Lightbulb Dev Diary #11: Crew Promotion

After doing some deep work on the engine itself, I decided that for now your crew will have a chance of stat gains after level ups and once at the start of each year.

A random stat will go up a point, but it will favor the stats you've used more often in the roll, meaning if you use a guy for Petty Crimes more often, his chance of that stat going up 1 point moves up as well.



But...his yearly salary may go up too. As he gets better, he'll ask for more cash to compensate himself. The way of the world.

The screen above will display at the end of each year, what stat went up, and how much more money they're asking for. Concise and simple to digest, the way i'm aiming the entire game to be designed.

Sounds nice and simple, but I'm a bit confused by the concept of "level up."

And in real life, the way I understand it, gang members don't ask their crew leader or boss for a bigger salary, unless they want to arouse suspicion and get themselves whacked. He might let them keep more of the money they take in on different scores because he thinks they deserve it.

This is in essence what's happening: A guy is asking for more because he's become more valuable to the crew. It's a game balance thing too I guess.

'Level Up' - In the game, when a crew completes a task, they gain some exp. If they cross the next level's requirement, they level up and possibly gain a random point to their stats. Eventually, you can 'burn' them if they become a liability or too expensive, or get too old to be useful (stats may stop increasing or even go down as they age).
