his hands is the motion that he will file on behalf of Mr. Okerlund tomorrow morning in the Municipal Court of Atlanta. This motion is a lawsuit against Turner Broadcasting System, Time Warner, World Championship Wrestling, Ted Turner, Larry Pfohl otherwise known as Lex Luger and Eric Bischoff in the amount of $100 million. This lawsuit will be filed to rectify emotional and physical damages from the assault of Mr. Okerlund by Mr. Pfohl as a result of the un-safe working environment of World Championship Wrestling, conditions allowed by its President – Eric Bischoff.

Before Bischoff can respond, Larry Zbyszko gets up from the announce booth and walks to the ring. He tells Eric to calm down, WCW and Bischoff and everyone else does not need to be sued because Larry has spoken to Gene and an agreement has been reached where Gene will not go through with this lawsuit if Eric agrees to Larry’s challenge for Starrcade. The lawyer confirms that against his advice and counsel, Gene has decided that so long as Eric faces Mr. Zbyszko at Starrcade, Mr. Okerlund will not file this suit.
Eric is pained and furious but says that he has no choice so, yes he will agree to the match. However, Eric wants one stipulation. Larry laughs and says “anything” and Eric says – he will agree to this match but when he wins…the nWo gets full control and ownership of WCW Monday Nitro. Larry says yes but JJ says that is not Larry’s decision and that he can’t possibly give an answer to that question without talking to the WCW Executive Committee. All parties agree to a one week delay. The executive committee will either authorize Eric vs Larry with Nitro on the line at Starrcade or the lawsuit will move forward. JJ promises to have an answer in seven days, Live from Charlotte.

Match #3: Matt Hardy vs Eddie Guerrero for the WCW Cruiserweight Title

A back and forth match early and Matt gets some good offense in which stuns the champ. But soon, Eddie has taken control and he chops Matt in the corner screaming “this is for you, Rey” each time he does. He hits the 3 Amigo’s triple suplex and the Frog Splash and it’s another successful title defense.

Winner and still WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Eddie Guerrero

[Following the match, Eddie gets on the microphone and runs down Rey. He talks about how no one has seen him in over a month and how Rey’s been hobbling around on one knee in Tijuana drinking Tequila to mask the pain while Eddie has been showing the world what a real champion is made of. As he does this, the crowd comes to life because Rey Mysterio walks out to the ring from the back. Eddie doesn’t see him as Rey gets into the ring and fake hobbles around on one leg before tapping Eddie on his shoulder. Eddie turns around and turns white as a ghost as Rey is on him with rights and lefts and clothesline’s Eddie over the ropes. Rey climbs up top and leaps off in a cross body block and beats the hell out of the champion. Referees arrive and Rey is finally peeled off as Eddie crawls away.]

Hollywood Hogan comes out to the ring with Eric bowing to him all the way. Hogan asks the crowd can they feel it in the air? The sense of inevitability has to be overtaking everyone because in just under three weeks, WCW will see their big hero die. Earlier tonight WCW took cheap shots against the nWo but did you see Sting? No, you did not. He hid in the rafters because he has no spine. The fact is he don’t want none of Hollywood and Eric Bischoff says that Sting’s representatives have been begging WCW to let him out of this match because he’s yellow from head to toe. But Sting there is no getting out of this match at Starrcade…Hollywood Hogan is going to rip Sting from post to post. He’s gonna bounce his skinny butt all over the Nation’s Capital and when he’s done, there will be nothing left of Sting.

And now on to Ric Flair, Hollywood has spoken to Curt Hennig and he has given Hollywood permission to commence the retirement party for Flair just a few weeks early. Flair wants Hogan in Charlotte, that’s cool with the nWo. What’s gonna happen is real simple, next week, Hollywood will take Ric Flair apart but he will leave just enough left for Curt to bury inside the Steel Cage at Starrcade. And once Sting falls to Hollywood and Ric Flair falls to Perfection and the Macho Man retires DDP, what will WCW have left? Nothing. And then the era of the New World Order will really begin.

Hogan and Bischoff pose and leave the ring gloating. Hogan vs Flair is on for next week in Charlotte.]

[Bret’s music hits as Buffalo comes alive. The Hitman comes out to a chorus of cheers and he slaps the fans hands when he comes down to the ring. He gets in the ring and he says that the course of his life has changed a lot over the last 14 months. Fourteen months ago the Hitman had a choice to make and to be quite frank, he made the wrong choice. Instead of coming here to WCW in October of 1996, Bret Hart chose loyalty to a parasite over what would’ve been the right career move. He chose to believe the word of a promoter who had duped people time and time again and spit them out when he was done with them and in doing so allowed a disease to infect not just the promotion up north but it infected WCW. That infection here manifests itself in the Wolfpac: Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and their loud mouth stoner friend, Syxx. Had the Hitman made a better choice, WCW never would’ve had to endure what Hart endured for years in New York when these bozos were running around up there.

But perhaps this is the chance to rectify past mistakes because the Hitman is here in WCW now. He is here on a mission and it is to rid WCW of the cancer that is those three losers. He is here to defend honor and tradition and what’s good about professional wrestling. He is here to be a hero to his fans and fight for what’s right and that starts at Starrcade and it starts with Scott Hall.

The Hitman accepts his challenge but this crusade will not end in Washington, D.C. It will not end until WCW is free of this cancer and Hall can guarantee that he will be Excellently Executed by the Best There Is, The Best There Was and The Best That There Ever Will Be. ]

Eventually Hall goes for the Outsider’s Edge but Page reverses it into the Diamond Cutter and Hall and Page crawl to their partners. They each tag in and Flair ducks under a Nash boot and chops the hell out of Kevin while kicking the big man in the knee and thigh area. Flair finally gets him down and goes for the Figure Four but Hall hits him from behind. DDP is back in and he and Hall brawl to the floor while Nash prepares to jacknife Nash, but Ric drops down and low blows him with an uppercut and locks on the figure four. Hogan and Bischoff start backing up the aisle and don’t see Bret Hart come out from the back. Bischoff realizes it first and Hart decks Eric as Hogan turns around. Hogan begs off but Bret grabs a hold of him and throws him back into the ring…right at the feet of Sting. The rest of WCW keeps the nWo out of the ring as Hogan slowly gets to his feet and is met with lefts and rights by Sting. WWF:

*WWF released announcer Kevin Kelly this week. Jim Cornette will assume his color commentary duties for Heat and Shotgun Saturday Night.

*A big announcement is coming this Monday night regarding a special television event to be held later this month.

*Roddy Piper isn’t likely to be on-air very much and will be used more as he was during In Your House.

*It is assumed several new performers will be debuting on WWF television ahead of the Royal Rumble.

*Shawn Michaels has been actively turning the locker room against Owen Hart I hopes he’ll go join his brother in WCW according to sources.

*At In Your House, Vader broke his toe, and the injury seen to Ken Shamrock was legit as he injured his left knee though the severity is unknown. It must not be too bad however as Shamrock informed WWF he wishes to take an MMA fight in the near future which may put his Wrestlemania availability in jeopardy.

*Barry Windham tweeked his hamstring during the Blackjacks tag match on Heat. There are rumors of the team breaking up as well.

*In Your House: D-Generation X scored a 1.35 buyrate including 540,308 buys.

*In reaction to WCW’s in-house developmental territory, WWF is looking to follow suit in some way.
Quote:
WCW:

*Raw once again beat Nitro in overall viewers this week but WCW is not panicking. They feel the discrepancy is due to the WWF having more television clearances internationally than WCW. Time Warner has blocked recent efforts from WCW to expand onto potential competitors networks overseas. Eric Bischoff is said to be very frustrated with the lack of Time Warner's penetration into the oversea's market and handcuffing WCW from expanding.

*Starrcade looks to be a legitimate sellout in two weeks from the brand new MCI Center in Washington, D.C.

*WCW will run another "Road to Starrcade" super-house show this Saturday from the Cow Palace in San Francisco, California which is also the site of SuperBrawl in February. The show will be headlined by Ric Flair vs Randy Savage.

*Bret Hart is not expected to perform in the ring for WCW until Starrcade where he will make his in ring debut against Scott Hall.

*WCW recently told the city of Sturgis, South Dakota that they will not be returning to the annual Sturgis bike gathering this August for Road Wild. No word on if the pay per view itself is cancelled or if they will hold it in a different location.

*WCW Spring Break Out 98 will originate on Monday Week 3 in March of 1998 from Panama City Beach, Florida with a Live Nitro at Club La Vela. Tickets will go on sale in January.

*WCW has met with representatives from multiple cities to be the host city for Starrcade 98. That event will air next December and will be the 15th anniversary of the "Grandaddy of Them All".

*WCW will be evaluating their broadcast teams after Starrcade.
Quote:
ECW:

*Many are wondering how long ECW can hold on. Though still fiscally viable they were the target of both major companies this week in a series of top name talent acquisitions. WWF & WCW seemed to be trying to out do each other in raids on the little promotion that could.

WCW Monday Nitro - Episode 118
Monday Week 3, December 1997 - Independence Arena, Charlotte, North Carolina - *SOLD OUT*

[Nitro opens up to a recap video of Flair’s challenge for Charlotte and Hogan accepting and the final brawl that saw Hollywood Hogan tapping out in the Scorpion Deathlock from Sting.]

Grade: 81

============================

[The broadcast cuts to the Monday Nitro opening graphics package and then inside Charlotte’s Independence Arena as the pyro shoots off and WCW Monday Nitro is on the air just 13 days away from Starrcade 97.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and he is with James J Dillon of the WCW Executive Committee. JJ says that the WCW Executive Committee has met for most of the last week in consideration of the proposal by Eric Bischoff that the only way he will agree to face Larry Zbyszko at Starrcade is for WCW to put Nitro on the line. The executive committee is not happy that the company is put in this situation. JJ is not happy that this is a choice they have to make. But he has spoken with Larry Zbyszko who has asked JJ to trust him and give him this chance (the camera pans to Larry watching who simply nods and says “trust me, JJ”) so the WCW Executive Committee has decided….the answer to Bischoff’s request….is….approved.

At Starrcade Larry Zbyszko will go one-on-one with Eric Bischoff and the winner of the match will own Monday Nitro going forward. JJ says WCW is placing its faith and trust in Larry and he can only hope that it is a trust well placed. ]

Match #3: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Jushin Thunder Liger

This is a high flying and fast paced match that goes during a commercial break. Just as Nitro comes out of the commercial, Rey jumps on the ropes and goes for the Hurricanrana but his knee is tweaked and he falls to the mat. Jushin starts working on the knee with a half Boston crab and nearly gets a submission before he drops Rey with a brainbuster and goes up top for the top rope guillotine leg drop. Rey moves and Jushin crashes to the mat. Rey springboards to the top rope again and this time his knee holds as he hits the Hurricanrana for the 3 count.

Winner: Rey Mysterio Jr.

Jushin Liger tries to defend Rey but Eddie backdrops him over the ropes. Eddie levels Rey with punches on the ground and hits the Frog Splash. With Rey out, Eddie beats his fist across his chest and looks up before raising his Cruiserweight Title.]

[We go to a live shot of the announce booth where Tony, Mike & Larry put over the match that Rey just had with Liger and how despicable Eddie’s actions were. They then talk about the fact that Bret Hart is not here tonight and put over that Scott Hall will kick off Hour Number 2 when we retur….
Eric Bischoff has come out and he is walking over to the announce booth. He runs down Larry promising that in two weeks, live from the Georgia Dome, the world will see the birth of nWo Monday Nitro with Hollywood Hogan standing supreme. He tells Larry there is not a damned thing that he can do about it. Larry then takes off his headset and gets nose to nose with Eric who slaps him in the face before running toward the entrance set as Larry, furious, pursues.

As Eric backs away up the ramp to the entrance way, Syxx, attacks Larry from behind. Soon Hall and Hennig and Nash are out and they all beat down Larry. With Bischoff giving direction, Nash flings Larry directly into the metal “WCW” set pieces and one of the W’s falls over. He rolls Hogan in but Bischoff grabs Flair's foot and receives a stiff chop for his efforts. Back in the ring, Hogan nails Ric with a axehandle to the back and slams him. Soon he sends Ric into the ropes and hits the big boot. He goes for the leg drop but Ric is up and chops Hogan as he bounces off the ropes. He wrenches Hogan's knee and locks in the figure four.

This brings out Hennig who Flair decks. Syxx is also out and Flair decks him. Hall is out and grabs hold of Ric while Hogan charges but Flair moves out of the way and Hogan crashes into Hall. Ric rolls up Hollywood but Bischoff is distracting the referee.

Nash comes out and Flair never sees him and eats a big boot. Hogan hits the legdrop and Bischoff lets the referee see the cover...1..2..3.

Winner: Hollywood Hulk Hogan

Grade: 59
============================

[The nWo start trying to decimate Flair and really begin picking him apart. Harlem Heat comes out to save but they are soon taken out. Same too for the Steiners. Some more WCW stars come out and the nWo are battling. As this goes on, Sting, again drops from the rafters and gets into the ring and fights for WCW. Down goes Savage. Down goes Bischoff. Flair is back up and goes for Hennig but Flair gets taken down by Syxx and Nash. As Sting goes to help the Nature Boy, Hogan drills him from behind with his own bat that he lost in the mele. Sting falls to the ground and Hall hands Hogan a chair who proceeds to slam it over Sting's back each time he tries to get up. With Flair being assaulted in a corner, Nash and Hall hold Sting down as Hollywood nails the leg drop two times and covers Sting. Bischoff makes the count..1..2..3.

In perhaps the darkest night of the battle between WCW & the nWo, Sting is out and Flair and the rest of WCW are out while the nWo celebrates as Nitro goes off the air. ]

A video is shown highlighting last week’s episode of RAW focusing mainly on Shawn Michaels giving up his European Championship, how Goldust won it versus Mankind, and how Owen Hart attacked Michaels for the second time in twenty-four hours.
Grade: 94

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome the audience to the show and highlight how exciting it will be. In Non-Title action Stone Cold Steve Austin takes on Henry Godwinn, two members of the nation Kama And D’lo will take on the Headbangers, and in the main event Triple H versus the Undertaker in an In Your House rematch. Plus we’re told that Vince McMahon will have a major announcement.
Grade: 76

Quote:

Mero is very full of himself and pays the price early on when the veteran Vega takes him to task for it. It’s only a straight right hand from Mero, unseen by the referee, which turns the tables. Mero keeps the advantage, hitting an TKO a few minutes later for the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Marc Mero
Grade: 59

Following his victory Mero quickly grows annoyed with Sable and the attention she’s getting from the crowd which he thinks should belong to him and grabs her by the arm, all but pulling her from the ring.
Grade: 65

We go to a vignette for Mark Henry, where we see him working out in the gym lifting incredible amounts of weights. He’s again referred to as the World’s Strongest Man and we’re told he’ll be arriving soon.
Grade: 60

Backstage Vince McMahon is standing by in his office. He says that after much consideration he’s decided to bring back a staple of WWF programming, and he’s very happy to announce that in two weeks, live on the USA network, we’ll see the long anticipated return of Saturday Night’s Main Event!
Grade: 77

Backstage, we see the New Age Outlaws but they’re dressed up like the Legion of Doom with face paint and the spiked shoulder pads. Road Dogg does most of the talking referencing the LOD as dinosaurs several times and saying at Royal Rumble, they’re going to be known as the New Age Asteroids because they’re going to make sure the dinosaurs go extinct.
Grade: 72

The members of the Nation waste no time in seizing control of the match and tag often with Kama’s power singling out Mosh and D’lo keeping him in enemy territory. Kama sets up Thrasher with a running clothesline and then tags D’lo who hits a frogsplash for the win.

Winners by Pinfall: D’Lo Brown and Kama
Grade: 58

Backstage, the Jackal is berating Kurrgan for his ‘stupidity’ last week allowing the New Age Outlaws to win the fatal fourway tag match. He tells Kurrgan if it ever happens again he’ll have to deal with the Jackal himself.
Grade: 55

We’re then taken to Commissioner Slaughter’s office. DX enters and Michaels demands to know what Slaughter is going to do about Owen Hart. Slaughter says he’s thought about that and he’s decided that if Michaels wants revenge so bad he’ll have it in two weeks at Saturday Night’s Main Event when he defends the WWF Championship against Hart. But Triple H isn’t left out. That night he’ll have a match too. A Falls Count Anywhere match against Mankind.
Grade: 73

As the War Zone begins, Vince McMahon comes down to the ring and says that the actions last week of Stone Cold Steve Austin are reprehensible and they will not happen again….

At the sound of breaking glass the crowd gets to their feet as Austin storms the ring, getting in McMahon’s face. The owner backs off some but tells Austin he expects more out of his champions. McMahon leaves the ring but while he’s still on the apron, Austin runs the ropes, knocking the owner to the ground. Austin smirks a little but McMahon is obviously infuriated. Officials keep him from going back into the ring for his own good.

Grade: 88

Non-Title Match

Austin goes right after Godwinn as soon as the bell rings, keeping on the pressure. Godwinn takes control half way through the match, getting a close two count but Austin gets a boot on the ropes. Godwinn makes a mistake however when he whips Austin into the ropes and telegraphs a backdrop. Austin stops, kicks him in the face, and then quickly in the stomach, putting him in perfection position for a Stone Cold Stunner. That gets the three count.

Winner by Pinfall: Stone Cold Steve Austin
Grade: 82

Following the victory, Austin climbs the ropes and signals for a few beers to be thrown his way as he celebrates.
Grade: 77

Backstage Shawn Michaels and Triple H are approached by Michael Cole. He asks them about Commissioner Slaughter’s announcements tonight. Michaels says that for once he agrees with one of Slaughter’s decisions. Owen Hart has been nothing but a coward but he’s going to walk into that ring as the champ and he’s walking out the champ and then Owen can head down south with the rest of the failed Harts. Triple H adds that after he takes care of the Undertaker tonight, he’ll beat Mankind within an inch of his life and then everyone will know that D-Generation X still rules the WWF.
Grade: 87

Quote:

The Blackjacks seem to be on different pages throughout the match allowing the Truth Commission to keep control during the match, and Kurrgan puts it away with a big double handed chokeslam on Windham.

Winners by Pinfall: The Truth Commission
Grade: 42

After the match, the Blackjacks break out into a very vocal argument, blaming each other for the loss and arguing all the way up the ramp.
Grade: 37

[i]We see Goldust sitting in the same director’s chair from last week, with his back to the camera. He’s watching a film replaying his European Championship victory against Mankind. When we see the three count, he turns to look over his shoulder. Half his face is painted the normal gold, the other half black, and he simply asks, ‘Who’s ready for a sequel?’
Grade: 61

A promotional video is shown for next month’s Royal Rumble.

Grade: 88

Quote:

The Undertaker seems to be looking over his shoulder in the opening minutes and that’s all Triple H needs to gain control as he works the Undertaker over. Chyna on the outside doesn’t help matters either as she never misses a chance to interfere and take a cheap shot but the Undertaker fights back, lighting up Triple H with strikes and pummeling him in the corner. The two men exchange close pinfalls but just as Triple H tries to hit a running knee lift, the Undertaker sidesteps, and scoops him up, delivering a Tombstone for the win.

Winner by Pinfall: The Undertaker
Grade: 97

We cut back to Vince McMahon’s office. He’s looking inside the door but we can’t see who he’s talking to, just that he’s looking up at them. He says that he’s a man of his word and if they do as he asks, they’ll have what they want. As the show ends, McMahon offers his hand to whomever with a big smile.
