Awesome to see you back, and in 87 again, Crossface! It's a good idea to trim back the fat on TV reports, you don't want to get burned out and that can be one of the easiest and quickest ways to do so. I look forward to what you have in store.

World Championship Wrestling
Date: Week 1 March 1987
Announcers: Tony Schiavone & David Crockett
Venue: Norfolk Scope (VA)
Attendance: 11,177

Quote:
Barry Windham vs. Black Bart
Barry Windham and Black Bart go toe-to-toe in the opener. Not much of note here, mostly a show-off match for Windham who defeats Bart in just under 10 minutes following a superplex and floatover pin.

Winner: Barry Windham
Grade: (C+)
Quote:
Tim Horner vs. Lex Luger w/ JJ Dillon
Lex Luger, accompanied by JJ Dillon, defeats Tim Horner with the Human Torture Rack in a glorified job match.

Winner: Lex Luger
Grade: (C-)

Interview
Tony Schiavone hosted JJ Dillon & Lex Luger at the podium following the contest. Dillon ran down Ole Anderson and says the Horsemen upgraded by officially making Lex Luger a full fledged member of the group.

Grade: (C+)
Quote:
The Rock n' Roll Express vs. Johnny Ace & Tommy Angel
The Rock ‘n Roll Express displayed their tag team prowess against the makeshift team of Johnny Ace & Tommy Angel. The commentary team points out that the RnR Express are firmly in the NWA World Tag Team title hunt as the pin Angel following a double dropkick.

Winners: The Rock n' Roll Express
Grade: (C-)
Quote:
Interview

Next, Tony Schiavone hosted NWA President Jim Crockett. Crockett announced that Clash of the Champions, a special TBS Network event, would be shown live on TBS in a few weeks. Be sure to tune in to next week’s program to find out who will challenge Ric Flair for the NWA Heavyweight championship!

Grade: (D-)
Quote:
"Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin w/ Precious vs. Shaska Whatley w/ Paul Jones

"Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin w /Precious took on Shaska Whatley w/ Paul Jones in the next matchup. Whatley took the advantage, jumping Garvin as he was taking off his trademark gloves and jacket. Garvin battled back however and defeated Whatley to the dismay of Paul Jones ringside.

Winner: Jimmy Garvin
Grade: (D)

Post match

As Garvin was securing the 3 count, Ric Flair came out and began cat-calling at Precious. A livid Jimmy Garvin, jumped out the ring chased him off as the program went to break

Grade: (B-)

Interview

Following a break, Schiavone had a still understandably upset Garvin and Precious at the podium. Garvin told Flair that he was tired of him making advances at his wife and he was fixing to shut Flair’s mouth for good!

Grade: (C+)
Quote:
United States Championship: Nikita Koloff (c) vs. "Captain Redneck" Dick Murdoch

United States champion Nikita Koloff had a title defense scheduled against "Captain Redneck" Dick Murdoch in the program's main event. It was a seesaw brawl of a matchup between the two extra tough competitors.

The finish came after Nikita knocked Murdoch down with a stiff Russian Sickle lariat for what looked like a clear victory. However, Ivan Koloff created a distraction for referee Teddy Long allowing Vladimir Petrov to ambush Nikita with a chain! Koloff hit the mat and Murdoch Murdoch made the cover as David Crockett cried out a travesty in justice!

Winner and new champion: Dick Murdoch
Grade: (B-)

Post match

Under Ivan’s direction, Petrov put the boots to the big Russian as Murdoch scurried away with his newly won prize.

The beat down continued until Dusty Rhodes rushed from the back and made the save as the program went off the air.

Grade: (B+)
Show Rating: B- (increased our pop in 9 regions, decreased in 2 regions)
1.51 TV rating

Prediction Contest Update

Couple of thoughts:

-Seems like Dirty Dick winning the US title really threw people for a loop, as only one person predicted his victory.
-I've expanded WCW to 2 hours starting this episode as I felt I couldn't fit in enough with 90 minutes. Hopefully it's not overkill.
-Overall, I'd be real interested to know what people thought of the show write up. I felt it lacked a lot of detail, but as I said earlier, trying to avoid burnout. I will ratchet it up for special events.

...And that said, on to the next prediction card! Remember, to be eligible to win, you must predict on at least 2 episodes of WCW and the Clash event.

I liked the write-up, it was paced nicely and a breeze to read through.

Ron Simmons
Ivan Koloff - Ivan costing Nikita the title was a big shock, I look for him to pick up some wins here and there to stay relevant until the big Koloff vs. Koloff matchup.
Bubba Rogers
Sullivan & Barbarian - This is a neat team, but I would dig seeing you bring together the Powers of Pain too.
Midnight Express - Next US Tag champs right here! The MX are forever!
Jimmy Valiant
Tully Blanchard

Contender: Barry Windham
Barry and Flair would make an awesome first Clash main event!

Liked the first show a lot--simple and quick to read.

Also, I think you missed me in the Prediction Pool? I didn't see my name for week 1...

Ron Simmons vs. Bobby Jaggers
-push the big man!
Mike Rotundo vs. Ivan Koloff
-Nikita repays the favor?
Rocky King vs. Big Bubba Rogers w/ Jim Cornette
-squash
The Mulkey Brothers vs. Kevin Sullivan & The Barbarian
-always tempted to vote for a Mulkey-mania...but I like this Sullivan/Barbi pair
No. 1 Contenders Match for United States Tag Team Championship: The MOD Squad vs. The Midnight Express w/ Jim Cornette (This is Condrey/Eaton)
-no brainer...but love me some Midnight Express
"The Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. Teijo Khan
-could be a good character babyface for you
Television Title Match:Ole Anderson vs. Tully Blanchard (c) w/ JJ Dillon--Draw/Time Limit/DQ/etc finish--too many opportunities to further the Ole vs Horsemen storyline

Bonus Point:Who will Jim Crockett name as challenger to face Ric Flair for the World Title at the Clash?
-Given what happened on the first episode, I'm going to guess Jimmy Garvin
General Diary Feedback: This show looks like it has a lot of opportunities to push some storylines

Sorry about that Rider! I updated the table for you.

Should have the next episode of WCW posted later today if anyone else is interested in predicting.
