Default Alcatraz Pro Wrestling - 1987 Local to Global

Preface: I started this save a week or two ago. I have all the shows saved, so my question is rather you guys would like me to run through each show from 1987 to 1991 (about 30 shows) completely or just post the quick results from the events. I have no preference for either. With that out of the way let me run down what this company is all about. APW Graphics are courtesy of friend of mine named Blake (2SplitWings here on GDS).

Alcatraz Pro Wrestling is a wrestling company owned and operated by action movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger that was opened up in March of 1987. Schwarzenegger has said that he wants to bring in the best talent from around the world, but he is not known for being particularly creative behind the scenes in wrestling. Hopefully he can bring in people to help APW succeed as it runs into the future.

The company will focus on wrestling enough that fans will be interested whether the wrestler is popular or not. Gimmicks won't have any impact and fans would like to have at least a little risk with their matches and angles. APW won't be able to get Afternoon or Early Evening time slots, but will be favourable towards getting sponsorship.

Default APW Escape from Alcatraz 1987

Wednesday, Week 4, April 1987
Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, CA
104 People in Attendance

Quote:

The show opens with a shot of Arnold Schwarzenegger standing on Alcatraz Island.

Arnold: There is so much rich history behind me here at Alcatraz. A former military prison turned into a federal penitentiary. Tonight, we add to the history of not only Alcatraz, but to my own resume, professional wrestling.

The camera zooms out and through the city of San Francisco before cutting to inside the high school gym. Arnold makes his entrance as the small crowd goes wild. Arnold looks to continue from the video, when he is immediately interrupted by George Wells.

George: Arnold, I hear that tonight you have a little tournament starting up. And I just wanted to bring a little soul to that tournament.

Arnold: George, no one important has ever come from soul. Movie stars, like me, are the cream of the crop. I have been Conan, the Terminator, and coming out later this year...the Predator.

Right then, Arnold is cut off by another man, Chris Champion.

Chris: Look, I don't care about what either of you have to say, because I left WWF, because they refused to give me a shot at a championship. Can you believe it? Me! Champion is even in my name! I have a unique opportunity here in APW to become champion right away and I demand to be in the tournament.

Arnold: Alright guys, well you're both in the tournament, but this round you have a bye. So if you two want to fight so bad, how about you face each other...right...now!

Quote:
VS.

George Wells and Chris Champion go back and forth for the early going. These two will be on opposite sides of the bracket so we may see an early look at the finals of the Conviction tournament here. Champion starts to take control, but Wells makes a comeback and hits The Avalanche for the three count with at 9:43. A good babyface win to get the crowd started.

Quote:

Round One of the Conviction Tournament
VS.

We roll right into the next match as "Mean" Mark Callous takes on the young Bob Holly. Mark Callous dominates all of this match as he chokeslams Holly for the easy win at 4:28. He could be a force in this tournament to be reckoned with

Quote:

Round One of the Conviction Tournament

VS.

The veteran Australian grappler Jonathan Boyd takes on the young martial artist Steve Blackman. Blackman is able to fight off Boyd at the beginning, but it eventually catches up to him as Boyd would lock in the Iron Claw where Blackman would tap out at 5:53.

Quote:

Three men are backstage, they are Chris Colt, Doug Gilbert and Ed Moretti.

Chris: I have embarked on a spiritual quest that has led me to a higher power. These two men with me are my "understudies", if you will. Doug Gilbert to my left, he is my protege who has such a bright future as a professional wrestler and a leader of this new religion. Mr. Moretti here is my protection, which every religious leader can't be without these days. I will convert all of APW and all of it's fans to follow me in order to lead me to the top.

Through me all things shall flow!

Quote:

VS.

In this match, we have the young Barr Brothers taking on the long time veterans of the tag division, Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, the Fantastics. This match starts off hot as all competitors fly around the ring. Jesse Barr gets a few shots in on Bobby before Bobby tags Tommy in who starts to go to work on Jesse. Jesse is able to escape and tag in Art. Tommy and Art take each other on in the middle of the ring. Meanwhile, Jesse removes the turnbuckle pad, but the ref stops him. While this happens, Art hits Tommy with a low blow. He rolls him up the ref turns around to make the count and just to make sure Art puts his feet on the ropes at 11:57 for the win. The Barr Brothers steal one here tonight against the Fantastics using their dirty tricks.

Quote:

Round One of the Conviction Tournament
VS.

Eric Embry takes on Barry Horowitz in this Conviction Tournament match up. Horowitz gets the early advantage, but Embry uses some quick thinking to get the upper hand, cockily pointing to his head every time he outsmarts his opponent. Horowitz comes firing back, but Embry once again trips him up. Horowitz gets pushed into the ref leading to Embry hitting the piledriver leading to an easy 1..2..3 at 8:07. And Embry moves on to the next round.

Quote:

We are sent to a dark area, with one candle light on an eerie looking man surrounded by voodoo dolls. He refers to himself as Sumac Samedi, a master of voodoo.

Sumac: I have immense powers using these dolls. Able to twist and turn and torment any human I please just with thought. I will use this to DESTROY wrestling families, like the Harts and the Steamboats! They have ruined wrestling with their nepotism. Soon, I will take over.

He grabs a doll that looks like Owen Hart and starts to poke at it menacingly until the candle blows out.

Quote:

Round One of the Conviction Tournament

VS.

In the final round one match up we have amateur wrestler and former WWF superstar, Brad Rheingans taking on the young Jack Victory. Brad Rheingans shows his technical dominance throwing Victory around the ring. Victory tries to brawl with Rheingans but is unsuccessful. Rheingans would hit the Bridging Cradle Suplex for the pin at 10:26 and move on to the next round of the tournament.

Quote:

Mick Foley and Tarzan Goto are brawling around the backstage area. Throwing each other into producer equipment and beating each other through out the locker room. Eventually they make their way out to the stage area. This leads to Arnold coming out.

Arnold: Ok, stop! If you guys can't wait any longer, then you can have this match right now. Oh, and this match, will be a HARDCORE MATCH!

Quote:
Hardcore Match
VS.

This match was a great way to introduce the fans of APW to the Hardcore aspect of the company. Using two of the best, Tarzan Goto and Mick Foley. Foley got the big babyface pops and take advantage late in the match but Goto was able to hit the Pancake Facebuster on Foley for the pin at 12:03.

Quote:

VS.

These two teams are some of the best in the business today. Blade Runners, Sting and Warrior, have such pure power and charisma. And the Southern Rockers have great chemistry as former tag champions. This match went back and forth for a long time, before the Rockers would get the upper hand. Scott Peterson looked to have it and tagged in Doll. Warrior would come in and save Sting from sure demise and throw everyone out of the ring to a huge pop from the crowd. Sting would be able to regather himself and lock in the Scorpion Deathlock on Doll and Doll had no choice but to tap at 16:27. The Blade Runners get a huge victory to start off their careers in APW.

Historian 5/8

So since this is already in 1990, almost 91 I think I'll have prediction scores all add up leading to 1991 and then who ever is winning can get a big reward.

Default APW Convicted 1987

Tuesday, Week 4, June 1987
Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, CA
106 People in Attendance

Quote:
PRE-SHOW
Round Two of the Conviction Tournament
Tarzan Goto defeated Eric Embry in 7:55 by pinfall with a Piledriver. (37)

Round Two of the Conviction Tournament
Brad Rheingans defeated George Wells in 8:01 by pinfall with a Bridging Cradle Suplex. (49)

The Southern Rockers defeated Steve Blackman & Vic Steamboat in 12:24 when Scott Peterson defeated Vic Steamboat by pinfall. (31)

Round Two of the Conviction Tournament
Mick Foley defeated Mark Callous in 9:51 by pinfall with a Piledriver. (41)

Round Two of the Conviction Tournament
Chris Champion defeated Jonathan Boyd in 12:02 by submission with an Armbar/Kneebar Combo after blatantly cheating. (34)
Quote:

The night starts in a dark part of the backstage area with Chris Colt and his two cronies, Doug Gilbert and Ed Moretti.

Chris: Tonight will be a test for my two understudies as they take on the Blade Runners. Sting, Warrior, you guys still have a chance to see the light and join our side of the cause. If you don't, then you must suffer the consequences. Through me...all things shall flow!

Quote:
Semi-Finals of the Conviction Tournament
VS.

Chris Champion cheated his way to victory last round and now he seems to be cocky as he goes against the monster Tarzan Goto. Champion got too cocky as Goto would take full control early and keep it going til the end.

Winner: Tarzan Goto in 6:10 by pinfall with a Pancake Facebuster
Quote:
Semi-Finals of the Conviction Tournament
VS.

Mick Foley and Brad Rheingans, two of the biggest faces of this company go toe to toe for the first time. This match was great as both men would each have their moments, there was no telling who was going to win. They had pretty good chemistry in the ring together as well. They would go almost a full 14 minutes before this one could be decided.

Winner: Mick Foley in 13:53 by pinfall with a Double Arm DDT

Quote:

La Parka is joined backstage with Villano IV and V. These three are some of the biggest stars in Mexico. They speak Spanish and La Parka says that they are joining forces to create a path of destruction of anyone who dares to stand in their way.

Quote:
VS.

The Blade Runners would be taking on Colt's disciples in this one. Gilbert and Moretti were much too young and inexperienced to be taking on these guys. Chris Colt would get involved, of course, but Warrior and Sting were privy to that as they were able to take him out.

Winner: Sting defeated Ed Moretti in 7:53 by submission with a Scorpion Deathlock
Quote:

Shane Douglas comes out to the ring.

Shane: I am the Franchise of APW. I am the next big thing. There is no point in me having to prove myself, because I am a shoe-in to be the first APW Heavyweight Champion.

Bob Holly interrupts Shane Douglas.

Bob: Shut up! If you want to reach the top of the mountain here in APW, you have to do it the correct way. Not by running your mouth, but by winning matches in the ring.

Shane: You're a nobody. I can beat you senseless with one hand tied behind my back. And I will do it anytime, anywhere.

Bob: Well how about at Battle in the Asylum then, we go one on one.

Shane: You're on!

Quote:
VS.

Two newcomers to APW, Black Cat and Vampiro take each other on tonight. Black Cat is a well known wrestler in Japan and Mexico, whereas Vampiro is a young Canadian best known for his work in Mexico. Black Cat uses his superior technical ability to stay in control of this match.

Winner: Black Cat in 9:58 by pinfall with a Powerbomb
Quote:

Sumac Samedi is back in the dark area with his voodoo dolls.

Sumac: Tonight, I will end Owen Hart, stopping the nepotism in wrestling. Then next will be Vic Steamboat. A worthless scum who just got in APW because of his brother. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Tonight, Owen, you will suffer from my hands.

Quote:
VS.

Owen Hart finally goes one on one with Sumac Samedi, the voodoo torturer. Owen Hart is in control most of this match as he is the much better wrestler. Eventually Sumac is downed in the corner and he pulls something out. It's the voodoo doll of Owen! He stabs it repeatedly, leading Owen to fall and grimace in extreme pain.

Winner: Sumac Samedi in 14:07 by pinfall
Quote:

Arnold comes out to the ring to make an announcement.

Arnold: Our main event tonight is to crown the first ever Conviction Champion! However, Mick Foley and Tarzan Goto already competed in a hardcore match last time, so let's step it up a notch. Tonight's main event will be a LIGHT TUBE DEATH MATCH!

Quote:
VS.

The Fantastics get ready to take on a young team that call themselves the Nasty Boys. Probably because of their crude behavior. The Nasty Boys surprise the Fantastics with their good chemistry that they already have in the ring. Fantastics slow the pace down in order to keep control of the match. The Nasty Boys held their own in the ring as well, but Tommy Rogers looked especially good in the ring.

Winner: Tommy Rogers defeated Jerry Sags in 11:40 by pinfall with a Rocket Launcher

Quote:
Finals of the Conviction Tournament
Light Tube Death Match for the APW Conviction Title

VS.

This one starts off hot as Mick Foley and Tarzan Goto immediately start brawling and it leads to the outside of the ring. Goto immediately goes after the light tubes and smacks it across the back of Foley. These two go back and forth with light tubes and are just a bloody mess. Foley sets up a table with light tubes on it and hits the Double Arm DDT on Goto through the table!!!

Winner: Mick Foley by pinfall with a Double Arm DDT. Mick Foley wins the Conviction Title!

Arnold Schwarzenegger opens the show up by addressing the crowd.

Arnold: Tonight we will crown our first ever Heavyweight Champion. I have been watching closely to competitors in the tournament and outside of the tournament and have decided on only one match that could contain these men. We will have a six man steel asylum match. Your competitors will be: Chris Champion, Chris Colt, Sting, The Warrior, Tarzan Goto and a final special appearance that I will announce later tonight!

Quote:
VS.

Shane Douglas and Bob Holly square off in their match that they made official at Convicted. Shane Douglas shows in this match why he's the franchise taking quick control of the match. Holly fights back with a few shots of his own, before Shane Douglas is able to hit a huge belly to belly suplex for the three count.

Winner: Shane Douglas by pinfall in 6:26 with a Belly to Belly Suplex
Quote:
VS.

Colt's Disciples take on La Parka's in this tag team match. The Villanos take quick control with their experience in the ring and tagging together. O course, Chris Colt had to get involved and distracted Villano IV while Villano V got stuck in a clawhold by Gilbert.

Winners: Doug Gilbert defeated Villano V by submission with a Clawhold in 9:49 after a distraction from Chris Colt
Quote:

Colt, Gilbert, and Moretti beat down the Villanos until...

LA PARKA RUNS IN FOR THE SAVE!!! Colt and his disciples escape the ring while La Parka picks up Los Villanos.

Quote:
VS.

Jesse Barr is without his brother Art tonight and he takes on newcomer Brian Pillman, the coolest dude in San Fran. Pillman and Jesse have pretty good chemistry throughout this match. Pillman would make quick work of Jesse ending it with a crucifix armbar.

Winner: Brian Pillman by submission with a Crucifix Armbar in 6:09
Quote:
VS.

Sumac tries to take control early but Vic is too quick for him. They go back and forth before Sumac pulls out the voodoo doll of Vic.

OWEN HART RUNS DOWN TO THE RING! He immediately starts hitting Sumac. The bell starts ringing as Owen goes to town on Sumac to stop him from using the dolls on Vic.

Winner: Sumac Samedi wins by DQ in 7:38
Quote:

Owen: Sumac, me and Vic here want a handicap match or a tag team match with you if you can even find a tag team partner!

Sumac nods his head in agreement.

Quote:
VS.

The Fantastics take on the Southern Rockers in this tag team match. Fulton starts off with Peterson and makes quick work of him before tagging in Rogers. Rogers looks great in this match once again. Doll comes in and tries to take advantage. He gets Rogers down and starts to make his move. They corner Rogers and keep the fresh man in. Rogers is able to escape and knock down Peterson with a clothesline. They both make the tag and Fulton knocks down Doll. Fulton sets up and hits the rocket launcher.

Winners: Bobby Fulton defeated Steve Doll with a Rocket Launcher in 11:36
Quote:
Hardcore Match for the Conviction Title

VS.

Mick Foley makes his first defense against La Parka with Los Villanos by his side. Foley and Parka brawl immediately and take it to the outside. Foley gets a chair and Parka dodges it and kicks him in the gut. They continue on battering each other with weapons. Eventually Los Villanos get involved but Foley is able to battle them off as well. La Parka tries to take advantage but Foley is able to hit the double arm DDT.

Winner: AND STILL APW Conviction Champion Mick Foley by pinfall with the Double Arm DDT in 13:57

Quote:

Arnold comes back out to announce the final competitor inside the steel asylum.

Arnold: Tonight I said I would announce the final participant into the Steel Asylum. That man is our biggest signing to date. He is...

Arnold: LEATHERFACE!

The crowd is both confused and scared as this man comes down to the ring wielding a chainsaw and swinging it everywhere. The crowd is scared as hell now as this wildman has gotten into the ring

Quote:
Six-Way Steel Asylum Match for the APW Heavyweight Title

VS. VS. VS. VS. VS.

The steel cage comes down around these six men. This is the steel asylum. As soon as the bell rings all hell breaks loose. Sting and Warrior try to team up to start this match taking out Chris Champion. Colt takes on Goto, while Leatherface rapidly switches who he's trying to take out. Leatherface is like a crazy man in the ring. Throwing people into the corner and into the cage. Eventually, Goto catches up to him and takes advantage and slows him down. With all men down, Sting takes out Goto and is the only man left up. He turns around to be met with his tag partner, Warrior. The crowd lets out a roar as they want to see these two fight. They start brawling. The crowd goes nuts. Warrior is able to hit a running crossbody but he turns around into a big clothesline from Colt. Colt picks Champion up and hits a few chops. Champion turns him around and throws him into the cage. Goto comes up from behind and suplexes Champion. Leatherface is back up and goes after Goto. He puts him up for a Powerbomb and hits it! 1...2...3! Leatherface is the first ever APW Heavyweight Champion!

Winner: AND NEW APW Heavyweight Champion Leatherface by pinfall after a Powerbomb to Tarzan Goto in 15:44
