His stats aren't worth posting, but he'll finally quit wasting a scholarship this season.

He can really score it, and I'm hoping he can approach 20 a game this year. Had a very good offseason, training-wise. Has become active on the offensive glass and will pick up a steal a game now too, and has actually improved into a competent defender.

Ended up on the bench last year, but will probably be back in to start the season. Really good scorer, and had a much better success rate last season. Hoping to see his efficiency and numbers increase this season. Has a lot of offensive talent.

Juste Durieu, 6'3", 187, Junior, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

JUCO with an odd name, I'm pretty sure he was a foreign recruit, but anyways, the game says he's from Wisconsin, but with no high school listed. I'm disappointed with his defensive rating, but shouldn't have been given the ranking, I shouldn't be. He's got a nice three point shot, and gets on the glass. I'm hoping he's at the end of the bench the next few years, but he's versatile enough to help out the next two seasons.

Big wing who has had spurts of offensive success in some games. He's very active on the offensive glass, and due to his size and talent he can play a weak 4 if need be. Always on the verge of being squeezed out of the rotation, with Durieu on the squad now, he could be this season.

Ended up staying in the starting lineup all season, and will begin the season there again. Lightning quick, and has shot decent percentages the last two seasons. Takes really good care of the ball, but his ability to actually play 25 minutes a game, unlike Beck, is really what keeps him in the lineup.

Started off rough, but improved and his three point percentage rebounded to a nice rate by the end of the season. Still waiting on his point guard skills to develop some, his lack of stamina is bewildering. Maxed out points in the offseason and he hardly improved. Might have to just forsake stamina for talents. Regardless, he can really shoot it and I'm hoping he piles in some points.

Had a decent freshman year. He's an excellent athlete that can contribute in a number of ways. Defends, rebounds, and a solid passer. He just takes some ill advised shots sometimes. Started 17 games last year, but will be off the bench to start.

Had a decent season, but probably shot too many threes, which is just a product of my settings the last two years. I'll try to mellow it out, to get him and Neff to cool down from there. Anyways, he's a solid defender and helps out on the glass. He does have a decent three point shot, but he needs to concentrate on defending and grabbing boards.

Pretty darn similar to Neff. Slightly better defender, better rebounder, but has a major problem of shooting threes when he's in. The last two seasons he is 11-108 from beyond the arc. So, it limits his minutes.

Fantastic defender, that contributes a little offensively inside. Contributes on the offensive glass, but is going to start to begin the season solely due to his defensive presence inside.

Karl Coronado, 6'9", 249, Freshman, Jamesville, North Carolina

Good looking freshman with some really nice offensive talent, being able to score inside and out, but he is a poor free throw percentage. Okay defender inside, and just an okay rebounder. But, even as a freshman I think he can score off the bench and contribute.

Tony Petty, 7'2", 267, Freshman, Chantilly, Virginia

Walk-on that showed up, all 7'2" of them. I actually got a second walk-on, another 7 footer, but I cut him. He was awful AND I prefer having a perimeter walk-on and a post walk-on. Anyways, Petty actually has some offensive talent including a jump shot. But, he's really bad defensively and doesn't rebound much. But, an interesting guy with his height. Hopefully he doesn't get scholarship aspirations and he actually sticks around for 4 years.

As a side note, we literally couldn't find a to-be senior to take a scholarship from us, I literally would have taken any of them to fill the ship for this season. Oh, well. Fowler will play inside if need be.

Starting lineup to begin the season

Default November 1970 (3-3)

Well, we've got some offensive punch, and have the depth to really up the tempo. We haven't played anyone worth a damn, really. The two best teams we've played have been Southeast Oklahoma State and Southern Connecticut, and we lost both of them in overtime. We're shooting the ball well, and Karl Coronado has been a revelation as a freshman, scoring 9 points a game in 18 minutes per and is 11-20 from three. Defense looks like it'll be a problem again. I went with 1-2-1 zone for no good reason and it hasn't worked well.

Recruiting News:

We have 5 scholarships to give, and have already filled 3 of them, all of them JUCOs. We got a couple of 2 star post recruits in Brooks Fornier and Eric Yung, The former out of Michigan and the latter out of Virginia. The 6'7" Fournier is a really good defender with shot blocking ability. My scout likes his potential to score the ball, both inside and out but his stats don't back that up, I'm banking on him being a defensive oriented 4. Yung is 6'9" and is active on the offensive glass and has a nice mid-range game. Just an okay defender, he'll add some needed post depth, but hopefully he isn't relied on for much next year. We got turned down by a high school senior in Maine, a 7 foot defensive whiz, when I thought for sure we had him.

We filled one of our two guards spots with another 2* JUCO Gunther Metz, from Germany by way of a Maryland JUCO. He's 6'1" and a tough defender with some true point guard skills. His offensive game isn't much, and he's more effective attacking the basket. His ability to defend should get him some playing time immediately, and he'll contribute for two years.

Hoping to get a freshman wing named Stephen Bales out of Virginia, he's had us leading and as his only offer since the very beginning and he just hasn't pulled the trigger yet. Hopefully, he's not just playing with us. He'd be the jewel of the class, for sure.

Default November 1970 box scores

Whipped Longwood, our independent opponent, with zero problems. Bazan had a double double to start off, and Bratcher put up a lot of shots to get 20 points. Right from the start, Coronado is showing off legit offensive talent.

Gentile with a strong game, and Beck knocked down some shots as well. But, our zone really worked well against this sorry team and we win comfortably and the score is a bit misleading.

Hofstra hit their first 9 three pointers, and even though we had a few chances to get close, they still scored on us enough to keep us at arm's length. Gentile had 23, and Beck continues to be efficient.

First game of a 3 day tournament, we take care of our opening opponent Alcorn State with zero issues. They were really bad, and we just played okay and won going away. 7 steals and 19 turnovers on their part certainly helped.

The first of the two overtime games. We managed to make enough threes to get the late comeback and a tying Bratcher 3 with 20 seconds to go, but we couldn't stop them in the over time and we squander 29 points from Gentile. Townsend went for 24 for the Savage Storm.

This one was played even faster than the last one. An overtime that saw us on the business end of a 10-0 run to start the extra period,, and then hit a bunch of threes in a row to make it look kind of close. Southern Connecticut gets a great performance from the line, and Gentile shoots us out of it. Coronado with another very strong game, with 15 and 6.

Default December 1970 (3-4)

I gave myself a tough schedule for no good reason, and we take on some pretty solid squads this month, and hung tight for the most part except for a shellacking at #15 South Florida. One more non-conference game on the road against Virginia Tech and then conference play begins. The way we've competed this year in the non-conference gives me hope that conference play will go very well. Neff went down with an injury and won't be back until early February, post depth is not our strength and it's forced Fowler to get time at the 4, a position he isn't very well suited for.

Recruiting News

After signing 3 JUCO's, we finally hit with a high school recruit and sign 3*, #384 Stephen Bales out of Virginia. He's a 6'5" wing who has a strong offensive game, especially shooting the ball. He averaged 16 a game as a senior, which is a little worrisome, but at the minimum he's going to be a good three point shooter. He's an adequate defender.

Still have one scholarship to give, and am targeting a 7 foot senior out of Florida, who is ranked around 1500, but looks like he plays defense and blocks shots, which I'll take at this point in the recruiting game.

Just wanted to say I'm enjoying following your career posts. I share your frustration of having an otherwise serviceable big man who tosses up the threes with very little success. And to show I'm concentrating I did notice your starting PG for the 70-71 season; Jan Bratchbury!

Will be interesting to see how your latest recruits work out. Looks like you hit last year on Coronado, so if one of your post men works out well (especially if it's Fournier with his shot blocking potential) you should have a good inside presence for a couple of years. Bales will be key as you have a four year investment in him and your three perimeter starters only have two seasons left between them once Bales arrives on campus. Having said that your sophomore guards are pretty useful and just maybe that will give you the opportunity to redshirt Bales whilst you upgrade the roster; depends a lot on how those players already in the system perform in the current season.
