Default "Coaching Only" Option?

Arlie,

I hope with the new pro game that you allow an option to turn off the financials and let the user concentrate on functions such as drafting, trading, game coaching, etc., without having to worry about the business aspect of pro football.

This type of option is available in OOTP Baseball (at least in versions up to 6.5), and it allows the user to play the sport rather than play the business.

Thanks for considering this!

If Arlie does put that option in, it'll be a bit hit to the X and O guys. Also, I dunno about other people about so much micro-managing can be a draining gameplay experience.

To make the gaming experience even more immersive, teams can offer you several types of contracts: coach, general manager, team president, and etc.

Coach can in charge of training and running the team on the field. GMs can be in charge of trading, and drafting players. Team President can handle all the finances and league politics.

In case you land a coaching contract, the GM can ask for your input on what type of players you'll need for the team. Then, the GM can either take your advice or ignore it. That way, you can even add the dimension of staff relationships. If you are a coach stuck with a GM who continually robs you of your best players and undermine your authority, you can either just take a hike or tough it out.

That is a wonderfull idea Thony!! I like it.

Maybe make the Coach, GM, President as checkable items of a list of things you'd like to control or have the CPU control. I'd hate to be pigeonholed into just one of those and not be able to control the others. But for those who really only care about one or two of those jobs, they could have the ability to just focus on what they want.

Absolutely agree with this & the other posts like it. I had the same thought in another thread. I think it's fine to allow players to act as all 3 roles...but also allow for players to only do certain roles, and live with the repercussions of other staff members & thier own styles & personalities.

I'd think it would be cool to be the GM, for instance, and after assembling the kind of team "I" think should win...having the head coach screw it up because he runs a power running offense or a 3-4 defense...and I assembled players to run a Run & Shoot, 4-3 style team. Basically...force me(the user) to either assume the role, or hire a coach to suit my style of play. All the while, maybe the owner has his own view of the team & how his team's tradition should be carried on.

In the example above...maybe a Steelers-type team owner gets mad & fires me for not assembling the right players...since he & the head coach are on the same page, but I'm not.

I think we're all saying the same thing here, roughly, anyway. I hope Arlie & co. take this approach...I've been waiting for a game to model these roles more accurately. I dont want an RPG with "Coaching Points" or any crap like that...just model the roles & allow me to take on 1, 2, or all 3. I know 1 person doing all 3 is not completely accurate to RL...but you simply cant take away the ability to make owner decisions in a sports sim.

Good points on the multiple roles option. I think adding this feature will really make the game ground breaking in terms of sports management sim.

I like this as well, and perhaps having the ability to turn options off. Maybe I don't want to deal with a salary cap for example.
