Default New Japan Pro Wrestling 2009 and Beyond: The Path of Light!

New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Quote:
New Japan Pro Wrestling has seen both the path of light and the path of darkness. 1972 was the birth date for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Inoki still had his mind clear at that time...until he became crazy with his MMA vs. Wrestlers "Worked Shoot Fight" obsession at the late 90s and leading up the the 21st century. This change didn't help New Japan at all.

Pro Wrestling NOAH, AJPW, other Japanese wrestling promotions saw lights due to the change in NJPW's product. This made NJPW lose balance in financial ways, made the IWGP heavyweight title lose it's credibility. The most important thing that happened was New Japan Pro Wrestling almost dying. Inoki sold it to Yuke's. Yuke's sold it to Bushiroad. This was the moment from Inoki being kicked out of the promotion, needed a new booker to show the promotion it's path to light again. Tiger Hattori with the help of other, made Gedo & Jado the bookers of New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Thus the journey from the dark path comes to an end, while the journey to the path of light continues. Will Gedo & Jado be able to work in order for New Japan Pro Wrestling to reach the top of the world?

New Japan Pro Wrestling
Presents…
G-1 Tag League. Day ~ 1
Quote:

~Tonight we have the matches from the G-1 Tag league tournament taking place. The winner of this tournament will receive $1000000, with a trophy and oppurtunity to challenge for the IWGP Tag Team Championship. The Tournament will take place in a round robin style. There are many future stars, Major stars, young lions in this tournament. This tournament should be good.

~The IWGP Junior heavyweight champion Mistico defeated Ryusuke Taguchi to retain the championship. After the match we see Prince Devitt step in to challenge Mistico for the IWGP Junior heavyweight championship. Prince Devitt one half of the "Apollo 55" with Ryusuke Taguchi claims that he will take vengeance for his parter and take the championship too. Prince Devitt is also in the Tag League tournament, so we will match this match after the tournament has ended.

~Tonight we also have the IWGP heavyweight champion Hiroshi Tanahashi teaming up with Koji Kanemoto and Hiroyashi Tenzan to face the IWGP Tag Team champions Brother Ray & Brother Devon teaming up with Yoshihiro Taijiri.

~We get higlights from the IWGP Heavyweight match that took place last week where Hiroshi Tanahashi became the new IWGP Heavyweight champion by defeating Shinsuke Nakamura. Shinsuke Nakamura promised that when the time is right he will strike again. Shinsuke Nakamura is also in the G-1 Tag League tournament, so everyone has a high expectation from him. Hiroshi Tanahashi’s challenger is still unknown at this point, but a challenger might soon rise.

~Togi Makabe who is this year's G-1 Climax winner is also in the G-1 Tag League tournament. We won't be seeing Tanahashi vs. Makabe anytime soon other than at the Tokyo Dome where the annual "Wrestle Kingdom" will take place.

Rating: 81

Quote:

~No Limit (Tetsuya Naito & Yujiro Takahashi) defeated Jushin Thunder Liger and Tiger Mask IV.

This match was a solid match, with Takahashi trying to berate Liger and Tetsuya running in on Tiger Mask. Tetsuya and Yujiro are still Junior heavyweights. Tetsuya gets some high offense, then tags in Yujiro to end Liger with “Limitless Dream”.

Winner: No Limit (Tetsuya Naito & Yujiro Takahashi)
Match Rating: 77

Quote:

~Kazuchika Okada & Hirooki Goto vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Masato Tanaka (Block A)

Kazuchika Okada is a young lion here and is trying to prove himself among the others. Ishii and Goto starts with a chop battle, which Ishii counters into a Irish whip followed by a shoulder block. Okada and Tanaka had good ups here. Masato chopped and elbowed Okada in the corner before hitting the Big boot on his face. Masato clears the house down, dropping Hirooki off the apron and cutting off Okada with a “German Suplex”. ~Masato Takana & Tomohiro ishii gains 2 points here in Block A

Winner: ~Masato Tanaka & Tomohiro Ishii
Match Rating: 72

Quote:

~Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) vs. Gedo & Jado (Block B)

This match had a good solid showing. Gedo and Jado showed their complete chemistry here tonight, near falls after near falls. Togi Makabe and Jado got into a strike contest, which eventually turned into a chops, and finally into elbows. Gedo takes Honma ringside and whips him off the guard railing, as Jado on the other hand brawls with Makabe.

Initially Jado was out powered here because Jado and Gedo are Junior heavyweights and Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma are heavyweights here. Gedo & Jado proved they can handle heavyweights, but that doesn’t mean they can defeat them. Gedo signaled for the Gedo clutch only for Makabe to cut him off the “Lariat”. ~Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma gains 2 points in Block B.

Winner: ~Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma
Match Rating: 76

Quote:

~Toru Yano & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Wataru Inoue & Yuji Nagata (Block A)

Toru Yano is a dangerous wrestler here, with his heelish persona and winning in any means necessary. Shinsuke losing the IWGP heavyweight title to Hiroshi Tanahashi caused him his momentum. Shinsuke looks to gain it back through winning the tournament, will he be successful?

This was a solid match. Shinsuke knows Yuji very well and vice versa, which usually was a advantage to both of them. The chops connected and the sequences to false finishes continued, until... Yano gets tagged in, while Nagata tags in Wataru. Yano does his usual trying to hold and take Inoue to the corner. Spears connected in the corner well before Yano Irish whips Inoue and spears him right in two.

Shinsuke comes right in and clears the house down, dropping Nagata off the apron. Shinsuke tries to hit a knee drop but nobody's home. Inoue hits some combination on Nakamura, but Nakamura cuts him off with a German. Nakamura gained quite of his momentum back ending Inoue with the “Bomaye” for a clean finish. ~Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano gains 2 points in Block A.

Winner: ~Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano
Match Rating: 86

Quote:

~Bad Intentions (Karl Anderson & Giant Bernerd) vs. AKIRA & Masahiro Chono (Block B)

Karl and Bernerd jump onto their opponents before the match started and brawled outside. Bernerd hits a devastating powerbomb on the floor with AKIRA holding his back in tremendous pain. Bernerd returns to the ring where, Anderson is taking care of Chono. Chono hits some good looking moves before Tagging in AKIRA. AKIRA gets some of the offence on Anderson.

Anderson makes a hot tag to Giant Bernerd who clears the house down. Giant slams AKIRA on and on again before signaling Anderson to finish it off quickly for the “Giant gun Stun”. AKIRA slips off and hits a Enzuigiri on both of them. AKIRA finally makes a hot tag for Chono. Chono tries to take Bernerd down, but was not successful. Bernerd then slams Chono before making a quick tag to Anderson.

Anderson stomps Chono, before lifting him up for the “Gun Stun” but Chono counters and hits snap suplex in return. Chono knocks off Bernerd off the apron, only for Bernerd to land on his head first knocking him out. Chono takes this chance to end Karl Anderson with the “Yakuza Kick”. ~Masahiro Chono & AKIRA gains 2 points in Block B.

Winner: ~Masahiro Chono & AKIRA
Match Rating: 78

Quote:

~”IWGP Tag Team Champions” Brother Ray & Brother Devon and Yoshiro Taijiri vs. “IWGP Heavyweight Champion” Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Koji Kanemoto.

This was a very solid match. Tanahashi had all the potential to carry this match on his own. Tenzan and Kanemoto played big part here. Taijiri and Kanemoto had good showing with the stiff strike and kick exchanges. Tenzan and Ray gets into the strike contest, with Tenzan hitting a scoopslam followed by a running elbow drop before tagging in Tanahashi.

This was where the action started, the tag champion showed why they the f’n champs in the first place. They kept short tag between them and Taijiri, a simple strategy but effective. Tanahashi knowing from the experiences in countless battle he had had, he showed why he was the f’n IWGP heavyweight champion of the world. He showed him that he can take any beating and still never give up.

Tanahashi hits multiple dragon screws on all of his opponents and signals Tenzan and Koji to take care of the tag champs outside the ring, while Tanahashi will care of Taijiri himself. After hitting the slingblade on Taijiri he cuts him off with a “High Fly Flow”.

Winner: ~“IWGP Heavyweight Champion” Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Koji Kanemoto.

Match Rating: 80

Quote:

~After the match ended, he addressed that he hasn’t been challenged for the IWGP heavyweight championship yet, he also asks if all the wrestlers here are afraid to step against him. He says that if anyone wants a shot against him, he came come now. Nobody shows up, Tanahashi says that he’ll wait for it. Tanahashi ends the show thanking the crowd and states that at Tokyo Dome he will retain. He also said that he will the "Ace" of New Japan forever.

AKIRA hits a good measured Enguiri on Honma. A cover in but Makabe breaks the count. Chono and Makabe gets in a brawl while Makabe whips Chono on the guard rail. AKIRA hits a hurricane holding Honma for the pin, but he kicks out. The match continued to flow in a good way. It was solid, with different exchange of hits. Akira calls for the finish but Honma counters with the headbutt. Finally Honma cuts off AKIRA with “Diving headbutt”. ~Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma gains 2 points in Block B.

Winner: ~Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma.

Quote:
~Hirooki Goto & Kazuchika vs. Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue. (Block A)

Yuji Nagata showcased himself in this match, showing how good he can be sometimes. Yuji takes on Okada and snaps him on the ground. Yuji locking in the headlock tries to weaken Okada. Okada being a young lion here is learning to know his place in this match. Okada still has lot to improve here and continues to learn his way through the match.

Irish Whip to the corner as Hirooki Goto hits Wataru with a back elbows. The blows were tough as it seemed to take effect. Hirooki then gets in a tug of war with Yuji. Goto and Yuji also battled in the G-1 this year, although both of them exchanged holds, Nagata gained the upperhand being more experienced than Goto.

Yuji hits a wheel kick on Okada, and following up with a big suplex. Goto broke the count from the referee, as Yuji and Goto starts brawling. Yuji sends Goto over the top rope. Back in the ring Jado whips Devitt into the corner and starts chopping him. Devitt eventually got a counter in and hits front dropkick before tagging in Taguchi. Taguchi clears the house down dropping Gedo off the apron.

Taguchi and Jado gets into an elbow striking contest. Taguchi gets a roll in, but Jado gets up at two. Taguchi lift up and slams Jado before hitting the elbow drop. Devitt shoves Taguchi and Taguchi shoves him back. A tension arises between the two. Prince Devitt leaves the ring without any further incident, as Taguchi seems a little worried and angry. How long will the “Apollo 55” last?

Rating: 80

Quote:

~Tomohiro Ishii & Masato Tanaka vs. Takao Omori & Manabu Nakanishi. (Block A)

Takao Omori is from “AJPW” first of all, before he also worked in “Pro Wrestling NOAH”, he is working as a freelancer so he is involved in the Tag league this year. This can be also said as “Legend” Yoshihiro Takayama also working in the G-1 Climax this year. So every promotion is involved in other promotion, because one will help the other in time’s need.

Manabu and Ishii gets it going with the usual combo exchanged, and Ishii being the monster brawler not going down that easily. Ishii gets some elbow combos with low kicks, mostly working on Manabu. Ishii gets countered as Manabu hits a lariat. Manabu goes for the cover but Tanaka breaks the count.

Manabu sends in Wataru to face Tanaka. Omori paces towards Tanaka, but gets knocked down instead. Omori back up again, but this time he hits a “Superkick”, which seems to take effect. Masato takes Omori to the ground trying to lock in the crossface, but Omori somehow reaches the ropes.

Running dropkick by Omori and he runs to hot tag Manabu, who clears the house down, knocking Tanaka off the apron, but Ishii gets right back at him with a “Release German”. Ishii works him more before cutting him off with “Ishii Driller”. ~Tomohiro Ishii & Masato Tanaka gains 2 points in Block A.

Winner: ~Tomohiro Ishii & Masato Tanaka.
Rating: 83

Quote:

~Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano and Black Tiger Mask IV vs. “IWGP Heavyweight Champion” Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Koji Kanemoto.

This is Nakamura and Hiroshi’s first face off against each other after Shinsuke lost the IWGP heavyweight championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi. Shinsuke’s team jumped on Hiroshi Tanahashi, triple teaming on him. Hioroyoshi Tenzan and Koji Kanemoto runned in for the save, but Yano and Black Tiger Mask IV took care of them. Shinsuke whips Tanahashi into the ring.

Shinsuke elbows him out, until Tenzan somehow managed to come from behind and hit him. This gave the enough time for Tanahashi to recover, while Shinsuke was brawling with Tenzan. This place is in “Chaos”. Shinsuke got the upperhand in the brawl between him and Tenzan. Shinsuke now sets his sight on destroying Tanahashi. Tanahashi wasting no time quickly rolls him for the pin, luckily Shinsuke kicks out at last minute.

Arm drags after arm drags, Tanahashi hits the “Dragon Screw”. Finally Shinsuke tags in Black Tiger Mask IV and Tanahashi tags in Koji Kanemoto. They both showed the brilliance of "Junior heavyweight" Wrestling. Tenzan brawled his way out of Yano’s tricks. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Shinsuke brawled again. Shinsuke whips Tanahashi to the ropes for a “Yazuka Kick”, but Tanahashi ducked and hits a “Release Dragon Suplex” for the pin, but Shinsuke kicks out at Two.

Yano and Hiroshi brawled, as Yano tried his tricks again, but Tanahashi countered most of them. Tanahashi signaled to take care of Shinsuke and Black Tiger Mask IV. Just like the previous day’s plan. Tanahashi follows with the “Sling Blade” and cuts off Yano with a “High Fly Flow”.

Winner: ~"IWGP Heavyweight Champion" Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Koji Kanemoto.
Rating: 88
Quote:

~After the match Shinsuke Nakamura & Hiroshi Tanahashi shared one more “Serious Stare” before Shinsuke exits.

~Hiroshi Tanahashi then starts thanking the crowd for their support. He also mentions about the issue about no challenger stepping in for his “IWGP Heavyweight Championship”. He again mentions that “are all of the wrestlers here afraid to step for the challenge?”, he seems to be frustrated until one challenger seems to step in …

Quote:

~Brock Lesnar.

~“Brock Lesnar” rushes towards the ring, and immediately starts punching Tanahashi off to the ground. The crowd pops in a thunderous way, to see a “former” WWE superstar here in NJPW. He lifts him up and “German Suplex”-ed him multiple times. Brock picked Tanahashi up in the air and the “F-5” connects. Brock drags Tanahashi outside. He breaks the guard rails with his monstrous strength, seting them up, and lifts Tanahashi to “F-5” him again on top of those guard rail metals. Tanahashi is “Broke in Two”.

~Brock Lesnar snatches the microphone from the announcer’s table, gradually not destroying it. He says that he was a piece of Tanahashi and wants his championship belt. He says that he will destroy Tanahashi. The next time he meets him it will be in this ring at “Final Battle X” and he will kill him if he has to. Brock Lesnar poses in the ring as the camera zooms in the bloodied face of Tanahashi…as it fades away. The show comes to an end.

~Some Notes:

IPW:UK have made a contract offer to Fregal Devitt, known as Prince Devitt in NJPW. It seems to a pay per appearance contract, they are wishing to give in about $1,800 per appearance, which is quite good in my opinion. If Devitt signs the contract he can used for 3 years. Only Devitt knows to answer, I'm not pushing him to accept it, but this can be a set up for a IPW:UK and NJPW relationship. Only time will tell.

WWE have increased their Broadcast Quality to HDTV, which is a good sign to improve in this business in terms of Broadcasting. WWE might also be extending their TV network deals this month. TNA and WWE seems to be extending their TV deals. The deals have reached agreement with both promotions.

~Prediction Key for "NJPW G-1 Tag League Day ~ 3".

~Manabu Nakanishi & Takao Omori vs. Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue. (Block A)

Manabu Nakanishi is in a bad mood having lost to Tomohiro Ishii and Masato Tanaka last night. He seems to win here, gaining 2 points at least to have some prestige. Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi are no strangers to each other, having fought each other countless times. Wataru Inoue & Takao Omori are Junior Heavyweight here.

Yuji and Manabu starts in the most traditional way of Japanese wrestling. Yuji seems to go for the back, while Manabu tries to wear the head down. They get into a striking exchange, until the Junior Heavyweights get the shining. Wataru Inoue a former IWGP heavyweight champion, gets the upper-hand here after taking Omori to the ground.

Manabu and Wataru clashes, with Manabu getting in some power moves and trying to knocking Wataru out. Wataru gets the hot tag to Yuji Nagata and Yuji hits a running “Wheel Kick”. ~Apollo 55 (Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi) vs. AKIRA & Masahiro Chono. (Block B)

There were some tension between the “Apollo 55” members, especially after their last night's match between “Gedo & Jado”. Gedo & Jado clearly out-smarted Ryusuke Taguchi. The tension occurred when Devitt was clearly frustrated as Ryusuke couldn’t win against the veterans. The humiliation came for the current IWGP Jr Tag team champions. If they can win again one of the best of New Japan Veteran “Masahiro Chono” and this former stablemate from the “Team 2000” AKIRA, they can prove the fans wrong and show that their loss was just a fluke.

Devitt clearly is in a serious mood, he runs at the ring of the bell and throws punches carelessly. Masahiro Chono snaps Devitt to the ground and the chin-lock connects. Devitt gets a tag to Ryusuke Taguchi, as they both hits double team “Elbow-Senton” on AKIRA. Devitt tells Rysuke to be careful out there and not lose again.

Ryusuke works on the legs trying to weaken them. Rysuke and Devitt keeps short tags between them, strategy is set, but still can they win against “Masahiro Chono”? Ryusuke counters Chono’s offense with a “Gedo Clutch II” mocking “Gedo & Jado” to whom they lost to.

Chono and AKIRA double teams on their opponents, but unsuccessfully gets countered with ‘Double Team Double Enzuiri” from Devitt & Ryusuke. Devitt tells Ryusuke to take care of Chono and lure him outside, which was successful. AKIRA tried to do something about it, but Devitt cuts off AKIRA with the “Bloody Sunday”. ~Apollo 55 (Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi) gains 2 points in Block B.

Winner: "Apollo 55" (Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi)
Match Rating: 76
Quote:

~Kazuchika Okada & Hirooki Goto vs. Toru Yano & Shinsuke Nakamura. (Block A)

Before the match started, Hirooki tells Shinsuke about this new rookie “Okada Kazuchika”. Okada bows before Shinsuke and asks him in the “Japanese” manner to join his stable. Shinsuke tells him if he can show a good performance tonight, then he can join his stable. They all began with handshakes.

Okada and Yano tries to wrestle, with Okada gaining the upper hand and slaming Yano onto the mat. Yano goes for the tricks again, but Okada counters with a neckbreaker. Okada shows Nakamura his improvements, to which Nakamura takes notice. Nakamura tells Yano to tag him in, as he will wrestle Okada now.

Nakamura and Okada wrestles, as Okada counters Nakamura with a Flapjack. Okada again locks in the Chinlock, but Nakamura counters into the Chinlock himself in an amazing fashion. Okada somehow reaches the ropes, but Nakamura slaps Okada. Which eventually fires up Okada. Okada whips Nakamura into the ropes, gets countered into a Irish whip himself, and finally Okada hits his first ever “Dropkick” on Nakamura, which looked amazing.

Nakamura is impressed with Okada. Okada tags in Goto, as both Nakamura and Goto tries to wrestle each other, with Nakamura hitting the “German Suplex” and follows up with the “Springboard Moonsault”. Nakamura works on Goto a little more and finally cuts him off with the “Bomaye”. ~Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano gains 2 points in Block A.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano
Match Rating: 74
Quote:

~After the match ended, Nakamura said that Okada is one hell of a rookie, he reminds Nakamura himself in his rookie days. Nakamura offers Okada a handshake, to which Okada accepts. Okada is now officially in Nakamura’s Stable “RISE”.

~Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) vs. Bad Intentions (Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson) (Block B)

Giant Bernard and Anderson attacks Makabe and Honma before the bell rang. Anderson works on Honma while Bernard works on Makabe. Bernerd initially drags Makabe into the ring and works on him, as the match officially begins. Bernard hits quite a good offense on Makabe and whips him into the ropes for a lariat. Makabe ducks and fires right back at Bernard. Makabe tells Bernard to “**** off” before Irish whipping him into the “Spear”.

Makabe tags in Honma and double teams on Bernard. Karl Anderson is screaming from the other side in anger. Makabe knocks off Anderson from the apron, before working on Bernard again. Bernard eventually fires back and counters Makabe. Bernard hits “Sitout Powerbomb” and Honma breaks the count.

Honma gets tagged in and charges on Anderson, who also got tagged in at the same time. Both of them clash and wrestles each other before Anderson teases the “Gun-Stun” but Honma hits a headbutt on Anderson. Honma works on Anderson enough and tries to finish him setting up the Diving headbutt, but Anderson cuts him off with the “Gun Stun”, and quick leverage pin for the upset win, while Bernard took care of Makabe from breaking the count. ~Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson gain 2 points in Block B.

Winner: "Bad Intentions" Karl Anderson & Giant Bernerd
Match Rating: 75
Quote:

~Makabe breaks out of Bernard’s hold and punches him off before Karl Anderson jumps in. Brock Lesnar enters with Team 3D, it seems that they have made an alliance. Tanahashi seems to be in a rage. Tanahashi immediately goes after Brock Lesnar, but Brock catches him with his montroues strength and hits a “Fall-away Slam”. Team 3D worked on Kanemoto as the match started to take flow.

Tanahashi and Brock Lesnar gets in the hot tag, both of them clashes again at the same time. Tanahashi seems to get adapted to Brock’s wrestling style. Gaining an opening Tanahashi hits a “Flying Forearm Smash”, again and again until Brock goes down. We then the clash between Tenzan and Brock. Brock is too much for Tenzan to handle. Brock and Kanemoto got a good preview, as Kanemoto gained a good strategy as quick pace to dodge and escape most of the Brock’s maneuvers.

It seems Brock’s team is in the lead here, as Tenzan is in trouble in Brock’s hand. Tenzan reaches to make a tag, but see’s “Team 3D” knocking Tanahashi & Kanemoto off the Apron. Finally wating no time Brock cuts off Tenzan with the devastating “F-5”.

~After the match, Team 3D and Brock Lesnar berates the “IWGP Heavyweight Champion” Hiroshi Tanahashi. Brock Claims he will take the IWGP heavyweight championship from him. Tanahashi seems to be an easy champion to beat says Brock. He lifts Tanahashi by the hair and “F-5”’s him on top of the IWGP heavyweight championship. Team 3D and Brock Lesnar are seen talking trash to the fallen opponents. The camera fades from Tanahashi’s knocked out face. The show comes to an end.
