Week 3, June, 2001
Live from LJVM Coliseum Annex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Attendance: 3.776

Quote:

The first episode of Monday Nitro following the Great American Bash starts off hot with Booker T coming to the ring to a great ovation from the crowd as Tony and Mike bring everyone up to speed on Booker's return last night, laying out the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett in the process. Booker gets on the mic and delivers a straight-to-the-point message, saying that as everyone saw last night he's back and he wants the title shot that Eric Bischoff owes him! Booker then looks toward the entrance ramp, but instead of Eric Bischoff, Booker is joined by...

"Big Sexy" Kevin Nash. Nash makes his way to the ring, grabbing a mic of his own along the way, and says that since he beat the champion last night, if anyone should be getting a shot at the World Title, it's him. So Booker will just have to take his place in the line and wait his turn.

Booker and Nash are then joined in the ring by Diamond Dallas Page, and he, too, believes that he should be next in line for a title shot, saying that he beat Mike Awesome last night at the Great American Bash. And since Nash has already had his shot, and Booker is just coming back from injury--no disrespect to either of them, but DDP should be getting the next World Title opportunity. With three superstars in the ring all wanting the same thing, Tony wonders just how this is all going to play out, but then...(B+)

The owner of WCW, Eric Bischoff, and the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett, comes out from the back and stands at the top of the entrance ramp. Bischoff smiles as he says that, while he did enjoy the battle of egos going on in the ring just now, it's time to get down to business. Bischoff begrudgingly admits that he did promise Booker T would go to the head of the line of challengers when he returned, so Booker T WILL get his shot at Bash at the Beach--IF he manages to make it that far. As for Nash and Page...Bischoff says that they can forget all about getting a World Title shot because he's already booked them in a match at Bash at the Beach; a six man tag where Nash, Page and a third partner of their choosing will go up against the WCW Tag Team Champions, Totally Buff, and Mike Awesome! Bischoff then informs Booker that he shouldn't be thinking about Jeff Jarrett at all--he should be more worried about his match later tonight against "The Total Package" Lex Luger! Bischoff and Jarrett then disappear into the back again as Tony and Mike hype up the fact that Nitro has only just gotten started and already we have two huge matches set for Bash at the Beach! (A)
Quote:

We then cut to the back where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is with Cash and his new bodyguard, Smooth. Gene questions Cash about Smooth's involvement in Cash's match against Shane Helms last night at the Great American Bash, noting that "Sugar" Shane won't be here tonight due to the injuries he sustained during the attack. Smooth stands menacinly behind Cash as Cash explains that a rare talent such as his needs to be not only nurtured, but protected. Cash says that Smooth is going to make sure that all the people who hate him because of his unique talent won't get a chance to get their hands on him. And as far as Shane Helms is concerned, he should consider himself lucky for having been in the same ring as Cash. Gene tries to bring up the fact that Cash actually lost the match, but Cash just says that he's got important business to take care of and walks off. (D-)

vs.

Disco Inferno was on the winning side of a tag team match on Nitro prior to the Great American Bash, teaming with Chavo Guerrero Jr. to defeat the WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Billy Kidman, and "Sugar" Shane Helms, and tonight Disco picks up another win against Jamie Knoble. Knoble puts up a good fight and this is a decent match, but Disco picks up the win after hitting the Chart Buster and securing the three count to build a little more momentum.

Disco Inferno defeated Jamie Knoble at 6.28 by pinfall with a Chart Buster (C-)
Quote:

Following the match, we cut backstage where "Mean" Gene Okerlund is with Dustin Rhodes, and Gene asks Dustin about the events of last night, particularly Crowbar's attack which cost Dustin his chance to earn a shot at the US Title. Rhodes starts to answer the question saying that he doesn't know why Crowbar did what he did, but--

And that's as far as he gets as he is suddenly attacked from behind by Crowbar! Crowbar slams Dustin against he wall and bounces his head off a nearby table before putting the boots to Rhodes as he lies on the floor, with Daffney cheering Crowbar all the while as Gene is heard calling for help. (D)
Quote:

Following that brutal attack by Crowbar on Dustin Rhodes, we cut to one of the locker rooms where Mike Sanders is with Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. Sanders is once again pushing the idea of getting the Thrillers back together, asking Palumbo and O'Haire if they want to be losers for the rest of their, what is then going to be very short, careers? Or do they want to prove to the world that they are still the hottest up-and-comers in the wrestling business? O'Haire and Palumbo both seem down after failing to capture the WCW Tag Team Championships last night at the Great American Bash, and Sanders tells them that if they get the band back together, they can run this place for years to come...(C-)
Quote:

vs.

Lance Storm is coming off a big win last night when he earned himself another shot at the WCW United States Championship and he follows it up tonight with a dominant performance against "Screamin'" Norman Smiley. Storm puts on a clinic from bell to bell, winning the match by forcing Smiley to submit to the Canadian Maple Leaf.

Lance Storm defeated Norman Smiley at 3.21 by submission with the Canadian Maple Leaf (C-)

Having won the match, Lance Storm decides to get on the mic and he instructs the referee to "get that American piece of garbage" out of his ring--that being "Screamin'" Norman Smiley. Storm says that he beat two Americans last night to earn a shot at the United States Championship, but make no mistake about it; as soon as Storm wins that title it will once again cease to be the United States Championship and once again become the WCW Canadian Heavyweight Championship! The crowd boos until...

The reigning United States Champion, Rey Misterio Jr., comes out from the back. Rey says that he'll do anything in his power to keep the US Title out of the hands of someone who is as disrespectful as Storm is. He says that Storm needs a reality check and he'll get it at Bash at the Beach! Storm looks furious in the ring as we cut backstage to "Mean" Gene. (D+)

Quote:

This time "Mean" Gene is with The Mamalukes, who picked up a huge win last night at the Great American Bash. Gene starts to ask them about it, but then the interview is interrupted by...

The two members of 3 Count, Shannon Moore and Evan Karagias, who both laugh at the notion that The Mamalukes were impressive last night. Evan Karagias says that the only thing that is impressive about the Mamalukes is that they actually have the courage to show their faces in public when they are dressed the way they are. Moore and Karagias laugh it up, but Vito and The Bull aren't amused and they get right in 3 Counts faces, with Vito saying that if they've got a problem, then they can settle it in the ring next week! The smiles on Moore and Karagias' faces fade as they back off, and it appears that they don't want any of the Mamalukes after all. (D-)
Quote:

Elsewhere in the back, an angry looking Chris Kanyon is walking through the backstage area when he is approached by...

Stacy Keibler, of all people. Stacy says it was too bad about Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow losing last night, but she thinks that Kanyon might be better off without Bam Bam. Kanyon seems intrigued (for obvious reasons) when Stacy says that she has been looking for the right man to offer her managerial services to, saying that together her and Kanyon can go all the way to the top. Kanyon considers her words for a moment, then asks her to tell him more as the two walk off and we cut back to ringside. (C)
Quote:

vs.

This one is nothing but a squash as The Mamalukes dominates and easily pick up the win, hitting their double team catching hip toss into a sky lift slam on Harris and Johnny The Bull covers and picks up the win.

The Mamalukes defeated Chris Harris and Johnny Swinger at 3.15 by pinfall when Johnny The Bull pinned Harris following a sky lift slam (D-)

To everyone's great surprise (or not) the two members of 3 Count hit the ring and attack The Mamalukes after the match. They do a quick hit and run attack, quickly escaping back up the ramp as the announcers talk about the fact that Moore and Karagias backed down when it was a face to face confrontation, but they are more than willing to ambush the Mamalukes after their match. (D-)
Quote:

Jeremy Borash is backstage trying to secure an interview with "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, but Douglas is having none of it, saying that if he wanted some snot-nosed punk to ask him inane questions, he'd just talk to some of the fans here in North Carolina! Shane is still in a bad mood after last night and he says that what happened last night was a fluke and it is only a matter of time before "The Franchise" reclaims the United States Championship. "And if you don't believe me--prove me wrong!" Shane then walks off, leaving the young interviewer looking a bit overwhelmed. (D-)

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

w/vs.

"Primetime" Elix Skipper gets a huge opportunity here tonight as he faces Billy Kidman with the Cruiserweight Championship on the line.

As the action gets underway in the ring, Chavo Guerrero Jr. makes his way down to ringside to watch the action up close but, surprisingly, he never gets involved as he just allows the match to play out. Skipper holds his own well enough, but in the end the challenge of the Cruiserweight Champion is too much for Skipper to overcome as Kidman picks up the win after hitting the Shooting Star Press for another successful title defense.

Billy Kidman defeated Elix Skipper at 5.07 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press. Billy Kidman retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship (C+)
Quote:

"Mean" Gene Okerlund is backstage with The Chosen Ones; Jeff Jarrett, Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell. All three men are displaying their titles as Gene asks Jarrett about Booker T's return to WCW. Jarrett says that Booker isn't even worth talking about because even if he makes it to Bash at the Beach, and that is a big if, Jarrett says he'll out-wrestle Booker in five seconds flat. Gene doesn't quite believe that, but Jarrett says that once "The Total Package" gets done with Booker T tonight there will be nothing left for Jarrett to do at Bash at the Beach except to stomp what little remains of Booker like a bug and wipe it off his feet. So choke on that, slapnut! (C+)
Quote:

Back at ringside, Scott Steiner's music hits and the Steiner Brothers make their way out from the back as Tony informs us that their match--which has their WCW contracts on the line--is coming up next. As Scott and Rick make their way to the ring, Tony and Mike discuss the fact that tonight might be the Steiner Brothers' last night ever in WCW, which they both think is a strange thought. The Steiner Brothers start to get annoyed as they are waiting in the ring for their opponents, and Scott even yells for their opponents to "get your asses down here!". Finally, out from the back comes...

The WCW Tag Team Champions, Totally Buff! Apparently they are the Steiner Brothers opponents here tonight, which surprises both Tony and Mike as both of them say that they didn't think Eric Bischoff would pick one of his own, so to speak. Luger and Bagwell then slowly make their way toward the ring but as they do so...

Mike Sanders, Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak enter the ring behind the Steiners and attack! Tony wonders what the heck is going on as Bagwell and Luger are cheering the former Thrillers on, but only until Scotty Steiner suddenly hits a double clothesline on Sanders and Jindrak! "The Dog Faced Gremlin" dispatches Stasiak, and the ambush has failed here as the Steiner Brothers stand tall in the ring, calling for Bagwell and Luger to enter the ring and fight them.

Eric Bischoff then comes out from the back and stands next to Luger and Bagwell and he says that the Tag Team Champions are not the Steiners Brothers' opponents tonight. Bischoff says that he thought about booking them against The Insiders to pit his enemies against each other. He said he thought about Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. Hell, he thought about everyone on the entire WCW roster until the perfect solution finally came to him. Bischoff says that the team he has picked are going to be just as hungry and desperate for a win as the Steiner Brothers, because just like the Steiner Brothers, their opponents will also be fighting for a WCW contract. Bischoff pulls out two contracts and says that what he is holding in his hands are two one-year, full time WCW contracts, ready for the Steiner Brothers' opponents to sign as soon as they have beaten them. Bischoff then finally brings out the Steiner Brothers' opponents here tonight...

The Nasty Boys, who are making a surprise appearance here on Monday Nitro! (B-)

w/vs.

Tony calls this a battle between two of the most legendary tag teams in the history of professional wrestling, and Mike adds that Eric Bischoff made a smart choice with the Nasty Boys, who are not only a great tag team, but they know the Steiner Brothers very well from their previous battles against them. Tony also points out the added motivation for the Nasty Boys as they have WCW contracts waiting for them if they win here tonight. This match showcases from great, old school tag team wrestling as the Nasty Boys isolate Rick Steiner and wear him down, but of course he eventually fights back and tags in his brother. The Nasty Boys were able to hold their own against Rick, but "Big Poppa Pump" is on another level and it shows as he dominates both Knobbs and Saggs. Scott then hits a Steiner Flatliner on Brian Knobbs and covers him while Rick makes sure that Saggs can't break up the pin, and the Steiner Brothers are victorious here tonight.

The Steiner Brothers defeated The Nasty Boys at 10.03 by pinfall when Scott Steiner pinned Brian Knobbs following a Steiner Flatliner (B)

The Steiner Brothers have won the match and are still a part of WCW, but Eric Bischoff doesn't look too happy about that as he makes his way out from the back again. Bischoff says that the Steiner Brothers may have dodged a bullet here tonight, but he's far from done with them. Bischoff says that the Steiner Brothers will be in action at Bash at the Beach because they will be facing...Mark Jindrak...Shawn Stasiak...Sean O'Haire...and Chuck Palumbo in a four on two handicap match! We have another big match set for Bash at the Beach, which is already shaping up to be a huge event! (C)
Quote:

Mike Awesome comes down to the ring as Tony informs us that Awesome's match is coming up next, but Mike gets on the mic for a promo first. Awesome says that he dominated DDP from start to finish last night at the Great American Bash and it was only a stroke of bad luck on his part that allowed DDP to sneak off with the victory. Awesome says that he'll finish what he started last night at Bash at the Beach in that six man tag team match, but for now he wants his next victim to come down here because he's itching for a fight! (B-)

vs.

Poor Lash Leroux is in for a rough night here as he goes one on one with Mike Awesome, who seems intent on taking his frustrations out on Leroux. Awesome is in complete control of this one from start to finish, and he picks up the pinfall victory after delivering a brutal Awesome Bomb to his helpless opponent.

Mike Awesome defeated Lash Leroux at 2.22 by pinfall with an Awesome Bomb (C-)
Quote:

Backstage, Booker T is walking toward the entrance area as Tony informs us that our main event of the evening is coming up next, when Booker is stopped by The Insiders, Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page. Nash and Page tell Booker that there are no hard feelings and that they have his back tonight. Nash then adds that if Booker wins the World Title at Bash at the Beach, he'll know who should get the first title shot. Booker just walks off without saying anything, which seems to irk Nash especially, while Page tries to play peacemaker. As The Insiders start talking about who their partner should be at Bash at the Beach, we cut to ringside for our main event matchup. (B-)
Quote:

vs.

Mike Tenay brings up the fact that this is Booker T's first match in quite a while and he wonders if there is going to be any kind of ring rust for Booker, which could prove disastrous against someone like "The Total Package". Booker looks good early on though, beating Luger to the punch at every turn, causing no shortage of frustration for Luger. Luger finally does manage to get the better of Booker T by sticking a thumb in his eye and then picking him up and slamming him to the mat. The next few minutes belong to "The Total Package", who takes every shortcut he can find to maintain his advantage, but the tide turns once again as Luger misses a clothesline in the corner and Booker T comes back with a harlem sidekick! With the match clearly turning in Booker's favor...

The World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett, and Lex Luger's tag team partner, Buff Bagwell, make their way to the ring. Bagwell hops up on the apron and draws the referee's attention, allowing Jarrett to slip into the ring unnoticed. Jarrett tries to creep up on Booker, but Booker turns around just in time to come face to face with the man he will be facing at Bash at the Beach for the World Title. Jarrett tries to beg off, but Booker kicks him in the gut, grabs him by the head, and sends him over the top rope and onto the floor! The crowd loves it, but in the mean time, Luger has lined up his running forearm smash and he charges at Booker as soon as Booker turns around...but Booker ducks under it, kicks Luger in the gut and....BOOKEND!!! Booker makes the cover and 1...2...3!

Booker T defeated Lex Luger at 10.39 by pinfall with a Bookend (B)

Booker T has picked up a big win here, but Jeff Jarrett and Buff Bagwell hit the ring and goes on the attack again. True to their words earlier, The Insiders are out from the back as well and they come to the aid of Booker T, driving The Chosen Ones from the ring! Before signing off, Tony notes that it appears that the numbers advantage that The Chosen Ones used to have is no longer going to be a factor with the return of Booker T! (B+)

Great show hot off the back of a great Pay Per View. I'm really enjoying this and should comment more. I'm loving the fact that you have Kid Kash joined up with MI Smooth (almost reminiscent of THE Brian Kendrick and his one time bodyguard who's name escapes me). Kash is great and doesn't get much love in any other dynasties so it's good to see him used here....add that to another guilty pleasure of mine (The Mamalukes) getting used and you'll get nothing but thumbs up from me lol. I know Vito and Johnny get forgotten about a lot, but Big Vito was over like rover in the late 2000's, black singlet Vito was getting a hell of a reaction at one point. Keep up the good work

Woops, done goofed and posted my own show in this thread!

While I'm at it though, you're doing good work here! That was a creative use of the one night hire feature, and it fit the storyline really well.

The problem with the Mamalukes is that they start the 2001 mods always getting negative reaction notes because they aren't very good workers once they're statted out. But I'm a fan of them as well, and I'm really hoping you can keep the push going for them. Kid Kash is another one who seems to get left behind by a lot of games (typically due to his attitude and poor overness at the start of 2001 games, I would imagine) but he is a very talented soon-to-be veteran who can deliver some exciting matches and promos.

The Nasty Boys were an interesting pick up, even if only for one night, nobody sure saw them coming!

First of all, thanks for the comments guys. They are always much appreciated.

The Nasty Boys were indeed a one night hire and since both of them appeared to be under the influence of one thing or another during the match, chances are they won't be brought back anytime soon.

I was also a big fan of the Mamalukes so I'd say that you can definitely expect to see more of them. As for Kid Kash, I'm glad you guys are enjoying his push. He was one of those guys who didn't get a fair shake in my previous Quest so I wanted to give him a better shot at it this time around.
