With most of their stars not returning after the purchase, the rebuild has been slow thus far. With Bruce taking the lead in booking the shows, can the Hart family keep their dying promotion afloat with young up and coming talent and other competition quickly developing?

Pictures for championships are probably not the actual ones but its unsurprisingly hard to find good quality pictures for the titles.

Stampede Wrestling tapes their TV show someday throughout the week and it is syndicated across both Canada and USA early in the evenings on Saturday. Big events happen on rare occasions.

Stampede has working agreements with Canadian companies All-Star Wrestling and Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, with Japanese company New Japan Pro Wrestling, and the WWF have agreed to stay in a relationship with Stampede even after they sold it back to the Hart's.

Bruce is sitting in a room by himself going over the card for tonight. There is a knock on the door and "Lethal" Larry Cameron enters with an older man by his side.

He tells Bruce that he thought that Stampede could use some help backstage because Stu & Ross couldn't do it all, so he called Eddie.


Eddie Sharkey, "The Trainer of Champions"
Trained stars like Bob Backlund, Jesse Ventura, The Road Warriors, and upcoming talent like Rick Rude, Rick Steiner, and even Stampede's own, Larry Cameron.

Eddie has agreed to come up north and be an Agent for some of the matches, and help train some of our guys.

As Larry & Eddie leave the room, Bruce gets a phone call.

"Its final? That's fantastic! He will be here next week? Great!"

Stampede Wrestling was filmed in Calgary in front of 1,100 people.

Ted Arcidi was being selfish before the show and got some heat with the boys. Bruce gave him a slap on the wrist and removed him from the card so that no one would get upset with him.

Stampede held a dark tag match before the show.

Biff Wellington and Terry Sawyer defeated Goldie Rogers and Steve Blackman in 6:08 when Biff Wellington defeated Steve Blackman by pinfall.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I am Brian Dance, filling in for Ed Whalen who had some other obligations. We have a great show for you all tonight here at Stampede Wrestling. Later tonight, Owen Hart will defend his British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Championship against Kerry Brown. Let's start the show with Gerry Morrow taking on Ben Bassarab!"

This match was back and forth for the most part until the more experienced Gerry Morrow took control and finished it off.

In a decent match, Gerry Morrow defeated Ben Bassarab in 7:14 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Bad Company Issues a Challenge
Bruce Hart and Brian Pillman come out to the ring, they seem to have something to say. They are tired of Karachi Vice running around Stampede doing whatever they want and demand a match against them tonight. The brains behind Karachi Vice, J.R. Foley, exits the curtain. He laughs at the thought of someone actually wanting to step in the ring with his monsters. Foley tells them that they will be sorry that they asked for this and says they will face Akam & Gama Singh tonight.

Larry Cameron and The Viet Cong Express vs. Chris Benoit, Hashif Kahn and, the returning, Phil La Fon
The returning La Fon took most of the heat in the match, with the heels keeping him in their corner. Towards the end he was able to make a hot tag to Hashif who took them all out. Benoit tagged in and worked them over with some holds before hitting a Dragon Suplex for the pin.

In a decent match, Chris Benoit, Hashif Kahn and Phil La Fon defeated Larry Cameron and The Viet Cong Express in 9:24 when Chris Benoit defeated Viet Cong Express #2 by pinfall with a Dragon Suplex.

The faces celebrate a hard fought victory. Benoit and La Fon try to celebrate with Hashif but he refuses and leaves the ring. Benoit and La Fon shake hands and celebrate without him

British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Championship

vs.

Owen Hart (c) vs. Kerry Brown
Both competitors got their fair share of offence in this title match. Brown tried to keep the match standing and use his brawling to win. Owen tried to get it on the ground and use his superior grappling to take out Brown. At one point, Owen missed a Spinning Heel Kick and Brown caught him in a Belly-to-Back Suplex, which the fans thought was going to be the finish. The match ended when Owen got Brown in the Sharpshooter. Out of nowhere, Duke Myers slid in the ring and hit Owen from behind, causing a disqualification. Owen would retain the championship.

In a good match, Owen Hart defeated Kerry Brown in 10:44 when Kerry Brown was disqualified when Duke Myers ran in and attacked Owen Hart. Owen Hart makes defence number 1 of his British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight title.

A Brutal Beatdown
After the disqualification is announced, Brown and Myers decide to punish Owen. They repeatedly hit moves on him. The last of these being a Piledriver from Myers. The heels are very angry as they leave the ring. Medical personnel rush out to help Owen and they have to cart him to the back.

Bad Company vs. Karachi Vice (Gama Singh & Akam Singh)
Everyone got offence in this match. Karachi Vice focused on the leg of Bruce Hart every time he was in the ring. The match finally ended when Brian & Bruce hit stereo clotheslines on both members of Karachi Vice. Bruce's leg gave out but he fell on top of Akam for the pin.

In a decent match, Bad Company defeated Karachi Vice in 12:57 when Bruce Hart defeated Akam Singh by pinfall.

Karachi Vice Attacks
Foley yells to the back and the rest of Karachi Vice runs out. Akam, Gama and Makhan Singh and Strangler DiSalvo begin to systematically destroy Bad Company. They focus on Bruce Hart's leg and injure it even more. Karachi Vice hold their arms up in the air as the fans boo them out of the building. Show ends with the heels standing tall in the ring.

Bruce Hart is once again sitting in a room going over the show, this time with Stu and Ross with him. Someone knocks on the door and Ross walks over to open it.

Bruce - “You’re here, great! Tonight you will be accepting Johnny Smith’s open challenge. Good luck and give us a good show.”

The mystery person leaves and the Hart’s go back to putting the finishing touches on the show.

Stampede Wrestling was filmed in Calgary in front of 1,100 people.

Stampede held a few dark matches before the show.

In an extremely short pre-show match, Hashif Kahn defeated Goldie Rogers in 5:05 by pinfall with a Brainbuster.

In a pre-show bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Ted Arcidi and Brad Rheingans defeated Shinobi (from AGPW) and Steve Blackman in 6:39 when Brad Rheingans defeated Shinobi by pinfall with a Bridging Cradle Suplex.

Ed Whalen - ”Welcome to Stampede Wrestling from Calgary! Ed Whalen here and alongside me is Brian Dance. Brian, thanks for filling in for me last week. I was actually down in the US in Connecticut discussing possible agreements with another company.”

Brian Dance - “You’re welcome Ed. Tonight we have a great show here in Calgary. Johnny Smith will issue an open challenge to anyone in the back. Not only that but you, Ed, will sit down with J.R. Foley and conduct an interview with Karachi Vice.”

Ed Whalen - “That’s right, Brian, but to start out the night we will have Ben Bassarab taking on Duke Myers. It's going to be a ring-a-ding-dong dandy!”

Ben Bassarab vs. Duke Myers
Duke Myers, a brawler, kept this match in his control for most of the bout. Bassarab, the Canadian billed from Philadelphia, could never really get himself back into the match. Bassarab did eventually get some offence in and stun Myers for a few minutes. Duke got the upperhand back and set up for a Piledriver. He didn’t get all of the Piledriver, but it was enough to put the beaten Bassarab away.

In a decent match, Duke Myers defeated Ben Bassarab in 10:45 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Owen Saves Ben



Kerry Brown quickly gets into the ring and Duke grabs a mic.

Duke - “Owen, after last week, me and Kerry over here decided we are going to make your life a living hell. Starting with your tag team partner right here.” He points down to Ben. After Kerry & Duke kick Ben a few times, Duke begins to set him up for a Piledriver.



Owen, with a neck brace on, slowly makes his way to the ring to save his former brother-in-law (Bassarab is divorced from Owen's sister, Alison,) but he isn’t alone.



Keith Hart follows directly behind him. Keith and Owen get in the ring before Duke can hit the Piledriver and get a few good shots in on the duo. The heels retreat, but not without a smile on their face.

Johnny Smith comes out to the ring, clad in Union Jack attire. He grabs a mic, but before he can even get any words out...

Johnny Smith vs. Haku
Johnny was still under shock when the bell rang, which allowed Haku to get started on offence early. The Face of Terror made quick work of the Brit, hitting a Superkick to end it. Johnny seemed to be stumbling around a lot during the match.

In an extremely short match, Haku defeated Johnny Smith in 4:45 by pinfall.

Mysterious Vignette

In the woods, an axe is stuck in the side of a tree. Deep laughter is heard but also the sound of people running in fear. The words “He is Back” appears on the screen.

Chris Benoit and Phil La Fon vs. Larry Cameron and Gerry Morrow
The heels already started off with immense heat because of Larry Cameron’s attire. He entered in full Americana, even waving an American flag. Through all the booing, they managed to start the match off hot, keeping La Fon in their corner. The teams went back and forth the entire eleven and a half minutes. The match ended with La Fon getting the hot tag and hitting Cameron with a Dragon Suplex.

In a decent match, Chris Benoit & Phil La Fon defeated Larry Cameron and Gerry Morrow in 11:31 when Phil La Fon defeated Larry Cameron by pinfall with a Dragon Suplex.

Celebration Cut Short



Chris Benoit and Phil La Fon celebrate their second victory as a team.



Before they can even leave the ring, The Viet Cong Express slide into the ring behind them. The two teams go face to face before a brawl ensues. They brawl through the crowd and into the back.



They eventually get separated in the back by Stu, Ross and WWF wrestler Brad Rheingans.

Brian Pillman vs. Strangler DiSalvo
This match was more about the story than the actual wrestling. Brian fought with fire in his eyes after what DiSalvo and his team did to his tag team partner. Every time DiSalvo had Pillman in a hold he could be heard talking about what they did to Bruce. DiSalvo’s bravado would end up being his demise as Pillman caught him with a kick to the head while he was taunting to the crowd. Brian climbed the turnbuckle slowly as the crowd cheered him on. He hit the Flying Corkscrew Crossbody and pinned him 1...2...3

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Brian Pillman defeated Strangler DiSalvo in 10:16 by pinfall with a Flying Corkscrew Crossbody.

Karachi Vice Sends Pillman to the Back



After the match, and before their interview, Karachi Vice walks out and confronts Brian Pillman in the ring. With Bruce still injured from the attack last week there is no one to save Brian. They quickly dismantle Pillman, throwing him over the top rope and the referee helps him to the back.

Ed Whalen Interviews Karachi Vice



Ed Whalen stands up from the announcing table. Chairs are set up in the ring. Whalen and J.R. Foley sit down while the rest of Karachi Vice surround both of them.

Ed Whalen - “As promised, I am here with J.R. Foley and the rest of Karachi Vice. Mr. Foley, what do you have to say about your men’s actions against Bruce Hart after the match last week.”

J.R. - “Ed, Karachi Vice cares about one thing, and one thing only.” He points to Makhan’s shoulder. “That championship belt. I do not care about Bruce or any of the Hart’s for that matter.”

Ed - “But you have to expect some repercussions for your actions…”

J.R. - “What are they going to do Ed? Try to take the title away from that monster?” Once again points to Makhan. “I would like to see them try. But speaking of repercussions, back in Liverpool we learn quickly that the more men you have on your side, the less people that want to mess with you. So I decided I was going to bring another man into Karachi Vice. Ed, what’s the best way to get someone to be on your side? Money.” J.R. pulls out a wad of American money, which makes the fans boo even louder than before. “I have hired a man and he is going to come out here right now and accept his payment. Come on out!”

Rocky Johnson walks out from behind the curtain to a few cheers but mostly boos. The Canadian enters the ring as Foley and the rest of Karachi Vice laughs and smiles. Foley hands over the stack of cash and turns back to Ed.

J.R. - “Ed, guess what? Tonight Karachi Vice and our new member, Rocky Johnson, are having a party. You wanna come?”

Ed - “No, I think…”

J.R. - “Well you aren’t invited!” He laughs and turns around to leave the ring.

Rocky Johnson tosses the money on the ground and hits Foley with a Dropkick. He fights off a few members of Karachi Vice before rolling out of the ring. The fans cheer as Johnson backs up the ramp with a smile on his face to end the show.

Since a lot of people aren't necessarily familiar with some of the workers. I thought I could do worker highlights to talk about some of their backstories. The first one will be over the main heel stable, Karachi Vice.

J.R. Foley

The foil in Stampede for many years, Foley has managed many heels to success. Foley hailed from Liverpool, England, but you wouldn't know that by looking at him. In his early years, Foley wore khaki pants, a jacket and a German WW2-esque helmet. He even sported a moustache similar to an infamous German guy. In the early 80's he began wearing a cowboy hat and got rid of war garb. Leading heel tag teams in the 70's, he was an inventor of using quick tags, something that was unheard of in that time. Foley talks with the best of them. His interviews with Ed Whalen some of the best. When the new era of Dungeon graduates were breaking into Stampede, Foley led The Dynamite Kid into battle against Stu's boys, Bret and Davey Boy. Some believe that The British Bulldogs would never have been the team they were without Foley's influence on them. Anyone that witnessed what Foley did in his time at Stampede would tell you that he was one of the most influential heels of all time.

Makhan Singh

You may know Makhan Singh by many other names. Norman the Lunatic, Bastion Booger, or his birth name Mike Shaw. After the closing of Stampede, Shaw went on to the big promotions. He started off in WCW as Norman the Lunatic, managed by Teddy Long. He would get multiple title shots against Ric Flair. Shaw went on to WWF, and became Friar Ferguson. He would later become his most famous gimmick, Bastion Booger. Shaw never got into the main event scene like he was in Stampede, but he had a pretty successful career thanks to the exposure he got in Calgary.

Gama Singh

The uncle of former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, The Great Gama Singh was a mainstay heel in Stampede Wrestling. Singh was constantly in the main event picture, fighting against all the big name faces in Calgary. His most famous championship run would be with Stampede Wrestling's British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Championship, which he would win six times in the 1980s; with title victories over future renowned stars such as Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart and Chris Benoit.

Akam Singh

Brother of Gama Singh, most of Akam's career was spent in Stampede Wrestling, teaming with his brother as apart of Karachi Vice.

Strangler DiSalvo

"Strangler" Steve DiSalvo is probably most know for his time as The Minotaur in WCW. Not much would come from DiSalvo's career after his time at WCW. Before WCW, DiSalvo spent some time down in Puerto Rico's WWC, where is won the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship and WWC World Tag Team Championship.

Bruce Hart is walking around making his weekly rounds, talking to all the guys. He comes up on Johnny Smith. Johnny is clearly wasted on some kind of narcotic. Bruce immediately notices and goes off on him, telling him to leave and never come back.

Stampede Wrestling was filmed in Calgary in front of 1,300 people.

Off to a Quick Start



Stampede Wrestling starts without the usual conversation between Ed and Brian, as Bruce and Stu Hart are already standing in the ring with Ed holding a mic.

Ed - “Ladies and gentlemen we are off to a quick start here this week on Stampede Wrestling as Bruce and Stu couldn’t wait any longer to address Karachi Vice.”

Ed puts the mic up to Stu’s face so he can talk.

Stu - “I have had enough of Foley and his goons running around my company thinking that they can do whatever they want. So as the person who runs Stampede Wrestling, I have decided that it’s time for Makhan Singh to defend his championship. I went to Bruce to see if he was healed enough to challenge for the title…”

Bruce steps in.

Bruce - “I am not healed, but sometimes I have to do not only what is best for the Hart family, but the people of Calgary. Even though I am beaten and battered, next week I will be challenging the disgusting monster Makhan Singh for that championship. Karachi Vice cannot continue to run around here and attack my family and friends.”

Ed - “So it is official, next week on Stampede Wrestling, Bruce Hart will challenge Makhan Singh for the Stampede North American Heavyweight Championship.”

Stu - "Ed, I would like to make one thing clear. If any other member of Karachi Vice, including Foley, affects the outcome of this title match, there will be consequences."

Bruce has a slight look of fear on his face as him and his father leave the ring and head to the back.

Gerry Morrow, Larry Cameron, and The Cuban Assassin vs. Hashif Kahn, Haku, and Brad Rheingans
Gerry & Larry show their good chemistry when they keep Brad in their corner, hitting tag moves on him. Haku gets a tag in and destroys both Gerry and Larry. Cuban Assassin and Brad Rheingans tag in at the same time. Cuban Assassin dominates Brad, eventually hitting an Assassin Splash to end the match.

In a decent match, Gerry Morrow, Larry Cameron and Cuban Assassin defeated Hashif Kahn, Haku and Brad Rheingans in 9:28 when Cuban Assassin defeated Brad Rheingans by pinfall with an Assassin Splash.

Big Men Brawl



Quickly after the match, Haku gets in from outside the ring and comes face to face with Cuban Assassin. The two big men exchange punches. Back and forth, back and forth. Haku goes for a super kick but the Assassin ducks and hits Haku with a low blow.



Ed Whalen gets into the ring to interview Cuban Assassin.

Ed - “I’m here with the Cuban Assassin.”

Assassin - *In Spanish* “You dirty Canadians are almost as bad as those filthy Americans. I will destroy every last one of you pigs and run through Stampede Wrestling.”

This is a back and forth bout. The brawler, Kerry Brown, gets a lot of good shots off on Keith. Keith takes control in the middle of match with his superior grappling. The match ends when Kerry turns around a hold that Keith has locked in into a Bulldog Bite.

In a decent match, Kerry Brown defeated Keith Hart in 7:24 by submission with a Bulldog Bite.

Kerry holds Keith down as Duke gets into the ring with a microphone.

Duke - "It's time for Keith to pay for your actions, Owen."



Owen and Ben come out to the ring. Owen grabs a mic from Ed.

Owen - "Stop, stop, stop. We will settle this in a match. If you want to punish me, lets do it in the ring. Next week, find yourselves a partner and this will be settled once and for all. Dad has already approved this, so it is happening."

Great back and forth exciting match. Viet Cong Express #1 (Hiroshi Hase, future NJPW legend) worked the match well as a heel, foiling Benoit’s offence. There were a lot of high flying moves and even brawling in the crowd. The match ended when Benoit slipped off of Express #1’s shoulder and hit him with a Dragon Suplex.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Chris Benoit defeated Viet Cong Express #1 in 13:38 by pinfall with a Dragon Suplex.

Tag Team Championship Opportunity



La Fon comes out to celebrate with Benoit as they have earned the opportunity to face Viet Cong Express for the titles next week.



Both members of the Express can be heard complaining to Ed Whalen about the outcome of the match.

Rocky Johnson and Brian Pillman vs. Karachi Vice (Makhan Singh and Gama Singh)
In this match, Rocky and Pillman were only able to get offence off on Gama, as Makhan was too large and would stop anything they tried against him. It ended when Makhan caught Pillman out of the air, threw him into the turnbuckle, and hit him with a Body Avalanche in the corner.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Makhan Singh and Gama Singh defeated Rocky Johnson and Brian Pillman in 11:59 when Makhan Singh defeated Brian Pillman by pinfall with a Body Avalanche.

Champion and Challenger Face to Face



Karachi Vice celebrate their victory over Pillman and Rocky. Makhan begins to pick up Pillman and set him up for something, but Bruce Hart's music hits and he comes out to ringside.



Bruce slides into the ring and is face to face with the champion in the ring, setting up their title match for next week.
