Default Coaching at Grand Canyon University

Hey again everyone. I did a series on here about 6 months that lasted a couple weeks until I got a little frustrated with the game and decided to take some time off. I've gotten back into the basketball mood and would like to retry the challenge I set out for myself last time!

I will be taking over Grand Canyon University and replaying the history of NCAA basketball. We will begin with the 1938-1939 season but with modern day teams and modern day rules/settings. The reason we are starting with that season is because it was the first NCAA championship with the University of Oregon winning over Ohio State.

We will be using the 68 team tournament, NIT, CBI, and CIT as well as all of the pre-loaded pre-season tourneys. Player attributes will be 1-100 and players will be allowed to go pro after their freshman season. Anybody who transfers must redshirt unless they are a 5th year senior. Team prestige will not be randomized, and I do not know yet if I will remain at Grand Canyon or pursue other jobs when the time comes. Conference movement is set to limited and conference prestige has the option to change.

I will begin as a Level 7 coach with the following attributes:

Recruiting: 80
Scouting: 55
Offense: 75
Defense: 30

If anybody ever drops by and wants to leave a comment they will be much appreciated. I'm expecting that only a handful of people peruse these forums, but I love doing this to have a history of my teams.

Default Hired! Hiring New Coaches!

I have been announced as the new head coach of the Grand Canyon University Antelopes. The Antelopes have a prestige rating of 0 and we will try to work them up into a powerhouse or at least try and make them relevant in the WAC! The WAC has a prestige of 1 and New Mexico State is the team to beat as they are the only team with a respectable prestige rating. Now it is time to see how I am able to do. I am predicting an absolutely terrible season to begin with followed by multiple other bad seasons. I'm expecting that our nonconference games will be against the lowest rated teams in the game so that we at least have a chance for some wins, but I would expect we don't see double digit wins until year 3 at the earliest (and I think that may be a little optimistic).

Our first order of business is hiring the rest of our coaching staff!

Recruiting Coordinator: Luther Sosa
Scouting Director: Ralph Maya
Assistant Coach: Gregory Bowling

Our upcoming posts will be a preview of the roster and then our schedule for the season.

Default 1938-1939 Roster and Recruiting Preview!

Here is the roster for the 1938-1939 season! We have set the starting lineup and it looks like it will be a very slow season. As you can see here we have a ton of native Arizona players on the roster. 12 of our players are from Arizona, and we have one each from California, Oregon, and Colorado. The team has 4 seniors, 4 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 3 freshmen. All 8 seniors and juniors are on scholarship so we will have a lot of scholarships opening up the next two seasons. With how mediocre the lineup is going to look we may even be able to find some freshmen to come in and start next year. Also we will attempt to find replacements in the transfer market to help us improve. I'm looking forward to the future of this team!

Code:
Player # Pos Yr Ht Wt Sch Acd Status Hometown

Lawerence Dykes 4 SG Fr 6-0 202 Yes 22 OK Tucson, AZ
Now we have our 20 player call list! Our starting SF, SG, and PG this season are all seniors so we will definitely be attempting to find a few guards for next season. We are currently only looking at players with only "High" or "Very High" interest as we don't want to waste time on any longshots since our budget is very small. A large number of these players are from Arizona but we do have two internationals with one player from Canada and one from Italy. We have multiple 3 and 2 star players that are interested and we hope that we will be able to sign a few of them and we are excited to see what the scouting reports show us!

Default 1938-1939 Schedule and Roster Preview!

Here is our schedule for the 1938 season! We scheduled 15 non-conference games and you can see very clearly that the teams we have scheduled are all very bad. We scheduled every other team with 0 RPI and I believe our "hardest" game is at Princeton with their 6 RPI. Hopefully we can win a few of these games but we will see.

Here is our lineup and key players off the bench.

Starting Lineup:

C - Tanner Carter (SO)
PF - Isidro Garza (JR*)
SF - Henry Bell (SR)
SG - William McLoughlin (SR)
PG - George Jones (JR)

Breakdown:

Tanner Carter (C) - A solid inside threat and jump shooter who is a great offensive rebounder. He'll keep plays alive but it will remain to be seen if his rebounds will go to waste or if we will capitalize on them.

Isidro Garza (PF) - A solid inside threat who doesn't bring much else to the table.

Henry Bell (SF) - Bell doesn't bring much to the table at all but is better than anything else we have on the bench. There's a good chance that we have some of our Power Forward's off the bench play Small Forward since they are better than Bell.

William McLoughlin (SG) - McLoughlin is the best jump shooter on the team as long as they aren't 3 pointers.

George Jones (PG) - Jones is bad at everything and the only reason he is starting is because everyone else is just worse than him.

Bench:

6th - C Thomas Lucia (JR) - Lucia is a solid inside player on offense who doesn't bring much on defense. He has the best inside shooting on the team. We expect a lot of minutes from him.

7th - PF Dannie Shropshire (SR) - Shropshire is a decent inside player who will see serious minutes and isn't too terrible compared to everyone else.

8th - SF Avery Dietz (SR*) - Dietz is a good free show shooter but he probably wont get to the line much.

9th - SG Fredric Swanson (JR) - Swanson is also a good free throw shooter who excels at nothing else. He is an athletic guy though which may help him a bit.

10th - SG Lawrence Dykes (FR) - Dykes has the potential to be a solid inside shooter and 3 point shooter and is an elite free throw shooter. He also has the potential to be a solid defender. As of now it looks like he may redshirt so he can develop but that decision has not yet been made.

November 1938

Breaking News

We have new that SG Fredric Swanson is suspended for the semester due to poor academic standings. He projected to be our first guard off the bench so this is a big blow.

November 11, 1939

Abilene Christian (0-0) @ Grand Canyon (0-0)

Final Score: Abilene Christian - 30, Grand Canyon - 41. Tanner Carter had a double-double in the first half and finished with 13 points and 18 rebounds. I'm not sure if our defense is "that good" or Abilene Christian's offense is just very bad. The game wasn't as close as the scoreline indicated as we held a 15-18 point lead all throughout it and got out to an early 11-1 lead. Isidro Garza added on 10 points and 5 rebounds while William McLoughlin fouled out with 2 points and 3 rebounds. Henry Bell was a horrendous 3-14 with 6 points. This is probably the worst team we will face this season so it was nice to get our first win!

November 15, 1938

North Dakota (0-1) @ Grand Canyon (1-0)

Final Score: North Dakota - 46, Grand Canyon - 52. North Dakota had the lead throughout the entire game but by only by 4-5 points. We were able to overtake them with about 3 minutes left and didn't look back. Tanner Carter had 10 points and 14 rebounds (9 offensive) for his second straight double-double. Isidro Garza also had 5 rebounds and George Jones had 10 points. William McLoughlin fouled out again in this one. Fun Fact! Tanner Carter is currently 3rd in the nations in RPG with 16. We will see how long he can keep it up.

November 20, 1938

Omaha (0-3) @ Grand Canyon (2-0)

Final Score: Omaha - 68, Grand Canyon - 66 in OT. This one was difficult because we had a 31-16 lead before a 20-2 run Omaha. It came down to missed rebounds though as we left a lot of points on the board in OT and in regulation. Omaha hit a buzzer beater to win the game. Henry Bell had 22 points and 6 rebounds while Isidro Garza had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Tanner Carter had a down game with only 6 points and 9 rebounds.

November 24, 1938

Umass Lowell (0-2) vs. Grand Canyon (2-1)

Final Score: Umass Lowell - 43, Grand Canyon - 33. This is the team I expected to see this season. We shot 25% and only scored 12 points in the second half. Tanner Carter and Isidro Garza had 7 points and both Carter and Henry Bell had 7 rebounds. William McLoughlin went 0-7 from the field and George Jones went 1-11.

November 28, 1938

Incarnate Word (1-2) vs. Grand Canyon (2-2)

Final Score: Incarnate Word - 66, Grand Canyon - 51. Incarnate Word got out to an early lead and never looked back. Tanner Carter had 10 points and 6 rebounds while George Jones had 15 points. After 2 wins to start the season we have lost 3 straight games, but I am not very upset about it as I knew all of these games were tossups given the low quality of the teams involved.

Overall Record: 2-3
Home Record: 2-3
Away Record: 0-0

Recruiting News

I am happy to announce that we had two recruits sign with us before the first game of the season! PF Ben Linker and SG Gerald McGough will both be representing the Antelopes next season! Linker was also interested in Northern Arizona University and he will be a huge upgrade next season and will make an impact as a freshman. McGough didn't have any other schools on his radar and we probably could have waited to offer on him, but we liked him as one of our top 4 targets after some of the higher end players with interest had a drop in interest and become unable to sign. He will be a starter next season and is a better shooter than anybody currently on our team with the potential to be an elite shooter.

December 1938

December 3, 1938

Grand Canyon (2-3) vs. Northern Kentucky (0-6)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 68, Northern Kentucky - 56. Tanner Carter picked up two fouls in the opening minute but bounced back with 11 points and 11 boards while only picking up one more foul the rest of the game. Isidro Garza had 15 points and 5 rebounds while William McLoughlin had 12 points. Henry Bell and Avery Dietz both had 10 points. George Jones left with an injury and will miss 241 days due to a ruptured achilles. We are now down to 13 players on the roster with the injury and suspension.

Team News:

With the injury to George Jones his starting spot in the lineup will be taken by Lawrence Dykes.

December 7, 1938

Grand Canyon (3-3) vs. Bryant (3-3)

Final Score: Grand Canyon 49, Bryant - 63. We committed 15 turnovers in the first half alone en route to a 12 point halftime deficit (We had 15 turnovers and 21 points). We shot well but couldn't overcome the turnovers while Bryant took advantage. Lawrence Dykes led the way with 11 points and both Tanner Carter and Isidro Garza had 9.

December 9, 1938

Grand Canyon (3-4) vs. Houston Baptist (2-4)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 48, Houston Baptist - 78. It took over 8 minutes for us to get our first rebound! That may be a NCAA record! We trailed 42-28 at halftime and were out-rebounded 19-4 in the first half. We shot 59% but had no chance as Houston Baptist just rebounded every miss until they eventually scored. We were thoroughly outclassed here as Houston Baptist destroyed us on the boards. Tanner Carter had 10 points and 5 rebounds to lead the way in our loss.

December 13, 1938

Grand Canyon (3-5) vs. Howard (0-8)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 66, Howard - 58. This is one I was hoping he would win and it is a great morale boost. Tanner Carter had another great game, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for another double-double, his 4th of the season. Only 4 players have more double-doubles than him. Lawrence Dykes had 12 points despite 2-10 shooting thanks to making all 8 of his free throw attempts. Henry Bell also had 12 points (but only shot 4-10 from the free throw line) and added on 6 rebounds. Avery Dietz scored 9 points off the bench (1-6 from the field but 7-8 from the line) and had 5 rebounds of his own. There was an interesting possession early on in this game where Howard had 6 offensive rebounds on one possession!

December 16, 1938

Grand Canyon (4-5) vs. SIU-Edwardsville (1-8)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 65, SIU-Edwardsville - 60 in OT. We came back from a 6 point deficit with 2 minutes left, including a buzzer beater 3 by William McLoughlin to send it to overtime! Tanner Carter had 11 points and 9 rebounds while Isidro Garza had 13 points and 8 boards. William McLoughlin added on 8 points of his own as we overcame 19 turnovers in this one.

December 20, 1938

Grand Canyon (5-5) vs. New Orleans (2-7)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 44, New Orleans 56. We kept clawing back in this one but the turnovers killed us as we committed 14 (twice as many as new Orleans) and everytime we went on a run it was killed by turnovers. Isidro Garza had 14 points and 7 rebounds and Henry Bell had 10 points and 8 boards in the losing effort. Tanner Carter had a down game with 6 points and 6 rebounds.

December 24, 1938

Grand Canyon (5-6) vs. North Carolina Central (3-8)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 68, North Carolina Central - 64. Thomas Lucia had 13 points off the bench and Isidro Garza had 12 of his own. Tanner Carter scored 9 and both Henry Bell and William McLoughlin had 8. McLoughlin and Lawrence Dykes both had 4 assists which is the most assists any player has ever had in a game for us.

December 29, 1938

Grand Canyon (6-6) vs. Maryland Eastern Shore (0-11)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 64, Maryland Eastern Shore - 55. Tanner Carter had another double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Henry Bell added 17 points and 7 rebounds in a stellar outing. We won this one despite shooting only 30.6% from the field as we won the turnover battle (7 to their 15). This was a good way to end the month as we record 2 straight wins. These are obviously "cheap" wins as they are all against bottom feeders but it is nice to get wins in to help the team record, morale, and hopefully tell recruits we can at least win games and not end the season with only 2-3 wins.

Recruiting News

3 star SF Joe Bushnell has agreed to play for Grand Canyon next year. Bushnell is from Arizona. This is the 3rd scholarship we have handed out and Bushnell will definitely start for us next season. He has a developing inside game but is a very good 3 point shooter and handles the ball well. He was also interested in BYU, Texas, Tech, and UCLA but none offered him a scholarship.

Grand Canyon (7-6) vs. NJIT (4-12)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 38, NJIT - 51. We got into foul trouble early as 3 players had 4 fouls early in the second half. The bench was called upon and they severely disappointed, playing 69 minutes and scoring only 4 points. FOUR. We played really poorly in this one and I would guess it was our worst showing as a team so far.

January 6, 1939

Grand Canyon (7-7) vs. Dartmouth (4-10)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 60, Dartmouth - 51. We got into foul trouble again as both Henry Bell and Isidro Garza fouled out and William McLoughlin finished with 4 fouls. Bell had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists to lead the way for us though. Tanner Carter had 7 points and 9 rebounds. This was a good way to end our non-conference schedule.

January 12, 1939

Chicago State (0-15) vs. Grand Canyon (8-7)

Final Score - Chicago State 49, Grand Canyon - 47. This one definitely stings! We got out to an early lead but went through a long stretch in the 2nd half where we couldn't score. We came back to finish the game but Chicago State won on a buzzer beater that prevented the game from going to overtime. Tanner Carter recorded his 6th double double (11th in the nation) with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Isidro Garza had 10 points and 6 rebounds. This season we have really lacked that consistent scorer which is not surprising given the lack of talent on the team. We are looking forward to having that next year and in the future.

January 14, 1939

New Mexico State (8-8) vs. Grand Canyon (8-8)

Final Score: New Mexico State - 74, Grand Canyon - 54. We played pretty well in this one despite losing by 20. New Mexico State is one of the best teams in the conference and shot insanely well. We shot 47% but couldn't overcome our 18 turnovers and foul trouble (3 starters with 4 fouls again). Lawrence Dykes and Henry Bell both had 10 points and Thomas Lucia had 6 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Tanner Carter only played 19 minutes due to his foul trouble.

January 19, 1939

Grand Canyon (8-9) vs. Utah Valley (6-10)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 59, Utah Valley - 49. Our first conference win! Henry Bell had 18 points and William McLoughlin had 12 points. Tanner Carter again got into foul trouble and played only 25 points. His numbers have started to drop and he only had 2 points and 2 rebounds.

January 21, 1939

Grand Canyon (9-9) vs. Seattle (11-5)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 40, Seattle - 55. Tanner Carter fouled out in 26 minutes but recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. It was Carter's 7th of the year (11th in NCAA). Avery Dietz had 5 assists in this one off the bench in 17 minutes, the most anyone has had in a game.

January 28, 1938

Grand Canyon (9-10) vs. UMKC (3-15)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 48, UMKC - 75. UMKC wiped the floor with us. We committed 18 turnovers (they committed 17) but they shot 61% in this one and could not be stopped in a great effort. Tanner Carter had 8 rebounds but only 2 points and Thomas Lucia had 10 points off the bench but fouled out. The bench scored 23 of our 48 points in this one.

Cal State Bakersfield (2-18) vs. Grand Canyon (9-11)

Final Score: Cal State Bakersfield - 69, Grand Canyon - 63. These games are rough because we beat ourselves. We shot 54% from the field but missed 10 free throws and committed 15 turnovers (to 8 from Bakersfield). Henry Bell had a nice game with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists and Tanner Scott had 9 points and 9 rebounds. 3 players fouled out including Avery Dietz in only 10 minutes! The one thing I haven't learned in this game is how to limit turnovers as even when we have a game with a small amount of turnovers it is always more than the other team. We also are dead last in NCAA in 3 point field goal percentage at 15.1%. That's not a typo. We do have the 3rd best three point defense as teams are only shooting 24%, but that is simply from playing bad teams, evidenced by us not even being the best team in the conference despite being 3rd in all of NCAA.

February 4, 1939

UT-Rio Grande Valley (4-16) vs. Grand Canyon (9-12)

Final Score: UT-Rio Grande Valley - 53, Grand Canyon - 39. This one should have been ours but the inability to shoot and turnovers killed us. Our opponents went 5-10 from the 3 point line which is what doomed us as it killed any run we went on. We lowered our turnover numbers here with 11 (still 3 more than Rio Grande Valley). Lawrence Dykes had 13 points and Tanner Carter had 8 points and 8 rebounds in a game where he fouled out.

February 9, 1939

Grand Canyon (9-13) vs. New Mexico State (14-9)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 41, New Mexico State - 64. New Mexico State predictably beat up on us here, and we committed 21 turnovers to their 15. The biggest thing with the turnovers I have noticed is that it isn't the other team getting a ton of steals (both teams in this one had 7 steals) but just nonsensical turnovers that can hopefully be avoided in the future. Isidro Garza had 7 rebounds and Thomas Lucia had 9 points off the bench in the losing effort.

February 11, 1939

Grand Canyon (9-14) vs. Chicago State (2-21)

Final Score: Grand Canyon - 47, Chicago State - 54. Man sometimes it really feels like the game is against you and nothing is going your way. We squandered a 11-0 lead to start the game and then a technical foul (2 points scored against us) and a missed dunk on a breakaway (2 points missed out on) really cost us as the game wound down. We also committed 3 more turnovers than Chicago State and had three players foul out. 2 of their 3 wins this season have come against us. Tanner Carter had 10 points and 12 rebounds to pick up another double-double, his 8th of the year (he's 17th in the nation). Isidro Garza and William McLoughlin both had 10 points as well.

February 16, 1939

Seattle (15-8) vs. Grand Canyon (9-15)

Final Score: Seattle - 68, Grand Canyon - 58. We played with Seattle for most of the game but got cold right when they started hitting 3's (they went 10-20 on 3's). Tanner Carter had 12 points but only 1 rebound and Isidro Garza had 10 points. Avery Dietz had 8 points and 9 rebounds off the bench for us. Hopefully we'll be able to pick up a 2nd conference win this season and get to 10 wins.

February 18, 1939

Utah Valley (12-12) vs. Grand Canyon (9-16)

Final Score: Utah Valley - 54, Grand Canyon - 60. We have two conference wins and both are against Utah Valley (They are 7-1 against everyone else in the conference). Henry Bell had 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the way. Tanner Carter had 9 points and 11 rebounds, and William McLoughlin had 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

February 25, 1939

UMKC (7-19) vs. Grand Canyon (10-16)

Final Score: UMKC - 71, Grand Canyon - 62. This was by far our best game of the season. We can't control a team shooting over 60% against us, but we played superb in this game and we would be undefeated if we had played like this every game. William McLoughlin, Lawrence Dykes, and Tanner Lucia all had 11 points and the bench had 23 points in this one. This was an encouraging step as we move towards the end of the season.

Final Score: Grand Canyon, 44, Cal State Bakersfield - 43. We got off to a very slow start in this one. Through the first 11 minutes we had 4 points and 7 turnovers. We were able to come back though as Lawrence Dykes made one of two free throws with 7 seconds left to give us the lead. We committed 17 turnovers to 8 by Bakersfield and it was nice to win one with such a bad turnover margin. Lawrence Dykes had 13 points and Henry Bell had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Grand Canyon (11-17) vs. UT-Rio Grande Valley (7-21)

First Round

#7 Grand Canyon vs. #2 Utah Valley

Final Score: Grand Canyon 55, Utah Valley - 56. Dannie Shropshire. Our season came down to a shot by Dannie Shropshire. I don't know why he was in the game or why he shot the ball, but he missed which should come as no surprise. Isidro Garza had 13 points and William McLoughlin had 10, but it came down to a Dannie Shropshire jumper. Avery Dietz had 8 off the bench but Shropshire took the shot. Tanner Carter had 8 points and 8 rebounds. This season has shown me that I can't wait to have depth through recruiting. Right now our starters will be worse than our bench in 5 seasons, and our bench won't even be fit for D3 basketball. We committed 17 turnovers and had only 2 steals.

March Madness

Here is the NCAA tournament for the 1938-1939 season!

First up is the West region!

This one went pretty smoothly in the first round with the only upset being 9 seed UNLV beating 8 seed Arkansas. The 2nd round broke some brackets though with 7 seed Villanova taking down 2 seed Kansas and 6 seed Duke destroying 3 seed UAB. 4 seed BYU took down 1 seed Georgetown in the Sweet Sixteen but lost to 7 seed Villanova in the Elite Eight!

Next up is the Midwest Region!

11 seed Stanford took down 6 seed North Carolina in the first round and then 3 seed Oklahoma State in the 2nd round! Their Cinderella run ended in the Sweet 16 though with a 31 point loss to 2 seed Michigan State. 1 seed Creighton lost in the 2nd round to 9 seed St. Mary's. Notre Dame beat them in the Sweet 16 and then beat Michigan State to advance to the Final Four!

Next up is the South Region!

10 seed UCLA took down 7 seed Niagara in the first round and in the second round 6 seed Texas beat 3 seed Memphis. Texas then beat 2 seed Syracuse in the Sweet 16 and then took down 1 seed Kentucky to advance to the Final Four!

Next we have the East Region!

We had a few big upsets in this one headlined by 12 seed Siena taking down 5 seed St. Joseph's. 11 seed Boston College took down 6 seed Florida and 10 seed West Virginia beat 7 seed Maryland. None of them could advance to the Sweet 16 though. 4 seed Minnesota then beat 1 seed Tennessee and 3 seed Gonzaga beat 2 seed Pittsburgh. Minnesota then beat Gonzaga to punch their ticket to the Final 4! Only one of the 1 seeds and 1 of the 2 seeds made it to the Elite 8.

Final 4 Time!

This was a surprise to see two 4 seeds, a 6 seed, and a 7 seed in the first Final Four! 6 seed Texas dismantled 7 seed Villanova and 4 seed Notre Dame barely beat 4 seed Minnesota to set up the championship game! Texas showed up big and beat Notre Dame by 11 in the championship! Congrats to the Texas Longhorns!

We thank these 4 seniors for their contributions this season as without them we would have had a difficult time being competitive in any of our games. They obviously each had only one season under their belt so won't go among any of our career leaders but they may be among our single season leaders for a while until we load the team up with higher quality talent. Their names will be remembered in Grand Canyon history as our first graduating class!

We finished this season 12-18 which is better than I expected and we were able to be competitive in a lot of our losses and if we had limited turnovers could have come close to a winning record. We do have to take this with a grain of salt though as we had a terrible strength of schedule playing all our non-conference games against weak opponent. Every non-conference team we played ended with a losing record. We actually fared better on the road (9-8) than at home (3-9). We won our first 2 home games of the season and then went 1-9 the rest of the season.

Here is how the season went for us:

As you can see we weren't good at many things this year, as free throw percentage is the only thing where we ranked in the top 140 for team stats. We were 3rd in defensive rebounds allowed and 4th in blocks allowed but that probably has to do more with the snail tempo we had in our games as well as the lack of strength in our schedule. We were also 38th in points allowed but again that has no bearing on us actually being good, just our opponents being bad. We ended dead last in 3 point percentage at a paltry 15%. Our RPI was predictably bad at 351, making us the last team in basketball.

Our recruiting class was ranked #226 in the nation, the 6th best in the conference. In the future we will try and get that higher but the 0 prestige made it difficult, and it is good to say that these 4 players we brought in are already better than any of our current starters so we will get a big boost.

1939 Offseason

We had a couple teams change conferences this year as Belmont left the Ohio Valley Conference for the Horizon League and Northern Kentucky left the Horizon League for the Ohio Valley Conference.

I also was planning on changing the prestige of the Big East from 4 stars to 5 but it seems that with the performances of their teams it was updated automatically! I am going to leave the AAC as a 4 star conference right now so their teams will show up in the Mid-Major poll.

ALSO! I am proud to announce that our team prestige has gone up from 0 to 1! This is a small change but it is so much nicer to see that 1 than 0 and we are trending in the right direction even if it is a small increase.

Here is our roster for the season:

Code:
Player # Pos Yr Ht Wt Sch Acd Status Hometown

Marquis Bitner 22 SF Fr 6-4 205 No 44 OK Las Vegas, NV
As you can see we have two walk-on freshmen. Justin Gist is a SG from Las Vegas, Nevada who is a good shooter and Marquis Bitner a SF who is also from Las Vegas, Nevada who is a very good ball handler and offensive rebounder. These two will probably play minutes for us this season or we may consider redshirting them.

Here is our call list this season:

Steven Davis PG 6-3 205 * Very High Arizona
Dan Gower PF 6-8 230 *** High Arizona
Joseph Crawford SG 6-5 194 ** High Texas
Philip Quick PG 6-4 200 ** High Arizona
Matthew Sipes PF 6-11 212 ** High Texas
Murray Tweedy SG 6-2 176 * High Texas
Peter Martin SG 6-3 177 * High Australia
Markus Vaught PG 6-1 181 * High Utah
Our call list is rather local but we do have one Australian on it. We will be doing a lot of scouting as on top of the high star players we did a lot of sorting of the 1 star players to find players who were very good scorers, rebounders, and passers in highschool. We are hoping to improve our defense and rebounding as well as finding some players who can take over a game on offense by scoring and dishing out assists. Nobody averaged over 2 assists last season so I am hoping to find a prolific passer or two so that we can get more open looks.
