Default Atlanta Hawks All Time Tournament

Hey there folks. I'm fairly new to these forums so take it easy on me. I don't even know if this is the right place for this kind of project.

Anyway, this is the plan: I seed all of the Atlanta Hawks teams in history by record. I put them into a bracket and then simulate the tournament. All games would be simulated on WhatIfSports.

I only decided to choose Atlanta because they are the 1st team in the NBA, using alphabetical order. I'm a huge "mark" for tournaments, and if enough people are interested, I could see myself doing these types of tourneys with other NBA teams, or perhaps even a different sport.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Default First Game Preview

In the 1st game of the tournament, it is the 1991-92 Atlanta Hawks taking on the 2007-08 Hawks.

The 1991-92 team was led by franchise icon Dominique Wilkins. The 32 year old was plagued with injuries, only playing in 42 games. He averaged just above 28 PPG. This is the main reason that this Hawks team finished 5th in the Central Division, with a record of 38-44. When Wilkins went down, it was up to 29 year old Kevin Willis to carry the offensive load. He performed admirably, averaging about 18 PPG. With Wilkins healthy for this tournament, this Hawks team could do some real damage.

The 2007-08 Hawks team was led by 26 year old Joe Johnson, but had the luxury of having 6 players averaging at least 10 PPG. These players were: Joe Johnson (21.7 PPG), Josh Smith (17.2 PPG), Marvin Williams (14.8 PPG), Mike Bibby (14.1 PPG), Josh Childress (11.8 PPG), and rookie Al Horford (10.1 PPG). This Hawks team barely made the playoffs as the 8 seed, but pushed the eventual champion Boston Celtics, to the limit, losing in 7 games.
The winner of this game will take on the #1 seed: The 2014-15 Atlanta Hawks.

Default Third Game Preview

The 2000-01 Atlanta Hawks were led by a young Jason Terry and veteran Toni Kukoc, both averaging just under 20 points a game. Unfortunately, Kukoc only played in 17 games that year. 34 year old Dikembe Mutombo almost averaged a double-double, also chipping in with 2.8 BPG. This Hawks team finished 25-57, obviously not making the playoffs.

The 2004-05 Atlanta Hawks are the worst team in franchise history, finishing 13-69. Antoine Walker was the leading scorer, averaging 20.1 PPG. The 28 year old also averaged 9.4 RPG. Al Harrington was the secondary scorer, averaging just above 17 points a game.

((OOC: Results will be posted tonight, any predictions are welcome.))

2000-01 vs. 2004-05

The 2000-01 Hawks blow out the 2004-05 Hawks 111-88.

Jason Terry had himself a good game, posting a statline of 22/6/6, but the MVP of the night was no doubt Toni Kukoc. He put up 21 points, dished out 10 assists, and grabbed 8 rebounds to secure the victory for his team. Dikembe Mutombo helped out with 10 points, 8 boards, and of course, 4 blocks.

Antoine Walker tried to lead his team to the 2nd round, but ultimately fell short. He scored 21 points, and added 10 dimes. Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue was the secondary scorer, posting 15 points.

The 2000-01 Atlanta Hawks advance to the 2nd round, where they will play the 2008-09 Hawks, led by Joe Johnson.

The 1980-81 Hawks weren't really led by just one scorer. They had 6 players that averaged over 12 points a game. John Drew led the team with just under 22 PPG. They finished the year 31-51, not making the playoffs.

Default Round 2: Game 1

Round 2: 2014-15 vs. 1991-92

The first game of the 2nd round saw the best record in franchise history - the 2014-15 Hawks - going up against the 1991-92 Hawks, who defeated the 2007-08 Hawks in the 1st round.
The #1 seed got the job done, as they beat the 91-92 Hawks 118-105. Al Horford had himself a night, dropping 34 points and grabbing 14 boards. Jeff Teague was the primary facilitator, dishing out 6 assists, to go along with 22 points.

On the opposing side, the 1991-92 Hawks were led by Dominique Wilkins who had a rough night shooting from the field, going 7/20, but feasted at the line going 15/19, and finishing with 30 points. Unfortunately, these Hawks were just overmatched, as they were outscored in every quarter.
The 2014-15 Hawks advance to the next round, where they will play the winner of the 2000-01 Hawks taking on the 2008-09 Hawks.
