![]() ZEN: ART OF WRESTLING Founded in October 2007 by Frank Bendis, New Zealand’s first and only wrestling promotion is on the verge of generating a cult following around the globe. Mixing cutting edge athleticism, technical proficiency and lucha libre while allowing for a huge dollop of off-the-wall humour and zany characters, ZEN has etched its own perfect niche for itself in the wrestling world, even if the live attendances aren’t what they could be. With interest in it rising greatly over recent months thanks to intelligent use of the internet, namely YouTube and Facebook, ZEN’s stock is rising and at the top of the federation rests the current ZEN Master... ![]() HALLOWEEN KNIGHT As well as being the owner and creator of ZEN: Art of Wrestling, “The Godfather of Ghouls” also has the distinction of being its biggest star. Known for his memorable skeleton-themed costume, Halloween Knight was the first ZEN Master and after losing the title in March 2008, he regained it little over a year later from Devilfish to become the only two-time ZEN Master in the company’s history; a history which he has played a big part in. But Halloween hasn’t done it all himself. Quite a few of Halloween Knight’s victories can be attributed to the work of the man himself as much as the work of... ![]() ![]() ![]() F.E.A.R. The Four Extreme Agents of the Revolution originally started as a three. But Halloween Knight, his long-time tag team partner Necromancer and Cyanide quickly recruited Massacre to change T.E.A.R into F.E.A.R. and from there, they haven’t looked back. The four evil-doers are rarely without support in their matches so it is no surprise that Halloween, Necromancer and Cyanide have all held singles titles in ZEN. The fact that no-one within F.E.A.R. have held the ZEN Harmony titles is something the group are focused towards in 2010. But before they can give the titles their full attention, they will have to settle a war that has been waging since the very first ZEN show between them and... ![]() ![]() ![]() THE SOLDIERS OF ATLANTIS Ever since Necromancer helped Halloween Knight to defeat “The Daredevil from the Deep” on the first ZEN show and become the first ZEN Master, Lone Shark, “The Multi-Coloured Master of Mischief” Devilfish and “The Avenger from the Ocean” Man O’ War has been locked in a war with F.E.A.R. over practically everything in ZEN. Lone Shark and Devilfish have traded the ZEN Master crown with Halloween Knight and Necromancer while a year ago, the two sides conspired to eliminate each other from the tournament that crowned the first ZEN Harmony Champions that was eventually won by... ![]() ![]() THE HORROR SHOW The two young face-painted brawlers took advantage where the war between F.E.A.R. and the Solders of Atlantis overflowed to grab hold of the ZEN Harmony Championships. Though since losing the belts, Nightmare Stalker and Nightmare Slasher have slipped down the Harmony ranks and that can probably due to the breakdown of their relationship with... ![]() GURU VISHNI “The High Priest of Enlightenment, Tranquillity and Low Blows” has been kicking around ZEN since the beginning and is responsible for introducing The Horror Show, The Anarchist and Bile to the promotion before he ultimately cast them aside when they had achieved all he thought they could. In their place, he now mentors the career of... ![]() MIRROR UNIVERSE JOHN GORDON As a young New Zealand wrestler, John Gordon first came to people’s attention in ZEN thanks to his natural athletic ability, clean-shaven look and impeccable manners. But following an unfortunate accident that saw him fall through a transcendental portal caused by Guru Vishni’s rogue meditation sessions, Gordon seemed lost from this world. However, mere weeks later, Gordon re-appeared in ZEN with a nasty attitude and black goatee; a sure sign that he was no longer the fan favourite that had been swallowed up but his evil self from a mirror universe. And backed by the new attitude and the wily Guru, MUJG has spent the time since focused on the ZEN Conceptual title and the current reigning Champion... ![]() SHAOLIN “The Funky Warrior Monk” who quickly became a favourite in ZEN for his ninja antics, often appearing out of nowhere in the background of other worker’s promos to surprise them, has used his Japanese taught style to great effect so far in the New Zealand promotion. As well as teaming with Quick Silver in the Harmony division, Shaolin has been a fighting Champion since claiming the ZEN Conceptual in September though he has made no bones bout the fact, he’d prefer to be defending actual hardware rather than the “idea of a title.” No man that didn’t have that kind of issue was... ![]() X-CALIBRE “The Mean Green Springboard Machine” was the first ever ZEN Conceptual champion, and was thrilled at having “all the glory of a championship, without the annoying aspect of having to carry it around everywhere.” And it is that laid back attitude that the fans of ZEN quickly took to. X-Calibre, the former co-holder of the ZEN Harmony titles with Man O’ War, tries not to let defeats get him down too much. Though his attitude has turned rather steely recently since he tasked himself with becoming the first person to hold all three ZEN Championships and also the first person not aligned with F.E.A.R. or the Solders of Atlantis to become the ZEN Master. Two men hoping he doesn’t achieve that feat in February are... ![]() ![]() DEBONAIR DAVID PETERSON and SEAN QUARTERMAINNE New arrivals to ZEN, DDP and SQ are just the latest of unmasked, unpainted stars to step foot into the Kiwi promotion. Well known for their work together in APW and before that, Aussie Rules Wrestling the two veterans made it very clear by way of a YouTube Special Update, they are arriving in ZEN with the ambition of putting the ZEN Master strap around the waist of David Peterson. Naturally, they aren’t the only men in ZEN starting 2010 obsessed with Gold; take for example... ![]() ![]() THE SKY KINGS Super Zero and Vertigo are the reigning ZEN Harmony Champions; but ever since the fearless pair claimed the belts from X-Calibre and Man O’ War, Vertigo has become fanatical about making sure they keep. We say only Vertigo because it’s hard to get a fix on anything that “The Expressionless Wonder” does or feels; given his complete head mask and stern posture. Of course, “The Artist of the Airways” isn’t helped by the fact that he still hasn’t been forgiven by... ![]() CRINKLES Hailing from Perth, Crinkles the “Clown with Attitude” was originally the pre-show act employed to keep the kids entertained by making balloon animals until Vertigo made the mistake of bursting a mammoth balloon elephant as he headed to the ring for a show opening match. Since then, the ZEN Harmony Champion has been plagued by Crinkles’ own unique brand of retribution that mixes brutal beat-downs with random custard pie attacks. A man that knows all about getting on the wrong side of Crinkles is... ![]() QUICK SILVER “The Human Rubber Ball” make an unwanted debut in mid-2008 when he was pulled from the ring by Crinkles. The youngster had been sitting in the audience, ready to check out a promotion that had made him an offer for his signature but after shoving one of Crinkles’ creations out of his face, “The Fleet-Footed Phenom” was soon forced into action. The entertainer took real exception to Quick Silver’s disrespect and while it took the masked star a few months to settle into ZEN, he has become a popular midcard attraction. This is in complete contrast to the majority of his ZEN Temple Dojo graduating class, who have managed to alienate the ZEN crowd by insisting they are... ![]() ![]() ![]() THE NEW BREED “New Era” Maurice Jackson, “Five Finger Discount” Nicky Gilbert and “The Prospect” Rod Sullivan are ****y, arrogant and brash. They have just stepped foot in the New Zealand promotion but are already completely sure that 2010 will be their year in ZEN: Art of Wrestling. But whose year will it be? Nothing can be predicted in ZEN. ![]() Main Event Debonair David Petersen [w/Sean Quartermainne] Devilfish [of The Soldiers of Atlantis] [ZEN Master] Halloween Knight [of F.E.A.R.] Lone Shark [of The Soldiers of Atlantis] Necromancer [of F.E.A.R.] Upper Midcard Cyanide [of F.E.A.R.] Jester [of Guns For Hire] Massacre [of F.E.A.R.] [ZEN Harmony Champion] Super Zero [of The Sky Kings] X-Calibre Midcard Crinkles Eraser [of Guns For Hire] Man O' War [of The Soldiers of Atlantis] Maurice Jackson [of The New Breed] Mirror Universe John Gordon [w/Guru Vishni] [ZEN Conceptual Champion] Shaolin The Anarchist [ZEN Harmony Champion] Vertigo [of The Sky Kings] Lower Midcard Bile Charlie Chambers Nightmare Slasher [of The Horror Show] Nightmare Stalker [of The Horror Show] Quick Silver Openers Lance Lott Nicky Gilbert [of The New Breed] Rod Sullivan [of The New Breed] Managers Guru Vishni [w/Mirror Universe John Gordon] Molly Cuddle [of The New Breed] Sean Quartermainne [w/Debonair David Petersen] |

![]() ZEN: ART OF WRESTLING presents... "ONE SHOW WITH EVERYTHING" Saturday January 23rd 2010 ZEN tumbles into 2010 with an exciting opening card. We’ve got six matches confirmed that could have implications on ZEN: Art of Wrestling throughout the first quarter of the year and beyond. The war between F.E.A.R. and The Soldiers of Atlantis will rage on in the main event, while Halloween Knight is given a chance to see his February challenger up close in a tricky trios match for The Enemy and the ZEN Master. Elsewhere, Vertigo and Crinkles clash in a match designed to put an end to their recent difference while Super Zero goes to toe-to-toe with Mirror Universe John Gordon. Main Event: The War Rages On! ![]() It’s a battle that has been raging since the very day of ZEN. When Necromancer arrived at ringside during the first ever ZEN Master contest, Lone Shark was thrown off and that allowed Halloween Knight to scoop up victory. Since then F.E.A.R. and The Soldiers of Atlantis have been at each other’s throats and come “A Show with Everything,” they’ll do it again. Of course, a clash between Lone Shark and Necromancer really doesn’t need any build. But let me just remind you that Necromancer is standing between Lone Shark and the ZEN Master number one contender ranking. Sold? I thought so. A Trios Battle! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() X-Calibre is the current number one contender to the ZEN Master crown and “The Mean Green Springboard Machine” has already booked in his title shot at February’s “Testing the Water Depth with Both Feet.” So it makes perfect sense for the Champion and the challenger to get a look at each other before they fight for the Gold. As such, Halloween Knight will be partnered by the other parts of F.E.A.R. as they take on X-Calibre and his loose acquaintances Quick Silver and Shaolin. This match will have a massive bearing on who ends February as the top dog in ZEN. A Battle With Agenda! ![]() ![]() ![]() As soon as the curtain fell on 2009, the Guns for Hire petitioned the ZEN Board for a showdown with Man O’ War and they were quickly rewarded with a tag team clash. Quite why Eraser and Jester want a piece of “The Avenger from the Ocean” remains unclear but if he is drawing attention from GFH then there must be a financial backer behind it somewhere. Also Confirmed For “One Show with Everything” Settling Their Differences! ![]() Tag Team Contention At Stake! ![]() ![]() ![]() First Time Ever! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Plus The New Breed of Maurice Jackson, Nicky Gilbert and Rod Sullivan will be in action! "One Show With Everything" Lone Shark versus Necromancer F.E.A.R. [Halloween Knight, Cyanide and Massacre] versus Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre The Soldiers of Atlantis [Devilfish and Man O' War] versus Guns for Hire [Eraser and Jester] Vertigo versus Crinkles The Horror Show [Nightmare Slasher and Nightmare Stalker] versus The Anarchist and Bile Super Zero versus Mirror Universe John Gordon Last edited by flat_doughnut : 01-31-2010 at 05:16 PM. |

Lone Shark versus Necromancer
Shenanigans, or Shark by DQ. F.E.A.R. [Halloween Knight, Cyanide and Massacre] versus Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre Keep the #1 contender strong. The Soldiers of Atlantis [Devilfish and Man O' War] versus Guns for Hire [Eraser and Jester] Guns for Hire = jobbers. Vertigo versus Crinkles Mark. Out. He probably won't win, but I can dream. The Horror Show [Nightmare Slasher and Nightmare Stalker] versus The Anarchist and Bile Anarchist and Bile are utter crap. No offense to them, they just suck. Give it to the horror show. Super Zero versus Mirror Universe John Gordon [i]Gordon's fun, but Zero is a tag champ. No point in killing his momentum. |

From the match logos to the writing style, this smells like Chikara, but thats a good thing :P
Lone Shark versus Necromancer Give him momentum for a match with Halloween F.E.A.R. [Halloween Knight, Cyanide and Massacre] versus Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre Give the number one contender momentum The Soldiers of Atlantis [Devilfish and Man O' War] versus Guns for Hire [Eraser and Jester] They are a far better team. Vertigo versus Crinkles Vertigo will go farther, but CWA picks up a win here, maybe using a foreign clown object. The Horror Show [Nightmare Slasher and Nightmare Stalker] versus The Anarchist and Bile Word is they are a better team. Super Zero versus Mirror Universe John Gordon Super Zero is my favorite guy in ZEN, even over MUJG, but a win here is a must for the degenerate heel. |

Lone Shark versus Necromancer
Heels win the little battles, faces win the wars. F.E.A.R. [Halloween Knight, Cyanide and Massacre] versus Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre Unless those wars are for the main title for the second show, at which point the champ usually retains. The Soldiers of Atlantis [Devilfish and Man O' War] versus Guns for Hire [Eraser and Jester] Fishfolk will probably take this one, with some sort of fall out or interference after the match. Vertigo versus Crinkles No one's giving the tag champion any love? The Horror Show [Nightmare Slasher and Nightmare Stalker] versus The Anarchist and Bile Shot in the dark here Super Zero versus Mirror Universe John Gordon It's all in the goatee really. BTW, love the CHIKARA graphics for the show previews! |

Lone Shark versus Necromancer
This is the Main Event, and since I think F.E.A.R will take the semi I say Lone Shark will send the fans home happy F.E.A.R. [Halloween Knight, Cyanide and Massacre] versus Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre 1: F.E.A.R. are the Lords, Masters and Gods of Zen and all shall bow before their might 2: Units must always go over random pairings The Soldiers of Atlantis [Devilfish and Man O' War] versus Guns for Hire [Eraser and Jester] Man O' War to blast those scurvy dawgs outta da water like a cannonball possessed by the ghost of blackbeard himself, or a trust from the trident of Neptune himself aaaarrrr. And remember, hell has no greater demon than the Devilfish himself. Vertigo versus Crinkles I suspect that Crinkles will use his creepy clown charisma to cripple Vertigo and capture the win The Horror Show [Nightmare Slasher and Nightmare Stalker] versus The Anarchist and Bile Units over random pairings, especially since The Horrors are former Campéon de Parajases Super Zero versus Mirror Universe John Gordon MU John Gordon to win when Guru Vishni creates an interdimentional vortex that puts both Super Zero, the referee and MU JB in slow motion, allowing Vishni to Low blow Super Zero to death before restoring the riff in the space time continuum. |

“One Show with Everything” The show opens with something of a re-match from December as Nicky Gilbert gets a chance to avenge his debut defeat Charlie Chambers, alongside the rest of The New Breed. Chambers, without an immediate support network in ZEN has done what he can to recruit partners, though the tecnico trio do not look completely on the same page as they stand in their corner. The New Breed, on the other hand, looks like completely focused and together as they head for the ring. All three ooze confidence and that confidence is only caused to grow as they send “The Big Rig” Maurice Jackson in to start the match and he quickly sets about dominating the three smaller opponents.Saturday January 23rd 2010 ZEN Temple Dojo, Whangarei, Northland ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Charlie Chambers, Lance Lott and Misery versus The New Breed [Maurice Jackson, Nicky Gilbert and Rod Sullivan] w/Molly Cuddles And things don’t get much better for Chamber, Lott or Misery as the match progresses. The rudo trio, under the watchful eye of Molly Cuddles, don’t allow their opponents too many chances and while Chambers threatens to upset Gilbert once again with some neat mat work, the team work of The New Breed shines through and Lott is soon laid out by Jackson’s Big Rig Boot for the pin. The New Breed; Jackson [W], Gilbert and Sullivan (Big Rig Boot > pin) Chambers, Lott [L] and Misery The second match of the night features two teams desperate to getting back to winning ways after both suffered convincing defeats on the final show of 2009. It also has the added spice of being the first time The Anarchist has faced his former partners, The Horror Show while partnering Bile. And it’s Bile that makes the best start of the four. Once released from his straightjacket that he is constrained in on his way to the ring, “The Criminally Insane Kingpin” goes straight for The Horror Show and makes mincemeat of the two brothers.![]() ![]() ![]() The Horror Show [Nightmare Slasher and Nightmare Stalker] versus The Anarchist and Bile It is pretty easy to see The Anarchist smiling through his mask as he enjoys The Horror Show being manhandled by his partner. Stalker and Slasher threaten comebacks on more than a couple of occasions but The Anarchist takes hold of the situation and shoves Stalker into referee Herbie Reedman which causes all hell to break loose. The Anarchist hoists Stalker over the top rope and then blasts Nightmare Slasher with the A-Bomb! Reedman is quickly revived and Bile slaps on the Head Vice for the submission. The Anarchist and Bile [W] (Head Vice > submission) The Horror Show; Nightmare Slasher [L] and Nightmare Stalker Finally ready to put his feud with Crinkles to rest, Vertigo is really pumped up as he bursts through the curtain but as soon as one half of the ZEN Harmony Champions has been greeted by the crowd, he is set upon by “The Clown with Attitude.” Catching him with a double axe handle, Vertigo’s face bounces off the canvas and allows Crinkles to manhandle his opponent before the match has officially begun. Given the fact that the blind head referee of ZEN, Steven Yale is in charge of the match doesn’t benefit Vertigo at all and Crinkles is free to continue the attack before Super Zero arrives to save his partner. Dropkicking Crinkles into the guardrail, Super Zero helps his partner into the ring where Yale gets the match underway properly. ![]() Vertigo versus Crinkles Unfortunately for Vertigo, the fact that Yale is pretty much blind and Super Zero is an emotionless mute means Crinkles continues to fight in a similar fashion to the pre-match attack though he focus switches from the face of Vertigo to his left leg. “The Artist of the Airways” is of course made of tougher stuff than that and preservers through the rough and tumble of Crinkles before starting into a comeback backed by the Northland crowd. Though his left leg gives way at a few choice moments, he does enough to keep CWA off-balance before Super Zero grabs Crinkles’ ankle to distract him. The clown immediately turns to face Zero and allows Vertigo to hit the Sheer Drop for the pinfall that should settle the differences between the two men. Vertigo (Sheer Drop > pin) Crinkles Rather than keeping his battered and bruised partner around the ring for this singles clash, Super Zero sends Vertigo to get checked over while waiting on Guru Vishni and John Gordon. Once the pair arrived, the Guru explains the reasons why he petitioned the ZEN Officials to give his charge at a match with one of the ZEN Harmony Champions. Apparently Guru Vishni spent most of 2009 looking across Australia for the perfect partner for Mirror Universe John Gordon and once he arrives in March, they will be gunning for the ZEN Harmony titles, and whatever team hold them. This confuses the ZEN audience who haven’t forgotten Guru Vishni ended 2009 by putting a target on the back of the ZEN Conceptual Champion Shaolin... but whatever, we’ve got a debut to look forward. ![]() Super Zero versus Mirror Universe John Gordon w/Guru Vishni Of course, Vishni’s words get Super Zero’s back up. The Champion is fighting mood and appears desperate to dispatch MUJG. We can only assume that is what he is feeling. “The Expressionless Wonder” starts much quicker than John Gordon but with Guru Vishni doing an excellent job of constantly distracting old man referee Jackson Jackson, the man with the bad attitude and the badass goatee is never out of the contest. Eventually Super Zero finds himself getting distracted by Vishni as well and at one crucial point, Mirror Universe John Gordon swoops in with a roll-up and thanks to a handful of Zero’s tights, he gets the three! Mirror Universe John Gordon (Roll-up > pin) Super Zero Before their showdown with the Guns for Hire, Man O’ War questioned why Eraser and Jester had singled him out at the start of the year. He obviously heard that they had lobbied the ZEN Board for the match with him; but he couldn’t fathom why they were after him or who had paid them. As is the way with the GFH, they didn’t reveal the identity of their employer and instead rushed immediately into battle.![]() ![]() ![]() The Soldiers of Atlantis [Devilfish and Man O’ War] versus Guns for Hire [Eraser and Jester] What followed was the most even match of the night as neither team was able to completely dominate in any way. A lot of quick tags, slick double team moves and strong understanding on the part of the team members meant the match drew the crowd in before a hot tag from Man O’ War to Devilfish looked like it had sealed matters for the Solders of Atlantis with the Fish Finger Shuffle on Jester. Unfortunately, Steven Yale was facing in the completely wrong direction to see the cover. Devilfish turned him round but in that time, Jester had rolled out of the ring and Eraser had slipped in behind Devilfish. “The Extreme Mercenary” blasted the former ZEN Master with The Hit for the victory; though Lone Shark arrived before the Guns for Hire could start a post match beatdown on Man O’ War. Guns for Hire; Eraser [W] and Jester (The Hit > pin) The Soldiers of Atlantis; Devilfish [L] and Man O’ War In a precursor to next month’s ZEN Master showdown between X-Calibre and the reigning Champion Halloween Knight, the two men recruited two partners for a trios match that would ideally tell them everything that they needed to know about the other before the title match. X-Calibre, backed by his many time partners in Quick Silver and the Conceptual Champion Shaolin, still had time for a few fans as he pushed through the curtain while Halloween Knight was much more direct. He didn’t acknowledge any aspect of the crowd’s existence and instead chose to focus on the three men waiting on him and his F.E.A.R. brethren.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre versus F.E.A.R. [Cyanide, Halloween Knight and Massacre] Given the six men involved and the interest Cyanide and Massacre have recently had on the Conceptual title; it didn’t take long for the action to reach boiling point. On more than one occasion, rookie referee Herbie Reedman was faced with trying to break the two battling squads and just as he was getting the hang of it, he ate a wayward hand and hit the deck. Chaos ensued with bodies unwillingly flying through the air every which way; before X-Calibre was left in the ring with Cyanide. Taking Cyanide down with a Shining Wizard, “The Mean Green Springboard Machine” quickly hit his trademark Springboard 460 for the win to the disgust of Halloween Knight and Massacre who seemed to be winning their respective brawls with Shaolin and Quick Silver outside the ring. Shaolin, Quick Silver and X-Calibre [W] (Springboard 460 > pin) F.E.A.R; Cyanide [L], Halloween Knight and Massacre Despite the match being for the eventual number one contender’s spot for the ZEN Master title, the match between Lone Shark and Necromancer doesn’t need any build for the fans of ZEN: Art of Wrestling. It was Necromancer of course that cost Lone Shark the ZEN Master Championship on the very first ZEN show and since then, the two have stood on opposing sides of the ring no less than twelve times but only once before in singles action; which saw Necromancer claiming the ZEN Master title from Lone Shark. So it was only natural for many of the ZENophobes (not sure if it works) to be salivating as the two made their respective entrances. ![]() Lone Shark versus Necromancer Once they were completed, they went hell to leather at each other. Lone Shark took to the air almost immediately; using his superior speed and balance to get at Necromancer early on before “The Menace” took a chance as “The Daredevil from the Deep” came off the top rope and caught him with a Spear that nearly chopped the fan favourite in half. From there it was a little more even before Halloween Knight appeared from behind the ZEN curtain. The ZEN Master did everything he could to distract Lone Shark but just as the contender was rising to Knight’s goading Devilfish and Man O’ War dashed from the back. Cyanide was noticeably missing from the brawl that ensued between the two sides before referee Jackson Jackson finally calmed things down by having Knight, Massacre, Devilfish and Man O’ War ejected from the arena. Both Lone Shark and Necromancer did not come out of the mass brawl well and after they both used the ropes to climb to their feet, Lone Shark ducked under a desperate Necromancer lariat and hit the Blood in the Water to send the ZEN fans home happy and even the singles scores between the two at one apiece.
