Jman: I'm thinking two tournaments: One is for only League Champions, the other is only for TTT champions (once I figure out logistics of how that will work).
Deadline has passed. With Diamond confirming, and with contract details being finalized on member #16 at some point today, we're looking at 16 members for the third time in League history. That leads me into my next point: the scheduling. Derek's idea is rather...interesting, and I like the plan. Instead of divisions, this season the 16 wrestlers will be split into pairs. The schedule will be seventeen matches long this season, comprised as follows: 3 matches against the person a wrestler is paired with 1 match against every other League member (14 matches total). Playoffs will be the better record from each pairing, with tiebreaker going to the person who won the head to head series in the season (hence 3 matches between those in each pairing). It will then be seeded as a standard 8-person tournament, with seeding determined by standard League tiebreaking rules. TTT, as mentioned before, will be random draws for every round to make things interesting. The tournament will be held after week 9 this season. Derek has said that he'd be willing to listen to requests to put specific pairings together. So if you have a specific opponent you want to try to keep out of the playoffs, he's the guy to try to convince since he's earned the privilege again this season. In order to allow folks time to plead their cases, I'm allowing a week or so for this. The official Season Six thread will go up on May 8, with the schedule linked in the opening post and a run-down of who's in for the season, done in-character as Tori Montgomery. Any questions, feel free to ask them here. |

All this responsibility for picking thing and making up the format again. I like it.
![]() Seriously though, if there's anyone you want to be paired against then give me a shout and I'll take that into consideration. There are some pairings I'm already fairly sure I want to put together but all input appreciated. SF: As for your question via PM, I'm cool with it. ![]() |

Was wondering why you had a post but no PM reply. Guess I should read my own threads, huh?
![]() EDIT. Just thought of something. With three matches of each pairing and three specialty matches, would it be overkill to have a week of nothing but steel cage matches/hardcore matches/first blood matches on each week of the "paired" matches? Probably is overkill, but I might enforce at least one specialty match per pair this season just to show how heated these rivalries become. Willing to take thoughts on that too. EDIT 2: Apparently in my stupor this morning I found a way to totally mess up pairings. Just pretend nothing was ever here. ![]() Last edited by ShadowedFlames : 05-02-2012 at 02:06 PM. |

I'll take the luck of the draw. Maybe Thor can pull off another one of his "season opening ref stoppages" to get a material advantage in the pairing

@CoachRobertGreene
We join a typical fan of the league, following the dirtsheets on their way to a productive day. The League has grown to be worthy of their own section on the news sites alongside some of the world's other major companies and an excited fan clicks on a link that promises a credible source of SPOILERS... because if you only find out something as it happens, you're already behind the times! Quote:
Youtube video... reasonable length... doesn't look like a Rick Roll... leave it to load a little first and go make something to eat in the meantime... ... Om nom nom nom nom... Click! The youtube video plays and after being played in by Queen's "I Want It All" we see a man, aged about 50 years old with greying hair and a stern expression join us on screen... not quite what you might expect. Dressed in bottle green sweats with "Coach Robert Greene" written in gold letterman lettering, ice blue eyes, a whistle round his neck and with a pile of papers in front of him, he looks like he's been ready to shout at someone about something for a while already. Coach: "Welcome fans of The League, my name is Coach Robert Greene and you can just call me Coach. No doubt as fans of The League you're all looking forward to another exciting season packed full of hard hitting, high flying, exciting fighting as 16 of the world's top combatants square off against each other to crown a League champion. Will a sixth man rise to the top in the sixth season, or will a new name climb to the top of the mountain and etch their name on history? One thing is for sure, the pairs of names I have here on this sheet of paper in front of me are going to go a long way towards shaping that and no doubt that's what you're here to see! "For those also following along on the official site of The League you have no doubt already heard this season's format. 16 combatants will be paired up against each other, facing their paired opponent three times and everyone else once for a total of 17 matches. Whoever is top of their pair at the end of the season will advance to a singles tournament for the championship at the end of the season. Exciting stuff and there has been a lot of speculation about who is going to be paired with who, most notably a whole heap of people arguing over who they think deserves to beat up Scott Stevens three times over the next few months. To those folks I say... Steven's might not win a lot, but if you keep giving your money to see him then he's gonna be a rich man and there ain't no way he isn't getting rich off your buck." "But on to the matter at hand... the pairings. Oh, before I let the cat out of the bag I just want to give a big shout out to the winner of the Season 5 predictions competition, a young man who goes by the name of Derek B, who earned the right to make these brackets. I've had the pleasure of talking to him a lot lately and he's a great kid who really knows what he's doing. Couldn't have made better pairings if I'd been making them myself. And now, here are the pairings!" Coach clears out his throat, the gravel in his voice getting in the way of talking as he reads from the sheet in front of him. "First up, the reigning League champion and one half of the Tag Team Turmoil champions, The Phoenix will take on the talented young Benjamin T. Stanton Jr. Some may feel Phoenixs days as champion and even as a wrestler are numbered and Stanton will be out to prove he can take on the very best in the League, this should be an exciting pairing to watch though I do think that Phoenix has what it takes to win this pair, though I don't believe he will be capable of repeating his success from last season. With both men having gals at ringside this has all the elements of a combustible rivalry and a tremendous pairing!" "Our second pairing will see a League debutant go up against a League veteran as Psycho Sam looks to take out his frustrations at life out on the always dangerous Tarik Nolan. We all know what Nolan is capable of and if the hype around Psycho Sam is anything to go by then this pairing could get ugly in a hurry. With the League considering having each pair go into a big, dangerous gimmick match I could see these two men destroying each other if left to their own devices! As for picking a possible winner... well, it's an unknown factor against an inconsistent one, this could really go either way but is sure to throw out some exciting matches and quite possibly the rule book with them!" "In terms of exciting matches the third pairing has all the potential in the world to put together some of the most dramatic, jaw dropping matches The League has ever seen as the Jack Lightning takes on Ian Carlisle. These two men are among the most exciting stars the League has under contract and these matches are going to be a must see for all fans of adrenaline pumping, high flying action!" "Some people consider him to be the best wrestler in the League, while others barely even notice he's around due to his lack of shameless self promotion... Johnny Triumph is a former League Champion who had more wins in singles competition last season than anyone else, yet failed to retain the championship when he fell in two straight falls to The Phoenix. He'll be looking to improve upon that this season and has been handed a pairing with Eidenhoek Gaiuspade, I hope I pronounced that right... Triumph is the obvious favourite for this one but his opponent will have nothing to lose by going all out against arguably the best wrestler in League history." "Our fifth pairing will see two of the League's hardest hitting international stars forced together. Thor Hammerskald and Master Imoka are both known for being devastating strikers capable of knocking down and knocking out their opponent's with their heaviest shots. Both will be looking to improve upon their standings last season as the Viking looks to beat the Samoan for the chance to succeed. And having got rid of the deadweight of Frankie Garrett from ringside, Thor might actually be in with a chance to finally reach his full potential. "Our sixth pairing sees the remarkable return of one of the League's most hated men, a man who was beaten so badly by a number of wrestlers that it was thought he would never be able to return to the League. But as has been speculated on by several League fans, we will be seeing the return of [color=blue]Ly Quang Bao[color] for season six. And his opponent? He earns a chance to get revenge on one of the people who put him out as Diamond has been picked to face him. Will Bao get his chance to get revenge on those who wronged him? Or will he get his ass kicked so badly and so often by a skinny little girl that he'll be too ashamed to ever show his face in a wrestling ring again? My money is on Bao for this one!" Coach reaches over to the side of himself to grab a drink from a water bottle he has secreted just out of shot and ruffles the paper in front of him. Whether anyone is actually watching him or they've skipped to the end of the video where the dirtsheets are pointing out you can see all the pairings written down on the paper in front of him... well, that doesn't matter. He clearly likes to talk and be in control of things, while also being a self-publiciser to a scary degree. Why else would he talk liks this? "And that leaves four people left to put into their pairings... the seemingly insane Pizza Mask III... the unpredictable Sebastian Moore... the trash talking, "Venomous One" Scott Stevens... and the almost indestructible wrecking machine that is Nuclear Templeton. There has been a lot of chatter about who Scott Stevens would face this season, with a lot of cases being made by a lot of League fans as to who it should be. But without further ado, the man that Scott Stevens will be facing this season is... ..... ..... .... Pizza Mask III!! While neither man may be winning very much, both of these men understand how important it is to talk and how to build up a following. This will be a hotly anticipated series of matches that is sure to be more than personal after Stevens cost Pizza Mask III, or whatever he's calling himself these days, his shot in the playoffs. For sure, this is going to be a dramatic series!" "Which leaves only two men for the last pairing as the exciting, unpredictable and dangerous Sebastian Moore takes on the baddest man in League history... a powerful man who is feared and revered wherever he goes... a man who left unchecked could level an entire city with his bare hands... a man who's corner I will have the privilege of standing in while he lays out everyone who dares to stand before him... the one and only, Nuclear Templeton!!" Coach looks pretty pleased with himself as he lets out a wide smile, deepening some of his facial lines and highlighting that this smile probably isn't the kind of thing he does very much. Coach: "Folks, I'm going to cut this video here but follow me on facebook at "Coach Robert Greene" or on Twitter @CoachRobertGreene. Next time I'll be posting all about how I came to be Nuclear's new manager for #TheLeagueSeason6 and will give an in depth look at the man who has remained a mystery to many throughout his time here. So until then, so long folks!" Quick Pairings The Phoenix vs Benjamin T. Stanton Jr Psycho Sam vs Tarik Nolan Ian Carlisle vs Jack Lightning Johnny Triumph vs Eidenhoek Gaiaspade Master Imoka vs Thor Hammerskald Ly Quang Bao vs Diamond Scott Stevens vs III (Pizza Mask III) Nuclear Templeton vs Sebastian Moore OOC Note: This is the first of a few promos I'm planning to put up over the next week or so... I hope people are happy with their pairings, it's partly worked out by people's preferences and partly based on the kinds of matches I simply wanted to put together. I'm looking forward to Thor/Imoka myself... those guys always scare me when I see them coming up to face Nuclear. ![]() |

ShadowedFlames is going to be handling Bao so that we could make up the numbers to a nice even number suitable for my idea for the format. Better to have an even number so that everyone is wrestling every week and 16 is such a helpful number. And putting them together when they know each other in real life seemed like a fun plan... they almost ended up together as Diamond vs Phoenix but I changed my mind on that.
