You should be able to use GIMP on a mac and thats what I use.

True but then it makes it much more difficult to label the pictures if you're doing that.

When labeling, there's no other way, obviously. But if they aren't it's a little annoying. And indeed, when responding it's just best to refer to the picture in text.

I often post the full renders, but that's not a good idea as it takes a bunch of bandwidth every time. Better to resize it (easy through photobucket).
