Default MVW: Full Speed Ahead (C-Verse Local to Global)

Fifty-thousand dollars…what am I supposed to do with fifty thousand dollars?” What am I supposed to do with that kind of money? I found myself asking that question a lot since the settlement got handed down. What was this settlement for? That’s not important. But what is important is that I am now in possession of the most money I’ve ever had at one time in my entire life. My life has only been twenty years, but still, fifty thousand dollars is a lot of money no matter how old you are. Oh, sorry, didn’t mean to be rude. Allow myself to introduce….myself. My name is Evan Crawford, I’m your typical twenty year old male. I like music, I like sports and I love the ladies. I’m from a town most of you have probably heard of, St. Louis, Missouri. St. Louis, the gateway to the west. I’ve grown up in the heart of this great city, and while it may get a bad rap from people around the country, I love this place. My friends are here, my family is here, everything I love is in his city. But I differ from most twenty year olds in St. Louis in one small way, I love professional wrestling.

I take a lot of grief over the fact that I love this sport the way I do. My friends say, “Evan, you do realize that this crap is fake don’t you?” I’m always quick to respond by telling them that their favorite shows are fake as well. Wrestling is just like any other show, it has stories, it has characters, these characters just like to go out and beat the daylights out of each other for their fans. They don’t take days off, they don’t have off seasons. Men like the great Tommy Cornell or Christian Faith go out and bust their butts year around to entertain us. They are great athletes, and I respect them for it. I’ve always wanted to be a part of the industry, but I’m not exactly the type to go out there and want to train to get in the ring. I’ve always been more of the business type. But how am I supposed to get into the wrestling business when there is no promotion anywhere near St. Louis nowadays?

I’ve had to settle for playing a wrestling simulator on my computer where you book make belief wrestlers. The programmer is very good, and he thinks of great characters like The Undertaker, a man who is dead….crazy huh? But nobody can get the stats right for my favorite wrestlers in the world like Angry Gilmore or Jack Bruce. They can’t even decide if USPW should be cult or regional. It’s just not the same booking these make believe people like Undertaker or some wanna be white rapper named John Cena. I want to go into the real world, I want to book Tommy Cornell in a match, I want to crown Sean McFly champion. And all this seemed so out of reach, that is until I got my 50k payday.

Once I got the check in the bank I immediately called up by best friend in the entire world, Troy Sanders, and I told him to come over right away, we have some money to spend. That was the quickest I’ve ever seen Troy get over here. I already knew what I was going to spend the money on, but Troy had no idea what I had in mind. We sat down, got something to drink, then I told him what I was thinking. “So, uh, Troy. I’m thinking I’m going to spend the money on starting up my own wrestling promotion.” The look on Troy’s face was priceless. Dr. Pepper went flying through the air, and Troy had this look on his face like I just stole his bike. He quickly responded with a, “What the –

You see, Troy is one of my friends I was telling you about earlier. He hates pro wrestling with a passion. Never mind that he has never watched a second of a wrestling program, he just knows that he hates it and will have nothing to do with it at all. “This is a terrible idea Evan. There are so many things you could do with that money”. “Yeah, like what?” I quickly asked him. ”I don’t know, we could throw like the kegger to end all keggers or something. It could be epic.” Another thing about Troy, he has a couple of weaknesses, mainly cute girls and hard liquor, but it was more comedic than sad.

I don’t think so Troy. I’ve got my mind set on this. I’ve already got the ball rolling. I’ve ordered banners, a ring, all that good stuff. But there is something I need before we get this show on the road.” “Oh yeah, what’s that?” Troy remarked back. “I need a business partner, someone to help me get this idea out there.” “No way dude, wrestling’s for losers dude, when are you going to realize that?” “I had a feeling you would say that. Think of it like this Troy, it’s a business, and I can guarantee you that you will make more money at this than staying in your mom’s basement all day playing Call of Duty 4”. “Money? Well why didn’t you say so?” I knew the mention of money would wake him up. There is something you need to get hard liquor and chicks, that’s money. “I guess I’ll help you if you are paying…but I’m not doing any of the wrestling crap, you can handle that.” “What ever you say Troy.” I knew that eventually for us to be successful he had to find out how to enjoy this “wrestling crap”, but this was a start, I wouldn't be able to do this alone, and he was my best friend, so why not give it a shot.

And it was as simple as that, a new wrestling promotion had been born. This is the dawning of a new age in Midwest wrestling….was there ever an age in the first place? Oh well, this was the beginning of something potentially big. This was the birth of…

nice, logical backstory...not too farfetched...love the commentary on the cornellverse TEW, haha no one can decide wether USPW should be cult or regional...classic!

Nice backstory... My dynasty that was Local to Global was way more farfetched. I like the fact that your's isnt, unlike many that are out there.

"What's that? Eric Bischoff is calling me for no reason?"

Once I got things ironed out with Troy about how we would handle our partnership, I could finally get down to the business of really setting this thing up. I still can’t believe that I’m going to own a professional wrestling organization. Troy and I sat down to talk about what direction we would take things in, and his only piece of information he gave me was, “Call me when we are going to do something cool, I’m outta here.” And there it was, our first great executive decision as a team. Troy would leave and I would do all the work of setting things up. For some reason that didn’t surprise me.

First I had to decide what kind of promotion I wanted us to be. A lot of promotions fall into the trap of coming up with a style, and not adapting to what their situation is. I took this into consideration and decided that we would start with a fast-paced product that is more concerned about good wrestling performances than riveting interviews. This would allow us to bring in people based on skill rather than popularity. And then when we get big enough, I left our product enough room to shift around to help bring in a bigger audience. Some people call it selling out, I call it smart business.

The next step, and easily the biggest was getting in touch with wrestlers that could come in and be a part of the first ever talent roster at Maximum Velocity Wrestling. I put out a lot of calls and e-mails, and most were returned. I had negotiations over the phone with the people that seemed interested, and most were nice enough to sign and not put us under. There were a few who wanted way more than they were worth, so needless to say they won’t be a part of MVW for the time being. I called up Troy once the roster was finalized, and we reviewed the roster and mugshots of the people one by one, each of us giving our opinion.

Daredevil Aero
Push: Upper Midcarder
Age: 18
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: This guy was part of the XDW promotion. He’s young and should develop into a very good high flyer.
Troy’s Thoughts: He could really use seconds at dinner, he’s tiny!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dwight Kumas
Push: Referee
Age: 39
Strength: Refereeing
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: He’s a decent referee. Nothing special, but he serves our purposes for now.
Troy’s Thoughts: I have found Justin Guarini’s long lost brother!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Fearless Blue
Push: Upper Midcarder
Age: 19
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: Another member of the XDW, he’s also a solid high flyer who could develop into something special someday.
Troy’s Thoughts: Hide the razors and Hawthorne Heights CD’s!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Jackpot Jordan
Push: Main Eventer
Age: 21
Strength: Technical
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: He is a good mix of technical and aerial ability that was trained by CZCW, and should be a major player in MVW.
Troy’s Thoughts: Maybe he’ll hook me up with some money…it says he’s rich.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Kenny O’Quinn
Push: Color Commentator
Age: 50
Strength: Color Commentating
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: It’s good to have somebody as experience as Kenny in to do color commentary for us. He leaves a little bit to be desired, but he can help our youngsters.
Troy’s Thoughts: Is that a nice way of saying he’s old? He has a sweet beard though, he’s fine by me.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Mark Smart
Push: Midcarder
Age: 23
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: Mark is a very solid aerial wrestler, but can back it up with some technical ability. He does lack the look of a serious wrestler though.
Troy’s Thoughts: Looks like he sent us a picture of him with his finger in a power outlet. Maybe we should name him, Electric Man! (Did I mention that Troy has ADD?)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Theocott
Push: Announcer
Age: 33
Strength: Announcing
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: Martin has a background as a sportscaster, which is what I was looking for. Hopefully he can be the voice of MVW for a long time.
Troy’s Thoughts: The voice of MVW huh? I bet he can’t do as good of an impression of Christopher Walken as I can. (In Christopher Walken voice), Wowwie wow wow wow.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Matt Hocking
Push: Main Eventer
Age: 18
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: This kid has the look of a superstar, and he’s only 18. He should develop into a very good all around wrestler.
Troy’s Thoughts: Sweet, what do you think that is that he uses in his hair, Pantene or L’Oreal?

----------------------------------------------------------------

Stan “The Man” Manna
Push: Main Eventer
Age: 23
Strength: Technical
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: Stan is a very good all rounder. He’s not better at one thing than another, and his time with Rip Chord’s MAW should only make him that much better.
Troy’s Thoughts: MVW’s resident rockstar. And he’s Canadian? They have music in Canada? Well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Super Sonic
Push: Upper Midcarder
Age: 20
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: Our third member of the XDW roster, he tends not to associate with the other two, but is just as talented.
Troy’s Thoughts: This guy is a grade A redneck. I bet he drinks Pabst Blue Ribbons by the case and owns every George Jones record.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Tempest Appleby
Push: Enhancement Talent
Age: 32
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: He is probably our most talented flyer. Too bad he’s too busy dancing to actually pay attention to his matches.
Troy’s Thoughts: Wonder if he knows the Electric Slide?

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Desperado
Push: Midcarder
Age: 21
Strength: Flying
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: This is Ben Williams’ new character. He doesn’t have much in the way of offense, but man can this guy take a bump.
Troy’s Thoughts: He looks like he should be auditioning for the Village People.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Thomas Morgan
Push: Lower Midcarder
Age: 33
Strength: Technical
Alignment: Face
Evan’s Thoughts: Morgan is our most talented technician, but I’m not sure how that will translate to our primary audience here at the beginning.
Troy’s Thoughts: What’s up with all the Canadians? If this wrestling thing falls through we will have a great hockey team.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Warren Technique
Push: Upper Midcarder
Age: 22
Strength: Technical
Alignment: Heel
Evan’s Thoughts: This man is a wrestling machine, and I think he can draw heat from the fans by outwrestling our babyfaces.
Troy’s Thoughts: I’m amazed, this man has no facial features.

History will be made when Maximum Velocity Wrestling will hold their first ever event on Saturday, January Week 3, 2008. This first event will be titled, Crowning A Champion, Part One. This special event will be composed of first round matches in this eight man, single elimination tournament to crown the first ever MVW Champion. It will be stocked with the best talent that MVW has to offer, and the man who can string together three straight victories will go down in the history books as the first ever MVW Champion. In addition, the winners of the four matches at Saturday's event will proceed into next month's event, Crowning A Champion, Part Two, where the semi-finals and finals of the tournament will go down.

MVW Crowning a Champion, Part One

VS

Round One Matchup
Matt Hocking vs. Mark Smart

This match features two wrestlers who are capable high fliers. The major difference in this matchup seems to be each man's confidence. Hocking believes that nobody can match his talent in MVW, while Smart is just happy to be a part of the event. Hocking's fans have responded well to his trust in his own ability in other promotions, but will over-confidence on Hocking's part lead to a Mark Smart victory?

----------------------------------------------------------------

VS

Round One Matchup
Daredevil Aero vs. Warren Technique

This solid first round match up features two wrestlers with contrasting styles going after the same goal, the MVW Championship. Daredevil Aero is a young man with very little experience, but he has a world of high flying talent on his side. On the other hand Warren Technique has a little more experience, and his area of expertise is the mat wrestling game. Will Technique be able to ground the non-stop style of Aero, or will the Daredevil topple Warren Technique?

----------------------------------------------------------------

VS

Round One Matchup
Stan "The Man" Manna vs. Thomas Morgan

This match features two experienced grapplers facing off against one another for a chance to be the first ever MVW Champion. Manna trained at MAW under the learning tree of Rip Chord, so that kind of training could really help him succeed in this tournament. On the other hand Thomas Morgan has been wrestling for over ten years looking for his big break, and he has decided to not wait anymore, he is going to take what he wants, and he plans on starting with the MVW Title.

----------------------------------------------------------------

VS

Round One Matchup
Fearless Blue vs. Jackpot Jordan

This match also features a big difference in character. Fearless Blue lives by his name, he is scared of absolutely nothing. He will take every risk necessary to try to become MVW Champion with his crash and burn style. His opponent Jackpot Jordan is the richest man in Maximum Velocity Wrestling, and he lets everybody know it. He is able to back up his arrogant attitude with a solid in-ring ability though, and he is looking to add championship gold to his already hefty fortune.

I'm doing the same thing going up from local, except I am starting out with $0...We have a bunch of the same guys so it should be interesting to watch.

First Round: Matt Hocking vs. Mark Smart-I'm not familiar with Matt, but it can't be to hard being better than Mark.
First Round: Daredevil Aero vs. Warren Technique-Warren is a solid all round guy, who has great performance skills. My pick to win it.
First Round: Stan Manna vs. Thomas Morgan-I call Tom to win or preferably lose in the finals.
First Round: Fearless Blue vs. Jackpot Jordan-I like Blue, but even with as little experience as he has, the time Jordan spent with a real promotion makes him head and shoulders better than the Fearless One.

I'm used to writing very detailed blow-for-blow match writeups, but I wanted to try something new here, and I think I like it. It makes it a quicker read, and it gets all the information that you need in there, plus my opinion on things, something I've never given in a dynasty. Hope you all enjoy.

Crowning a Champion, Part One
Saturday, Week 3, January 2008
St. Louis Community Center
Attendance: 47

The first ever Maximum Velocity Wrestling show gets underway with the lights going down low, and then a single spotlight going to the entrance way. Rock music plays in the background as Stan “The Man” Manna makes his way out to the ring. He gets into the ring and grabs a microphone from ringside, and he begins to address the forty-seven people that showed up for this inaugural event.

Stan Manna
What is up St. Louis? My name is Stan Manna, and I’m a rocker through and through. Management wanted me to come out here and welcome you to our first round of matches in our quest to crown a champion. They also wanted me to tell you that here in MVW you will see some of the best action in America…not like you guys deserve it. That’s right, I think you are all scum who doesn’t belong to be under the same roof as Stan Manna. “The Man” isn’t just a nickname, it’s the truth. I am the man, there’s nobody who wrestles better, there’s nobody who rocks harder. I’m Stan Manna, and I’m here to take my championship!

-----------------------------------------------------

VS

First Round Match
Stan Manna vs. Thomas Morgan

Stan Manna def. Thomas Morgan at 10:37 with his version of the MDK Powerbomb, the Rockin’ Roller to move onto the semi-finals of the tournament.

Match Rating: E+

Evan’s Thoughts
Not a bad first match for Maximum Velocity Wrestling. Stan got the crowd to pull for Morgan with his pre-match promo, and both men looked good in the ring. The more the fans get to know the wrestlers the more they will get into their future matches, but this is a start.

-----------------------------------------------------

VS

First Round Match
Mark Smart vs. Matt Hocking

Matt Hocking def. Mark Smart at 10:13 with the Hock Shock to move onto the semi-finals of the MVW Championship Tournament.

Match Rating: E+

Evan’s Thoughts
This match was pretty one sided. Smart showed his ability to fly around the ring, but he was eventually caught and squashed by Hocking’s impressive offensive arsenal. The fans seemed to respond to Matt rather well, he just looks like somebody who is bound for big things.

-----------------------------------------------------

VS

First Round Match
Daredevil Aero vs. Warren Technique

Warren Technique def. Daredevil Aero at 11:42 with his crippling submission finisher, the STF. He now moves onto the semi-finals of the MVW Championship tournament where he will face Matt Hocking for the right to wrestle for the championship.

Match Rating: E+

Evan’s Thoughts
Another decent match for us tonight. The fans really liked the contrasting styles, and Warren Technique showed that technical wrestling isn’t boring. He used a fast paced technical attack to put Aero in many dangerous predicaments. Daredevil Aero showed off his high risk talents at one point, but Technique ground him right away, and when he locked in that vicious STF it was academic.

-----------------------------------------------------

VS

First Round Match
Fearless Blue vs. Jackpot Jordan

Fearless Blue def. Jackpot Jordan at 17:29 with a springboard lariat. With this win he advances to the semi-finals of the tournament for the title where he will face Stan Manna for the chance to wrestle to become the first ever MVW Champion later in the night.

Match Rating: F+

Evan’s Thoughts
Wow, I guess I picked the wrong main event. These two guys didn’t click at all in the ring, it just made things really awkward. Plus, Fearless Blue botched a couple of his moves, including the finish, which took the fans completely out of it. He had to recover, then go back out and springboard back in, the fans knew what he was going to do, so it sort of ruined it. Guess I’ll have to look at the matchups closer for the next main event.

-----------------------------------------------------

Final Rating: E-
This raised MVW’s popularity.

Evan’s Final Thoughts
All in all, not a bad debut from our company. If I could do it over I would change a few things around, but this was my first ever show so I was bound to make some mistakes, like our young talent roster is. The good thing is that people weren’t really expecting anything, so it was hard for them to be let down by the performance. I heard a lot of people say that they were pleasantly surprised by what we threw together, and they would definitely be back to see who is crowned the champion next month. Also, I wish Troy would actually come to one of our events, but he’s still not used to wrestling enough to actually watch it, so he was out handing out flyers and getting our name out during the show. I know that he’ll eventually have to step into the arena and watch our product, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Good first show, I'm a fan of the shorter result style. I used to write blow for blow back in the EWR Days aswell. I found that after 2 or 3 months you'd just be repeating things, lol. Well maybe that's just me. Anyway pretty solid show.

Sucks you got bitten by the bad chemistry bug in your ME though.

Maximum Velocity Wrestling got off to a fast start with their premier event, Crowning a Champion, Part One. Now the follow up event, Crowning a Champion, Part Two will be taking place from the Community Center in downtown St. Louis. There are four men left in the tournament: Matt Hocking, Warren Technique, Stan Manna and Fearless Blue. There will be the two semi-finals matches, followed by a special attraction match, and then the finals of the MVW Championship title will take place, and after that match we will know who the first ever MVW Champion is going to be. You don't want to miss out on this event, it is one that will be looked back on in time and will be remembered as the night Maximum Velocity Wrestling crowned their first champion.

MVW Crowning a Champion, Part Two

VS

Semi-Final Match
Matt Hocking vs. Warren Technique

Both of these men were able to progress into the final night of the tournament based on their great skill in their area of expertise. Matt Hocking got through on his great high flying talent and his great self-confidence. On the other hand, Warren Technique got through on his great technical wrestling ability. Their styles will clash in this match, with the winner going onto the finals. Which will prevail, the aerial ability of Hocking, or the pure wrestling skill of Technique?

----------------------------------------------------------------

VS

Semi-Final Match
Fearless Blue vs. Stan "The Man" Manna

Fearless Blue provided the biggest upset of the first round as he was able to top Jackpot Jordan. But Stan Manna also looked good in the first round, and before the tournament even had it's first match, he told the fans that he would be the Maximum Velocity Wrestling Champion by the time all is said and done. Will Fearless Blue and his great high flying ability be able to keep this run going and defeat Stan Manna, or will "The Man" rock and roll into the finals of the tournament?

----------------------------------------------------------------

VS

Jackpot Jordan vs. Thomas Morgan

Neither one of these men were able to escape the first round of the tournament, and neither of them are happy about it. Jackpot Jordan has made no secret to fans around the nation that he has enough money to buy what he wants, but his money wasn't able to save him from Fearless Blue. Thomas Morgan has also made it clear that he knows that his time is getting shorter in the business, and he's going to make his own breaks. Will he start with a victory over the brash young man Jackpot Jordan tonight?
