Default Poor Gimmick?

I run a Puro-style promotion, and as the analysis states, we attract fans who "won't be keen on gimmicks." Because of this, none of my wrestlers get gimmicks, but I just noticed a note in the dirt sheet:

(-) ...has a poor gimmick.

This appears for all of my wrestlers. What's the deal? What should I do? Hardly any Japanese-style wrestlers that I hire come with gimmicks, so I assume this is the way to go, but I don't know now.

First, list your promotion's product settings. Second, list all their gimmick ratings.

Optionally, you should list each wrestler's popularity and momentum.

Product:

Key
Traditional
Realism

Medium:
Modern
Pure

Very Low:
Daredevil
Hardcore

All of their Gimmick ratings are quite low, as they don't have gimmicks. It's not even displayed on the roster screen.

What are your match ratings? Who are your wrestlers? My own only advice is there is nothing you can do about it, and just let them keep wrestling.

I think I get decent match ratings. It's my first year with a created, regional (hard difficulty) promotion, and anything less than C is a pretty disappointing event for me. My top ten matches range from C to B-.

My Main Eventers at the moment:

Death Monkey
The Insane Heat
Jimmy Cox
The Mean Machine

Hmm don't want to speak for Mr. Ryland, but sounds like it could just be a bug..? If not in mechanics, perhaps in description of the penalty

I wonder if the combination of Realism and Traditional as key features has anything to do with it...

It's nearly the same combination as GCG and BHOTWG, so I figured it would work alright, but it may still have that negative to it.

Just keep playing and hope the gimmick ratings will rise. It doesn't seem to be affecting your match ratings much, anyway.

I'm inclined to say no but only as a kneejerk reaction to a 'I don't understand this so it must be a bug' situation.

My advice would be to a) Turn gimmick effects off. Your promotion doesn't use 'em so why would you need it to be on? or b) Ignore it. I'm pretty sure that this is a similar instance to the 'no managers or personalities are required' product note in that you don't HAVE to use them but if you do and get a high rating for someone, it's gravy (a free bonus). I could be mistaken but I believe Legitimate and Realistic gimmick types work regardless of product.

Thanks to all of you who have posted so far. If my match ratings sound like they are ok, then I guess I'm not too worried about it. After all, it doesn't say how negative of a negative it is. I just wondered if I'd missed something.

The problem comes with, I believe, the traditional and the modern setting. While neither one of them carry specific needs for gimmicks, as either one by themselves say "will mean the fans won't care one way or another about their gimmicks' it means they still have to have a gimmick. The realism says 'no gimmicks needed' when it's by itself. I'm inclined to believe that the way the individual product settings line up is that the traditional setting requires gimmicks, but the audience isn't going to particularly care about what the gimmicks are, but the Realism means you're going to attract fans who don't like gimmicks at all. It's kind of a counter-balance. You attract two separate groups of fans. The only things you can really do, I believe, are to either turn off gimmick effects, as Remianen wisely suggested, or just tolerate the fact you're going to suffer that penalty.

I guess I had some notion that I'd be cheating if I turned them off, but I suppose if I have no intention of playing the game with them, I might as well do it.

I'll offer a different take and may be wrong, but I always figured "wont be keen on gimmicks" meant gimmicky gimmicks, not all gimmicks. So wholesome, cool, ****y etc.. were all fine.

Actually that's exactly true. Any gimmicks that aren't Legitimate or Realistic tend to suffer in performance-based promotions.

Holy hell, that made a huge difference.
