Hello everyone and WELCOME to January 1, 1983. Please remember to wipe your feet and take your shoes off before entering. Now, sit back and relax and I hope you enjoy this trip back to the Mid Atlantic area.
This is a place where "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair ruled the roost before the 4 Horsemen concept was even born. A place where Harley Race fought for that king of the mountain. A place where the Brisco Brothers fought for glory and Wahoo chopped people's chests until they felt like hamburger meat. Wrestlers that you know today such as The Undertaker, Sting, Kurt Angle or the Ultimate Warrior were either not even in the business yet or just breaking in as the new young faces of the industry. So don't expect those athletes to be the top draws here. Here you're gonna see stars like Jimmy "The Boogie Woogie Man" Valiant, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat working the primes of their careers. For a little insight into the company called Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, let's look at our roster sheet, shall we? ROSTER! Quote:

((OOC: Thanks ismailite for the compliment. Now I might not be totally perfect on all the characters here since I was only 2 years old in 1983. LOL. But I'm going to try my best to get things at least looking good.))
Thank you all for taking your seats. You'll find listed in the next page of your journal an actual flyer that was given with the tickets for the next MACW event. If you'll all take a look, it will give you several points to look out for in the next show. Quote:

NWA World Heavyweight Title On The Line
Ric Flair(c) defends his title against his dreaded enemy Harley Race.- Very big match. I was actually up in the air on this one as Harley is truly the king. I'm going with Ric out of fanboy love. NWA World Tag Team Titles On The Line Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle(c) defend their titles against the tough team of the Brisco Brothers.- I hate Kernodle! The Hot Rod Rowdy Roddy Piper will take on the tough Native American Wahoo McDaniel!- Wahoo's as tough as they come, but Piper is a heels, heel! Going with the Hot Rod cuz I just see him being more effective gaining the heat. |

It was a sell-out here in Maryland, cementing Mid-Atlantic's place here. However I definitely decided that we need new announcers and soon. Tony and David Crockett just seem to be bringing down any segments that they are in! Steamboat and Youngblood probably should have been placed on the main show but I ran out of space to put them there! It's hard getting everybody on a 60 minute show! And on that note, all of the MACW In Your Town's will be done up like this while the main show will have a lot more detail. It just makes things easier for me as the writer. |

Good show! I love the Koloffs laying their flag over Youngblood. Talk about a slap in the face! The Russians vs. a TRUE Native American! Can't wait to see how this plays out as I LOOOOOVE the Koloffs'!

The first show in the new year for MACW was a definite success. Ric Flair versus Harley Race and Roddy Piper versus Wahoo McDaniel both stood out as the best matches on that card.
However, now we are reaching the meat and potatos here. The Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling show showing Saturdays at 8 PM on TV Cable Heartland East. The show, of course, is taped on Wednesdays and helps the build-up this month to MACW On Tour. A few matches were already signed for the television card: Quote:

Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling Salem Civic Center Salem, Virginia Attendance: 5,000 Bob Caudle, Tony Schiavione and David Crockett all welcomed wrestling fans to Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling to start the show. During this, a video was played of our main event contest which will see Harley Race take on The Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant. Grade: A As they were talking, they were interrupted by the music of Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. Valentine walked out to the ring with a microphone in hand and reiterated the fact that he has an open challenge for anyone to face him tonight for his United States Title. No one came out to interrupt him, which surprised the announcers and the Hammer walked to the back. Grade: A After a commercial break, the cameras were focused out in the parking lot for the arrival of Jack Brisco to the arena. Only, they opened up to a mugging out there as Sgt Slaughter and Don Kernodle were putting the boots to him! What a dastardly attack by Slaughter and Kernodle! Grade: B+ We found out why Jerry wasn't there to help his brother as he was already out in the ring and did not even know yet what happened to Jack! Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle made their way out to the ring afterward for this one on one bout with Slaughter facing Jerry Brisco. The match took a little over 5 minutes and saw a back and forth battle that turned on interference from Kernodle. Slaughter wrapped Jerry Brisco in the Cobra Clutch shortly after that and got the win at 5:05. Grade: A Afterwards, Kernodle came in the ring and he and Slaughter put the boots to Jerry Brisco, smashing him with those NWA World Tag Team Titles and leaving him a bloody mess inside the ring. Grade: A Following another commercial break, Greg Valentine made his way back out to the ring and was about to speak on the microphone when he was interrupted by the sounds of bagpipes being played. The crowd of 5,000 strong here in Salem were on their feet as Roddy Piper walked out and told The Hammer that HE accepted the open challenge and would face Valentine for the U.S. gold! Grade: A* Piper headed right to the ring and the match was on! It was a pure brawl right from the beginning with some great action in the middle between two awesome wrestlers. Valentine had to reach into his tights and he removed a pair of brass knuckles, popping Piper right in the head with them when the referee wasn't looking! Valentine then locked on the Figure 4 Leglock and picked up the submission victory over the Rowdy Scotsman at 6:45. Grade: A The camera zoomed in on the announcers next and they warned everyone that the next segment is not for the faint of heart. A video then played recapping the deeds done by the Koloffs last night against Mark Youngblood where they attacked him and laid the Russian flag on top of the Native American. Grade: C+ Ivan Koloff gave an interview afterwards, stating that yes he has accepted the challenge by Mark Youngblood and will face him in the ring tonight. But why wait? Puny American can be beaten right now. Grade: B+ Ivan Koloff was met halfway up the ramp by Mark Youngblood, beginning this next brawl! Youngblood slammed Koloff into the security railing before pulling him inside the ring. Nikita Koloff made his way down to ringside shortly into the match and distracted Youngblood to give his Uncle the advantage. Ivan finished Mark Youngblood off with an inverted backbreaker to get the submission win at 4:21. Grade: B Nikita slid into the ring after the match and helped Ivan put the boots to Mark Youngblood. They bludgeoned him with their chains and then tossed him over the ropes, choking out the Native American with that same chain! It looks like it might be awhile before we see Mark Youngblood again. Grade: C+ After a commercial, it was time for our main event. Harley was booed at the right points but the Boogie Woogie Man just didn't seem to be able to keep up with the #1 Contender. Harley finished off Valiant at 7:36 by pinfall after a Swan Dive Headbutt. Grade: B After the match, Harley stuck the boots to Jimmy Valiant and set him up for a piledriver but that was stopped by the arrival of our NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair! Race took the high road and the show ended with Flair standing protectively over Jimmy Valiant giving Race the evil eye. Grade: A |

MACW Weekly Recap Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling is really getting started on a heated note. Both shows were top notch and the wrestling industry is taking notice. In particular superstars from other regions are noticing and many are clamoring to get in on the MACW bandwagon. This wrestling organization has already signed some more talent, from Bobby "The Brain" Heenan to "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers. Other stars will also debut soon but their signings are being kept quiet to make their debuts more special. Jay Youngblood is said to be unhappy in the back with the Koloff's demolition of his brother Mark. Could we be seeing Jay coming into the ring to extract his revenge? Or perhaps we will see another Native American come out to speak with the Koloff's soon. Next week's Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling TV Show will debut a brand new commentary team as Lance Russell takes Tony Schiavione's place and David Crockett is replaced by the one and only Jesse "The Body" Ventura. Several matches have been announced for next week's MACW tv taping: Ric Flair and Jimmy Valiant versus Harley Race and a mystery partner of Race's choosing. Roddy Piper gets a rematch as he goes one on one with Greg Valentine in a nontitle affair. The Assassins with Number One Paul Jones will open things off against the Mulkey Brothers. And more action, including the Koloffs, Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle, Ricky Steamboat and more... |

Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling McAlister Field House Charleston South Carolina Attendance: 5,000 The McAlister Field House in Charleston, South Carolina was rocking and jam-packed to the rafters with 5,000 people in attendance as the MACW kicked off their weekly tv show. But before the tv show was to air, Jake "The Snake" Roberts made his debut against Angelo Mosca Jr. Jake got the pin after a DDT and using the ropes for leverage at 3:51 in. Grade: C Jesse Ventura, Bob Caudle and Lance Russell all made their way to the announcers table during the opening for the show. A video was shown during this time period with Harley Race talking about his mystery partner for tonight. He told the world that it will shock EVERYONE, especially that no-good Ric Flair. Grade: B+ Our opening match of the night saw the Assassins hit the ring with #1 Paul Jones to face the Mulkey Brothers. This was your typical squash just getting both teams some air time. The Assassin pinned Randy Mulkey with a running powerslam at 3:57 in. Grade: C- After a commercial break, the second match of the night started and was held for the United States Tag Team Titles. Rufus R. Jones and Bugsy McGraw were defending against the Koloffs. The Koloffs dominated the match but won by countout as Ivan Koloff tossed Jones out of the ring and didn't drag him back in before the time expired. Grade: C+ The Koloffs got on the microphone after the match and talked about how they planned on winning these U.S. Tag Team belts and bringing them back to Mother Russia! Ivan told the crowd that when they won the belts they would no longer be the U.S. Tag Team titles but they would be the Russian Tag Team titles. Grade: B While the Koloffs were in the ring still the cameras cut to a pre-recorded promo with Mark Youngblood looking rather beat up and on a hospital bed. Tony Schiavione was there to interview him. Mark said the doctors told him he would be fine with a few more days of rest. He swore revenge against the Koloffs for putting him in the hospital and said next week he would be at the arena and wanted a match against the two big Russians. Grade: C Our next match was a rematch from last week as Roddy Piper took on Greg Valentine. Piper was fighting for another shot at the U.S. Title that he almost won last week so he started strong but Valentine hit a low-blow while the referee wasn't looking and almost got the pinfall. Piper came back shortly afterwards and whipped Valentine into the ropes. Valentine grabbed the top rope and slid out of the ring walking over and grabbing his U.S. Title before walking toward the back, giving Piper the countout victory over the U.S. Champ. Grade: A* Sgt Slaughter and Don Kernodle came down the ring shortly afterward with microphones in hand. They talked about how they put the Brisco Brothers out of action last week and how they never would have survived even Basic Training! Then they invited their opponents to come out and face them so they can get the match over with. Grade: B Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood came racing from the back and got into the ring, trading rights and lefts with Slaughter and Kernodle. The young superstars soon sent the NWA World Tag Team Champs flying out of the ring and the match was on. This was a back and forth epic with both teams gaining several near falls. Sgt Slaughter finally got the pin on Jay Youngblood with a little help from the ropes and Slaughter and Kernodle hightailed it with their tag titles intact. Grade: A* As Ricky Steamboat checked on his partner, a rather nice looking blonde came out from the stands, distracting him. Behind Steamboat, Jay Youngblood was pulled out of the ring by an appearance by Paul Orndorff! The crowd tried to get Steamboat's attention but when the Dragon turned around he was cold-****ed by Rick Martel and the ring bell! Orndorff lifted Youngblood there and dropped him with a piledriver out on the safety mats while the blonde just stood there smiling. She walked over and raised the hands of Orndorff and Martel, leading them out through the stands. Just who is this mystery woman and are Paul and Martel really here in Mid-Atlantic??? Grade: C+ After a final commercial, it was time for the Main Event. Ric Flair and Jimmy Valiant came out to the ring and warmed up for the match. Then it was time for Harley Race to make his entrance but he didn't come alone. Standing right beside him was none other than..."THE AMERICAN DREAM" DUSTY RHODES!!!!! Back in 1981, Ric Flair had WON the NWA World Title from Dusty and now he was standing face-to-face with the Dream yet again in this tag match. The match itself went very well with Ric Flair being a standout and Jimmy Valiant being a weak-link in the match. It lasted for 8:44 when Harley Race picked up the win over Flair with a handful of tights! The show ended with all 3 commentators shouting about the return of the American Dream and with Dusty and Ric Flair going nose-to-nose. Grade: A* Quote:

((OOC: Thanks for the comment, the ismailite. With both of those guys being arrogant, I figured it fit.))
MACW Weekly Recap -It was another successful week for MACW. We are currently making more and more money and drawing in more viewers. The network seems happy with us. -The mystery woman with Paul Orndorff and Rick Martel is known as Missy Hyatt. She is a pretty new talent right now but has some obvious assetts to add to the company. -The debut of Martel and Orndorff was a little less than we had expected but hopefully they can make up for it as a team. Both have similar gimmicks so they should mesh well. -Jesse Ventura is unhappy with us just sitting at the commentary booth every week. His contract needs to be evaluated as well as his place with the company. Who knows, we might have a more active role for him to be in. -Mark Youngblood should be back with us next week after being put out of action for a week by the Koloffs. He'll definitely be looking for revenge against the Russians. -Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle have been great tag team champions for us. They've put on several good matches and may be holding the titles for longer than we had originally intended. -Speaking of those title belts, the Briscos should be returning to action next week. So far there hasn't been a match signed for them but that doesn't mean they won't be in the building. -Next week's MACW show looks to be a great one with the Main Event being the rubber match between Greg Valentine and Roddy Piper for the U.S. Title. Dark Match: Jake Roberts vs. Chris Chavis: One is the greatest in ring psychologists ever, and the other isn't even close. I have a bias here though as I'd pretty much predict Jake over anybody!
Paul Orndorff and Rick Martel vs. The Mulkey Brothers: What is Golden era wrestling without a mulkey brother around to do a job or two lol? Ricky Steamboat vs. George South: Rick was arguably the best wrestler in the world. To think, at this time and at his age, he was coming out of a sort of semi-retirement, and even considering retiring for good... Glad he didn't! George South is probably gonna wish he did tho! Dusty Rhodes vs. Rufus R. Jones: I imagine the Dream didn't come just to lose to ol' Rufus. The Koloffs vs. Mark Youngblood(Handicap Match): Russian Sickles all around for the Youngbloods! Submission Match: Roddy Piper vs. Greg Valentine(U.S. Title On The Line): Sleeper v. Figure Four. Should be a good Main Event! |

Hey, great start. The earlier MACW diary was mine, and I haven't given it up - (just moved and have been busy) but the great thing is that even with the same promotion the everyone takes it different ways! Case in point - THe American Dream! Can't wait to see what you do with him

Thanks for the comments, guys! I'm really enjoying listening to the reader feedback. If there's anything that you guys want in the diary just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
eskimo38, I definitely have plans for a heel American Dream. Might be the total opposite of what has occured in real life with him being the face...or maybe not. Oh and I know that most of the matches this week were easy to predict for everyone. However, be prepared for a few surprises. :-)...or maybe not. |
