Should have made a play for Genchiro Tenryu. Bringing him back in would have been a major event and you could have used him to put over some of the younger guys. Especially if you're at risk of losing Vader.

Besides that... I think you could sign nearly everyone that WCW just let go and shift out most of your own gaijin. Misawa wasn't a fan of most of them IRL and that's why they stayed in AJPW when the Exodus happened. He also disliked Stan Hansen and Steve Williams and was the major force behind depushing Stan in 1999 and early 2000.

Lance Storm and Mike Awesome are a great tag team, Dustin Rhodes would work well as a replacement for Stan Hansen, Fit Finlay is a hard-hitter that AJPW would take well to and Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio are of course junior stars all the way. Plus Stacy is eye-candy and the Japanese don't mind that at all.

There's the question of cost and size of course, but I think you should try to make plays for as many of them as possible. Awesome, Rhodes and Storm are the best candidates to sign, though.

THE FINAL FOUR
Previewing the case to be made for each of the four men remaining in the Triple Crown Tournament

Toshiaki Kawada for Triple Crown Champion
Since Misawa was eliminated, Kawada is now the man to beat in this tournament.
However, that statement in and of itself is a problem for Kawada.
Although Kawada is already a 3x Triple Crown Champion, he’s out to prove that he’s the class of AJPW and second to none.
Perhaps Kawada’s 2 biggest threats are 2 men who are out to show the world it’s a new era in AJPW. His semi-final opponent, Takayama, has taken his game to a new level and has all the momentum in the world on his side.
As for a potential final match against Akiyama, Kawada knows that Akiyama has a hunger to break the glass ceiling that the 4 Pillars have placed over him.

Yoshihiro Takayama for Triple Crown Champion
He legit shook the puro world when he upset Misawa in the 1st round of this tournament.
Takayama has been biding his time in UWFi and AJPW for a while, and many feel he hasn’t had the opportunity to show what he can do.
Now more intense and more vicious than ever, Takayama’s mission is simple: knockout/eliminate all of Misawa, Kawada, and Taue in short order in route to a tournament win and Triple Crown Championship.
What better way to announce yourself as the new king of Japan than to beat 3 out of 4 Pillars in consecutive matches?

Jun Akiyama for Triple Crown Champion
Akiyama is growing tired. Tired of being on the outside looking in.
Tired of the 4 Pillars of Heaven dominating AJPW.
Akiyama has been a patient man and no doubt feels his time is now.
Not only does he want to win it all, but in doing so he ideally hopes to take down 2 of the very men who have stood in Akiyama’s way: both members of the Holy Demon Army (Kawada & Taue).
One could say Akiyama has some Holy Demon’s he’s looking to exorcise*

Akira Taue for Triple Crown Champion
While his opponent Akiyama feels he's being held down, nobody is more familiar with that feeling than perhaps Taue.
Taue has spent a lifetime in the shadows of Misawa, Kawada & Kobashi.
Some consider him the Jannetty of the 4 Pillars; others say he’s a bridesmaid but never really the bride.
Taue gets no respect, and winning this tournament would surely silence the doubters and rightfully prove he belongs with his peers and would certainly bring career validation.
If Taue hopes to win it all, not only will he have to stave off young gun Akiyama, but potentially standing in his way of the Triple Crown in the Final? His Holy Demon Army partner: Toshiaki Kawada.

Jun Akiyama is the new Ace, it's undisputed fact. But what isn't undisputed is who his generational rivals are going to be. Taiyo Kea, Takao Omori and Yoshihiro Takayama are good starts.

Yeah good call on Tenryu!

Good thing is iirc he's freelance so at max he'll be in NJPW for 9-months. I look at Tenryu as money in the bank because, whenever he comes back to AJPW, there is big money in the forbidden son returning home story.

The injured Kenta Kobashi makes his way down to ringside. Not only will he do commentary for the final 3 tournament matches, but, seeing as he was the last man to hold the Triple Crown, he will present the belts to the winner.

**Post Match**
An injured Kenta Kobashi hobbles from the commentary desk to the ring with a tear in his eye and he looks to present his good friend and "Burning" stable mate with the Triple Crown. As Kobashi goes to hug Akiyama, Jun hits him with an Exploder and repeatedly assaults Kobashi on his injured knee with his victory trophy.

"Burning" stable mate Yoshinobu Kanemaru runs to the ring and wants to help get Kobashi out of there, but he reluctantly backs down to Akiyama and just leaves Kobashi alone.
Having destroyed 3/4 Pillars in one night and finally winning the big one, Akiyama declares that the 4 Pillars of Heaven are a memory and that "Burning" has been extinguished.
