Anyone from Philly maybe could answer this.
Is it true that Philly use day old bread for a philly cheese steak, if so why? I heard when I was a kid Philly uses day old bread, I had one a week ago at a fair and the guy said thats not true. Maybe someone from Philly can answer thanks. Thanks. |

While it's not true, there actually is one little diner that did make them with day old bread I've been told. Apparently it toasted better. |

Old bread does toast better. Fact.
I've got no idea what a Philly Cheese Steak is, but as a pastry chef, I can confirm the above. |

I really can't believe it, I've gone to Philly almost every year during the summer and until last May I've never gotten my hands on a Philly cheesesteak. If there's a reference in the dictionary for living under a rock, look right here
