MAW and the GLWA did okay. They were both trucking along when I finished the game.

As for Izaak, I didn't think he'd be that solid of a worker. I just figured, when I created him, that he'd be a fun tie-in with Sabbath and the Rev.

MWA Archival Footage
Firestorm
April 25th, 2029

The previous night had been dedicated to John “Nemesis” Campbell upon his retirement. At the age of 69, he had decided it was time to hang up his boots once and for all and live the sweet life on the money the MWA had paid him over the years. The show included clips from his greatest matches, tributes recorded by many of his colleagues, and matches dedicated to him. Most moving was the main event, Ash Campbell vs. Tommy Cornell Jr.

But with Nemesis gone, the question naturally arose, who would be his successor?

Throughout the show, many names were suggested. Archangel campaigned hard for Joel Kovach to be returned from retirement and given the reigns. Jay Chord suggested himself. Even Jim Force put in a cameo appearance, saying that he would be a “force to be reckoned with.” His application was rejected by Champion Tommy Cornell Jr. personally, putting him to sleep with a Guilt Trip.

Halfway through the show, though, it was announced that chairman John “Scapino” Otte was there and he would announce who the new boss would be.

As the show drew to a close, Scapino came out to the ring. He smiled and waved at the fans and then got down to business:

“Nemesis’s departure has left some mighty big shoes to fill. I don’t think anyone could ever replace him and very few people would be stupid enough to try. In spite of that, though, I think we’ve found a worthy successor.

“This is a man who I’ve come to respect over the years, someone who has hounded my every step, it seems, for the past twenty four years. He’s tough, he’s hard to keep down, and I know that leaving the MWA in his hands is the best decision I could possibly make.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to introduce the new general manager of the MWA ... Tommy Cornell Sr.!”

You could hear the collective intake of breath. And then, as Tommy came slowly out to the ring, a broad grin on his face, the crowd exploded. He walked carefully down to the ring, obviously a bit unsteady on his feet after the accident, and ascended the stairs. Scapino crossed to the ropes and held them open so Tommy could step inside the ring. They then shook hands and Scapino raised Tommy’s hand.

And you could see the tears in Tommy’s eyes as the fans chanted “Tommy! Tommy! Tommy!” But those tears only flowed when Tommy Jr. came out to the ring with Lucy Stone-McFly in tow. The two Cornells stared at each other for a moment before Tommy Jr. rushed to his father and enveloped him in a crushing hug.

Tommy Cornell (Stone-McFly) III would be the best wrestler to grace Earth.

I think the only thing left thats not been tied up, is what happens to Scap..

Does he carry on running MWA till the day he dies, or does he leave it in someones hands and go off with Wanda

Default Epilogue

And the Story Goes On...
MWA Blade’s Edge
April 28th, 2032

It had been a long, strange journey to this moment.

Some days, it felt like I had just received the call from Tommy, telling me I was heading to the SWF. Other days, I could scarcely remember what that night felt like. As I paced the backstage of the Minnesota Coliseum, images tumbled through my mind: the Anonymous Avenger, Karma, Apocalypse, the first Rip Chord Memorial Show, Ernest Youngman’s meteoric rise, Archangel and Joel’s return ... all of it blended together into a fevered dream that set my legs churning even faster.

“Settle down, boss.”

I stopped and looked at Tommy Cornell Jr. He adjusted the MWA World Heavyweight Championship belt on his shoulder and smiled at me. It was the third time he had held it since he debuted with us, but he always looked like he was afraid he’d break it.

“I’m sorry,” I said. “It’s just that...”

He nodded. “I understand. Don’t worry. We’ll do fine.”

With that, he turned and extended his hand to Lucy Stone-McFly. She took it with a radiant smile and stepped in close to kiss him on the cheek. She then favored me with a grin and followed as her fiancé led her toward the ring entrance.

Tommy Sr. stepped in close. “You feelin’ nervous, kid?”

I glanced at him and smirked. “Only a little.”

“Don’t worry, it’ll pass.” He shifted on his feet uncomfortably. “Listen, Scap ... I know I’ve said it before, but...”

“Don’t.”
Tommy Sr. had picked up an annoying habit recently. Every chance he got, he apologized to me. “It was a two way street and we both know it. Just let it go and get out there, okay?”

Tommy’s eyes twinkled as he cuffed me on the shoulder, maybe a bit harder than he had to, and stepped through the entrance ahead of his son. His voice boomed over the arena speakers: “Everyone shut up and pay attention. It is my pleasure at this time to introduce the two most dominant wrestlers in the MWA, the MWA World Heavyweight Champion, Tommy Cornell Jr., and the winner of the 2032 MWA Ringmaster Tournament, Lucy Stone-McFly!”

After taking a collective deep breath, Tommy Jr. and Lucy stepped out to a thunderous wave of boos and jeers. I watched on a monitor as they strutted to the ring, sneering at the fans on either side of the ramp. As they did, Jason Azaria and Emma Chase introduced clips from “Masters of the Ring,” showing Lucy beating Lenny Brown to win the Ringmaster Title and Tommy Jr. beating Matthew Gauge to retain the MWA World Heavyweight Championship.

They then skipped to video from what happened after Tommy’s match.

Lucy joined Tommy in the ring to celebrate their wins with some very inappropriate public displays of affection. Then the lights died. An eerie sound of rushing wind filled the arena and an unearthly light flickered behind the big screen. Images of Tommy’s beaten opponents darted past: Ernest Youngman, Primus Allen, Matthew Gauge. When Joel Kovach, Archangel, Angry Gilmore, and Vengeance’s pictures appeared, they would freeze and a crimson “X” slashing over them, indicating (as Jason helpfully pointed out) that these were people whose careers Tommy had ended. The images came faster and faster, the sound rising in volume and speed until everything went dark.

Then ghostly white letters appeared on the screen: “Justice is coming for those who have fallen.”

Fire erupted on both sides of the screen and, as it caught fire, it displayed the image of three people with wings.

As the show went back to the live feed, we saw Tommy Jr. and Lucy standing in the middle of the ring, bored looks on their faces.

“I know what everyone’s thinking. ‘Ooooo! It must be Archangel! It must be him!’ If it is, I gotta say, Double-A ... that’s so 2008! Seen it!”

Lucy took the mic then. “Besides, we all know that my man is the one who ended your pitiful career! You can play mind games all you want, because we all know how this is going to end!”

I could hear footsteps behind me. I turned and saw Wanda approach. It wasn’t fair. She had aged gracefully over the years and, as far as I was concerned, was as beautiful as ever. Me, on the other hand ... well, there were days that I regretted the fact that everything was broadcast in high definition now.

“How are they doing?”

“Nervous, but they’re ready to go. How about you?”

“Scared to death. I’m feeling better now that you’re here, though.”

She took my hand and squeezed it. “Did you ever think we’d be here like this?”

I shook my head. “Never in a million years. But I’m glad we are.”

“Me too.”

We turned our attention back to the monitor. Lucy was clearly wrapping up her speech as Tommy smiled at her appreciatively.

“... and then he’ll drop you with a Rough Ride and the ref will have no choice but to count one ... two ... thr–”

The lights died again. Fire exploded around the big screen and then, when the lights came back on, three figures stood in the ring in front of Tommy and Lucy. The center one was instantly recognizable as Archangel. The other two were swathed in black robes that obscured their features. Archangel smirked at the cheering crowds before he raised a mic of his own.

“Are you two quite done?”

“No, but you are!”
Tommy shouted and launched himself at Archangel.

Archangel held up a hand, bringing Tommy to an abrupt halt. “I’m not here to fight you, Cornell. You ended my career two years ago and there’s no way around that. Believe me, I’ve tried, but your daddy has made sure it stuck. No, I’m here to introduce the people who are going to make both your lives difficult and bring about some much needed justice in the MWA. I call them Cherub...”

He gestured to the person on his right, who pulled back the hood to reveal a stunning young lady, eighteen years old, her blond hair cascading around her shoulders. She smiled as Tommy and Lucy gaped at her, obviously taken aback by the fact that her face was painted black-and-white in a pattern similar to Archangel’s.

Archangel ignored their surprise. “... and Seraph.”

The other robed figure pulled back his hood, revealing a young man, also eighteen. He too had a painted face, but instead of black-and-white, it appeared as if his features were wreathed in flames.

As the camera panned between the two of them, Emma Chase and Jason Azaria debated whether or not they were related. Jason wondered aloud if they were twins.

“I’ve been training these Heavenly Hosts of mine for the past two years specifically for this day, so they could come to the MWA and put both of you in your place.”

Tommy and Lucy exchanged a look and then burst out laughing. Tommy recovered first.

“Oh, this is rich! These two are going to put us in our place? How? You seem to forget who you’re talking to, Archangel. This is Lucy Stone-McFly, a second generation powerhouse and the daughter of two of the best wrestlers ever. And me? I’m Tommy Cornell Jr., another second generation phenomenon and, let’s not forget, the son of the boss. How do you think these two curtain jerkers are going to take on us?”

“For a couple of reasons. See, I laid the foundation for these two and Cherub, she really took after me. She knows how to use the Fall From Grace and the Wing Clip better than I ever dreamed.

“But Seraph? He wanted a mentor with a bit more fire. So I sent him to my old buddy...”

Joel Kovach’s entrance music hit and sure enough, Tommy Cornell Jr.’s first victim in the MWA came out and glared at him from the ring entrance.

“... and Joel taught him everything he knows.”

Lucy seemed a bit spooked but her confidence returned. “So they’ve had good teachers. So what? You seem to forget that Tommy and I are legacies.”

“You didn’t let me finish, because Seraph and Cherub are too. Lucy, you want to brag over the fact that you’re the first woman to hold the Ringmaster Title? That’s just fine, because their mother is the first woman to ever hold a World Heavyweight Championship in a global wrestling company. That’s because their mother ... is Wanda Fish!”

I gave Wanda’s shoulder a squeeze. She smiled at me and stepped out through the entrance and took her place at Joel’s side, a confident smirk on her face as well.

“And Tommy,” Archangel continued. “I know you’re not stupid. You’re probably doing the math and you’ve realized who their father is. That’s right, he’s the guy who beat your father at his own games. Their dad is none other than the MWA’s founder ... Scapino!”

I came out and joined Joel and Wanda.

Archangel laughed at Tommy and Lucy. “I’ll just leave the four of you to get acquainted.”

With that, he rolled out of the ring. Lucy and Tommy exchanged uncertain looks, but then they stepped forward and got into the faces of Cherub and Seraph. The kids didn’t back down, pressing their foreheads against their opponents’. Then Tommy took a swing at Seraph and the ring exploded into a melee.

As the fans cheered, the four of us slipped backstage. I found Tommy Sr. standing by a monitor, smiling as he watched his son fight mine. He clapped me on the shoulder.

“Brings back some good memories, doesn’t it?”

I nodded. “And I think it’ll make for some great new ones too. Come on, Tommy. Let’s head over to the Garrison. I think it’s time to celebrate.”

Fantastic work all round, Scap, from top to bottom this has been, I believe, the most consistent and entertaining diary on the boards (boy, am I jealous )

The concept of the next generation going to war for themselves is an intriguing one, and I don't doubt it'd bring some incredible matches.

And like everyone else, should you do a new diary when 08 comes out, I'll be reading

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.

This is, unfortunately, one of those bad news/good news types of posts.

Bad news first: it will be a while before I start up a new journal.

Not that I'm complaining, but I've been doing both the SWF and the MWA diaries for at least two and a half years now and I feel a little burned out. I know I took some lengthy hiatuses in that time, but I need an extended break before I start writing a diary again. I'm not sure how long my sabbatical will be, but don't expect anything out of me for a while.

Now the good news: I will be back. I've had a lot of fun writing both diaries and I appreciate a lot of the positive feedback I've received. What can I say, I'm an addict.

And while I'm 95% certain that the next diary won't be a contiuation of this universe, never say never. We'll just have to see.

Thanks for the support everyone. You all made this worthwhile!
