Friday, Week 3, March, 2012

The following contests are confirmed to take place on tonight’s edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown!:

World Heavyweight Championship: Big Show © vs. Ianshoku Dieno
At the WWE Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View back in January Big Show defeated the former World Heavyweight Champion the Undertaker as well as the Undertaker’s brother Kane in a Triple Threat match to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the very first time. At last month’s WWE Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View Big Show made his first successful title defence as he defeated Kane, Undertaker, Drew McIntyre, Edge and JTG in an Elimination Chamber match. Following Big Show’s gruelling Elimination Chamber match he then retained his title again after Dolph Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase. After retaining his World title twice on the same night at the Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View, Big Show thought he was headed to defend his World title in the main event of Wrestlemania against the winner of the 2012 Royal Rumble match, Sheamus. However, the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero had other ideas and declared that Big Show would have to defend his World title every week on SmackDown! up until Wrestlemania if he was to go on to defend the title on the Grandest Stage of All against Sheamus. Three weeks ago, Big Show defended the World title against Rob Conway, two weeks ago he did the same against Cody Deaner and last week Big Show made his third title defence is as many weeks as he defeated Curt Hawkins. Tonight, in SmackDown!’s main event, Big Show will look to make his sixth successful title defence as he puts the World title on the line against Ianshoku Dieno. Tonight will be the first match that Big Show has ever had against Dieno.

Intercontinental Champion Jack Swagger & Undertaker vs. Ezekiel Jackson & Kane
At Wrestlemania the Undertaker will put his legendary undefeated streak on the line in a Triple Threat match for the very first time as he will take on both Edge as well as his brother Kane. The WWE Intercontinental Champion Jack Swagger will also be in action at Wrestlemania as he will put his title on the line against Ezekiel Jackson. Before Wrestlemania, however, the Undertaker will team with Jack Swagger tonight on Friday Night SmackDown! to take on the team of Jackson and his partner, Kane. Tonight will be the first time that this particular tag team match has ever taken place.

WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston versus Joey Mercury
Kofi Kingston and his tag team partner from Monday Night RAW Evan Bourne will put their WWE Tag Team Championships on the line at Wrestlemania against the team of Epico and Darren Young, but before that Kingston will take on Joey Mercury in singles action tonight on Friday Night SmackDown! Tonight will be the first ever time that Kingston and Mercury will have faced one another on SmackDown!, adding to the “First Time Ever” feel of tonight’s show. Kingston has been impressive in recent weeks, with a victory over Rob Conway two weeks ago on SmackDown! and a win against Cody Deaner last week.

God versus Curt Hawkins
Also tonight on Friday Night SmackDown! the mysterious God will take on Curt Hawkins in singles competition. Tonight will be the first ever singles meeting between God and Hawkins on SmackDown!, however both men were involved in the Royal Rumble match back in January, which was won by the “Celtic Warrior” Sheamus. Both men also competed in last year’s Royal Rumble match, which was won by the currently injured “Viper” Randy Orton. God and Hawkins also both took part in the Battle Royal prior to last year’s Wrestlemania, which God went on to win.

Slam Master J versus Cody Deaner
The charismatic and unpredictable Slam Master J will also be in action tonight on Friday Night SmackDown! as he takes on the intriguing Cody Deaner. This match has taken place once before on SmackDown! with Slam Master J picking up the all-important victory over Deaner last month in February. Cody Deaner failed to defeat Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship in SmackDown!’s main event two weeks ago and also lost to one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Kofi Kingston, last week so will be looking to pick up a victory tonight.

WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, Kaitlyn & Rosa vs. Team Lay-Cool & Vickie
At Wrestlemania Beth Phoenix will put her WWE Divas Championship on the line in a Triple Threat match against Monday Night RAW’s Alicia Fox and Maryse. Before Wrestlemania, however, Beth will lead the team of Kaitlyn and Rosa Mendes in a Six-Diva tag team match tonight on Friday Night SmackDown! against the team of Layla, Michelle McCool and the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero. This match has taken place several times in recent months with Beth’s team picking up the all-important victory in all of their matches so far. Can Beth’s team get another win tonight or will Team Lay-Cool and Vickie get the win they’ve been searching for?

Finally, we will also hear from the both Champion and Challenger in tonight’s World Heavyweight Championship main event tonight on Friday Night SmackDown! as the reigning World Heavyweight Champion Big Show as well as tonight’s challenger, Ianshoku Dieno, will give their thoughts heading into tonight’s main event. We will also hear from the 2012 Royal Rumble match winner Sheamus tonight on SmackDown!, the man who will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Wrestlemania. What will Big Show have to say before he defends his title once again later tonight?

Quick Picks:
World Heavyweight Championship: Big Show © versus Ianshoku Dieno
Intercontinental Champion Jack Swagger & Undertaker vs. Ezekiel Jackson & Kane
WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston versus Joey Mercury
God versus Curt Hawkins
Slam Master J versus Cody Deaner
WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, Kaitlyn & Rosa vs. Team Lay-Cool & Vickie

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! (Live from the IO Young Arena, 2,743 in Attendance)

Pre-Show: Edge versus Drew McIntyre
In a bout that had great heat and great wrestling action, Edge defeated Drew McIntyre in 17:51 by pinfall with a Spear. This was an important victory for Edge heading into the Triple Threat match with Kane and the Undertaker at Wrestlemania.
Match Rating: B

Intercontinental Champion Jack Swagger & Undertaker vs. Ezekiel Jackson & Kane
In a match that had a fantastic crowd and great wrestling action, Jack Swagger and The Undertaker defeated Ezekiel Jackson and Kane in 8:27 when Jack Swagger defeated Ezekiel Jackson by submission with an Ankle Lock.
Match Rating: B-

The World Heavyweight Champion Big Show comes to the ring and says that he doesn’t mind that the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero is forcing him to defend his World title every week on SmackDown! leading up until Wrestlemania as so far he has defeated everyone put in front of him. Big Show claims that tonight will be no different and he will defeat Ianshoku Dieno in tonight’s main event to once again retain his World Heavyweight Championship. The 2012 Royal Rumble winner Sheamus then joins Big Show in the ring and reminds him that he will be challenging for the World title in the main event of Wrestlemania. Big Show says that he has no problem with that and that he looks forward to facing him at Wrestlemania, before Ianshoku Dieno comes to the entrance-way. Dieno has a microphone in hand and says simply that he will win the World title tonight and he will be the one defending the title against Sheamus in the main event of Wrestlemania.
Rating: D-

The Undertaker returns to the ring following his victory in tonight’s earlier tag team match which saw him team with the WWE Intercontinental Champion Jack Swagger to take on and defeat the team of Ezekiel Jackson and the Undertaker’s brother Kane. Undertaker says that even though Swagger was his partner earlier tonight he doesn’t care if Swagger is able to defeat Jackson to retain his Intercontinental Championship at Wrestlemania or not. Undertaker proclaims that the only thing that will matter at Wrestlemania is him defeating both Kane and Edge in their Triple Threat match to remain undefeated at Wrestlemania. Edge then joins Undertaker in the ring and promises that he will be the one to end the streak at Wrestlemania.
Rating: B+

WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston versus Joey Mercury
In an extremely short match, Kofi Kingston defeated Joey Mercury in 2:31 by pinfall with a Trouble In Paradise.
Match Rating: C-

The WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix comes to the ring and proclaims that at Wrestlemania she will defeat both Maryse as well as Alicia Fox, two of Monday Night RAW’s Divas, in their Triple Threat match to successfully retain her Divas title. Layla, Michelle McCool and the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero then rush to the ring and assault Beth. Both Layla and McCool stomp on the Divas Champion whilst Vickie picks up the microphone and claims that this is the sort of punishment her and Team Lay-Cool will give Beth, Kaitlyn and Rosa Mendes in their Six Diva tag team match later tonight.
Rating: D

God versus Curt Hawkins
In a match that had some good action and average heat, God defeated Curt Hawkins in 7:52 by pinfall with a God's Last Gift.
Match Rating: C+

WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, Kaitlyn & Rosa vs. Team Lay-Cool & Vickie
In a match that had some good action and average heat, Beth Phoenix, Kaitlyn and Rosa Mendes defeated Layla, Michelle McCool and Vickie Guerrero in 7:22 when Beth Phoenix defeated Layla by pinfall with a Glam Slam.
Match Rating: C-

(Tony Garea feels that Vickie Guerrero needs to be booked in shorter matches, as she was totally exposed by the length of this one.)

Finlay comes to the ring and says that he is a little fed up of not being given enough opportunities by the Friday Night SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero, and that as a veteran of the business he’s not sure why he has yet to challenge Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship whilst a rookie such as Ianshoku Dieno will be challenging for the World Championship in tonight’s main event. Drew McIntyre then joins Finlay in the ring and says that he’s not being given opportunities because he’s an old man. McIntyre then hits Finlay with a Futureshock DDT.
Rating: C-

Slam Master J versus Cody Deaner
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Slam Master J defeated Cody Deaner in 7:53 by pinfall with a German Suplex.
Match Rating: D+

Following the conclusion of Slam Master J’s victory over Cody Deaner, Deaner rolls onto the outside of the ring, clearly disappointed in himself after suffering his third loss on Friday Night SmackDown! in as many weeks. Trent Barreta then comes to the ring to celebrate with his good friend Slam Master J. Barreta takes a microphone and claims that the General Manager Vickie Guerrero should give him and Slam Master J a future shot at the WWE Tag Team Championships. Rob Conway then comes to the ringside area and helps Deaner to his feet outside of the ring. Conway takes a microphone from the ringside area and says that both Slam Master J and Trent Barreta are nothing but jokes, and deserve nothing.
Rating: E

World Heavyweight Championship: Big Show © versus Ianshoku Dieno

Before Wrestlemania this Sunday, however, Miz and Morrison will team up in tonight’s tag team main event to take on the team of New Nexus members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Slater and Gabriel will also be in tag team action this Sunday at Wrestlemania as they will take on the team of Triple H and David Hart Smith. Triple H and David Hart Smith will also in action tonight, competing in singles matches as Triple H will take on Epico whilst David Hart Smith will face Darren Young. At Wrestlemania this Sunday Epico and Young will challenge Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston for the WWE Tag Team Championships. One half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Evan Bourne, will also be in action tonight as he will take on Michael McGuillicutty. Tonight will be the first time that Miz and Morrison have ever faced the team of Slater and Gabriel in tag team competition.

WWE Tag Team Champion Evan Bourne versus Michael McGuillicutty
One half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, Evan Bourne, will also be in action tonight on Monday Night RAW as he will take on Michael McGuillicutty of the New Nexus in singles action. This Sunday at Wrestlemania Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston will put their WWE Tag Team Championships on the line against the team of Epico and Darren Young whilst McGuillicutty will challenge the Miz for the WWE Championship. McGuillicutty’s opponent at Wrestlemania, the WWE Champion the Miz, will also be in action tonight as he will team with the WWE United States Champion John Morrison in the evening’s tag team main event to take on McGuillicutty’s fellow New Nexus members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Morrison will put his US Championship on the line this Sunday at Wrestlemania against RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Daniel Bryan. McGuillicutty and Bourne have faced one another in singles action twice before, both on episodes of the now defunct WWE Superstars last year, as McGuillicutty defeated Bourne in March, whilst Bourne picked up a victory over McGuillicutty back in April of last year. Both Bourne and McGuillicutty also competed in RAW’s Money in the Bank ladder match last year, which was ultimately won by Daniel Bryan.

Triple H versus Epico
This Sunday at Wrestlemania Epico will team with Darren Young to challenge Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston for the WWE Tag Team Championships but before that he will first take on Triple H in singles action tonight on Monday Night RAW. Triple H will also be in tag team action this Sunday at Wrestlemania as he will team with David Hart Smith to take on the New Nexus pairing of Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Triple H’s tag team partner this Sunday, David Hart Smith, will also be in action tonight on RAW as he will take on Epico’s partner this Sunday, Darren Young. Triple H and David Hart Smith’s opponents at Wrestlemania, Slater and Gabriel will also be in action tonight as they will team up in the evening’s tag team main event to take on the team of the WWE Champion the Miz and his partner, the WWE United States Champion John Morrison. Tonight will be Triple H’s second singles match against Epico after he defeated him at the TLC Pay-Per-View at the end of last year. However, Epico has a tag team victory over Triple H from last week on RAW when he and Darren Young defeated Triple H and David Hart Smith.

David Hart Smith versus Darren Young

WWE Monday Night RAW (Live from the MA Volpe Complex, 2,975 in Attendance)

Pre-Show: Vladimir Kozlov versus Mark Henry
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Mark Henry defeated Vladimir Kozlov in 18:07 by pinfall with a Big Splash.
Match Rating: B-

Monday Night RAW begins with RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Daniel Bryan making his way to the ring. Bryan says that this Sunday at Wrestlemania he will defeat the WWE United States Champion John Morrison to become the new US Champion once again. Bryan says that he also may cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase this Sunday at Wrestlemania after the WWE Championship match when Miz puts his title on the line against New Nexus member Michael McGuillicitty. Bryan says that he will be watching tonight’s tag team main event very closely as Miz teams with Morrison to take on the New Nexus pairing of Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Bryan says that he doesn’t mind the New Nexus anymore and hopes that Slater and Gabriel will defeat the team of Triple H and David Hart Smith in their match this Sunday at Wrestlemania. Bryan also announces that both Triple H and David Hart Smith will be in singles action tonight on RAW as Triple H will face Epico whilst David Hart Smith will take on Darren Young. Bryan says that he doesn’t care who wins the WWE Tag Team Championship match at Wrestlemania when Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston put their titles on the line against Epico and Young and that he also doesn’t care who wins tonight’s match between Evan Bourne and Michael McGuillicutty.
Rating: C+

Triple H versus Epico
In a match that had some good action and average heat, Triple H defeated Epico in 12:52 by pinfall with a Pedigree.
Match Rating: C-

(Billy Kidman would seriously consider either turning Triple H or trying a new gimmick, as he has become a stale character and needs a shake-up.)

WWE Tag Team Champion Evan Bourne versus Michael McGuillicutty
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Evan Bourne defeated Michael McGuillicutty in 7:44 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press.
Match Rating: B-

Following New Nexus member Michael McGuillicutty’s loss to one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Evan Bourne, Bourne celebrates in the ring before heading to the back. Michael McGuillicutty slowly gets to his feet only to be joined in the ring by the WWE Champion the Miz. Miz tells McGuillicutty that he will defeat him this Sunday at Wrestlemania to retain his WWE Championship just like Bourne defeated him tonight. Miz also claims that he and the WWE United States Champion John Morrison will win tonight’s Monday Night RAW tag team main event against McGuillicutty’s fellow New Nexus stable-mates Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Miz finally says that he believes Morrison will defeat RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Daniel Bryan this Sunday at Wrestlemania to retain his US Championship.
Rating: C+

New Nexus member Michael McGuillicutty has clearly heard enough of the WWE Champion the Miz, and McGuillicutty is also still angry following his loss to one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Evan Bourne. McGuillicutty chooses to ignore Miz and heads to the back. The WWE United States Champion John Morrison then joins the Miz in the ring. Miz hands Morrison the microphone and Morrison says that he believes that this Sunday at Wrestlemania, just as Miz will defeat McGuillicutty to retain his WWE Championship; John Morrison will defeat Monday Night RAW’s Money in the Bank winner Daniel Bryan to retain his United States Championship. Morrison also claims that he and Miz will be victorious in tonight’s tag team main event against the team of New Nexus members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Morrison says that he can’t stand the New Nexus and that he hopes Triple H and David Hart Smith are able to defeat Slater and Gabriel at Wrestlemania. Morrison says that he thinks David Hart Smith will defeat Darren Young later tonight just as Triple H defeated Young’s partner Epico earlier. Morrison also says that he believes Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston will retain their WWE Tag Team Championships against Epico and Young this Sunday at Wrestlemania.
Rating: B-

David Hart Smith comes to the ring for his scheduled match against Darren Young but firstly takes a microphone and says that he is looking forward to teaming with Triple H this Sunday at Wrestlemania to take on the team of New Nexus members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. Before Smith can say anything else, however, New Nexus members Michael McGuillicutty, Slater, Gabriel and Husky Harris rush to the ring and attack him. Michael McGuillicutty, who will challenge the Miz for the WWE Championship this Sunday at Wrestlemania, hits Smith over the skull repeatedly with right hands whilst Slater, Gabriel and Harris hold him down. Triple H and the Miz then rush to the ring in aid of David Hart Smith but the New Nexus still have the numerical advantage over Smith, Miz and Triple H. Ted DiBiase then shockingly rushes to the ring and clotheslines Husky Harris out of the ring. Triple H then throws both Slater and Gabriel out of the ring whilst McGuillicutty leaves the ring of his own accord after a stare-down with the Miz. The New Nexus head to the back whilst Triple H, Miz and DiBiase help David Hart Smith to his feet.
Rating: C

Alicia Fox comes to the ring and proclaims that this Sunday at Wrestlemania she will defeat the WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix as well as Maryse in their Triple Threat match to become the new Divas Champion. Maryse then joins Alicia in the ring and says that she will be the one leaving Wrestlemania as the new Divas Champion.
Rating: C-

David Hart Smith versus Darren Young
In a match that had some good action and average heat, Darren Young defeated David Hart Smith in 12:49 by pinfall with a Full Nelson Twisting Facebuster.
Match Rating: C

Alicia Fox returns to the ring and reiterates that at Wrestlemania this Sunday she will defeat the Divas Champion Beth Phoenix as well as Maryse in their Triple Threat match to become the new Divas Champion. Natalya then comes to the ring and distracts Alicia for long enough that Maryse can slide into the ring and hit Alicia with a vicious DDT.
Rating: C-

Alex Riley versus Zack Ryder
In an extremely short match, Zack Ryder defeated Alex Riley in 3:03 by pinfall with a Zack Attack.
Match Rating: C

WWE Champion The Miz & US Champion John Morrison vs. Slater & Gabriel
In a bout that had great heat and great wrestling action, The Miz and John Morrison defeated The Nexus in 17:38 when The Miz defeated Heath Slater by pinfall with a Skull Crushing Finale.

Rating: C+

Post-Show: William Regal versus Jimmy Uso
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Jimmy Uso defeated William Regal in 7:46 by pinfall with a Samoan Wrecking Ball.

Final Show Rating: C-
